Hey guys,
Ive been having issues with imac for a while. it started with it getting really slow and unresponsive. Then upon disc utility check, My HD has alot of problems and needed to re-install OSX. I did that and the computer had been working fine for a while. Until today!
So I turned on the imac today for it to only shut down by itself during the grey startup screen.
The only way the computer would turn on is by inserting the mac osx disc in and holding down c. which only gives me the option to re-install mac osx.
Now leopard is being reinstalled as we speak. So what should I do guys? I know my disc is failing, however I am on budget.
Would it work, if I were to buy a external HD and install the OS on that? Any cons here?

There are a couple of tests you can do to see if your HD has failed. Insert the install disc that came with the machine and try to re-do the install. When it gets to the point where it asks which language stop and under Utilities choose Disk Utility. Check to see the status of your internal HD, if it is OK in the SMART status it will say Verified. If it says anything else you can try Repair Disk, if it finds errors you should run RD several times until no errors are detected.
The other test you can do is the Apple Hardware Test. Insert the install disc in the Superdrive and hold down the D key, this will start AHD. You can check the drives integrity here but you cannot do anything to repair it.
If the drive has crashed then you will need to get it replaced, if you have AppleCare this will be covered, if you never got AppleCare you can either attempt it by yourself which isn't for the faint of heart or you can bring it into an AASP to be repaired.

Hey guys, my grandpa's iPod's backlight had been flickering for a long time, and now it's almost completely dead. Is this most definitely a hardware problem or is there another way to solve it?

More than likely, and as you suspected, your hard drive has probably failed.
To be certain you can attempt to RESTORE your iPod by the procedure [*_SHOWN HERE*|http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/fivers/ipod5gen/#]. Choose the RESTORE tab when you get to the site.
If RESTORE does not work then you can be assured that given the circumstances, the HD has failed.

When I check the tablespace its named as "APPS_UNDOTS1" and there are 4 undo....dbf files are present and have enough empty space on this tablespace.

Your music will only be where you put it. It does not magically appear in other places. Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some coutries:

The goal is to mount the combo update .dmg on the desktop and then open and run it. If you can't get to the desktop to begin with, that won't work. Another approach is to treat the Mac's hard disk as just another HD by using a second Mac and then connecting the problematic one via Target Disk Mode. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661. Note that both Macs will need Firewire ports and you'll need a FIrewire cable to connect them. With the combo updater, one of the steps in the process is to select the drive you want to install the update on. Once you're successfully connected in Target Disk Mode, the problematic drive should appear in the list.
If that doesn't work or Target Disk Mode isn't possible, the only other solution is to boot into Recovery Mode; see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718. Note that once booted into recovery mode, you have access to Disk Utility, and you should try running Repair Disk after selecting the bad drive to see if something's wrong with the directory which could be fixed. When you select that drive, you should also look at S.M.A.R.T. Status at the bottom of the window. It should say "Verified." If it says Failing or Failed, the HD needs to be replaced.
If the HD is OK, all that's left that I can think of is to reinstall Lion using Recovery Mode. I hope you've maintained current backups or at least complete Time Machine backups. Of course, if you have a backup and the backup is bootable, you could boot from that, wipe the internal HD clean, and clone the backup onto the internal HD.

SQL Server 2008 Express - timeout issues, "This SqlTransaction has completed; it is no longer usable."

Good morning all! I work for a small business that uses a robust Accounting/Inventory database called Traverse (or Open Systems) and is run on a desktop computer using SQL Server 2008 Express.
We don't have an IT department, but I have a bit of knowledge, so I've been the go-to person to handle any tech support issues in our tiny 5 person office. I've been reading up on SQL Server 2008 Express, but am completely stumped on this issue.
Our database would work consistently well for quite a while - sometimes getting disconnected from the server and requiring a restart of either the SQL Server itself or the Traverse License Server.
About two weeks ago, I noticed that nobody had ever run Windows Update on the desktop that we have SQL Server on, so I spent the better part of a day updating everything, hoping it would help some of the little buggy issues we've been having. Unfortunately,
by applying the updates, I think it may have altered settings - or updated appropriately and our functionality is diminished.
Basically, we have 3 users connecting into the server to use the database at any time. Sometimes we might not be accessing information constantly, and it appears we're getting a timeout message in the SQL Server Log - stating the system was awoken
by user activity after around 25-30 minutes. When this happens, the system is painfully slow and locks up, giving SQL Server Connection errors, or the "This SqlTransaction has completed; it is no longer usable." message. I noticed that
there is a connection timeout of 15 seconds set for our SQL Server, but it's greyed out in the dialog box I saw it in, and am not sure if that's even a culprit.
I'd just like to get this working again to where we can continue to use the database throughout the day without waiting for it to seemingly load all of the data after "waking up". It's to a point that one of my employees is coming into my
office every 5 minutes complaining that she can't do anything in Traverse. I'm about to lose my mind!
If anyone has any clue what could be the issue, I'd be so grateful for help. If you need any logs, messages, etc.. please let me know which and I will share them. Thank you again!

This is known as the Zombie Check exception. It is generally caused by trying to commit a transaction twice or trying to roll back a committed transaction. It can also be caused by a connection closing before the transaction is complete. In you case I would
suspect the latter.

I'm using iTunes 11.1.1 on a Mac mini running OS 10.7.5 and I burn CDs which play in this machine's external optical drive, my car, and the Pioneer audio CD players downstairs. I typically use Verbatim recordble CDs. After selecting the playlist I want to burn, I make sure that "Audio CD" is selected - this has always been the default for me. If this isn't working for you, I don't know what to say - but I'd suspect the drive you're using to burn CDs is getting wonky.
