My AppleWorks spread sheet has started crashing.  I just upgraded AppleWorks from 6 to 6.2.9, but it still crashes when I try to save changes or print.  I run 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.  This same spread sheet does not crash on my other two Macs.  Please help, I use this spread sheet daily in my business.  Jeanie

Did you apply the security update to this Mac & not the others? If you did, check Software Update again. Apple has released an updated security update. This has fixed the problems caused by the first version.

  • AppleWorks crashes when I try to Save As

When I try to "Save As" an AppleWorks 6 file, it crashes. I'm running Snow Leapord on a Macbook Pro. Here is a typical file name: "Positive Responses.ckw" Is the problem with the ckw?

Check Software Update. Apple has released an updated security update. This does seem to have fixed the problems.
FWIW, I'm sure your AppleWorks files have the extension .cwk.

  • HP 1312nfi Multi-funtion printer & brand new Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I just got my Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard May 2010. I can only print and fax with my 1 year old HP 1312nfi color laserjet multi-function printer. I cannot SCAN at all. I tried loading the software that came with the printer but it wouldn't install the 'Print Director' as I had on my old iMac (with Leopard). Then I went to HP and it said not to install the software that came with the HP printer because Snow Leopard has it all. I read that there are 3 ways to scan from my computer which none of them work. I brought up the printer then clicked printer setup and when I try to bring up the 'print utility' from the last tab, it won't open anything. Where is the printer utility now? Why can't I scan? There has to be a way. HELP please?

Found the answer on the HP site. It's the original software that works with this printer OS X 10.6!!

  • Changes in DNS resolution in Mac OS X Snow Leopard

Disclaimer: Apple does not necessarily endorse any suggestions, solutions, or third-party software products that may be mentioned in the topic below. Apple encourages you to first seek a solution at Apple Support. The following links are provided as is, with no guarantee of the effectiveness or reliability of the information. Apple does not guarantee that these links will be maintained or functional at any given time. Use the information below at your own discretion.
There have been two major changes in DNS resolution in Mac OS X Snow Leopard as compared to Mac OS X Leopard and previous releases, and this tip is intended to explain them.
    1) User-specified DNS servers, if any, are now used to the exclusion of all others
DNS server addresses may be manually-specified by users via the Networking preference pane by selecting the active interface (e.g. AirPort, Ethernet, etc.), the clicking the "Advanced…" button in the lower right hand corner of the window, and selecting the "DNS" tab.
DNS server addresses may also be provided by a DHCP server.
In Mac OS X Snow Leopard, if any DNS servers are manually specified, they will be the only DNS servers consulted; any DNS servers specified via DHCP will be ignored
This differs from Mac OS X Leopard and previous releases of Mac OS X, as in those releases, if DNS servers were specified manually as well as provided via DHCP, the manually-specified server(s) would be queried first, and if those requests failed, requests would then be sent to any DNS server(s) specified via DHCP.
This means that in Mac OS X Snow Leopard, if queries to manually-specified DNS servers fail, the request will be considered to have failed and no DHCP-specified DNS server will ever be queried.
Users may encounter this because at some point a DNS server (which is no longer functioning or reachable) was manually set in a work or other environment and they had forgotten about it since the previous behavior was for failed requests to "fall through" to DHCP-specified servers.
Because of the change in behavior, those same systems will fail to resolve any DNS requests in Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
    2) mDNSResponder does not honor DNS server ordering
While not explicitly documented, in Mac OS X versions earlier than Snow Leopard, DNS servers, whether specified manually or via DHCP, were queried in the order they were provided. For manual specification, this means in the order shown in the appropriate Network preferences pane tab, and for DHCP users in the order specified by the DHCP server.
This is no longer true in Mac OS X Snow Leopard; instead mDNSResponder now seems to occasionally change the order in which it queries DNS servers from that in which they were specified.
This has caused some users issues when DNS servers are specified in a specific sequence.
For example, say your network has two DNS servers, a main server at address 192.168.100.1, and a secondary server at 192.168.100.2, which is normally only to be used if the primary DNS server fails as it is slower and/or has a slower link to the Internet.
If they were specified in that order, past versions of Mac OS X would query them in that order, and unless a failure occurred contacting the primary server, the second server specified would never be contacted.
In Mac OS X Snow Leopard, under various conditions mDNSResponder will instead decide to route all DNS queries to the second DNS server specified, perhaps as a method of routing DNS queries in a round-robin fashion.
Nevertheless, this behavior is unexpected to most users, and may cause issues if the previous behavior was expected.
The only workaround is to realize that Mac OS X Snow Leopard treats all specified DNS servers as being equally capable and to specify DNS servers, either manually or via DHCP, accordingly.

