My apple TV Suddenly Stopped Appearing on my network

iTunes no longer sees my ATV2, nor does my iPhone 4, and the ATV2 doesn't see my macbook either. I tried a restore of ATV, restart of mac and TV, checked internet settings, NOTHING has changed in the past two weeks. Now it doesn't work?

tried to verify that the atv2 is on the same IP subnet as the rest of the devices
and if it use wifi it haven't connected to your neighbors unlocked wifi setup?

Why would my Apple TV suddenly stop recognizing my library.  Nothing has changed.  How can I test the Apple TV.  I have the latest updates.

Could have to do with home sharing. Try turining off and then back on home sharing on your AppleTV.

  • My Apple TV suddenly can't find my network and tells me it is not connected..help?

My Apple TV suddenly can't find my network and tells me it is not connected..help?  I have reset my time capsule and have all the latest updates. My iPhone and ipad do not show airplay even though I have it turned on in Apple TV.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
    Restart your mobile device.

  • HT202157 my apple tv suddenly stops working, and can't seem to detect my itunes account from my pc

My first generation apple tv frequently stops detecting my itunes account on my pc.  I can't see my shared libraries on the apple tv, even after repeated attempts to reconnect.  Any suggestions?

Update software. If that doesn't work try resetting.  Mine started working after the update.

  • Iphone 4s wifi suddenly stopped connecting to home network

My iphone 4s suddenly stopped connecting to my home wifi 2 weeks ago, now it won't even bring it up on the list of available networks. I have tried resetting network settings, have tried manually connecting but it says "unable to locate network". Why would this all of a sudden start doing this when I have had this phone for over a year. My husbands iphone 4 has no problems whatsoever and connects to our home network just fine so I know it is not the router. This is so frustrating

I'm currently suffering from this problem as well. If you or your husband can get your iPhone open, there may be a screw in the upper antenna area of the iPhone that is loose (this screw grounds the antenna to the chip/mainboard).
    http://www.iphoneshopusa.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/top-shield-iphone4- wifi-problem1.png
It's pointed out in the image above. Many have tightened the screw and said their Wi-Fi optimally again. Having a phone for a year does mean a lot of wear-and-tear: dropping, vibration, heat, all accumulate so that the delicate components inside get knocked around and, in this case, loose. Try this method! (If you can, of course.)
    Good luck!

  • I bought an external hard drive in June (this yr) and it suddenly stopped appearing on the desktop. Disk Utility could see it. It wasn't the cord - now that I've tried that, the ext won't even turn on. I need that data off the drive BADLY! Help!!??

The drive stopped showing up consistently at first, then stopped all together. Disk Utilities could see it, verify it but not repair. I need it backed up. I took it to a local computer shop who tried a different cord. Nothing. When I got home, I read through several support forums dealing with this issue. One said I needed to zap my PRAM on my MacBook. I did so. Now the external won't even turn on! Any hope of getting the data off that drive? It is still under warranty but undoubtedly the firm will NOT attempt to back up the drive before issuing a new one. I downloaded something called TestDisk 6 that another forum suggested but no one offered any clue how to use it. I cannot figure the first thing to do with it! It appears to may be a Windows formatted program, anyway as most of the instructions end in the suffix .exe. I'm at a total loss...both personally as well as having already lost a complete week of business. Any suggestions would be appreciated but please note - I am NOT that computer literate. Just telling me to download something won't help me if I can't figure out what to do once it is downloaded. Also, taking this hard drive apart will void my warranty. Not that that is the biggest of my worries at this point but I wouldn't have the first clue anyway! I live in an area where we have something called Mac Authority in the mall and a Best Buy. Those are the only 2 connections to Mac-related stuff I have access to. Help!!! Please?

If your external drive does not have an independent power supply, you may wish to consider a couple of lower-cost options before tossing the drive. Bus-powered drives have no external power source and must get all their power from the computer. They can exceed the computer's USB energy budget.
    Cheapest option:
1 Meter USB 2.0 A to 5 Pin Mini B Cable - Auxiliary USB "Y" Power Design for external hard drives.
This gets power from two of the computers USB porst sna can provide enough power to wake up an under-performaing bus-powered drive.
If you don't have enough ports to use this, try the next cheapest option:
Newer Technology 7 Port Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Hub with Power Adapter for Mac & PC
Such a hub has a an independent power supply to make up for wahat the comptuer fails to provide.

