My applications keep closing automatically like Google Earth, Microsoft Word

Just recently, my applications close automatically, such as Microsoft Word, Google Earth, iPhoto. When I click on a video in iPhoto it automatically shuts down iPhoto. I am not able to view any videos in my iPhoto. It comes up with a message saying that the application closed because of a problem.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

One thing to check: when shutting down or restarting, there is a checkbox in the shutdown/restart dialog which asks whether you want currently open applications to open at startup.

You can try to do a hard reboot but without knowing what app it is there is no way others can troubleshoot it if the app if bad.

While launching Editor 12, Keep Ctrl+Alt+Shift (WIN)/ Cmd+Option+Shift (MAC) keys pressed and click OK on Delete Preferences file dialog that pops up and see if it helps.

Applications keep closing unexpectedly, virus?

Recently, while using my computer, applications started closing unexpectedly. Activity Monitor shows that RAM and CPU are at normal levels. Also, the computer regularly freezes, and acts oddly. I did a reset - turn off computer, hold Shift, Control, Option and Power Button at the same time, release, then power on by pressing Power Button. It helped a bit, but applications still close regularly... By the way, I get the error message, prompting you to send an error report to apple when the apps close. Before the reset, I tried several times to do a scan with iAntiVirus (app store No.1 free app, made by Norton), but each time, it either froze up LOADS or the computer restarted... Suspicious. I understand that macs can get viruses, but unless this is a delayed action virus, I don't know how that is possible... The only thing I downloaded recently was a plugin for a game: it had many positive comments, so that can't be a virus... What do I do?
NOTE: I am writing this on a seperate computer. For obvious reasons.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application (Safari) or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

How do you import maps like "Google Earth?"

Hi putting together a travel DVD and wanted to have maps of countries we had visited and then zoom in on smaller areas and towns. Anyone know a software package or web link for this? Cheers

I've used Road Trip and it works fine. It's not fancy, but it gets the job done. The standard version is $9.95 USD. I've downloaded a demo version of iShowU, but have not used it. It's priced at $42 USD. I think you could use iShowU to capture the motion of a Google Earth "fly to" animation. It would certainly be less expensive than the high priced Google Earth option.

Applications keep closing by themsleves

Hi,
has anyone been experiencing applications on the iPhone closing on their own (safari, photos, etc..). It saves what i was working on, but closes the app and takes me to the main screen several times.

I'm seeing this behavior. I got the phone Friday, and I've been running it continuously since then. The frequency has been increasing over time. I discovered this after a bit of searching:

I rebooted or soft reset the iPhone and that's cleared up the behavior, at least temporarily. I'm certain this a memory bug. I'm hoping Apple is paying attention to these forums and will fix these key problems.
When I was looking at the phone, I stopped by an AT&T store. A docked, publicly available iPhone would do exactly the same thing. I mistakenly took it for an anomaly.

Safari keep closing automatically

I just updated my iphone 3gs to 4.3.5. And when I tried to open safari,it close after 2 seconds. I tried to reboot it or turn it off and on even reset the setting ,but it still not working.Could anyone tell me what should I do?

Now that you've cleared those settings, try another reset... press the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

Premiere Elements keeps closing automatically each time I re open it.

My new Premiere Elements program has been working great since purchased about 1 week ago. Suddenly, the progrom will not run.
It opens for about 1 minute or less and suddenly shuts down for no apparent reasaon.
The same sequence repeats each time I reopen the program.

How do I change my setting so documents no longer open automatically in an old microsoft word vs word10?

I was trying to download a document, however, it wanted to open it in word10 but I don't have that installed on my computer. I then browsed for the old version of word I have and preceded to have it automatically open the document there but when it did, it was symbols and things that were not readable. I tried to download the document again and now it pulls up word with that same document. I need to know how I can go have it set so that it doesn't automatically do that anymore but ask how it did initially? Help!

click on your apple logo - top left - click on restart - take the checkmark off the reopen windows when logging back in....hit restart and see if that works for you

Sounds like Firefox is "hanging at exit". That problem is frequently caused by an Extension or a Plugin. Read all of the following articles.<br /><br />

Why does my app keep closing?

Several of our applications keep closing right after they get initiated. Does anybody know why this happens and how to fix it?

More then likely you dont have any room on your device. You have to check your memory. If it says 0 bytes you may have to delete a couple songs that you dont really want or a lot of unnecessary photos/videos to free up your phone.
Go to: Settings>General>Usage. Then look to see how many bytes of free memory there is. If it says 0 then walla!! Time to delete.
The tricky part is even if you delete a couple it may not pop up in the free bytes that you have freed up any bytes but just know that as long as you delete some stuff to make room there should be that much room. Deleting apps doesnt really work that well but photos and songs work a lot better. This should work, try it and ket me know how it goes!
If not then more then likely your going to have to delete that app and download it again or get a new phone.

What is wrong with the Google Earth app for iPad 3?

I just got a new iPad 3rd gen, and the latest version of the Google Earth app. But everytime it tries to composite the 3D info, like buildings and such, it crashes. Every. Single. Time. What's causing this problem? Is it the app or the iPad? I have an iPhone 4 and the app works fine. Could use suggestions on how make this app work correctly.

The app support asks me to synch the iPad to iTunes on my iMac and then to look for a particular folder on my iMac that's supposed to store crash logs, and then to attach the logs to an email to send to them to review. But no such folder exists. I sent them an email anyway and told them why I couldn't get the logs. But I also noticed all the language in the app support referred only to the iPhone app, and didn't specifically referred to the iPad app, which I know has some differences, such as the 3D imaging on the iPad. As long as I'm not looking at a map with a large city with lots of buildings, the app works fine. But if I try to look at DC or NYC, forget it. The app must be using too much ram and crashing. But I don't know how to turn off the 3D feature since it seems that's what's causing the problem. And I'm wondering if I'm the only iPad 3 user having this issue. Like I said, the iPhone app I have works fine, but it doesn't seem to have the same 3D feature. I really like Google Earth and use it frequently on my Macs and iPhone, but it not working on my brand new retina display iPad 3 is frustrating. I hope I can get this corrected.