I'm having this issue as well only with a little different twist I guess. I'm transferring the iWorks applications from my Macbook Pro 3,1 with Lion to a new MBP 10,1 running Mountain Lion. I transferred the apps over using DropCopy since the older MBP doesn't have AirPlay. Applications show up but crash upon opening. This is the first install so there are no previous plist, versions or such to delete. All three crashed upon opening every time until I just had to have Keynote and purchased again - although Apple agreed to refund that purchase since my previous version quit working. Any ideas since I don't have any previous plist/versions to delete? Thanks in adavnce for any help you can offer.

This problem is not unheard of when upgrading from Snow Leopard. It is usually solved by completely deleting the existing printer in System Preferences > Print & Scan, and adding it again.

  • PPCC crashes when I try to save

Having a major issue after the new update to Premiere Pro CC.  While the multicam issue has been fixed, when I try to save the project I'm in, it spins its wheels and will not finish the save.  After canceling the save, I get the "rainbow wheel of death" and have to force-quit PP, losing all of the work I had done.  Very odd and can happen immediately if I try to save before beginning any work after opening the project, or after doing work for awhile and trying to save.
I just moved over to PPCC from FCP, but am now moving back to FCP to get the project finished after doing half of it in PPCC.
    My stats:
MacBook Pro 2GHz Intel Core i7
8GB Ram Memory, AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256MB Graphics
    OS X 10.8.4
    PPCC 7.0.1 (105)
    Any suggestions?

Let's start by determining whether this crash is specific to this imported FCP project. What happens if you create a new project, edit a bit, and then save--without ever importing the FCP XML?
If you find that you can save new projects without issue, then try re-exporting the XML from FCP in case something went awry at that stage in the process the first time.
Does the Events panel in PPro report any issues when you import the FCP XML or while editing in that project?

  • Illustrator hangs or crashes when I try to save as PDF

I am using Illustrator to creates designs for a Flex app. My document has a lot of symbols, rasterized images and layers (it's about 8.1 MB).
Illustrator has stopped doing two things that I need it to do:
    1) It just hangs (infinite beachball on OS X) when I try to Save As an "Acrobat Viewable" AI file.
    2) It also hangs (or crashes on my PC) when I try to save as PDF, regardless of the options I choose.
I can Save or Save As as long as I don't include Acrobat support.
    Any ideas on this? Thanks!

Started eliminating layers, one by one, and trying a PDF export.
It hung and hung and hung until I had deleted about 10 first level layers... then it hung for a bit and boom! It exported.
I went into the original doc and deleted the last layer I had removed from the test doc and it hung as usual.
My conclusion? No bad objects - just too many layers for Illustrator to handle in a timely manner. I've officially taxed the program, which was totally crashing it on my Windows machine.
Why so many layers? Since I am skinning a Flex app by exporting a .swf skin file from Illustrator, I have all of the app layouts in one .ai file. This consists of 46 first level layers, and hundreds of secondary and tertiary layers. It also includes a truckload of embedded graphics sprinkled throughout for layout purposes. Plus symbols.
It's just too much for Illustrator - a program not really designed for this workflow - to handle.
I don't want to make separate files for each site section as that'd require me to port the symbols back and forth all the time when I make a simple change, like a button style adjustment.
Any other advice on managing this better is appreciated, but nothing jumps out as an easy and scalable solution.
Thanks for the help, especially jean.

  • My illustator crashes when i try to save  can you please help?

My illustator crashes when i try to save  can you please help? im using Cs6

    Archelass,
If the crashing happens when placing from/saving to new location with Yosemite, you maybe able to get round it by using the Adobe Dialog instead of the OS Dialog in the Place window (similarly for Save As in the Save As window).
If crashing happens when moving objects, the issue may be caused by the Chrome Pushbullet extension, see this post #3 by Matt with the solution,
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/6984777#6984777
or by the Adobe Color extension, see this post #2 byhexxstatic with the solution,
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/7095368#7095368
or by the cache on the computer, see post #5 in this thread by Booklover with the solution,
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1696375
Or, when issues start to appear in general you may try the list.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/preference-file-location-illustrator.html
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • After the latest Security Update 2012-001 (Mac OS X 10.6.8) my Adobe Photoshop CS 8, Dreamweaver 8, and InDesign CS programs crash when I try to save a file.

After the latest Security Update 2012-001 (Mac OS X 10.6.8) my Adobe Photoshop CS 8, Dreamweaver 8, and InDesign CS programs crash when I try to save a file. HELP!!!

    Howdy,
Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.
    You might wish to read:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/index.html#d02feb2012
If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.
    Time Machine restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
    - You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
    - Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
    - Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
    - Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.