  • Home Sharing/Apple Remote Suddenly Stops

I have been having this problem for as long as Home Sharing and the Apple Remote for iPhone has been available. I am throwing out to see if someone can help. Here's the background.
    1. One day Home Sharing (iTunes 10.0.1 but also in iTunes 9.x) works, and then a few days later, it will not work. A few days later, it works again.
    2. When Home Sharing stops, I get the messages about Firewall settings, but I have made no changes to any settings. I am using 10.6.4. I have tried turning off the Firewall and restarting the computer, but that did not work. I currently have the Firewall on and it is set to allow incoming connections to iTunes.
    3. When Home Sharing stops, Apple Remote on my iPhone also no longer connects to iTunes.
    4. 2 iPhones can still connect to my other computer running Tiger. It is always the Snow Leopard computer that has the connection issue.
    5. My IPv4 addresses did not change on any device.
    6. I have IPv6 turned to Off.
    7. All my devices are running on the same WiFi network. No other connections are effected, and the iPhones connect to the Tiger computer with no problem.
    8. I have tried uninstalling iTunes, and removed all iTunes related files as outlined on the Apple support page. After a fresh install, Home Sharing still did not work.
    9. I have tried uninstalling the Apple Remote App on my iPhone, but it did not work.
    10. When Home Sharing Stops, no iPhones can be paired to iTunes to be able to use Remote.
    11. I have tried renaming my iTunes library.
    12. Restarting the computer does not change anything.
    13. I have not changed any network settings.
    13. Mysteriously, for no apparent reason, Home Sharing and the Remote will start working again at some point.
So there is some sort of connection issue happening that is beyond me. It is only in iTunes on my 10.6.4 computer. Only iTunes is affected. Time Capsule is backing up. All other connections to the internet work fine. Sync is never interrupted.
I believe someone out there has the answer! Genius, help me!
Thanks in advance for reading and any help that can be offered.

I'm having this issue as well and it's extremely frustrating. Everything worked fine before I got my Apple TV a few days ago and turned on home sharing as part of the setup. Ever since then I've had these bizarre intermittent issues where my remote app can't see my iTunes library. It will work fine, then stop working, then 10 minutes later it will randomly start working again. I can't determine any kind of pattern as to what's happening, but it definitely has something to do with either my Apple TV or home sharing because my previous setup worked flawlessly for months before I started using ATV and home sharing.
I would love to see an acknowledgment of this problem by Apple and an indication that a fix is on the way. The frustration comes from not knowing what on earth is going on and if there is anything I can do to fix it.

  • Apple TV suddenly stopped playing any video

Yesterady my apple tv stopped playing any type of video. This includes movies I've purchased on iTunes, previews on iTunes, Hulu, Netflix. I click play on the video the spinner pops up and the video *almost* starts and then just cancels itself going back to the previous screen. I've tried:
    1. Restarting ATV
    2. Resetting ATV
    3. Testing network connection on ATV -> all is ok
    4. Restarting my router & ATV
I'm able to go on the internet with other devices so I know I have internet connection. I'm also able to sign into the Apple Network with my ATV so I believe it has internet connection as well.

So we have this ATT provider in common.
Based upon this other discussion --  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5565870?start=0&tstart=0 --   I ran the Netflix video called 'Example Short 23.976' -- though I had to wait about 15 minutes for it to start playing, it eventually did. I have the U-Verse service of 12 MBPS, and speedtest.net confirms that is what I am indeed getting.  But the results showing in Example Short 23.976 should be (and used to be) 5800 kbps; tonight it is 230 kbps, then 500, then 1000, then 2000, then freeze, buffer for a minute, then back down to 230 kbps.
I suggest you run the Netflix video called 'Example Short 23.976' both during prime time hours and at other times during the day, and report back to us with your results.  I have a suspicion this is an ATT problem.

