My battery won't charge, but the computer and power adapter show all signs it should be.  Help?

Last night, when both my power adapter and laptop were showing signs that I was fully charged, my computer suddenly died.  I restarted my computer, and it said my battery was at 0%.  That night, I fiddled around until my power adapter said it was charging and then went to sleep.  This morning I come back, and my battery is at 0% still, but both charger and laptop show signs that it's charging (brighter screen, LED is orange, lightning on the battery icon).  Does anyone know what's going on?
I have a basic MacBook with the magnetic charger, and it's a few years old.

Hopefully some of this helps. Could be another issue behind the symptoms.
The Magsafe connector, or maybe a weak port on the MacBook?
Good luck & happy computing!

  • Battery won't charge but will run on power adapter

My macbook pro is less than 1 month old and it won't charge when plugged in but will run on the power adapter. The problem started a few days ago and I have tried many different outlets.

    Reset SMC.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If resetting SMC does not help, you have to take the MBP to the Apple store to have it checked.
    Best.

There is a hardware problem.  Whether it's worth it to you to have no working phone for 2 months until you can update vs paying for replacement/repair now is a question only you can answer.

  • Battery is fully charged but the camera says it is not

The battery is fully charged but the camera  low battery icon flashes as soon as it is turned on. I know the battery is good because when I place it into my other Mavica camera it shows a fully charged battery.  What can I do?

    Toni,
Based on the information, it seems that there is an issue with the Camera software. If the battery model that you’re using is the one suggested by the Camera, then you need to send the Camera for service.
You can initiate service request from the below page:

Numbers should be able to read Excel files without any problems.    If Numbers does not read the graphics properly then you can try Excel Online. https://office.live.com/start/Excel.aspx

  • Battery won't charge, but will run on the adapter power.

I've had my MBP for about a month now. The problem I've had for the past few days is that the computer will work completely fine when it's plugged in, however the battery won't charge. Once the adapter gets removed, I get the popup that tells me that I'm on reserve battery power. When I click on the battery icon at the top right of the screen, it tells me that the battery is not charging, but it also tells me that the power source is the power adapter.

You need to take it to an Apple store or AASP and have them run a diagnostic on your battery and power adapter. If either is bad they will replace them, and if it's not the battery or power adapter, then it's probably the logic board.

  • Hi! I'm just having a little trouble when it comes to battery charging of my iPhone 5 with its new iOS 7! It doesn't indicates that the battery is fully charge unlike the old version of iOS! They said it should be pulsating but it's not

Hi! I'm just having a little trouble when it comes to battery charging of my iPhone 5 with its new iOS 7! It doesn't indicates that the battery is fully charge unlike the old version of iOS! I already read some reviews and discussion about this. They said that the lightning bolt should pulsate when charging but it's not!

Thanks for the replies. It took a while not hearing anything so thought I was alone. I have done many of the suggestions already. The key here is that it occurs on both phones with apps, and phones still packaged in a box.
A Genius Bar supervisor also checked his Verizon data usage log and found the same 6 hour incremental use. Suprisingly, he did not express much intrigue over that. Maybe he did, but did not show it.
I think the 6 hour incremental usage is the main issue here. I spoke with Verizon (again) and they confirmed that all they do is log exactly when the phone connected to the tower and used data. The time it records is when the usage started. I also found out that the time recorded is GMT.
What is using data, unsolicited, every 6 hours?
    Why does it change?
Why does it only happen on the iPhone 5 series and not the 4?
Since no one from Apple seems to be chiming in on this, and I have not received the promised calls from Apple tech support that the Genius Bar staff said I was suppose to receive, it is starting to feel like something is being swept under the rug.
I woke up the other day with another thought ... What application would use such large amounts of data? Well ... music, video, sound and pictures of course. Well ... what would someone set automatically that is of any use to them? hmmm ... video, pictures, sound. Is the iPhone 5 succeptible to snooping? Can an app be buried in the IOS that automatically turns on video and sound recording, and send it somewhere ... every 6 hours? Chilling. I noted that the smallest data usage is during the night when nothing is going on, then it peaks during the day. The Genius Bar tech and I looked at each other when I drew this sine wave graph on the log print outs during an appointment ...

  • My ipad2 won't Charge but the charger works on an Iphone? It is also in Restore Mode?

