My Apple Wireless keyboard is adding letters to things I type

There are a few keys that are affected. I litterally can not type. Here is an example of me writing "Hello, can you please fix my keyboard? I want to be able to type to others."
Hewllo, cxan you plewasew fsix my kewyboarwds? I want to bew ablew to typew to othewrws.
Please help! What is wrong??? I have to check and delete after every letter.

It appears to be out of date so far as the warranty is concerned. There may have been some minor detritus slipped down the side of the key. See if you can find a buush with stiff but fine hair. Perhaps a toothbrush. Then brush around the key. It is possible to remove the key if you are very careful and that would make it easier but you have to be very careful. You are sure there hasn't been any liquid spilt; even the smallest amount can cause a drama..

Kind of struggling whether should i buy a wireless keyboard for my ipad air 2 as i may have lotta word job related to Chinese and French, and i know that French is okay with the English keyboard, at least much eaiser than typing Chinese characters.

Apple Wireless Keyboard ddouble double first letters

My Apple Wireless Keyboard, bluetoothed to my iPad 4th Generation, will have double or tripple first letters. This just started in the last few weeks. It seems to happen when the keyboard must be "asleep" and just first typing. I'll type for a few minutes, and it works just fine. Then go away, and when I come back and type on it again, it will ddouble the first letter.
Anyone else? What did you do to fix it?

My Apple wireless keyboard also double types the first letter usually after I pause for several minutes. It often happens when I am using a "search box".Then of course the double first letter makes the word unsearchable and I have to go back to delete that one letter. Annoying. I use the keyboard with an iPad Air. Based upon the "needs charging" comment above, I checked my batteries and found they were a little over 50%. But I changed them anyway. The double letter problem seemed to almost go away the first day with the new batteries. Now I am on my second day with the new batteries and the double first letter is beginning to appear with greater frequency. The keyboard doesn't have an on-off switch so maybe the problem is power related.

Ever since I used an apple wireless keyboard, the onscreen keyboard will not appear

I have been using the iPad for several years. Recently I added the apple wireless keyboard. Ever since, when I do not have the apple wireless keyboard the onscreen keyboard refuses to appear. Makes entering text difficult! Wuld be happy to learn of a solution. Thanks.

Did you turn off Bluetooth after turning off the Apple Wireless Keyboard? Open Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off.
Another thing you can do is, before turning off the keyboard, select a text box on the iPad (for example, when you type an email or you type on a Safari webpage) and press Eject key on the keyboard, so the virtual keyboard will show

2009 Apple Wireless Keyboard

I recently purchased a 2009 Apple Wireless Keyboard from eBay - that was "in perfect working order."
When I recieved the product, I connected everything as shown in the Apple directions, but there was a problem.
My issue is that it seems as though the Left Shift key is stuck, however, not physically stuck. Everything I type will be in capital letters and when I type a number, I get the secondary output (ex. 3 will equal #.) The right Shift key doesn't work at all. I turned it off/on, with no avail. Then I noticed that my windows are moving very slowly! It takes almost 30 seconds for a window minimize.
I went through Apple, so I could find all of the updates for everything I would need: Bluetooth, wireless keyboard, etc.
After installing the updates that I needed, and disregarding the ones I didn't - I restarted my computer and the keyboard still didn't function properly.
Am I missing something? Or should I take advantage of the 30 day warranty and get it replaced?
I'm using the white Macbook (mid 2009).

ICloud does not synchronize Notes.app with Apple Wireless Keyboard in use

I own an Apple Wireless Keyboard and an iPhone 4 with the newest software, iOS5.1
When using the build-in Notes application by Apple and the original Apple Wireless Keyboard, synchronizing fails. I guess this is because Notes.app never triggers the "synchronize event", like it does when using the on-screen-keyboard. The trigger "done" is just missing. This error might also happen in other (build-in) apps, I've just seen it with the Notes.app
Could you please tell me if you already know this issue and are working on it? I told Apple Support about it for iOS version 5.0 and nothing changed since then. Please advise.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that notes syncing (mail and notes on a computer) is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the notes you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by checking in accounts on an iOS device, or the left side panel in mail on a computer), non iCloud notes will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your notes are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking notes syncing (mail and notes on a computer) in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling notes syncing.

What battery to use in an Apple Wireless Keyboard

Hello. I bought a used Apple Wireless Keyboard (short, two batteries to be inserted), but can't find any information on what type of battery to use (rechargeable or no) other than the very vague information "AA". Batteries seem to have two main values, the mAh (as far as I understand, that stands for duration only—but don't we need an Ampere value, too?) and voltage. At least a voltage information would be helpful. 1.2V, as I read, will be considered by the mac as "low on battery", but I'm sure there is an upper limit, too, isn't there?
I'm not asking for an introduction to electryphysics here, although it may sound that way. Really all I want to know is: What pair of rechargeable batteries to buy.

