My battery got really low (~ 7%). Is this OK?

I was playing a very demanding game on my MacBook Air (2013) and after maybe an hour it said something about running on reserve power. The fan was constantly spinning at full speed (around 6000 RPM), and all the graphics settings were on maximum. I wish Mountain Lion would have had a low battery warning instead of just changing the color of the icon, which the game hides anyway. I use my laptop daily at university, and I usually get home after a 10 hour day with the battery around 25%. This is the first time ever that it has gone down below 10%. Did I damage the battery at all? (I think I heard it's not good to let it go below 15%.)

Gaming on battery, see 3B below
Forgetting about draining a battery low for a min. which is bad.
Fast / rapid drain on a battery while gaming is also bad.
When gaming, do so on POWER as much as you can, not on battery.
Example:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6034488?start=0&tstart=0
Contrary to popular myths about notebook batteries, there is protection circuitry in your Macbook and therefore you cannot ‘overcharge’ your notebook when plugged in and already fully charged.
However if you do not plan on using your notebook for several hours, turn it off (plugged in or otherwise), since you do not want your Macbook ‘both always plugged in and in sleep mode’.
Do not perform “battery calibration” on your current Macbook. There is no calibration of current Apple portable Macbooks with built-in batteries.
A lot of battery experts call the use of Lithium-Ion cells the "80% Rule", meaning use 80% of the full charge or so, then recharge them for longer overall life. The main quantified damage done in the use of Lithium Ion batteries are instances where the internal notebook battery is “often drained very low”, this is bad general use of your notebook battery.
All batteries in any device are a consumable meant to be replaced eventually after much time, even under perfect use conditions.
If the massive amount of data that exists on lithium batteries were to be condensed into a simplex, helpful, and memorable bit of information it would be:
1. While realistically a bit impractical during normal everyday use, a lithium battery's longevity and its chemistry's health is most happy swinging back and forth between 20% and 85% charge roughly.
2. Do not purposefully drain your battery very low (10% and less), and do not keep them charged often or always high (100%).
3. Lithium batteries do not like the following:
A: Deep discharges, as meaning roughly 10% or less. Avoid this in all instances if you can. This is hard on your battery.
B: Rapid discharges as referring to energy intensive gaming on battery on a frequent basis (in which case while gaming, if possible, do same on power rather than battery).
C: Constant inflation, as meaning always or most often on charge, and certainly not both in sleep mode and on charge always or often.

  • What does it mean when I get this message:  "Battery is critically low"

I am suddenly getting a message "the battery is critically low" - am I in danger here?????

You're in danger of the Mac shutting down, that's all. Recharge your battery when you get a chance.
If you believe the message is spurious an SMC reset is justified. Read all the steps:
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you can remove
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery (to remove the battery - click here: MacBook or MacBook Pro).
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Still having problems? Replace steps 6 and 7 with the following:
Reconnect just the MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer,
    Then reconnect the battery.

  • Cannot install windows, starting to get really pissed off with this PLEASE HELP

ok, i'm starting to get agitated with this.
i cannot install windows XP, 2003, OR Longhorn on my machine.
right now, i have the following setup:
    msi 865pe neo2 motherboard
    intel p4 3.2ghz w/HT (factory HS/Fan currently)
    1 dimm of PC3200 crucial DDR400
30GB maxtor HD plugged into primary IDE
pioneer dvd/cd drive as sencondary IDE
    alps 3.5" floppy drive
    antec true blue 480wt PSU
    i do the following:
    format with maxtor cd
    boot from OS cd
    start setup, reboot, continue
the farthest i can get is 'registering components/completing installation' i either get a blue screen stop error which isnt the same everytime, or it just locks up and doesnt do anything.
ran the memtest checker and get errors on test #4
i had a DIMM of kingston that gave the same errors, so i RMA'd it and got another. same errors, so i RMA'd again and got a Crucial stick. same errors.
so i RMA'd the motherboard since i figured it had to be that. and it improved from the problems i had earlier. (the problems i had before were worse before.)

  • Curve 8530 Got Really Hot

My 8530 was bought in March of this year.  About a month ago the phone got really hot to the touch and died.  I was given a new battery under warranty, but it just happened again.  My phone was replaced with a re-furb.  That second phone just did the same thing this weekend.  What is wrong with the 8530 that is causing it to heat up like this?

Is this occuring while charging or what? Where is the phone at the time?
I know these batteries do NOT like heat above (roughly speaking) 115+ degrees fahrenheit.
They don't charge well in that kind of heat, the battery drains quicker in that high heat.

  • Fan got really noisy

My G4 has been always quite noisy since I got it like 5 years ago.A month ago I installed a second internal optical driver and also a USB 2.0 controller. The optical driver made a huge noise and shook the computer, so I took it out. The USB controller is working fine. The thing is, just after I did this installation, the computer´s fan got REALLY noisy. Much more than used to be. Since I work with audio, it does affect my work. I did try taking the USB controller out, but still noisy. When I turn on the computer, the fan is pretty quite, but after 1 or 2 minutes it starts to get noisier and noisier even though I am not using any software.
What could it cause that fan noise change?
Should I try replace the fan? witch model shoul I look for?
    Thanks!
    Damião.
    PS:Sorry for English.

    Hello Damião!
Could the dust make fan noisier
It can, but not always. If the fan has a thick but even coating of dirt, the extra weight can make the fan turn more slowly, and the noise is less than normal. On the other hand, an uneven coat of dirt could increase noise if it is enough to upset the balance of the fan.
If the fan is dirty, it is likely that other parts of the air passage system are also dirty. Reduced airflow means less effective cooling and the fans may run faster to overcome it.
    Areas to check for blockage:
    1) There is an air intake behind the four decorative ports on the lower front panel. If you place your hand palm-side up on the lower clear "handle" and curl your fingers, they will be in the intake. There is a perforated metal screen--make sure it is free of "dust bunnies."
    2) there are two small but noisy fans in the front edge of the power supply. Clean them with a brush if needed but do not attempt to open the power supply unless you are a very experienced electronics tech.
    3) The main fan--you've seen that this on is dirty. Check its grills for build-up also.
    4) the back panel, especially internally where air is directed at it.
Computer position can also affect cooling. I attempt to leave at lease six inches (15cm) between the back of the case and any wall or upright desk unit to insure the exhaust air is properly dispersed. I also watch the clutter on my desk to keep any of it from getting behind the lower front handle where the primary air intake is located.
The USB card should not affect temperature and therefore fan noise unless the card required you to install software. In that case, the software running in teh background may be increasing the load on the processors. Most USB cards to not require software to work under Mac OSX.
    PS: Sorry for English.
Your English is many times better than my Portuguese! You are doing very well.
