My averages in Numbers for IPad are incorrect

I'm not sure why but my averages are incorrect as the formula goes. I would do the math myself, but it's more than just once.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I'd love some help.
I'll try to post a screen shot.

Hi Kevin,
Chances are there is something in the way you've set up the formula that is giving you the unexpected result.
On the Mac you can post a screenshot this way:
1. shift-command-4
2. holding mouse down drag crosshairs across the area you want to capture, and release
3. a file named something like Screen Shot 2014-01-29 at 7.27.28 AM.png will be placed on desktop
4. in editor here click camera icon, 'Choose File', navigate to the file on the Desktop and click, click 'Choose', click 'Insert Image'
Sometimes the "camera" doesn't work the first time, so you just redo the steps in 4.
On the iPad you cannot post a screenshot using the built-in Safari Mobile.  But you can post an image from your camera roll (including screenshots placed there in the usual way when you hold down the power on-off button and click the home button) using a third-party browser such as Mercury (just set User Agent to 'Safari(Mac OSX)'. )

  • Sort a row in Numbers for iPad

I have a list of names along the header row of a table in Numbers for iPad. I'd like to put them in alphabetical order from left to right. Bearing in mind that I'm a newby to apple, could anyone help? (If I were using MS excel I'd use sort data and set it row)
I have considered transposing the row to a column and I can sort a column, but the transpose command is proving tricky (Again if I were using MS Excel I would use paste special transpose.)

Generally, you are more likely to get an answer if you post in the iWork for iOS forum at

  • Dates in numbers for iPad 2

I have see many complaints about Numbers for IPad not being able to handle dates very well, especially when in porting an Excel sheet. Is this a problem ?
I have many Excel sheets that require dates, will I be able to use them ?
    Thanks

Your friend was close, but forgot one thing. If you want it to be blank if either cell is MT, then you need an OR as well o test if either one or the other is blank...
    =IF(OR(ISBLANK(a1),ISBLANK(b1)),"",a1xb1)
The isblank can also be represetned by ="" in many cases, usually accompanied with a trim to make sure there are no spaces were entered...
    =IF(OR(TRIM(a1)="",TRIM(b1)="")),"",a1xb1)

Here you are in a forum dedicated to Numbers for OSX.
Your question is about Numbers for iOS which is a different application.
Would be more efficient to ask in the forum dedicated to iWork for iOS.

  • Using Voiceover in Numbers for iPad

I am a blind iPad Mini user looking for the correct gestures for using the Numbers App with VoiceOver. I am not understanding how to navigate the spreadsheets or make changes in them.  Does anyone know of a good resource for this? All the ones I have found online are not specific to the Numbers App.

I have submitted an enhancement request via Apple's iPad feedback and hoping that future versions of Numbers for iPad would have the ability to password protect table cells, and also have the abilty to disable the delete function within Forms.
Would appreciate any further halp on a possble workaround in the mean time.
    Thanks

  • Cell Comments in Numbers for iPad

I am thinking of buying the Numbers for iPad app (in spite of the frightening number of poor reviews of this product!) and am wondering if anybody knows whether or not Cell Comments transfer over from Numbers on the iMac to Numbers on the iPad.
It seems that there are effectively two different pieces of software that share the same name but that the mobile version is very basic.
    Thanks!
    Matthew

As long as the row is formatted as text you will get the text keyboard and not the number, date or formula keyboard. Generally what happens when you insert a row it copies the format of the cell above.
I have only had trouble occasionally when using a form and the cell is not formatted the way I need it to be. Usually when that has happened I have been inserting and deleting rows in an almost random fashion.
When I am in the sheet itself it is easy to tap the "T" to get the text input.

  • Numbers for iPad if statement

I am using numbers for iPad and am trying to do a if statement. Cell A1 has a value of 2 and cell A2 has a value of 3. If I see if(A1<3) I get true if I do if(A1<A2) I get false... Can I not compare two cell values?

I may be misunderstanding what you want but here is a start. To make it easier to do the conditional formatting of 30 rows, I suggest putting the color in column C, not column B. If the formatting is in column B you will have to manually edit all 30 of them. In column C, you can copy/paste the format to all the rows.
    1. Put the correct answers in column D. You will hide this column after everything is set up.
    2. In C1 put the formula =IF(B="","", IF(B=D,D,D&" ")) . This will make C1 blank until an answer is typed into B1. Then it will provide the correct answer (with a single space appended to the end if B has an incorrect answer).
    3. Create a conditional format for C1 that is "if text contains a space then fill red".
    4. Drag-fill or copy/paste C1 to the rest of the column.
    5. Hide column D

  • New Templates for Numbers for iPad

Does anyone know how to add additional templates (in addition to the ones that come with Numbers for iPad App)?

    Anthony,
I don't know, but there's a good chance that if you post in the iPad Numbers discussion area you'll find someone who does. This discussion is for Mac Numbers questions. Navigate first to iPad, then iWork for iPad, then Numbers.

  • I have created a spreadsheet on numbers for ipad with a list of customers as a drop down menu. How can i make their address appear underneath when i select the customer?

I have created a spreadsheet on numbers for ipad with a list of customers as a drop down menu. How can i make their address appear underneath when I select the customer?
    iselect the customer?

