My BD-ROM drive won't recognize blank Verbatim BD-R

are there some brands that work?

Will the drive recognize CDs,DVDs and a commerical blu-ray disk?  What model PC and Blu-ray drive are you using?  What application program are you using?
Verbatim is known for quality so I am surprised that your blu-ray drive has issues with a blank media.

  • New hard drive won't recognize my iPhone

My hard drive crashed and my replacement hard drive won't recognize my iPhone. I can see all my content, but can't move or replace it. I was able to access content on my iTouch just fine and luckily synched my contacts back into my laptop, but no dice on the phone. Any ideas? BTW, my phone is a jailbroken original iPhone and I am not particularly proficient with this kind of stuff.

Does it boot into Open Firmware with CMDOption+of ?

  • G4 DVD drive won't recognize OS 10.4 upgrade disc

I have a a PowerMac G4 (AGP graphics) with a CPU type PowerPC G4 (2.9). I have a upgrade disc for OS 10.4. When I load it into my Quantam Fireballlp LM27.3 DVD drive, the drive won't recognize the disc. It attempts to read it and then ejects it. I have an external USB 2.0 DVD RW burner plugged into a USB 1.0 port, and it recognizes the disc, but I can't select it as the startup disc.
How do I get my system to read the upgrade disc so I can upgrade to OS 10.4? I've run a lens cleaner several times with no change.
    Thanks!

    Hi-
Well, if you know someone who has a Mac, or, if you have another machine, try the disc in another machine. There is a possibility that the disc itself is bad. I would consider this a strong possibility, since the drive recognizes other DVD's, and the Panther install disc.
If the disc tests good in another machine, then you will need to consider replacing the drive for a newer model. A new combo drive is only about $30-$40. The Pioneer DVR-112 would be a good consideration.

As for the "helpful" not working, there seems to be a problem within the system (known by the hosts, yet allowed to continue....). For now, I will gladly accept your thanks! (and, you're welcome!)

I have an external seagate 2tb drive with 3 partitions each with encrypted passwords. What must I do if one of the drives won't recognize it's password?

I would have to say the LCD display or possibly the inverter as the graphics adapter can properly output to an external monitor. This would be repaired under warranty.

  • My CD/DVD-rom drive won't read audio cd's

Since installing itunes on my laptop, the CD/DVD rom drive won't read audio cd's any more! However, it will read data CD's and dvds.
It didn't stop all at once...it started failing to read the odd random audio cd. Over time, gradually more and more CD's not recognised until no audio cd's readable at all!
When I say 'not recognised' I mean that if you look in the cd-rom file with a music disc inserted it thinks the drive is empty. The drive spins the disc a few times and then gives up. As only music cd's affected I suspect this is something to do with the itunes software. I've tried the various troubleshooting tips on itunes help but no joy....has anyone else had this problem / anyone know of a possible solution?
    Thanks
    Tiny

I had the same problem and I contacted a support team. They suggested that I upgrade my computer's power supply and I did. I had a 250W drive and now I have a 350W drive and it reads the CDs perfectly; except for one certain CD.

  • Burner won't recognize blank dvd

    Hi,
I have an old cd/dvd burner I bought from best buy years ago.  Tried burning a dvd and it wouldn't recognize blank dvd..it keeps saying "please insert dvd" even though there's one in the drive.  It burns CD just fine.  Plays DVD just fine.  I have tried using SEVERAL other burning programs and still doesnt work.  Please help.
Also uninstalled and reinstalled the drive several times...going crazy here.

Just to make sure, are you SURE it's a cd AND dvd burner? There are drives out there(I mention this since you said years ago) that were CD burners, with the DVD ROM feather.
If you like my post, or solution to your issue/question, go ahead and click on the little star by my name and/or accept the post as the Solution. It makes me happy.
I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

  • Super drive won't recognize audio CDs but will burn

Anything I can do about this?
When Audio CDs are inserted I will hear the drive attempting to load through several cycles then spit it out. Tried multiple CDs and CDs do work in CD player. ALL are original audio CDs not copies, cloned or burned. ALL are clean.
BLANK CDs will seat and allow me to burn through iTunes.
ALL DVDs load and play fine.
I feel like this suddenly happened but can't remember the last time I inserted an audio CD. I completely reformated (clean install) my HD last Thanksgiving, updated all drivers and programs I could find. (not sure about firmware for super drive but I think I found it was the lastest) I swear the CD ROM worked.
Got a new iPod at Christmas and it works fine. Itunes works fine!
Original Mac Mini and updated SuperDrive..... Info here:
I replaced original CD ROM drive with Super Drive about 4 years ago. There has never been a hardware issue. Clean install fixed random CD burn problem.
    Super Drive:
    PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K06:

