My battery isn't even lasting an hour on a full charge after upgrading to Mountain Lion!!!

Upgraded last week and now when I take my MacBook Pro (Early 2010) off of charge it won't even last an hour.
This is a joke!

after upgrading to mountain lion, i cannot play any video at all, be it directly off a DVD, or through streaming like youtube, BBC iplayer, love film or even directly off my iTunes library. in each case, all i get is a black screen and no error message.

Hi, i had the same problem and tried this,
Somehow iTunes is tied to Safari. Try this:
Someone mentioned to clear all website data and history in safari, stupid but it was either this or the below that fixed it
    or this,
    Disable Wi-Fi Networking Services
Many users have reported that they’ve solved their issues by disabling Wi-Fi Networking under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. This only relates to your location being used for Wi-Fi Networking, so it doesn’t disable Wi-Fi entirely.
Please let me know if it works.

  • How to correct battery drainage problem after upgrade to mountain lion

My macbook pro battery drains very fast, just used 3% as I am entering this question. This rapid battery drain started after upgrade to mountain lion. Any advice?

This appears to be a problem that's affecting a number of users and has been widely reported. My guess is you're going to have to wait till they do a software update.
There's general tips for conserving battery power on my page here that might ameliorate matters in the meantime:

  • Terrible battery life after upgrading to Mountain Lion

I upgraded to mountain Lion last week and now I'm getting only less than 2 hours of battery life. is there any fixes for this issue?

Usually this means some process is using lots of CPU and hence lots of battery power.  (This certainly could happen after an upgrade if some third party software is now broken.) Have you looked at Activity Monitor (Utilities folder), All Processes, sorted by CPU?

  • Battery, mac book pro, last night i had a full charge and woke up to a red light at 93%

my battery has been replaced once, seems to be fine, until just recently, at my cabin out of phone service area, charged my laptop to 100, and in the morning it was at 90% usually stays plugged in with a full charge all the time, checked power in system info battery says normal, does it sound like natural battery wear??????? replaved the battery 2 years ago........ any thoughts would help,,,, OCD geeez, jason

It's normal. The battery will charge to 100% and then stop charging, until its charge state reaches several percent less, after which it will charge again.
This is an intentional design consideration, to maximize your battery's longevity.
im also in an area where my phone drains quickly as its looking for service, comes in and out, airplane mode fixed that
Are you asking about your MacBook Pro, or an iPhone? The answer is the same in either case, but an iPhone will consume more power in an area of weak cell service.

  • Download, battery, and sleep problems on macbook pro with retina display after upgrading to Mountain lion

After waiting a few days to download OS X Mountain lion, I finally installed it on my new MacBook with retina display a couple days ago. I love the interface and all the new features, but I've noticed some problems I really need to resolve. I'm constantly downloading large files and I noticed thhis change:
Before, on Lion, I could download files from Safari or the Internet and the computer would sleep whenever it was set to on energy preferences and the download would resume. This would let the computer conserve energy so the download could progress further when on battery. Now, I noticed that my computer never goes to sleep! Its set to have the display sleep in 5 minutes and the computer in 15 on both battery and when plugged in, but it never does either. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that power nap is on even when using battery. So now the Mac is constantly on when downloading something and instead of downloading a one gigabyte file that would take up 15% of my battery, it takes up 60% since it never sleeps. When I tried downloading something and then manually putting the computer to sleep, the download was interrupted and it said Wi-Fi connection lost so I have to start the download over again.
That's basically all three problems in one situation. I even put the brightness all the way on low so the screen is black when downloading, but it still uses up much more battery than before. Can someone help find a solution?

Did you try turning off power nap?

  • Battery Life Degrading after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

    Hi Community Members,
Just after purchasing the Mid 2012 Macbook Air 13", the battery life was good 7+hours for usual use, including browsing, emails, vpn access etc. After upgrading to ML on 26th July 2012, the battery life depleted down to barely 3.5 hrs now, very disappointed with this experience barely after a few weeks of this new portable. Tried some workarounds for like the SMC reset, uninstalling Flash etc but no success. Don't have power nap enabled which a lot of people feel is the reason for the battery draining out. More concerning is that the FCC ( Full Charge Capacity) has dropped to 96% ( 6431 mAh) from its original 6700 mAh with the Power Cycle count as 24. Spoke to Apple Care today and has been advised to do a Battery Calibration and then get the battery checked up at an Authorised Service Centre. Apple claims it has nothing to do with the Mountain Lion upgrade. Will come back with more updates tomorrow.
Any workarounds or success stories with others ?? Very unhappy and disappointed with my new Mac !!!
    Cheers
    Som

  • "service battery" after upgrading to Mountain Lion

I tried restarting the SMC of my laptop and it didnt work. prior to updating to Mountain Lion, my battery life was still okay. but after updating, it drains fast and it says that I need to have my battery replaced. "service battery" How did that happen overnight?? and is there any way for me to fix this problem??

