My Apple wireless keyboard cannot pair with ipad 2012

My Apple wireless keyboard does not work with both of my( and my wife's ) new iPads 3. It's failed to pair with them.
It does work with my original iPad. What should I do ? Thanks

  • TA24778 issues with pairing an Apple wireless keyboard by bluetooth with iPad Mini

Does anyone have any tips about successfully pairing an Ipad Mini with an Apple Wireless keyboard, please? Apart from changing the batteries on the keyboard, I have had a lot of difficulty in doing it successfully.

Which Apple wireless keyboard are you using?
See this Apple doc -> iOS: Apple Wireless Keyboard compatibility
The original Apple Wireless Keyboard, introduced in 2003, is not compatible:
Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003): Features a white case and uses four AA batteries.
If you're using a compatible keyboard, does it pair with your Mac? Try turning it off and then back on and then pairing it again.

  • Can't get Apple bluetooth keyboard to pair with iPad mini.  It pairs okay with my Touch.

Is there a problem with the new operating system on the iPad that keeps the Apple bluetooth keyboard from pairing?

I have the same issue after todays upgrade.
Solved by using third party bluetooth dongle
    Definitely a yosemite software issue.

Never mind...  Didn't see the "not compatible"...  Stupid...  It's bluetooth.  Bluetooth apple should connect to bluetooth apple...  Period...

  • Cannot get new Apple wireless keyboard to pair

I've followed the "how to" document but it does not work -- I'm assuming those instructions applied to the previous generation apple wireless keyboard, but not the new aluminum series.
When I "Add new connection" (either Express or Custom mode) a dialogue box pops up asking me to enter a PIN on the keyboard and press enter. I enter the number given, but I get an error message that authentication "went wrong." I've heard that I need to enter a PIN of 0000 for the keyboard to work, but the Toshiba Bluetooth stack doesn't seem to want to let me choose my own PIN - it always chooses for me.
I have uninstalled the Toshiba stack and tried the XP SP2 stack -- it works with the new apple keyboard when a PIN of 0000 is used. Unfortunately, the XP SP2 stack doesn't have the other profiles I need so I can't really use it.
    Has anyone figured this out?

So you have entered the according PIN code into the Bluetooth keyboard (not the PC keyboard ! ) and "Link Level Security" was enabled - Is this correct ?
Which Apple keyboard model do you use ?

  • Wireless keyboard needs pairing with my iMac

I changed the batteries in my wireless keyboard and now need to pair it again with my iMac. However I need to type in my password to wake up the computer - which I can't do without the keyboard! Any ideas?

    Hi Charliecornwall,
When changing the batteries on an Apple Wireless Keyboard, the computer should maintain the pairing. If it does not, you may be able to restart the computer, and if it does not detect a paired keyboard, it should prompt you to pair it. Alternately, if you have access to a USB keyboard, that may also be used to bypass the wake screen password so you can pair the wirless keyboard.

  • Apple wireless keyboard on XP with D-Link DBT-120

It was effortless to pair my aluminum Apple wireless keyboard with Windows XP SP2 using the D-Link DBT-120 (Ver. C1) Bluetooth USB dongle. It paired just like any Bluetooth keyboard and works well when it's connected.
The XP box the keyboard is paired with never sleeps, but when I come in in the morning the keyboard doesn't work. I always have to delete it from the Bluetooth Manager and re-pair it. It seems that the long overnight period of inactivity causes the connection to fail, even though my machine doesn't sleep or get rebooted.
This same keyboard stayed paired with the same PC for weeks when I was using a Logitech Bluetooth dongle (WIDCOMM stack), so I'm guessing this is a D-Link issue or perhaps a quirk of the Toshiba Bluetooth stack. I even put fresh batteries in the keyboard to make sure it wasn't just starting to run low on power.
Does anyone have any idea why a long period of inactivity (with no sleep or reboots) might cause Bluetooth connection problems between Apple's keyboard and XP/DBT-120?

I tried to do what you described in this post but it does NOT work. I have a D-Link DBT-122 and Win XP running on a PC and the wireless keyboard.
I type the code in the grey field with an USB keyboard and then I do the same with the wireless one and press "Enter" but it does NOT work.
Did you miss a step in your description?

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard and annoyance with fn and backspace key

    Hi everybody,
Just took delivery of this beautiful Apple Wireless Keyboard but having only one problem with it. I've figured out how in System Preferences/Keyboard & Mouse/Keyboard it's possible to check the box which allows the F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys but when it's checked I also have to use the fn key to make the Backspace key work like a normal backspace. If I don't use the fn key the Backspace key will eat any type in front of the curser instead of backing up and eating the type behind it. Why is this..? I mean the Backspace Key isn't even on the same row as all the F keys are so why am I having to use the fn key to change the function of the Backspace key..? Actually it would be nicer if the function of with or without the fn key was reversed. Anyone know how I can change that..?
    paul

    Ahhh forget it..
I realized having that option checked made other keys do screwy things as well unless I used the fn key with them so I've gone back to using the fn key only when I need to use the F keys..

  • My apple bluetooth keyboard is paired with laptop but will not connect.  mouse is working fine.

apple bluetooth keyboard is paired but not connecting to laptop.  mouse works fine.

i am finding it depends greatly on the batteries you put in
I work for a company that produces batteries...ours work, other brands sometimes do not. if they are manufactured just a hair out of spec, they wont connect consistently...
    they must wobble cuasing flucuations
same with the mouse...if you use a bit of blue tack, it holds the batteries in, problems solved
the keyboard is a little different and I cant figure out a macguiver fix

  • Is the Apple Wireless Keyboard fully compatible with Windows 7 in Boot Camp?

