hi i bought macbook pro retina 13(osx mavericks) few days back i observed that my keyboard backlight doesn't turn on auto in dark i have to manually turn it on every time so i want to know whether apple has removed this auto turn on in new mavericks or is i m having a issue with my keyboard

Auto keyboard backlight still exists: System Preferences -> Keyboard -> "Adjust keyboard brightness in low light". Is that option selected? If so, deselect and select it again. If that doesn't work: Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • Screen not blanking properly (Backlight doesn't turn off)

I've been facing a weird problem lately. Whenever I leave my laptop on for a while when I'm logged on in X (I use KDE), the screen turns off after 10 minutes. All well and good. But whenever the laptop idle when logged on to a virtual console, after 15 minuites of idling, the display blanks, but the backlight stays on. The display becomes a wall of white. Is there any way to make the backlight switch off as well along with the screen blanking? I'm not using pm-utils or acpid to manage power on the virtual console right now. I'm using the logind.conf defaults.

For future reference, don't assume that people will see your signature.  Not only do most people disregard signatures, but there is the ability to turn off the signatures in your user settings.

  • Displays backlight doesn't turn off completely!?

When I fade off the backlight of the display there is a spot in the center where i still can see what is displayed, the rest is dark. It seems also that this spot grew in the last time a bit.In the dark this spot is clearly more light than the rest of the display. its about the size of a golf ball.
Anyone who has the same "problem"? Any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help!

Are you sure it is not just a result of room light bleeding in through the back of the case where the Apple logo is? With the MacBook turned off or sleeping, look at the dark screen while holding the MacBook up to a window. You will see that outside light from the window shines through the Apple logo and the screen. Could that be what you are seeing?

  • Imac with black screen, backlight doesn't turn on

I was just wondering if anybody got the same problem (maybe found a solution):
Since i got my imac 2 weeks ago, it always had problems to start up, so it seemed. I figured out that it is just the backlight not turning itself on every start up. So far i tried the new EFI (B03-something), resetting ram (cmdopt+pr), shared screen with a macbook (it is properly working), unplugging it and dvd-start up.
Funny eneough, last time it worked was straight after the efi update, although the backlight was going crazy. anyways forcing the display to sleep once and waking it solved the problem. as i was doing a TM-backup (Airdisk, so took quite a long time) the pc didn't sleep, just the display did. Everything fine so far (waking it was no problem at all), but right after the TM-backup the pc went into sleep-mode. guess what? no way to reactivate the backlight!
anyone found a solution to this? I reckon it isn't simply about the hardware and its not just the software, so it might be the efi itself => so, there should be more out there with this kind of problem.

Ok, riddle solved: multiple hardware failure. It couldn't be fixed, so apple called immediatly and offered a new imac, new model as well, so I'm happy (if the new one works ). Must have been quite a tricky case, but I can't complain as i got a really good support during the time.
Hopefully the new one will arrive within the next week.

  • Ipod backlight doesn't turn off even though i hold the menu for 3 seconds

    PLEAASER HELP

You need to get to the iPod menu and locate the "Settings". Select this and find & select "Backlight Timer", scroll & select "2" or "5 seconds".
If you want to shut down the ipod, hold the play/ pause button until the ipod shuts off, (usually a few seconds).

  • Zen Xtra Backlight doesn't turn off, OS free

A problem started today where my 40gb Zen Xtra can no longer get past the EAX screen, and stays lit the entire time. I'm unable to turn it off except by removing the battery, and as soon as I put the battery back in, it automatically turns back on and freezes again. I reset, then I went to recovery mode and cleaned up the OS, but the same problem persists.
I notice that at some point from the time the player turns on to the time it freezes, I feel my hard dri've stop vibrating, and I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
    Any suggestions or ideas?
    Thanks!

my zen xtra has done the same thing. it wont turn off. it wont go any further. i have gone to the rescue mode and tried all the options except reloading the os because i am afriad then i wont even have a os since it wont connect to my computer thru USB either. this is the second time i have had a major problem with it. the first time it completely failed on me and went to rescue mode everytime i turned it on. i eventually had to get a rma for it because the hard dri've had failed completely. will i need to do that again cause i have looked at every piece of advice available and nothing has helped.

