  • Audiobook won't play from iPod

I just downloaded an audiobook (2 files). Both files will play when I launch them from iTunes. I can see the audiobook files on my iPod (music - audiobooks), but when I play them, the file looks like it starts to play but then closes after a second and takes me back to the audiobooks menu. If I attempt to play it a second or subsequent time it takes me back to the menu even quicker.
I created a new playlist and copied the files, but I get the same results. Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks.

I am having the same problem.. and it seems that from looking through all the different forums.. lots of other people are having the same issues.. yes.. i did everything on that page.. the 5 "r"s.. etc.. and my files are already have the .mb4 extensions.. The play in Itunes just fine.. show up in my IPOD audiobooks section (which is now in the music section for some reason).. but they don't play on the IPOD.. .. I posted this issue about 2 weeks ago and no one seems to have a solution.. and it seems that Apple doesn't really care.. Up until this book I was download 1-2 books a month.. but no more.. I will just switch back to CDs.. until Apple can solve this issues.. The book in question was "Simple Genius"

  • Part two of my audiobook won't play

I downloaded an audiobook on iTunes and the second part, though it appears to be there, will not play. Please help.

    Do they play in iTunes?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Delete the songs and then rresync or redownload by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • TS1362 Audiobook won't play without wireless connection

Have downloaded audio book from iTunes onto iPhone. When I go to play book get message that says must have wireless connection to play. Why?

There do seem to be quite a few reports of music downloads not playing fully at the moment. Thankfully these can usually be deleted and downloaded again. The same is not true however with audiobooks which are still subject to a one-time only download policy. You will need to contact the iTunes Store support staff through the "report a problem" links in your account history, or via Contact Support.
Just checking, you did buy an audiobook and not an iBook? The latter are designed to be read using the iBooks application on an iOS device and can't be viewed on your Mac.

  • Audiobook won't play

I have one audiobook, which I purchased and downloaded through iTunes.  I was able to transfer it to my iPod via the sync settings in iTunes, but when I tried to play it on my iPod, it would not work.  At first, it wouldn't react when I tried to select the file.  After a few resets, I was able to get it to show up in the 'now playing' window but it would not play or allow me to hit play.  The indicator, which shows what part of the song/audiobook you're up to, did not respond, so it had nothing to do with sound or it being on mute.
How do I get this file to play?

Does it play in iTunes on the computer?
If so delete from the iPod and resync..
    What specific audio book?

  • Audiobooks won't play completely

I have downloaded several audiobooks both from store and audible and they have played for many months.  Now, they will not longer play completely.  The book will start but will stop after 5-10 minutes or will jump to the next tract if it is a multi track book.  Help Please!

OK.... I think I found a solution. I just did this procedure, and haven't thoroughly tested it. And it required a step that scared me, but didn't turn out to be too time consuming, and at least as far as I can tell so far, I haven't lost any data.
I did a reset on the iPad. Not just the low level reset, this one is labeled "Erase all content and settings." When you do this, it gives you some warning that you are really pretty much wiping your iPad clean, and it gives you a choice of restoring from your Mac, or from the Cloud. Since I am not really using the cloud much, it turns out my last backup on the cloud was a while ago, so I went with the backup from my mac, which was from earlier today.
I think the process took maybe 15 minutes. I just checked, and the audiobook that I want to hear is now working. So are my other audiobooks. Looks like all my apps are there. My emails are there.
If I risked anything by doing this, I am not aware that catastrophe was incurred. I am happy to have fixed it. And I remain unhappy that the whole thing happened. I was completely in to hearing this book. And in the last two days since things went haywire, I spent six hours in the car, time I could have put to better use. Oh well. I am healthy and all the wiser. Hope this helps others.

  • Audible Audiobooks Won't Play

I recently joined Audible.com and downloaded a couple of books. Neither one will play properly on my iPhone though both play fine on iTunes on my PC. The iPhone behaviour is to start playing and then stop some random time into the book - about 5 mins in one case. Anybody have the same problem and/or ideas for a fix?

