My black Box doesnt match the colour of the image it is sampled from when printed, suggestions?

I have a black image covering half a page whilst placed next to it is a black box which has been sampled from the colour of the image, the CYMK are the same yet when printed the box comes out a different shade of black. suggestions?

There are a couple of things that could be going on, and as an aside, trying to match a solid background to a sampled area in an image is seldom successfule as there is too much variability in the actual color in most images.
The first possible issue is that the sample you are taking could be inaccurate. Are you sampling in ID or in Photoshop? You mentioned CMYK, and I don't believe ID will sample the CMYK in a placed image, but uses the preview instead. If you are sampling in Photoshop you are either sampling an average of the pixels in a square area, or a single pixel, depending on the eyedropper settings, and either choice is likely not to be truly representative in many cases. A further complication is if you are sampling an image that has a differnt color profile from the working space in ID.
The other big possibility is that your printer uses what is know as a dual-layer  or CT-Line (for continuous Tone/Line art) processor and handles the raster image differently from the vector object created in ID. Theres a pretty good explanation of this in InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Eliminating YDB (Yucky Discolored Box) Syndrome

  • Can you change the colour of an 'image' bounding box?

    This concerns bounding boxes not 'strokes'.
    Is it possible to customise the default colour of a bounding box around an image?
    I know that the default 'rectangle image frame' matches the Layer colour (eg: Layer 1 - Light Blue, with an the image bounded by a brown box) which is easily changed by moving it to another layer (eg: Layer 2 - Red, which displays an image bounding box of Cyan). What defines the colour of the bounding box of an image that is placed inside the 'rectangle image frame' and can it be changed?
    I have no real necessity to change it, I just wondered if it was possible?
    Steve

    I'm not sure you understand the terminology.
    The bounding box is an imaginary rectangle that encloses the shape of an object or group of objects. For a simple graphics frame this is the same size and shape as the frame and is poisitioned on the frame edge (and it's what you see when you select the frame). The bounding box is used for calculating object positioning. When dispalyed, it takes on the color assigned to the layer.
    The frame edge is also fictitious. It's a screen display aid that can be tuned on or off to help you locate objects and also uses the color assigned to the layer. It corresponds to the path that describes the edge of the frame, so might not be rectangular (a bounding box is always rectangular).
    The stroke is an attribute assigned to the path describing the perimeter of a closed object or the path itself of an open path. Stokes can be assigned a weight, color, and stroke style such as dotted or striped.
    An image placed inside a frame has it's own bounding box, but not a frame edge or stroke. To see the image bounding box use the direct select tool to select the image inside the frame. If you crop an image so it is larger than the containing frame, or or enlarge the frame so the image does not completely fill it, you can see the differnce between the bounding boxes very easily. The color of the image bounding box is also tied to the layer color and is not editable by the user.

  • How do I get my printer to match the colours of the image as I see it on screen?

    How do I get my printer to match the colours of the image as I see it on screen? My HP Office Jet Pro L7680 printer tends to print my images with a bias towards red compared to the image I am seeing on screen with Lightroom 5 using a Mac with Retina 5 screen. Would appreciate any expertise on how to calibrate the printer to the screen

    You have two options. The first method costs nothing but is not as accurate and the second means buying hardware and investing some time. The fastest way to get things closer is to download the color profile from the printer manufactures site for the printer and paper combination you are using. Install it on you Mac and relaunch LR. This is best when the paper and printer are both from the same company; in your case, HP. If the paper is not made by HP, you can often find profiles for your paper/printer by going to the paper maker's web site and doing a search for the appropriate profile.
    The other alternative is to purchase a piece of hardware such as the ColorMonki which can be used to not only profile your monitor for color balance but also you printer/paper as well as your camera. When all of your devices agree on what color 118,118,118 means, you get the same color from capture to print but this is also an expensive option and there is a lot of time involved in building your own color profiles. The results however, are much more accurate.
    Once you have a color profile installed, the next step involves doing soft proofing. Once you have your image looking the way you want it to in LR, open it in the soft proof option. This will show you how your print will look using the color profile for the paper/printer you are using. During the process, you will be shown the print on your screen which may look off. Use the small triangle in the upper-right corner of the histogram to turn on the out-of-gamut warning. This will highlight any parts of your image which contain colors your printer can't handle. Use the rendering intent options to decide how you want these colors handled (relative or perceptual). Check them both and use the one you like best. You can also make additional changes at this point if required before you generate the JPG image. Make sure to save it as a max quality JPG using the sRGP profile. Once saved, you can send this image to your printer or even to a lab as the process is the same.The attached link should get you to a video showing how to use the ColorMunki hardware/software but, more importantly, shows you how to prepare an image for printing (in this case, for a lab) using soft proofing with the color profile created (or downloaded).--Great Color from Your Lab Prints – Every Time! on Vimeo

