Especially:
"Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide ~/Library/Preferences/ as the path, and move the com.apple.dock.plist file to the desktop. Restart and set the Dock up again."
Another cause of this could be if the application you wanted to open in the Dock got moved from its original location. Example: If I had Pages in my Dock and I moved where Pages was located then I would probably get a "?" in the Dock.

Today out of blue I started having issues with applications such as Safari and iTunes showing a question mark over them when I click to open. This isn't happening on Firefox, but on Safari, Word, iTunes and a few other things.

Why all of a sudden are my images missing and have question marks

Hi Guys,
Really irritating thing has started to happen when I use pages. I start my document as usual, drag and drop images into it then save. When I try to resave it complains of not being able to save the document. I then save as another file name, try to reopen and all my images are now boxes with question marks on them. I havent moved any folders or anything. Its only recently started doing this. I'm on Pages 4.1.
Can anyone help me please?

1 in 7 people here bother thanking us for helping them, so the points don't really reflect how much work we put into answering their problems.
Some even provide basic information to help resolve their own issues. Some are like the Korean lady who asked me to set up a Korean DTP system for her years ago. It was obvious that she wasn't giving me all the disks necessary for the Korean installion, grudgingly I dragged them out of her one by one.
I remember looking her in the eyes and wondering exactly what was going on in her mind, I knew one of us wanted to get the job done and go home. Still a mystery to me to this day. But then she is not alone in this world.

The exclamation mark means the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. This can happen if you or some other software moves, renames or deletes the files. Select an affected file and press CTRL-I to Get Info. Look at the summary tab and the entry near the bottom that says Where: This will start file://... and gives the last known/expected location of the file. The last part of that path will be of the form <filename>.<ext> where the <filename> is typically <track no.> <track name>. Search your computer for the specific filename to see if you can find where the file has been moved to. Ideally just move it back to where iTunes wants it to be. With luck you'll find that a bunch of folders has just been moved to the wrong place and you can move them back as a job lot.

On web pages and in the ap store. In place of the graphic there's a little box with a question mark in it.
I can't even connect to a web page right now. I've got three bars on the wifi icon but safari just keeps trying until it says it can't connect to the server. Same with the ap store, I've been trying all afternoon to download a new ap with no success. It came right through on my iphone on the same wifi network. Had the same problem on my home network. I'm new to apple and I've only had the iphone and the ipad for a little over a week, but all this seems to have started after the most recent software update.
Is this all related?

All assets have question marks and no relink window in Muse v 7.2

I upgraded my Adobe Muse to v 7.2. Now all the assets placed with my previous version of Muse show up in the assets panel of Muse v7.2 with a question mark beside them, but no relink window opens after launching Muse v 7.2 to acknowledge missing asset links or to enable me to relink missing assets. How do I relink missing asset links in Muse 7.2 without a relink window opening? Is there a relink option or button somewhere in Muse 7.2? If so, where is it located?

If this isn't appearing for you, please report what version of Muse and AIR you're using (as reported in the About Adobe Muse dialog). Also, what type of pointing device are you using (i.e. Apple mouse, Wacom tablet, etc.)?

Make sure your system software is up to date.
Click the Apple  menu (top left in your screen) then click: Software Update ...
And try troubleshooting Flash. Uninstall then reinstall.

Dissapearing Applications with Question Mark?

The Mail application dissapeared and a question mark covered the icon in the dock. Searched the hard drive for the application, no luck. This happened once before with the calculator program, never found an answer or a way to recover. I now use the widget calculator instead. I purchased the computer in 12/05 and still have trouble deciphering how OSX manages files, etc. I miss OS9.
I also tried to reinstall Mail after reinstalling the OSX apps, receive an error message "There were errors installing the program" Please try installing again.

Maybe that explains the other, less disruptive anomalies I have encountered. The HELP program in osx sometimes fails to provide any information when requested, the HP Photo printer is recognized, but never accesses the images on the camera (the printer is a dock also), and there are times when my main printer settings (another printer attached via airport base station) fail and must be reset with some difficulty.
I ordered a new external hard drive to backup my internal, then I'll reinstall osx from the cd's and see what happens next. I really hope something IS wrong with the internal HD as I am a long time Mac user and I'd hate to think this is where Apple has led me. The OSX has some advantages, although I switched to Apple for ease of use and to avoid spending hours learning all the IT programming and hardware maintenance that comes with PC. I expect my Mac to be sturdy and intuitive. That's why I was willing to pay twice the cost of a PC for my Mac.
I can't thank you enough for your advice. Apple only offers 90 days tech support and I'm just too busy to call them for anything other than a major glitch.

Images have question mark e-mail and web pages

Why are half of all images not there,replaced with blue box with question marks. Anything on line , like emails ,web sights. No rime or reason. Please help me out. I am new with apple, not computers.... Thank You, kimbr

at the top of this forum you should see your locaton, (change) Welcome USERNAME Sign Out
IF you click My Verizon do you see a quick signing on page (you should) then you should see xxx emails and be able to click that link to see emails. Once in a while It shows signed out (before the 2 weeks are up) and I have to click the link a second time to connect. I always use the "stay logged in for 2 weeks option"

Once you get this fixed, the email client should easily be resolved (what client do you use? )

Pictures in older text messages now have question marks

Seems after upgrading to 8.11, older text messages with pictures have had the pictures replaced by question marks. I have googled and tried resetting network settings and stuff like that to no avail. Current and new messages seem to be fine, seems to affect messages that were received while on 7.x I just updated to 8.12 and the issue still persists.

Ever since I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Lion I've noticed a large question mark in the finder window header. There is a smaller one beneath it, and they're both located just to the left of the search window.

So I have been trying to find a happy solution for automatic syncing between my mac, my blackberry and google contacts. I am trying to do this so that I can have two phones address books stay synced. Unfortunately somewhere in trying to make this work a large portion of my contacts were changed. The main change is that thy now have 2 question marks after the first name and after the last name of the contact. Many of these also had question marks inserted after the street address, city, state and zip code. I have gone through and edited out everything on my mac address book but I still get the question marks appearing on my blackberry when I resync. I have tried missing sync, google sync, the blackberry sync program and they all end up transferring contacts with question marks

I have the same problem. It's an issue with google sync and the blackberries. I have yet to find a solution. It's very frustrating because this makes voice dialing from my address book impossible. I've tried editing the contacts, but that doesn't work either. The only thing that works is creating the contact on the blackberry, but I am not going to do this for 150+ contacts, emails, phones, etc, etc...

Those are aggregated by the Gantt chart. Right-click the block in question and hit "Expand" or equivalent. MWM v2.0 will aggregate Activities in the Gantt chart for display purposes if the Activities are similar.

New Hard Drive still have Question Mark Folder

So I first got the 'Question Mark Folder' and had to keep running Safe Boot Mode to use computer. Finally got around to replacing the Hard Drive, but this Question Mark Folder still comes up trying to turn the computer on and now trying to setup the new hard drive. Won't let me do anything. I've tried all of the button combos/recovery mode/etc. Tried inserting both a backup disk of Mavericks and Snow Leopard, nothing. Is there any other problems that could cause this? Maybe a dead SATA cable? or something else small hopefully?

My newest Mac just did the same "folder of death" dance. It's too late for you now, but you might consider a passport backup drive.You can get 2&3 T-bytes now fairly reasonably priced. A given with computers is they will crash, just a question of how bad and when, so you can be prepared for the next time.