    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.42 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz

    Ditto for like 2 years.
I have the exact! same problem. A lot of people confuse similar drive problems with ours when diagnosing.
Here's what I have found out, although after 2 years, I haven't been able to completely fix it.
Something related to my login is corrupt or missing. If I log in under my wife's login, and insert the audio cd, everything is perfect. Then if I switch back to my login, everything is perfect for again. However every cd must still be inserted under her login.
I really with this additional post will help somebody who has had this actually answer. It isn't a drive problem, or itunes problem.... and clearly a complete re install of osx isn't necessary.

  • Drive no longer recognizes blank DVD's since I've upgraded to Snow Leopard

Hello, I have an issue with my Super Drive (the UJ-875). Since I've upgraded to Snow Leopard, the drive no longer recognizes any blank media in it. I've tried -R, +R, -RW and +RW. No dice. The discs can be put in the drive and ejected without issue, it's just they are never displayed in Finder or Disk Utility. When I try to burn a mounted disc image, it simply sits there saying "To begin, insert a blank disc". I've tried using the exact same spindle of blank TDK -R's that I was using before I upgraded the O.S. I also tried some blank Sony media and it doesn't recognize it. It should be noted that the drive doesn't seem to have any issue with previously recorded discs. Those appear to read just fine, it's only blank media that looks like the issue. Any answers you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Below is the Disc Burning information that's displayed in About This Mac:

  • 1book 12" with dvd/cdRW won't recognize blank cds or dvds,

The model number is A1054, machine model powerbook 6.5. 12 inch G4 30 gig 1,2 GHZ 512 MB with DVD/CD-RW drive. This wil not recognize blank DVDs or CDs. It reads awhile and ther rejects them. The preferences are set up to ask what I want done to the disk. It will read and mount recorded CDs.
    I just got this computer,
    Jim

    Welcome to the discussions.
Go up to your Apple upper left and click it and when the box opens Choose System Preferences, and when that opens choose CD-DVD and when it opens, take your time and go through here and choose the options you want for CD and DVD's WHat do you want to happen for both Blank media as well as media with copy on them and what you want to open to read them,
Generally with DVD Movies you want your Player to open.
Blank DVD's you will want any combination of programs to open depending on what you want to do, from iDVD or Disk Utility to make copies.
The same steps must be done with CD's as well.
    Cheers Don

  • HELP! DVD Drive won't read blank discs

Recently, MAC Mini (Power PC) Matsushita UJ-845 Superdrive doesn't recognize blank DVD media (from same 100-pack spindle previously used with no problem). Drive spins, reads and then seems to go into a rhythmic oscillation. After a short time, I get this message:
    "The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = ILLEGAL REQUEST
    Sense Code = 0x64
    ILLEGAL MODE FOR THIS TRACK"
If I keep trying to get the blank disc read, I get another message:
    "Interface Error: -16434
    The connection is not stable"
Has anyone else experienced this? I've done forum searches on some of the key words and error codes above with no luck.
I get this error when trying to burn a VIDEO_TS file to DVD using Toast 7, but it really seems to be more of a hardware-related issue.
    Anyone got any ideas?

    xfm,
I too have the exact same error messages, but with a UJ-846 drive and Verbatim DVD-R 100-pack spindles.
My drive reads CD/DVDs OK, no problem, but gives problems when I put in a blank disc. I had this problem a few weeks ago with CDs as well, but then opened up the Mac mini and 'cleaned' the Superdrive with some compressed air, and that seem to have sorted the problem then.
Today though, for some reason NOTHING works, I even left the Mac mini 'naked' (without casing) while trying ten times and blowing air in between each time.
I have two batches of Verbatim DVD-R (100packs) bought in two different stores about a month or so apart, and one batch of CD-Rs that are yet another make. All of them with the same problem.
I think this is a hardware problems and it absolutely stinks that it only happens after the Apple warranty has expired. I've done about a 100+ disks on the Mac mini, which in my mind is hardly any at all, so it can't be 'worn out'.
Any ideas, or anyone with leverage at Apple that can kick some a*s
PS. I also have a MacBook Pro C2D with a busted spindle in the SuperDrive (UJ-857D), so me no like SuperDrives very much.

