My apple tv is not connecting to the internet via ethernet

Got home tonight, have not been having problems before this, turned on my tv and started the aptv the same as always
and got the regular splash screen with the usual icons, netflix, Hulu etc.
Went to Hulu and it went to the usual menu screen, but from there it would not connect.
Tried to restart, at the end of the restart cycle the screen said it was trying ot set time and date.
Seems like it can not do this and does not connect to the internet.
I have it on a ethernet cable to a modem that works fine for my iPhone and my laptop via wifi, and
have not had any other problems, so not being able to watch tv is pretty frustrating.
Has Apple done something in preping for next weeks iOS7 launch and suspected aptv upgrades????
What is going on????

I would test something else connected by ethernet like the laptop to make sure it was not a router thing
then I would connect the appletv by usb to the laptop and use itunes to restore the firmware if that was the issue
then I would try  bringing it to a friend or relatives place and test it there
if all else failed it would resturn it under warrenty

  • PowerMac G4 will not connect to the internet via ethernet

I am normally a very mac savy person, but I cannot get this to work...
I have an Airport Express connected to speakers, a USB printer and an ethernet hub, which is connected to a cable modem and also a PowerMac G4 via ethernet. There is also a wireless iMac thrown into the mix. All hardware has up-to-date software.
The wireless iMac gets online, prints and plays music wirelessly.
The wired PowerMac G4 will not connect to the internet via ethernet, it is killing me.
I have gone through all the settings and cannot figure this one out. I really appreciate all advice.
    Thanks,

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Leaving the other peripherals out, tell us the connection sequence from the G4 outbound.

  • Macbook Pro suddenly will not connect to the internet via ethernet cable.

I know this is a long shot... but I figured I would give it a try.
My macbook pro suddenly does not connect to the internet via ethernet cable. Please bear with me, as I am not very tech-savvy - I will try my best to describe the symptoms!
I connect to the internet via ethernet (we don't have wifi). It was working before I went to work, and when I came home I suddenly couldn't get anything to work (I know everyone says this, but I truly didn't mess with anything). Internet browsers just think for awhile and then turn up the 'You are not connected to the internet' error.
I went into my network preferences and curiously, the 'Ethernet' shows a green dot and says 'connected'. However it says 'Authentication server is not responding' underneath the last part that says '802.1X: WPA: eduroam' (I think that is my user profile).
When I go into my 'security' settings I can see that my firewall is off, so that shouldn't be causing any problems.
I've tried restarting the router and computer itself many times. Diagnostics just gets to a certain point and reports back 'Network Diagnostics cannot fix the current networking problems.' I've also tried switching to a different ethernet cable, and I tried both cables out on a PC laptop and it connected without issue.  Additionally, I brought my macbook along to a friend's house and it connected to his wifi just fine, so the problem appears to just be with ethernet connections.
I know it's hard to troubleshoot this kind of thing without being there and having a look at the computer yourself, but any tips wouild be greatly appreciated.

As I mentioned above, I am not very tech savvy so I have no idea why a wireless protocol would be showing up there, I'm just listing everything I see in hopes that someone might know something I can try. This is why I am asking for help here - I'm not sure what has happened that has made me unable to connect, especially since it seemingly occured while nobody was using the computer.
I guess I should clarify that I'm not a total hillbilly- normally my firewall is set to 'on', but I set it to 'off' to try and troubleshoot the issues here as I was told that sometimes it can interfere with the computer's ability to connect to the internet. If this is not the case and firewall does not affect anything, I will turn it back on while I try to fix this.
I have tried the method you mentioned above a few times - I actually contacted my ISP earlier this week and they recommended resetting the router like that. They didn't mention any known network issues.

  • MacBook will not connect to the internet via ethernet cable anymore.