If you have an iMac running Snow Leopard and Windows 7, will the Apple Wireless Keyboard work properly in Windows 7 (via Boot Camp)?
I'm asking because a friend of mine has an Apple Wired Keyboard that they want to get rid of, and upgrade to an Apple Wireless Keyboard. However, their concern is that the Apple Wireless Keyboard won't work properly (or reliably) when they run Windows 7 on their iMac.

I'm using an Apple Wireless Keyboard running Boot Camp and Windows 7 64 bit right now typing this.   Seems to run just fine under Windows 7 for me.  Some of the familiar Windows keyboard keys are not present, of course, though there are key mappings to get to those too.  I actually like this keyboard a lot, under Windows 7 or OS X.

  • IPad will no longer sync with desktop Outlook programs.  Wireless keyboard cannot find the iPad.  Cannot reset the iPad.  What is wrong?

This problem developed in mid December. the synching worked perfectly on my 18 month old iPad 2 until then.  Now the iPad will not sink my calendar, contacts and notes from my desktop Outlook program.  It does seem to sync my pictures. the wireless keyboard had no problem recognizing the iPad until mid-December.  I tried to reset the iPad by pressing the on off and home button concurrently.  The iPad logo appeared but the iPad did not reset.  Instead, my full configuration on the iPad along with all of my apps simply reappeared.  I am at a loss as to what happened and what to do about it.

Your post indicates iOS 4.3 which is now quite old.  I am going to suggest restoring your iPad, which, among other things, will update your iOS to the current version.
I recommend restoring your iPad.  Make sure you have the current version of iTunes on your computer (currently 11.0.1).  Plug your iPad into your computer, let it sync, then press "Restore" on the right side when the summary page of the iPad is displayed in iTuens' display.

  • Wireless keyboard not pairing with IMac while mouse

I am having trouble with the wireless keyboard entering my password when booting up. It will not let me enter any characters. My wireless mouse & trackpad seem to work fine. Right now I am submitting this issue through my Ipad (3rd Gen) using the same keyboard that will not pair with my IMac. I called Apple tech yesterday and he had me remove  the new batteries from the keyboard and depress the power button for one minute, then replace the batteries and power up the Imac. That solution seemed to work yesterday. Last evening i shut the machine down and tried to start today and had the same issue. The keyboard is working fine with this Ipad and had no trouble recognizing it on bluetooth. Has anybody had this same problem, I was considering purchasing a USB apple keyboard until I tried the keyboard with a different device (my ipad)

How did you get on? My brother is having a similar problem, he bought a replacement wireless keyboard which is not recognized by/paired with his iMac and thus he can't login..

    Hello H:
These forums are not chat rooms, but since you used my name I will address your post.
    Do you work for Apple?
No. These are user-to-user forums. The forums are moderated by Apple, but do not represent official responses from the company. If an Apple employee would post here (very rare), they would have either a purple apple (forum host) or a silver apple (employee) under their name.
Every post about this issue, going back to early 2009 you have made the SAME suggestion. It doesn't work.
That statement is inaccurate. If you read the posts carefully, I do not cut/paste the same suggestion to address issues. However, trying to address issues without hands-on access to devices necessarily requires one to suggest solutions that have worked in similar situations. Bluetooth issues are not rocket science and there are only a few things that are available to resolve problems. If you look at the little blue bars next to my name that represent user +"thank yous+" for suggestions that worked, I must have made a few suggestions that did work.
Like everyone else that tries to help others here, we are unpaid volunteers. If you have better sources to obtain information, I certainly recommend that you seek those sources out. If you have issues with Apple, take them up with the company. Ranting here about your particular problem is not helping anyone.

  • When choosing to use the Apple wireless keyboard,re-pairing must be done every time. Is this normal?

I must go through the pairing process every time I use the wireless keyboard with the Apple TV. Is this normal, and to be expected?

This will most likely help a bunch.....it did a complete fix for me.  Follow it step-by-step.
    1.   Open "System Preferences".   ( computer only), (Windows computer unknown)
    2.   Open "Network".
    3.   Click on the "Sprocket with down arrow".
    4.   Select "Make Service Order"
    5.   Move the connection your using (Wifi, Ethernet, etc.) to the top, and click Apply.
    6.   If you selected Ethernet, then turn OFF Wifi in the top menu.
    7.   Shut DOWN your computer and then restart after completely shutting down.
7a. Either restart or unplug and plug in the Apple TV (insure your logged into Home Share after restart).
7b. Start iTunes (insure your logged into Home Share).
    Enjoy life again!

  • White A1016 wireless keyboard not pairing with new MacBook Pro

I still have (and love) the original white bluetooth Mac keyboard (model A1016, with numeric keypad and function keys). It won't pair to my new MacBook Pro. It's discoverable, appears in the list, I can select it and try to pair. Then it sits with the spinning wheel for some time before giving up.
Oddly, if I press "return" during the spinning, it (very) briefly displays the passcode, but of course by then it's too late, and fails saying that I got the passcode wrong!
This appears to be a Bluetooth system preference problem - is anyone else seeing this?
This Apple technote suggests that this keyboard should work with iOS, whereas the original aluminium one doesn't (although it's not entirely clear)... if it works with iOS, I can't see why it won't work with OS X 10.8.4!

My old Bluetooth Mighty Mouse won't work with my newer MBP running Mountain Lion, either. I suspect that the keyboard is incompatible with your new machine/OS X 10.8.x.