  • DVD drive does not recognize blank media

I have a Matshia DVD-RAM UJ-841S DVD drive, that will not recognize blank DVD media. This has been going on for a while now, so I don't know 'what has changed'. It will recognize/burn CD's, will play DVD's, but will not recognize blank DVD media. I have tried reinstalling the driver, tried different types of high quality media (Verbatim, Memorex etc). I have burned many DVD's in the past, this drive is (was) capable of doing it (despite what Microsofts FixIt programs says). I'm not terribly techy, so if it is a registry problem you'll have to explain it very carefully.
    Thanks,
    Rodney

  • My cd/dvd drive won't recognize my cd pavillion dv4

Every time I put a CD or DVD into my CD/DVD drive, it won't recognize it. It "thinks" for about a minute and then stops. Sometimes if I open and close it will work but not always. I have a Pavillion dv4 with windows 7 that I bought in November 2009 (but my entire hard drive was replaced in May 2011)

  • DVD RW drive can't recognize blank DVDs

I'm having some difficulties getting my PowerMac Tower DVD RW drive to recognize blank DVDs. I'm able to burn and read CDs with no problems, and I can read DVD movies as well. However, when I insert a blank DVD+R (Memorex DVD+R 8x 4.7GB), the drive spins on and off and after 30s or so, it spits the DVD out with no error. Any idea what the problem is?
System Profiler shows the following info:

    Firmware Revision: KAS7
    Interconnect: ATAPI
    Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
    Cache: 2048 KB

    Media: No

I agree that another media brand is in order. Memorex does not make quality media and this may be the problem.
TDK and Maxell make highly regarded media. Princo is labeled as "3rd class" by the DVD Media FAQ at digitalFAQ.com.
I use TDK almost exclusively and have yet to have a bad burn.

  • Superdrive won't recognize blank DVDs

This problem sounds similar to several I've seen here, but appears to be different, hence a new topic.
My PB has been in to Apple for repairs "several" times, and has multiple logic boards replaced and the DVD drive replaced at least 2x in the past 12 months.
I have the CD and DVD prefs both set to "ask". CD media immediately pops up the "You inserted a blank CD." dialog, so I know the drive is online and working. CDs with content load and run fine.
DVDs do not. Some DVDs burned on my 15" iMac read fine, while others get ejected or have read errors. Trying to burn off my nearly full internal disk to data DVDs, I've tried Disk Utility and Toast, and it doesn't matter. I get the same result. The program asks for a writable DVD; I insert a blank DVD; The drive churns for awhile; I hear a beep every so often while it is churning; The DVD is ejected without ever being seen by the Finder, Disk Utility or Toast.
I hadn't tried to burn a DVD since it last came from the shop, so I do not know if this specific drive ever worked for burning, but previous drives all worked fine. The fact that the DVDs never register anywhere I can see before getting ejected is just weird.
Is there some software config problem here, or should I just take the PB back to Apple and say, it doesn't work. Help. This is pretty frustrating.
It's not the DVD media, because it works fine in the iMac, and my other PB.
    PB Ti G4 1Ghz 10.4.7 512MB/ 15" iMac G4 800Mhz 10.3.9 256MB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Although, since when has a DVD that was rated for a higher speed NOT been able to be burned at a slower/lower speed?
Since always, if the data layer in the disc is sufficiently different from what the drive expects. In a high-speed drive, a disc with a high speed rating can be burned at any speed within the drive's range, often including very low speeds. But in a low-speed burner, high-speed media may not be usable at any speed, because its data layer is very different from what the drive was designed to work with. You may not be able to see the difference easily, but the drive does, and rejects the disc thinking it's defective.
Back before DVD drives and media were common, this problem arose all the time with people trying to read early CD-RW discs in the CD-ROM drives of older Macs: it couldn't be done. When the speed ratings of CD-R media skyrocketed to 48x and 52x, some CD-ROM drives couldn't read the high-speed CD-R media either, though that problem was less common.
When optical drives generally cost upwards of $200-250, it was hard to tell anyone that the simplest solution was to replace the outmoded drive with something newer and more capable. Now that you can buy a slot-loading high-speed dual-layer DVD burner with all the bells and whistles for under $100, it behooves anyone who can use those capabilities to go ahead and get one. As for me, I've never tried to burn a DVD in my UJ-815, and now that slow media are almost impossible to find, I probably never will. If I decide to burn more than one or two DVDs sometime, I'll replace my drive. You might save yourself some hassle by doing the same.
As for -RW media, I never bother with it: it's way overpriced and too often has problems. I've always had good luck with the cheapest CD-R discs on sale at Costco, Staples, etc. for about 15 cents apiece in large packages. I occasionally burn an archival disc using high-priced 200-year Delkin or MAM-A media, but for the most part, cheapies serve me fine.
