My Biggest Problem with Siri - Voice Dialing

My biggest complaint with Siri is that voice dialing requires an Internet connection. If I want to initiate a voice call to someone in my contact list why does Siri waste the time and bandwidth to access my contacts on my iPhone via the Internet? This makes no sense and is much slower than was the case with normal voice control.
My suggestion would be that when you say "call" Joe Smith Siri will first look in your contact list. Why would you have it any other way?
Am I missing something here or was this overlooked?

Siri also can't find contacts with non-typical but still common and phonetically simple spellings - Rebekah or Coffman. The regular voice commands don't have this problem. To Apple apologists who suggest that I go through my 800+ contacts and enter phonetic assistance, hey, get a life. I need stuff that just works, which is supposed to be the the Apple hallmark. My very first Palm Treo smartphone had more accurate voice dialing, and that has been true on all the Palm and Blackberry phones I had before getting a 4s.
There is a solution. Turn Siri off permanently. The non-SIRI voice dialing works better (though still not as good as my old phones). Then go to the app store and install Dragon Dictation and Dragon Go. Both are free as of this writing. Dragon Dictation is faster, easier to use, and more accurate than Siri. Dragon Go is slightly clunkier to use than Siri, but the results are equally good. Neither has the frequent Siri "not available" problem. You will have to live without the smarmy comebacks, though.

Problem with Siri since OS 8.2 update

Since update 8.2 I have problems with Siri dictating on the microphone. I can say a maximum of 5-10 words before it cuts out. Using siri on an older OS version on my iPad I don't have any problems. Can anybody help?

Do you have an active data connection (wifi or cellular)? Have you tried resetting the phone by pressing and holding the Home and power buttons until the apple appears (this is different than just turning it off and back on).

Still problems with Siri

I posted about problems with Siri last night. Someone deleted my post, not me. I am still having trouble with Siri today, 4 days now.

I have a problem with Siri. Often when I say "call [name of person in contacts] ... home" Siri says there is no home number for [name of person]. But there is!

I have a problem with Siri. Although my contacts are entered correctly including naming the contact's home phione number as "Home", Siri will often tell me there is no home number for that person. She then gives me a choice of using the contact's home or mobile number (whicgh appear correct on the screen) and when I choose "Home" Siri again tells me there is no home number for that name. Well, it seems waiting is not my strong suit..! I renamed a javascript file called recovery to sessionstore. This file was in the folder sessionstore-backups I had copied from mozilla 3 days ago, when my tabs were still in place. I replaced the sessionstore in mozilla's default folder with the renamed file and then started mozilla. And the tabs reappeared as they were 3 days ago!
So there goes the tab problem. But again when I started mozilla the window saying "a script has stopped responding" appeared, this time the script being: chrome//browser/contenttabbrowser.xml2542
If someone knows how to fix this and make firefox launch normally, please reply! Thank you

Seriously, what's the problem with Siri since the iOS 7 upgrade?

I don't know if it's just the fault of iOS 7 or not because I only have one Siri capable device and so I can't compare. But since upgrading my iPhone 5 to iOS 7, Siri has definitely gotten much much slower, and sometimes ends up with the "Sorry I can't take your request now" response, which I never saw in iOS 6.
I've heard other people complain too.
Is it an iOS 7 problem? Has Apple changed Siri since releasing iOS 7?
With all their money, why can't they add enough servers to handle the load?
I'm on high-speed wifi almost all the time, and the pauses, delays and non-responsiveness has gotten seriously annoying. I used to miss Siri when I went from my iPhone 5 to my iPad 2, and was thinking of upgrading to the next iPad because of Siri (for one thing). But as of late I would classify Siri as more annoying than useful.
Are other people also having problems with Siri?

I assume you are joking. Like why after a year would I suddenly start holding my iPhone 5 differently immediately after the iOS 7 upgrade?

I just bought NWZ-A17 and I found two BIGGEST problems with it.

