My BB Curve 8520 will power down when it has 3 out of 5 "bars" of battery power left. I have replaced the battery twice. It is out of warranty. The software update did not help the problem. Do I just need a new phone?

I can imagine the frustration the battery life is causing! To confirm are you using the Blackberry Curve 8530? Have you attempted restoring the operating system through the Blackberry Desktop Manager? This will help clear corruptions that may be present on the phone. Welcome to the forum.
As mentioned earlier in the thread replace your battery especially if its 2 years old, its max life span has been reached.
The fact that's its working fine wth the charger plugged in I'm pretty sure your battery can't hold enough juice or problems delivering proper strong flow of power when intensive tasks are being performed.

Try to reset your device. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. WHen you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and try again.
You can also try a different USB port and different cable.

Try reset all settings.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings. It won't delete any data.

I don't think it will be as the 8520 does not have the hardware to run it.

Hello, I am desperately hoping someone can assist me with the problem I am experiencing with my Curve 8520.
I have spent ages online looking at other forums and trying to see if people have had the same issue as me and to see if anyone had worked out what the problem was and could resolve it. It appears as though I'm the only one having this exact issue!
Yesterday, my phone turned off, without me using the off button. It was sat beside me, untouched but when I went to check it, it had turned off. I believe this has happened before and was not an issue, so didn't panic. However, when I tried to turn on the device, it would not work.
Whenever I attempt to turn it on the red light shows for a while, before it attempts to switch on (loading bar screen shows). It looks as though it is about to work sometimes, but gets to the same point, which is probably about 5% complete and then goes dead again. It continues to try to switch itself on without my command.
I have tried charging it, leaving the battery out for a while and trying again etc etc but to no avail.
It's such a shame because I was looking to splash out on a new model (as this now, it quite a low grade of BB!) but after this issue I am not so sure. Reading forum posts from other users whilst attempting to find a remedy for my issue has only out more doubt in my mind about using BB again. I sincerely hope my faith can be restored.
Please let me know if I missed any information which would be helpful, I am not very 'techy' at all.

Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
Remove the battery
Wait 15 minutes
Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.

Curve 8520 will load to homepage but cannot access menu/apps/dialing anything :(

My Curve 8520 decided to die today
When i try and use it, I view the home page but I cannot access the menu when pressing the BB button, none of the apps work on the task bar, I cant dial numbers and none of the side buttons work. All i can do is move the tracker pad around. When the screen fades out to black, i cant get anything back it stays like that. The red led was flashing as well, but ive had a few messages come through as well now - but it was flashing before.
Ive tried a hard reboot (taking the battery out) a few times, ive even left the battery out for like 5 mins.
Ive tried connecting to bb desktop manager - but when the device is connected and the prompt for mass storage mode comes up it wont let me select yes or no - so desktop manager is never able to recognise it.
please help - the insurance people are rubbish n it could take like 5-6 weeks to get it sorted

My Blackberry Curve 8520 get authorisation failure when i call people

I bought a Blackberry Curve 8520 yesterday on pay as you go on virgin. I got my £10 top-up that came with it this morning and so i thought would call a friend. when i do it says 'authorisation failure'. This is quite annoying as i only bought it yesterday and yet i cant even call anyone, already!
Ive looked all over the internet and havent come to a clear solution, this sort of problem seems common with second-hand phones, not phone that are brought brand new. cheers for the help, would be welcome.

There is definitely something not correct, but it is at the voice-level functionality, not the data level. So, you need to talk to Virgin about it...it is their network, after all, through which your BB is unable to communicate.

PS -- you did not say clearly...but is your BB new or used? If new, did you also buy it from Virgin? If so, then they are 100% responsible for all of your services as well as 100% responsible for all of your formal support...which only bolsters the "ring them up" path to seek resolution.

Attempting to update blackberry curve 8520 to version 5.0 bundle 1168 timing out

I am attempting to update my blackberry curve 8520 to version 5.0 bundle 1168. However when it attempts to install it reaches module 386 of 399 it gives a message that an error has occured while downloading software and to check the internet connection. There is nothing wrong with my internet connection. I have tried unistalling all the software ie desktop manager and reinstalling and it makes no difference? help.

Try manually downloading and installing the OS to your computer first. You can do this by searching for your carrier's name in the following link and then simply download the OS installer fir your device. Once you've done that, install the file to your computer and you can then perform the upgrade.

Last week when I was connecting to the iTunes store, itunes shut down and windows told me I need to update my iTunes.
But my itunes is the latest version.
I can download apps form my iphone or ipad through my Internet server.
And the I clear DNS catch, the problem remain.
Then I check the setting of fire wall, the problem remain.
I try almost all the methods on apple support, even upgrade my graphics card driver.
Finally I delete all apple software, including quick time, itunes, bonjure...etc.
Fortunately, when setup itunes again, the problem reamin.
I can't solve this problem.
Any other methods can solve this problem?

Itunes will shuts down when i......

I bought and downloaded the whole cd from itunes "She wants Revenge" the album succesfully loaded onto my ipod nano and plays fine. I tries to burn it to a cd and itunes gives me an error and shuts down, this also happens if i try to play a song from that album from itunes now i have already deauthorized and reathorized my itunes account but it still wont work whats the problem? i ran a diagnostics of itunes and everything is good.

I am having the exact same experience you are with Itunes.... everything worked fine in Itunes version 10.5 but has gone south with something they have done to quicktime.... it has further messed up the connection to AppleTV as well.... another upgrade that seems to break everything..... just to test out my theory I opened quicktime separately and navigated to my movies directory and tried to play a movie directly .... it won't play.... or even appear as a playable file..... I think they have screwed around with this separation of quicktime and Itunes and basically broken everything.
Try to reinstall version 10.5 Itunes and 7.7.1 of quicktime, which seem to work correctly