My Ipad2 wont charge but the charger works on an iphone, the ipad is in restore mode and its telling me to connect it to itunes every few minutes. When I connect it to itunes it works for a minute or two but then turns itself back to the screen with low battery (saying it needs to be on charge). But then it says it need to be connected to itunes again! Help? How can I fix this?

If you connect by WiFi, put the charger in the iPad.
If you connect by cable, try an other USB port, and/or use another cable.

  • My podcasts won't download from the computer to my ipod touch all of a sudden!

All of a sudden my podcasts won't download from the computer to the ipod touch anymore.  It still downloads changes in music and apps, but it just seems to be podcasts.  Can anybody help me diagnose my problem?

If they are video podcasts, they now appear in the Video app after iOS 5.

  • Battery won't charge but computer will run off the cords energy

I have the cord plugged in and currently my computer is running off of the power from the wall, not battery power. So it is connecting but it won't charge the battery.
does anybody have any idea on why it isn't working and how i could fix it?

Hi jill not jillian (glad that is cleared up) and welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Three possibilities -
    1) The power manager is corrupted. [Reset your SMC|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964] and see if this fixes it.
    2) The battery is bad. If you have one, try with a different battery (assuming yours is one that can be user replaced) and see if that fixes it. If you don't have one, a nearby Apple retail store will have one they can test with. Be sure to [make an appointment|www.apple.com/retail] or you may spend a long time waiting to talk to a Mac Genius.
    3) The computer itself has a problem. If this is the case it will need to be repaired.
    Best of luck.

  • Battery won't charge in my computer, but does in another.

my battery won't take a charge in my computer, but does if i put it into my daughter's (same computer). the battery icon doesn't recognize the adaptor when that is plugged in, so i tired in the other computer and it seems to work. the adaptor's light doesn't come on either, but does if plugged in to my daughter's macbook.
i tried resetting the SMC as recommended in a different post, but nothing changed. any ideas?

Most likely the charging circuit is damaged and/or dysfunctional. Take it to an Apple store.

  • IPhone 5 battery won't charge, not the charger or fluff/lint

So progressively my iphone 5 has gotten worse and worse at charging. Initially it was a matter of getting the right angle and sometimes applying pressure. I have been through chargers and cleaned the port out to clear it of lint and fluff. Still nothing. Now my phone has run out of battery. I plugged it in and now it is constantly flashing up the "battery empty, plug in charger screen". So surely it is picking up that a charger is plugged in but not actually charging?!?! So frustrating especially as it is well out of warranty period, and I don't live in short distance to an apple store. Help please!!

At this point it sounds like it is time to take it to an Apple Store. At 6 weeks it is still covered by warranty and there shouldn't be any charge for the repair, unless there is some accidental damage you haven't mentioned.
    Good luck.

  • Macbook Pro battery is not charging but the battery meter is full

    Hi guys!
I have a 19 months macbook pro. I've tried using 2 different AC adapter but my mac's battery is still at 0% and the status says "Battery is not charging". I think my battery is dead but the LED battery indicator on my battery shows 5 lights, means its at full power.
I've tried to disconnect the AC cable and remove the battery, then press the power button for 10 sec but nothing change when i start my mac again...i also tried to reset my PRAM ( i think ) by holding a cmdopt+PR while rebooting but it didn't help to solve the problem too. I also have the battery update 1.2 installed on my mac and the results is still the same.
This is my battery info from system profiler. I hope someone can tell me what to do before I visit the Apple store.

    Hello,
I am having some strange battery behavior. I bought a FastMac TruePower Battery that is supposed to have extended capacity. Now when the battery dies, i plug in my MagSafe to charge it and it immediately says 'not charging', but then begins to charge. It either continues to charge and gets stuck at 80% or so and reads "calculating" in the menu bar, or just jumps between 'charging' and 'not charging'. The symptoms are very strange, and FastMac already sent this battery back saying it passes all of their tests. I do not want to send it back again because they charged me to send it back to myself even though it still does not work as advertised. I have my original Macbook Pro Apple battery which still charges fine, so i assume it is a problem with the battery based on a simple process of elimination.

  • My iphone battery won't charge, but says it's charging.

I got up this morning to unplug my phone and saw that it was only 47% charged throughout the night. I made sure everything was plugged in and it was because the phone said it was charging. I took to work to see if it would charge there and I actually lost some power even when it was still plugged in. Is my battery dead? Could it be the cable? I've only had the phone for a over a year with no water damage or anything.

Let me know if this helps at all