  • Setting the colour of the search box text on a public website

    I am using the search box snippet in the header of my public website.
    The background of the header is a dark blue.  The search box background is transparent so the default colour of the text (#444) on the dark blue background is barely visible.
    The text colour appears to be set by the following entry in corev15.css:
    input[type=password],
    input[type=text],
    input[type=file],
    select,
    textarea,
    .sp-peoplepicker-topLevel,
    .sp-peoplepicker-topLevelDisabled,
    .sp-peoplepicker-autoFillContainer,
    .ms-inputBox
    border:1px solid #B0B0B0;
    background-color:#fff;
    background-color:rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.85);
    color:#FFFFFF;
    I changed the colour from #444 to #FFFFFF.
    Now I want to create a new post in the Blog.  The new post's Title and Body fields use the same entry in corev15.css to set the colour of the text.  As the background of the new post is white the text is invisible!
    Using the F12 development function in IE, setting the colour of the Search box text with an inline function works, but when I add style="color:white" to the <input> of the Search box snippet it seems to be ignored.
    What am I doing wrong?  Is there another way around the problem (I don't want to change the background colour of the header nor the background of the post page and there is no colour that will display the text well enough against both backgrounds).
    Your help would be much appreciated.
    Thanking you in anticipation.
    Roger

    Thanks for your help, Patrick.
    Adding color: white !important; inline in the <input tag of the Search box snippet is still ignored, however.  When I look at the HTML and CSS with F12 in IE, the inline mark-up is not set.  I guess this something to do with how the Search Box
    snippet works?
    I've made some progress, though.  All the pages of the site (except the Blog NewPost page) use the corev15.css file. So I've set the colour here to white.  The css entry is:
    input[type=password],
    input[type=text],
    input[type=file],
    select,
    textarea,
    .sp-peoplepicker-topLevel,
    .sp-peoplepicker-topLevelDisabled,
    .sp-peoplepicker-autoFillContainer,
    .ms-inputBox
    border:1px solid #B0B0B0;
    background-color:#fff;
    background-color:rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.85);
    color:#FFFFFF;
    The Blog NewPost page uses \_catalog\theme\themed\CDD8DBA6/COREV15-51C31438.themedcss. I've changed the same CSS entry as follows:
    input[type=password],
    input[type=text],
    input[type=file],
    select,
    textarea,
    .sp-peoplepicker-topLevel,
    .sp-peoplepicker-topLevelDisabled,
    .sp-peoplepicker-autoFillContainer,
    .ms-inputBox
    border:1px solid #B0B0B0;
    background-color:#fff;
    background-color:rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.85);
    color:#444 !important;
    Now this page sets the colour to #444.  This means that the text in the Title and Body fields is visible but the text in the Search Box (with its dark blue background) is not.
    The Search Box on Blog NewPost is not vital but I'd like to fix it.  How can I do this?

  • How do you change the colour of the text box?