Today it happened to me too. Service battery notice. Current charge 0% (*huh*, how can it still be running...)
This is already my third battery in my early 2008 MacBook Pro. I have the feeling that:
    1. OS X upgrades kill my batteries: I had to replace the battery after upgrading from 10.5 to 10.6 and now from
        10.7 to 10.8.
    2. The MacBook Pro early 2008 is a very bad series:
         - Display "clamshell" has been replaced due to broken LED issue (only half the LED's lighting up after sleep)
        - Logic board had been replaced (bad NVIDIA GPU)
-- Both these issues have been solved under Applecare, luckily.
         - Battery has been replaced 3 (THREE!) times in 3 years. The average lifespan of a battery is slightly less
          than ONE year.
For me - personaly - these issues are really the limit. After being a loyal Apple user for more than 6 years I feel quite disappointed.
I will contact a European Apple "Premium" Reseller this week to see what they are prepared to do.
Since I live in the South of the Netherlands I would have to travel about 180 km to the nearest real Apple Store (Amsterdam). The warranty has long expired, so perhaps now is the time to stop wasting money on repairs and buy a cheap € 400 laptop on linux instead of another € 139 battery...
I really, really hope that the Service Battery issue is a (bad) joke and an update of OS X will solve the issue.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion today, my battery only lasts less than 1:30 and the fans seem to run constantly. Help?

I have a late 2011 13" MBP with a 2.8 GHz i7 processor and 4GB of RAM. With OSX 10.7, my battery could last over 4:30; however, now I see the battery drop a percentage point about every minute (currently at 81% and it says 1:16 remaining). I have a number of programs open (Chrome, Mail, iTunes, Twitter, Skype), but these are the same programs I almost always had running with Lion and I never had this problem. Something else new is that the fan seems to constantly be running and only turns off if I put the computer to sleep.
Here are screenshots of my activity monitor: http://imgur.com/a/shehM
    Any advice?
My battery has decreased to 70% (1:07 remaining) by the time I've finished writing this...

It looks like Skype is basically running two CPU cores at nearly full throttle (well, 1.57 cores).  That's bound to drain the battery pretty quickly.  If you were not doing a high resolution video chat in Skype when you took that screen shot, then something is very wrong with it.  Check and see if there's a newer version of Skype available that fixes the problem.

A brief search. Or even glancing at the "more like this" list to the right will show that this is a known problem and there is no current solution. Workaround includ saving to the desktop and importing from there or opening in Quick Look and adding to iPhoto from there

  • Is anyone having problems with the battery drains quickly and the iphone4 heats up in use and in charging after upgrading to 5.1.1?

Is anyone having problems with the battery drains quickly and the iphone4 heats up in use and in charging after upgrading to 5.1.1?

I have had the same problem but I seem to be getting somewhere to fixing it!!! My battery was going down at 20% an an hour now its 10% with constant use and 5 in standby !!! So improvement all round
First I did a restore then I drained the battery i started to charge it and when it came on I turned the phone off completely and let it charge to 100% I then left it for a couple of hours on charge at 100. I saw no improvement after 1st drain so I repeated the drain battery and charge steps again with the phone turned off when charging and have seen a very big improvement. I am going to do it again tonight and hopefully problem solved!!!!
The next issue is iMessage as that's playing up and wifi drop out
    Good luck

  • Hot battery and short battery life after download of Mountain Lion.

Hot battery and short battery life after download of Mountain Lion.  Any suggestions?

    As in, shortly after install?
Note after you install Mountain Lion it's likely that the Spotlight index will be rebuilt.  This will take some time and the machine will run hot.  After this completes, which could take 1-2 hours, things should return more to normal.
If they don't, I suggest running Activity Monitor and seeing if you can trace what is eating up CPU cycles.