  • Macbook Pro 2009 doesn't turn on without battery

Hi. I have a mbp mid 15" mid 2009 2.66. In time the battery bacame very low like 4% health, and now is completely dead or broken. When i check the battery status leds it shows full and when I try to turn on the computer (of course with AC power) it tries to turn on for 1 sec then it dies, even with AC plug. i hear the fans trying to spin for 1 sec or less, i hear the hdd sound and i see the standby led like it is trying to power on normally but It seems like it's trying to use the battery to power on. (Even when the battery was good, it would't turn on if it was 0%.. i would have to wait 10-20min or whatever to charge it to aprox20% or whatever).
I can't buy a new battery right now so I tried to turn it on without battery (I am sure the battery is completely dead and if I put a new battery it will work for sure) but why it doesn't turn on without battery?? I don't believe it needs battery to run on AC power. It's a SMC thing. What can i do to use the SMC and run the computer wihout battery? Now I'm using it with SMC bypass (keep pushing power for 10 sec and plug the ac chord) but with SMC bybass the fans run at max speed, no keyboard backlight no sensors and all that uses smc its not working. Is it safe to use it that way? (it's not running slower, i don't have performance issues).
I tried PRAM reset SMC reset, removing battery with AC on.. nothing works. It won't turn on without battery. Only with smc bybass.
It is something i can do? or buying a new battery is the only solution?
    Thanks.

You have a hardware problem. More than likely it is the cable that goes from the logic board to the display. It sounds like an internmitent short. Works sometimes not at other times.
The only way to fix a hardware problem is to replace the faulty piece of hardware and the only people that do that is either an Apple store or an Apple authorized repair center. That is unless you can diagnose the actual failed hardware part, find one from an Aftermarket Mac parts seller and replace the part yourself.

Does anyone know how to turn it on??

It is working properly now. it was a problem with classpath
settings. Ensured that the classpath is according to what is

Make sure that u have the latest service pack jar file ( for example weblogic510sp11.jar
for service pack 11 - use service pack 8 or later for better NTREALM configuration
) ahead of the weblogicaux.jar in your classpath. This should solve the problem.

  • Backlighting doesn't light off...

    Hey everybody!!
I Have late 2008 Macbook Pro, and installed Windows with bootcamp. Everything goes fine under Leopard, but when I am on Vista, the backlighting doesn't light off, even when I turn the button on its minima. Does anyone have a clue about this?
    Thanks for your answers.

Until Apple releases a corrected driver, the best solution is to tilt your screen back slightly. The light sensor on the new MacBook Pros has been placed near the iSight camera. Pushing your screen back slightly will allow it to pick up more light, which will turn the keyboard lighting off.
The new MacBook Pros are overdue for a Boot Camp update. Stay tuned.

    Please don't shout.
Has the unit EVER been jailbroke?  Has it EVER been dropped?  Did it EVER get excessively wet?  Did you EVER load a pirated developer's version of the IOS?
If "No" to all the above, first try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore and you have IOS-6 or lower, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • My ipad 2 doesn't turn on, My ipad 2 doesn't turn on

I used my ipad two days ago using mail and playng games only for a little time. I turn off ipad. Yesterday morning I tried to turn on my ipad but it seems dead. I try to charge after try all way to turn on it. I left it charging all the night but this morning it doesn't turn on still. Sorry for my english; hope have explained my problem.

Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Macbook Pro Screen doesn't turn on?

So, I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro 15". About two weeks ago, my macbook screen just stopped working. I shut it down, and since then it's been practically "dead". The display doesn't turn on, the logo on the back is off; Essentially, the whole display of the mac doesn't get powered on.  However, the startup noise is still there when I turn it on. I've been using it in a monitor as of now and it works fine with the monitor. This is the thing though, the screen is perfectly fine!! About a week ago in the morning when I turned it on, the display turned on. the screen had been white, and the apple logo popped up, it looked completely fine. Sadly I had to go to school and when I came back, no matter how many times I restarted it or did anything to it, the screen would just not turn on. Yesterday, I was showing my friend and restarted it, turned it on, then nothing. Tried it again while doing random keyboard strokes and the display turns on. Excitement in my eyes, it actually restarts and for the first time in two weeks I was to see my desktop and see my mouse moving around, all the icons, everything! The display and everything on it was working perfectly normal, no noise, no distortion, no odd colour, no issues on the display at all. My friend boots it to windows and the display stops working and again since then it hasn't worked. It's alive and perfectly normal in there, but I just don't know how to give it what it needs to bring it back that way.
Does anyone know anything to help me on this? It's quite frustrating when you see it work, then shut off. I can't use it at school to do my work anymore and it's such a nuisance.