Hi, all. I'm a new user here. I bought NWZ-A17 Walkman three days ago and I've encountered at least two biggest problems with it. First, the Walkman failed to differentiate the multiple discs of a same album. For instance, I've ripped a 2-disc album but when I transferred the songs into the device, track #1 from the first disc is played back to back with track #1 from the second disc instead of playing the whole single disc at one time. The subsequent tracks also played in the same manner. Second, the Walkman failed to load the artworks for some albums. I have no idea why. Both of the problems never present when I store and listen on my Xperia smartphone. I hope all the problems will be fixed on the next firmware update and I also hope the gapless playback will be improved across the all audio formats. Thank you for reading my rant.

I have been having problems with her too. I had to have my phone reset at the genius bar, and now Siri is totally unresponsive most of the time and unable to answer basic questions at best. She won't even dial a number that's programmed into my contacts. Just sits there quietly, her brain spinning around and around. Or she'll tell me she doesn't know who that party is. Would I like her to do a web search? For my husband? Sure, Siri. I used to love her, but now with my restage, she's basically worthless.
Incidentally, the reset was two weeks ago. She's only been her old, helpful, sarcastic self like three times since then.

Problems with Siri and Contacts (outside the US)

I have 3 major software problems (bugs) and i would like to report them in hopes that Apple would release a quick and prompt fix for these problems.
I think i speak for many when i say ever since the IOS 5 release users have noticed a major issues/problem with the format of their contacts and area/country codes.
Problem # 1.
I live in Kuwait, and all my contact details have a country code (GSM) prefix +965 followed by 8 numbers. With the last IOS 5 release whether you add or remove the prefix the contact's name is not displayed on the caller ID. I tried to save the contact as it shows on my Caller ID but the problem presisted. I even tried switching international assist on and off and that didn't work either. There's a huge forum for Apple customers outside the US facing problems with their contacts and caller ID ever since IOS 5 was lanuched.
Problem #2.
I have bought my Iphone 4S just few days ago, excited about Siri like many, i asked Siri to call George from my contacts, and Siri replies i'm sorry i can't call george, i tried all my contacts and all attempts failed, i tried adding the country prefix, and removing it and still Siri can't make calls from my own phone book (contacts). I do realize that Siri is in Beta, however, Siri did dial a US number perfectly from Kuwait, which tells me the problem is again related to where you are, and what country code format are you trying to call.
Problem # 3.
When setting up Imessage, Kuwait is not listed in the countries of choice, not sure why but it would good if all the countries are listed.

My phone is useless unless I want to call someone from my contacts. As soon as I touch the phone app I get an error stating my contacts have stopped. I cant get this fixed. I've called Samsung and Verizon and tried all their suggestions and nothing works. The final suggestion from Verizon is to purchase a new phone a full cost because I'm not due for an upgrade until next year and I have a small crack in the corner of the screen so I'm not eligible for the trade in that the offer. They were kind enough to add that I can spread out the cost over a 1year period after I stated that a new phone would cost over $500. That is my only option at this point. Very frustrating, since I have been a customer for over 10 years! I signed the petition that is out there. Hopefully an upgrade comes soon to fix this upgrade.

I just have a problem that when I ask Siri to schedule an appointment it directs me with a internet search with the words I just said. So it understnads my words but seems to think I want to search for them rather than schedule the appointment or play the music. I try Siri every couple of weeks and the response is so bad its worthless.

Morning all. I'm having trouble with Siri. Yesterday she simply stopped understanding me. Everything i say to her she just replies with "Sorry, Nath, Something's gone wrong. Can you try that again?" With every request. Full reception both on 3G and Wifi.

I was having exactly the same problem for two days after I upgraded to an iPhone five. None of the things suggested here helped.
Turning Siri off and on again in Settings fixed it.
(I had tried resetting my phone and the network settings but that did not fix it.)