My MacBook apparently decided the other day that it no longer desired to connect to the internet through an ethernet connection; it still works perfectly through a wireless network. I am a university student and so there is wireless almost everywhere so it's not so bad, but I cannot connect in my dorm and it's becoming a bit of a pain. I have tried to connect through several known working ethernet ports and no matter what my computer thinks it's not even plugged in. It's even more strange because I just woke up one morning and it was no longer working. Everything else it totally normal, save this one little inconvenience. Any ideas?

So I'm having the same problem. I woke up one morning and my macbook's ethernet connection suddenly stopped working. For some reason It wont recognize the cable.... I have tried 3 different cables and theses cables work with my sisters PC so I know the cable is not the issue. Im also living in college dorms which seems to be a commonality with this issue. I've searched for answers all over and I really don't have the time to make it to the mac store anytime soon. My wireless works but it's not allowed in my college dorms for security reasons(lame). Please help!...
Apple needs to formally address this issue.

  • Macbook Air will not connect to the internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet

Macbook Air will not connect to the internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet? Any ideas why not and how to fix this problem?

Power down the router. Unplug the cord from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug the cord back in. Restart the router.
Wait until all the lights are lit up properly.
    Restart the computer.
    Best.

  • Connected to the internet via ethernet, BUT...

I turned off my computer, modem, everything and uplugged it all because of a severe lightning storm Saturday. Since I turned it back on the next day I haven't been able to access the web or my mail. However, the problem must be with my G4, because I have an iBook on Airport and I'm able to connect to the web and email with it. So the cable modem and Airport are evidently working properly. My G4 network settings all appear normal. I've got a green light saying I am connected to the internet via ethernet, but I'm really not. My email won't go online and no browser works, although I don't get a "can't connect" message on the browser screen, it just stays white. I had this problem before but I can't remember what I did to correct it. I just remember unplugging the modem and Airport over and over, in different order, and resetting preferences. But I don't remember what I did, if anything, to actually make it work again. Does anyone have an idea on what I can try to REALLY connect?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Tough to troubleshoot lightning in person, moreso at a distance!
    Things to try...
Type 17.112.152.32 into your browser... thinking it may be off looking for a DNS server that doesn't exist.
Launch Network Utility and see if you can Ping like that addy, or your other computer.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Copy (command-C) the selected text to the Clipboard. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered. You can do that by copy-and-paste as well. Omit the final line ending in “$”. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. It won't be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Mac mini does not connect to the internet via wifi

I currently have a Mac mini that cannot connect to the internet. I also have an iPad that is connected to the same router/modem wirelessly. I have tried the network diagnostic in the network utility app. It is showing I'm connected with green dots.. But still no luck.
Yes I tried calling the ISP, there was some issues with the service but they fixed that and it was working just fine a few hours ago but then later in the evening it stopped connecting. I know my router modem is working because I'm typing this with my iPad ..
Im going to call apple tomorrow and try to get another modem router as we'll. Just thought I would try here also..
if i if I have to restore my Mac mini to factory, will there be a way to keep my iTunes music .. .?
    thanks

If yo go to Network Preferences>Wifi  what IP address is specified? It should be like 192.168.1.X.
Try creating a new location and jointing the wifi network again
Using network locations (Mac OS X v10.6 and later)

  • Airport Express not connecting to the internet via cable modem

Hi. I need help. I just bought an airport express to get wireless internet and airtunes. I connected everything and ran the airport utility. Everything is good, so it says. I can play music through my stereo using airtunes, but when I try to get on the internet I get nothing. My macbook recognizes the network, but I can't load any pages. I've tried unhooking the ethernet from the express and unplugging the power from my modem, then plugging my modem back after about 30 seconds, then reconnecting the ethernet to the airport after another 30 seconds but still, nothing.
Does anyone know what I'm doing incorrectly? When I connect my macbook directly to the modem via ethernet I'm on the internet just fine. Thanks!!!!

Do you have the Express setup to distribute IP addresses?
If you do, you might turn it off in the Airport Utility.
Also check you IP address on your MacBook.
Make sure it is not self-assigned or something different than what your provider (cable modem) usually assigns you...