    Hi bazza,
We won't be able to put the address from a formula into the same cell that you enter the customer's name. We can put the address in the cell under the customers name.
First let's take James advice and concatenate the address in the address table.
Here is the formula in G2
    =CONCATENATE(B2&"
    ",C2&"
    ",D2&"
    ",E2)
It shows this way because after I clicked on B2 and typed [&"] (no brackets) I typed option-return
This gives you your new line. Then I typed the closing ". I repeated this for the rest of the address.
Next we want to bring this to your order sheet. I prefer using the two formulas OFFSET and MATCH instead of VLOOKUP.
base tells OFFSETwhere to start counting from. Click A1.
row-offset is for the row. we will use MATCH() -1 to give us the row.
What MATCH does is give you the row number where something is found and you can specify an exact match. I usually construct the MATCH formula first and then cut and paste it into OFFSET. MATCH looks like this: MATCH(A2,Table 1::A,0). A2 is what we are looking for, Table 1A::A is where we are looking (the entire column A), and 0 means we want an exact match. Can you see it inside the OFFSET formula? Notice that we had to subtract 1 from its result.
column-offset tells OFFSET which column A=0 so we want 6.
we ignore "rows", "colomns" we don't need them.
If this seems like too much, just break it down into small pieces.

  • Where  do I find basic instructions on Numbers for iPad?

I bought numbers for ipad to have a portable spreadsheet program to use in the field.  I previously used HanDBase with my smart phone.  I'm having problems with figuring out how to use numbers.  For example, I entered two columns of numbers and wanted to calculate a correlation coefficient.  I could enter the numbers and highlight them, bu I was unable to make the program apply the formula to those numbers.
Where can I find out how to use this program? It isn't intuitively obvious to me.  Are there any books written on the subject?

    Bottlerocket,
When you open a spreadsheet on your iPad there is a Help File readily available under the Tool Menu (the wrench icon in the upper right) - it has a search option and can provide instructions to entering formulas on the iPad in Numbers.
Additional help can be found in two downloadable PDF files: Numbers '09 User Guide  http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Numbers09_UserGuide.pdf  and The Formula and Functions User Guide  http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Formulas_and_Functions_User_Guide.pdf - both are for Numbers '09 for OSX but many of the principles are the same with iOS Numbers and OSX Numbers
Remember, too, that if you "dump" your iPad Numbers app (i.e., delete it from your iPad) any files created by it are also deleted - be sure you transfer any files you wish to keep before "dumping" Numbers. Personnaly, I think you will miss some of the real pleasures of using Numbers if you do, but Happy Computing to you.

  • Mail Merge using data from Numbers for iPad

    Here is my situation:
I use Numbers for iPad to collect data on-site when I'm doing estimates. I then download the data from iCloud to Numbers on my laptop and complete the estimates. I would then like to be able to merge the data into a proposal template I've created in Pages.
The issue seems to be that Numbers for iPad removes header rows but Pages won't accept a Numbers document as a merge source unless it has header rows.
Has anyone found a workaround for this?

I was using Excel and Word for my small business. Then in 2007 I upgraded the whole office to Apple, began using Numbers for basic invoicing. Back then, the solution I found was to use CSV export to InDesign. A few days back I downloaded the 09 tryout and thought using mail merge would be easy.
I get the false populating too: I assume it comes from empty records, as they do not overwrite field names. Somehow I don't think I'm going to go through 2 years of accounting records to reformat my spreadsheet, just so Pages can correctly work with data that is in fact correctly formatted.
Also, there must be an option with the mail merge feature to choose which records I want to merge?!? The current solution (duplicating and erasing unwanted ones) is ridiculous, hiding unwanted rows in Numbers also doesn't work.
As most of the new features in iWork 09 are cosmetic, this one would have been a reason to use iWork as a real office suite. Pity - not really worth the update.

  • Numbers for iPad help

    Hi there.
I Need help with a problem I have.
I Have 2 spreadsheets on the same file on numbers for iPad.  What I want to achieve is can I get data in say cell c12 to be auto fill on sheet 2 cell b18?
if this is possible how would I do this and what would the formula be.
    Pease help.

I have posted two pictures of my screen through Flickr here is the first screen shot
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/50204668@N08/6938627557/
    And the second
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/50204668@N08/6792513356/
Basically what it looks like is that of the 11 columns that I have only 8 of them are showing up. The first column (book title) is "hiding" the other 3 columns below it. I have tried resizing all the columns do they are smaller and that doesn't work. What is odd is that when I view the same spreadsheet on my iPhone 4s all the. Olin's show up and work just fine. Hopefully the pictures work ok and someone would be able to help me.
    Thanks again!

  • How can I insert an image into a cell in Numbers for iPad?

    Hi,
is there any way to insert an image inside a cell using Numbers for iPad? I tried doing it on desktop version and it works, then I shared it through iwork.com and downloaded into my iPad and it's showing fine on the iPad ( although there's no way to edit or change the image inside the cell ) but when I try to do the same task on iPad itself, the image always comes floating even if I place the cursor inside a cell before inserting.
any idea how to do it or if it's even possible?
    thanks.
    John

Images can be added to cells only as "image fill." Cell fill is an attribute of the cell, not content of the cell. Only cell content can be retrieved by a formula or by copying the content of the cell.
Copying the cell will also copy its format, including the image fill, but I've found no way to extract the image from the cell.
    Regards,
    Barry