Hi there. I signed up for the discussion board to reply to your question. I've just signed up for Audible with an iPhone and am having the same problems. Either the file starts, then stops at a random point. Or it returns to the main menu instead of playing. When I can get the files to play, the sound is distorted. I've tried downloading file formats 3 and 4 without success. I've combed all discussion boards and this is the only place where I found anyone with a similar experience. Are we alone on this, I wonder? If you've solved your problem in the meantime, perhaps you could let me know what you did?
    Cheers!

  • Audiobook Files Won't Play In Order

I listen to a lot of audiobooks on my phone. Sometimes I'm ripping them from CDs I buy sometimes I'm getting them online. The problem I have is the tracks won't play in the right order on my phone. They will on my Mac. When I load the tracks into iTunes I open Get Info, I set the Track Numbers & Disc numbers under the info tab, I change the Media Kind to Audiobook & check Remember playback position, Skip when shuffling, & Part of a gapless album under the options tab. And select Yes where appropriate. The files are in the right order on my computer. They will play in the right order on my computer but not on my phone. The files are in the right order on my phone. If you start playing a file you have the screen that shows the album art. If you tap the little screen comes on that has the little ticker with the length of the file, and the play options. Above the ticker it will say 1 of 8 or 2 of 8 or whatever. The second number is always the number of tracks and it is right. But the first number doesn't always correspond to the actual track # you are playing. I might be playing track 32 and it says 1 of 32. It doesn't make sense. Why will it hop from 1 to 16 to 32 to 2 to 5. I don't remember it doing this before the new version of iTunes came out. It's very frustrating that I have to manually pick the next track for it to play since it won't just go to the next track.

The solution, as ridiculously simple as it may sound, is to turn off "SHUFFLE". The tricky part is that you can't actually turn off shuffle when playing an audiobook. In the audiobook control on top, there are three toggles, from left to right they are: repeat, jump back 30 seconds, and double/half speed. Whereas for music files, the three toggles are: repeat, genius and shuffle. What you need to do is to play a music file, turn off the shuffle from there, and then play the audiobook.
It makes sense that you can't set Shuffle when playing audiobooks, since you generally won't want to play audiobooks in random order. The problem is that, even when playing audiobooks, the shuffle setting is retained from music player mode. It's very obviously a design defect; shuffle should be automatically OFF when playing audiobooks.
This worked for me. Thanks very much!!! I actually thought of this solution but didn't try it since it seemed so ridiculous that Apple would miss such an obvious bug.

Try deleting the song and redownloading it if you are in a country (USA is one) that allows free redownloads by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

Bought audiobook in iTunes store, can play it on my computer, but not my touch. It shows up in my audio book file under music but it won't play. Any suggestions on how to fix this? (I tried making it into a playlist but when I synced it, it don't show up on the Touch)

I could not find an option to "report a problem".
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

I recently had to get a new windows computer, old one crashed. My tech guy got all my itunes library over to the new one, and all my songs are there. However, some won't play and ask me for the password for the apple id they were purchased under. 2 of these ids are obsolete and I have no access to those accts. The songs all played on my old computer without prompting me for a password.
Any ideas how I can get around this hassle and get them all to play? We're talking about 800 songs that are being obstinate. The new computer is authorized under my "new" Apple id, which I have used for years.

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies currently available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list, or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.

How can I download a previously downloaded purchase to my iTunes library on my laptop when the listing for the song in my library won't play because it says it cannot locate the file. Yes I have searched my iTunes folders and also done a full windows search. The track plays on my iPad and my iPhones but will not play on my laptop!?
It has an "!" To the left of the song title in my library
My worry is that if I sync my iPad/iPhone then I will lose the track on those also!

If you cannot find the file on your hard drive then once you delete the current broken entry you should be able to redownload from iTunes in the Cloud. This assumes the item in question qualifies. Note that audiobooks, digital booklets, iTunes LPs & Extras, ringtones, selected movies etc. don't.
If prompted don't hide the item. You may find that you need to close and then reopen iTunes before it will appear for download.