  • AT A LOSS - Apple TV Suddenly Stops Working

Quick background -- I have an eligible MacBook and the newest AppleTV and everything has been working ok for months. Suddenly, no AppleTV icon on my MacBook (or my iPhone for that matter). I tried everything -- restarting, resetting the AppleTV... and then when I finally decided to try resetting the router and resetting everything else again, the icon showed up! But it didn't work (when I clicked on the icon and turned on mirroring, nothing happened). And then it disappeared again. All software is up to date, and I haven't seen any other tips in other threads that have worked. Again, my hardware is eligible/compatible and everything has been working fine for months. Any thoughts?

if your wifi router still have the default name it came with and several networks in the area is using the same name that could cause issues
another thing which could cause issues is if many wifi networks in the area use the same wifi channel as your wifi router
another thing then the "default" 2.4Ghz wifi band is a very very used band microwave ovens, dect phones, bluetooth and many other things use 2.4Ghz
and that can cause disturbances so if your setup support 5Ghz wifi then it can at times be more stable
another thing is that router manufactures now and again fix bugs and release new firmware for the routers so one can at times benefit of updating the wifi router firmware for better compatability

This behavior indicates that there is a hardware issue with the Apple TV.

  • Why has my Apple TV suddenly stopped accepting my password?

My new Apple TV - 6 months old - has decided to start rejecting my log-in details on the TV screen menu. It used to work fine but now I can't get past the log-in screen. Hope the guarantee is still good.

Take a look at this thread.
My new Apple TV cuts out periodically during TV and movies, and my serial number is DY*******RHN.  Has this been recalled?
    Hope this helps!

  • Iphone 4 Apps (non Apple) have suddenly stopped working

I let the battery run completely flat on my iphone 4 last night - fell asleep listening to tune in radio. When I plugged the phone back into the charger the date on my phone had reset to 1 January 1970 and the time was about 8 hours behind UK time. All of the apps icons were still there but when I click on the icon the app title page momentarily flashes on the screen before failing. The apple apps are working fine and the ipod music is all there.
I noticed from other posts that a similar problem occurred last year with the iphone 3gs. Has anyone else experienced this problem with the iphone 4 and can anyone suggest how I can get my apps to work. I really want to avoid having to reset the phone and reload all the apps if possible.

Try downloading a free app from the iTunes app store with your iPhone and using the app. If the new app work, try the others.

  • My Apple TV suddenly stopped connecting to the server and the network.  All devices in my house work just fine. Habe tried unpluggin, reset all settings, and disconnecting wireless and reconnecting, nothing works.  Please help very frustrating

Tried all troubleshooting; unplugged, reset all settings, disconnected and reconnected wireless
The device woked fine for over a month until today
All other devices in my home are working just fine
    very frustrating
    please help

But my current sim card works just fine in my friends iphone 5...wouldnt the logic follow that the problem is with the device itself (the phone) and not the card?

  • IPhone 4s suddenly stopped connecting to 3G network

I have been using my phone all day, on imessage with a few people.
My 3G network was working perfectly fine earlier today until about 2 hours ago when I noticed the messages I was sending were no longer being sent to the people I was talking to.
The 3G network symbol no longer appears in the left corner of my screen. I have full bars and I am connected to wi-fi but none of my messages will send to anyone. Also, Facebook, Twitter, and some other apps say I have no connection too.
I have no idea what's wrong. I've rebooted my phone a couple times, turned the 3G network on and off, reset my network settings.. still nothing seems to be working.
If anyone knows how to fix this problem, please let me know.
    Thank you.

    Hi ejd:
Thanks for posting your troubleshooting steps. The auto-configure option generally works fine, but occasionally, it will not configure Wi-Fi networks automatically.  You can follow the troubleshooting steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398 There's a segment that shows how to manually configure the Wi-Fi connection called "If you're unable to locate or join a nearby Wi-Fi network.
Give those steps a try, and let us know your results.  You may need to call your Internet provider for help on locating your Wi-Fi settings on your computer.

  • First generation apple tv suddenly does not connect to iTunes

Three days ago my First Generation Apple TV suddenly stopped connecting to iTunes.  Anyone else having the issues?

That is weird. My Gen.1 Apple TV started to behave wonky a few days ago. It shows in the settings as being connected to iTunes, but I cannot access trailers, there are no settings to access iTunes in the menu either. It actually lost all of the local synced content and after a restart, everything copies over again. It is very sluggish and I have not tried to play a movie yet.
There appear to be a few threads on this, all within the last few days. I really like my old Gen.1 and want to keep it running. Help!