Nope. Rechargeables are all 1.2v. They do not last as long as rechargeables, but that makes no difference to me. I use 2450 mAh Energizers and a 15 minute Energizer charger (all obtained on eBay - new - at a very reasonable cost).
IMHO, rechargeables are better (long term) and are also environmentally friendly.

Apple Wireless Keyboard help needed

My wife's computer is a 24" 2.33ghz Intel Core 2 duo iMac, 2gb ram, OS 10.4.9
2 days ago her Apple Wireless keyboard stopped being recognized by the computer. When I turn it on the light blinks, but the computer never recognizes it. When I go to the bluetooth setup assistant and try to manually setup a "keyboard", it never recognizes it.
However, if I try to setup "any device", the keyboard shows up in the list, but still cannot be paired with. I am using the wireless mighty mouse, it still works perfectly fine.
I have not done any updates on this system in weeks, 10.4.9 was updated on March 17th, the keyboard did not go down until 48 hours ago. (I know, it could still be a software conflict/issue, but each day after a change it usually becomes less likely)
No other software has been added to the computer since the updates in mid-March, and as I said the keyboard is recognized if I set up any device, but not cannot be paired with. Nothing was moved, installed (hardware or software) or dropped, so I am stumped.
Have reset the PRAM, SMC, turned bluetooth off and on, changed keyboard batteries, deleted the bluetooth prefs (as per macfixit article) all to no avail.
Any ideas before bringing in for service would be welcome.

Me too, the exact same symptoms. It may help troubleshooting to know the following:
- The same occurred with a PPC G4 Mac mini running Mac OS X 10.4.8 (could even have been 10.4.7, can't remember). Problem persists after updating to 10.4.9.
- The behaviour is exactly the same on an Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook 2.0 GHz running Mac OS X 10.4.9.
- The problem started after the batteries went completely flat.
I've checked with the Bluetooth utility from Developer Tools; the keyboard is alive but reports itself as "Unknown".
I wanted to try updating the keyboard firmware using the Apple Wireless Keyboard Updater 1.1 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/wirelesskeyboardmousefirmwareupdate.html) in the hope that it would make the keyboard report itself correctly again. But the updater just crashes in 10.4.9 (or Tiger in general), because it uses a private framework that has apparently been removed.
I borrowed Panther installation disks from a friend to run the updater, but I can't boot even my mini with them because it shipped with Tiger.

Apple Wireless Keyboard is lagging and disconnecting when using Macbook Pro via Bootcamp

I am using my Macbook Pro (I think from 2009) with an external monitor and the apple wireless keyboard (connection via Bluetooth).
First when I set up Bootcamp everything worked fine. But now suddenly the keyboard is lagging (letters sometimes appear after a few seconds or get stuck and typed 20 times or something) and randomly completely disconnecting.
I already downloaded the newest drivers for Boot Camp 64bit from the apple website, but this didnt solve my problem.
I tried disconnecting the keyboard on mac and then reconnecting on the Windows 7 partition again. Also didn't work.
Of course I had to reconnect the keyboard when on the mac.
But it's not that it's not working. I'm using the keyboard via Bootcamp right now. It's just that it's randomly doing this...
Now I don't know what to do. Do some of you have the same issues or have any ideas that might help?

Wacom Tablet causes Apple wireless keyboard to stop working.

My Wacom tablet/pen causes my Apple wireless keyboard to stop working. While working on a photo in Photoshop using my Apple (usb) mouse to make selections the keyboard works fine. When I use the Wacom Pen to make selections, not immediately but anywhere from five to ten minutes into it, I hear what sounds like a chirp from my computer (Mac Pro) and my keyboard stops working. The command, option, control and direction keys still work but not the number and letter keys. I have to connect a spare Logitech keyboard via USB in order to continue and not loose my work. After awhile I will hear the chirp again and the Apple keyboard will start working. This will continue to occur at irregular intervals. Without the spare keyboard I've had to reboot my computer (loosing all the work on the photo) to get the keyboard working again, but only for it to reoccur. Any suggestions to fix this would be appreciated.

The Mac inherently keeps all input methods active, such that you could type alternate keys on alternate keyboards.
If you have third party add-ons that might change the way Bluetooth works, those would be the primary suspects.
Be sure all your Drivers are completely up-to-date, and batteries in battery-powered devices are still strong.
Bluetooth uses the same part of the frequency spectrum (but a different modulation technique) as cheap WiFi Routers, baby monitors, and microwave ovens. if you live in a busy apartment building, there may be very high levels of interference.