  • Connecting to the Internet via Ethernet

    Hey,
I am trying to connect to the internet on my G4 Yikes for the first time using my apartment's ethernet connection.
How do I set this up? Does it do it automatically?
    Thanks for any help!

*Hi duckydps, Welcome* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
It's been so long that I am not sure of details. Go to your ISP site. You will need to input your receive and send locations.
I just checked and they are in Mail / Preferences / Accounts.
Then they may let you start up automatically. You may need to check their FAQs, do a chat, or telephone them.
    Good Luck, JP

  • Powerbook won't connect to the internet via Ethernet?

    Hi
Just recently, my 1.5 GHz powerbook won't connect to the internet with an ethernet cable. It connects fine at home when it's connecting through the airport, but then I try to use it with the ethernet cable it tells me that "Ehternet may not be able to connect because it has a self assigned IP address" But I didn't assign it an address, OS X configured it. Thanks in advance for any help.

    And your settings in:
    System Preferences/Network/Show: built-in Ethernet/
(Tab): TCP/IP; configure IPv4 is set to "DHCP"?

  • Mini can't connect to the internet via ethernet bridge

I installed a Netgear WGPS606 (It's a print server and wireless ethernet bridge) on my home wireless network. Here's the Configuration: DSL connected through a Linksys BEFSR41 DSL/Cable router with 4 port switch. My Graphite Airport base station connects to one of the ports on the switch, and it serves the wireless computers on the network. The WGPS606 is connected wirelessly to the Airport Base station. I have a MacMini connected to one of the ethernet ports on the WGPS606. The Mini successfully gets its IP address from the DHCP server on the Airport. (Interestingly, the Airport's DHCP server is configured to provide addresses for airport clients, not ethernet clients, but it does provide an IP address for the Mini -- I assume because the mini is connected through the wireless bridge.) I can see and connect to the Mini via the local network, but the Mac Mini cannot connect to the internet.
    Any clues?
    Mark

Never mind. I gave up on the Netgear print server and bought a second AirPort Express and set up a WDS network. Everything works like a charm. That's the last time I waste nearly a day of my time to save $30 bucks on a piece of hardware.

  • HT1600 my apple Tv is not connected to the internet. Apple airport is on, homesharing is on ????

How do I connect apple tv to the internet? It was connected.Apple airport is on, homesharing is on.

Home sharing has nothing to do with the network connection. What exactly is happening? Is there an error? Have you tried a reboot on router and ATV? Is the Airport up to date? Have you tried ethernet?

  • "You are not connected to the internet"....sometimes.

I've had to write this in IE on XP in Parallels as it is the only reliable way I can access the web. Since upgrading to 10.6, Safari (and Firefox to a lesser extent) has been giving me frequent (and instant) "You are not connected to the internet" errors. If I try another site I may get there straight away and then re-trying the original site may get me there. Or not. Very intermittent. Also, when finally accessed some sites aren't rendering properly. Right now in Safari I have Apple's site up with 18 errors, no graphics, default fonts, no layout. Activity shows the errors as "This computer's internet connection appears to be" - the rest of the message cannot be seen.
The other way I could have posted this is to use my wife's MacBook running 10.5 - no problems there. It's almost like it wants an instant DNS lookup and if that isn't forthcoming it spits. But then, why "not connected"? Wouldn't it be "Server cannot be contacted"? What is it that prompts Safari to believe the internet is not connected. This is a major pain!

This is interesting! Something is not correct here. Either the time I took to back-up on Time Machine prior to installing OS X 10.6 caused my MacBook Pro to overheat overnight or the OS X 10.6 has a problem with the ethernet card or internet. To clarify, I have yesterday and today upgraded a MacBook Pro, iMac and MiniMac with OS X 10.6. The only problem I have is the MacBook Pro will not connect to the internet via cable to the router. All the machines including the MacBook Pro connect via ethernet or WiFi to my network no problem. The MacBook Pro even connects to the internet via WiFi but not ethernet. So I suspect overheating!. See what transpires when I start it up again.