I have an apple wireless keyboard, but I recently just purchased and apple keyboard with numeric keypad and I am wondering if I need to unpair the apple wireless keyboard from bluetooth or I dont know but, my new keyboard is wired so it should work already, correct?????

I believe that when you plug in the USB keyboard, that one should control the device.
However, why not either unpaid or turn the Bluetooth device off?

How do you get the Apple Wireless Keyboard to accept function keys?

I use the Apple Wireless Keyboard with my iPad2 and I use the VPN to connect to my work-related software which requires that I use some of the function keys as actual F1, F2, F3,...etc. When I hit F2, the iPad2 responds with the Screen Brighter action. How do I get the keyboard input to just be F2? Thanks!

How do I pair my new Mac mini (mid 2011) and white Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003)?

I just bought a new Mac mini (mid 2011) and can not set it up via my Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003). I'm disheartened but not surprised that my Bluetooth 4.0 Mac isn't backwards-compatible with my Bluetooth 1.0 keyboard. But I can't find any documentation confirming the fact that my non-paired, but tested & perfectly functioning keyboard will not work with current Macs.
I was however, able to locate a tech support doc (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4112) that mentions my Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003) is not compatible with iOS devices. (Which is not critical because iOS provides a non-physical keyboard. Aside, it would be lovely were Apple to add a non-physical keyboard to Mac OS X, if only so new desktop owners can continue to set up their Macs in a pinch.)

I just bought a new mini mac (lion 2011) with a wireless keyboard. I could not get the mac to recognise the keyboard. Spent several hours back with the Genius team who replaced keyboard and mac but did not get anywhere. They gave me a wired keyboard, was able to configure the mac and then it recognised the wireless keyboard.
Seems this is a problem with the new mac/OS

New apple wireless keyboard & iPad 3 pairing question

Bought a new Apple wireless keyboard this week. Had some trouble pairing with iPad 3. Took me 4-5 attempts but it finally paired successfully after 10-15 minutes. Question for all you gurus... When the wireless keyboard arrived on Friday, I first paired it with my MacBook Pro. Could that have caused issues when I re-paired the wireless keyboard (today) with my iPad 3. And further, this will sound like a silly question, can the wireless keyboard be paired with two devices? I don't mean simultaneously. Does it screw up any settings to use the key board with separate devices/computers? Wondering -- if I keep my wireless keyboard at my office -- can I go to work with either my MBP or my iPad and simply use this one wireless keyboard? Or should each device have its own dedicated wireless keyboard? That seems redundant but I kind of love this keyboard already and would be willing to buy a second, if need be. Obviously, I don't want to spend extra money if it isn't necessary. Am I going to have to re-pair the keyboard and device each time I switch between the iPad and the MBP? Thanks all. Thanks for the quick reply Skydiver! So...I really should buy a second wireless keyboard so that I don't have to go through the hassle of re-pairing the keyboard when i switch devices, yes? Yes, I believe I've answered my own question as I now sit here with my MBP attempting to pair it to the keyboard. Oy. Taking forever. I don't mind buying a second -- for $69, it seems to be the most efficient thing to do. Now I just need to figure out a way to designate which wireless keyboard goes with which device. Time to buy a little sticker! Thanks again.

Apple wireless keyboard, mouse and trackpad battery management is SO MESSED UP! HELP!

I have like 2 dozen batteries that I have swapped in the days since 10.8.4. The **** thing just drains in like 4 days. I am using apple wireless keyboard and mouse/trackpad (either at a time) with my macbook pro that is in closed lide clamshell mode less than a feet away from these devices. the batteries are draining like crazy! 3-4 days! they used to work for like weeks! i have heard in another thread that there is some bluetooth driver issue.
i know many of you would come up with things to check for like other wireless devices, etc. but like I said i have been using this since 2011 and only now since 10.8.4 they have gone crazy!
whats even more weird is that i dont think the batteries are really draining. its something to do with the battery management hardware/software that fails to see the power inside. when i remove the currently dead battery and put in one that was indicated having 0% charger i get a magically 50+ % sometimes event 80! a reboot and the figure is something else! since this is happening with all the three input devices i think its something to do with macbook pro.
any fix?

SOLUTION:
Put the devices in "Manual paring mode"
1. Turn device off.
2. Push and hold in power button until the LED starts flashing on and off.
3. Try the paring procedure.
4. It should work.
I went to the apple store and this is what they did. They got the trackpad paired no problem, but the keyboard would refuse to make connection. At first they blamed windows and didn't want to replace the keyboard because it worked fine under OSX. However I made them try one of their keyboards and it paired fine. So they ended up swapping out my keyboard for one of the newer ones and now it pairs with both windows and OSX with no problem!