    A lot of the text box options seem different for DC. Is there a way to change the colour of the text box that you create/the borders etc.?
    In the past, you would just press Ctrl+E and a toolbar would pop up so that you could fiddle w/ the colour of the background etc. This seems to be gone.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi, Rahul,
    Thank you for replying back.
    Unfortunately, I have tried what you have suggested and the only thing that I get is a box that says "Properties: No current selection."
    Could you please possibly see what it is that I am doing wrong?
    I created the text box, wrote whatever inside, clicked somewhere outside the box and then clicked on the text box and I still only get "Properties: No current selection."
    Thank you,

  • Hey guys, I'm having trouble matching the colour of the image back ground (white) with the pre-set colour selection. is there a tool that can help me? thanks

    hey guys, I'm having trouble matching the colour of the image back ground (white) with the pre-set colour selection. is there a tool that can help me? thanks

    Your description of the problem is not quite clear so I made certain assumptions. I hope I am rigtht. I believe you have a color patch such as this:
    that you would like to place in an image area that has modeling in its white background. You do not want to lay in a flat color but rather to add a color and not lose the modeling or other background tone. The problem is, after making the selection, if you use Edit > Fill and set the Blending mode to Color, the white background remains white. The only colored background area may be an object's shadow or some similar area that is not pure white. (Image 2) It is an unsatisfactory result.
    If that is an accurate description of the problem, consider this:
    Image 1: The original image
    Image 2: Edit > Fill with the Blending mode set to Color. White remains white
    Image 3: Mode changed to Lab Color. Edit > Fill with the Blending Mode set to Color. Then return to RGB.
    (I would not normally use this green as a replacement color but since it is a Tiffany clock, I chose a light version of Tiffany's trademark color.)

  • How do you change the colour of the "colour boxes" in themes?

    Creating a book in Aperture the various "Themes" offer you different layouts.  When you are in a Theme - is there a way to change the colours of the background boxes (Not page colour) - I have searched everywhere to see how to do this and a simple thing like this seems like it is not possible.  Yes you could make a photo of the correct colour you want and drag it in but surely there is a simple way of changing the colour of these theme boxes.
    The theme I am using is Special Occasion and I want to darken the lightblue boxes behind the text.
    Would appreciate anyone out there who could advise on this please, thank you in advance.

    iMac 27 OS 10.6.8 (the best)

    Richard,
    there is no built-in option to change the color boxes. You can only change them by patching the Resorces in the Aperture application bundle, and that is risky.
    The color of the background boxes is set in the property list (for the Extra Large Book):
    /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/Resources/Book Themes/Special Occasion/ExtraLarge/Graphics/BlueRect.plist
    The current value is:
    backgroundColor {224, 241, 238, 100}
    To try what happens, when this value is changed, I edited it to {100, 200, 255, 100}
    You will not really want to patch your Aperture application bundle
    What you might try, would be to copy the "Special Occasion" subfolder of the Book Themes and to create your own custom theme from this and install it in your user library
    ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Book Themes/

  • How can I change the colour of the tools?

    I want to change the colour of the blue box next to the word diabc. The blue field is a tool with you can change the text. I know how to change one field at a time but I want to change the standard settigns, so that I don't have to change it field for field. I can't find it anywhere. I have found some information about changing the tool bars, but you can't change this tool I use. Only others.
    Who can help me? I have Adobe Acrobat 9 pro extended. I use the Dutch version, so some things may have a different name.
    I have included some pictures.
    If you have any questions, just ask.

    Thanks for your help so far.
    I hope you can see it now. It's a bit difficult to make a picture from my print screen, because I don't have the right programs at my computer at work.
    The menu is in Dutch. But I don't have so many options as you have. If I go to 'eigenschappen' (in English properties) I get this menu. In this menu you can change the colour, but Adobe doesnt' remember this, so you have to change it every time. And that's quite a lot of work if you want to do this. Because I have to review a document of 40 pages.

  • Change the colour of the outer line of a circle

    Hello everyone,
    I drew up a circle with no fill inside, to show where the location of my highway storm culvert will be.
    I changed the thickness of the outer line of my circle shape by creating a stroke effect at layer → blending options → stroke; then I changed the thickness of the line by right clicking in stroke at the layers panel and then choosing "scale effect."
    But the problem I have is that the outer line is gray, and I want it to be black.
    The outer line was originally red though so I changed my image → mode to grayscale, because I couldn't find a way to change the colour while keeping my image in RGB colour.  So I've managed to make the outer line gray by changing the image mode but I still can't change the colour of the outer line to black.
    I'm sure there must be other ways of changing the outer line colour without having to change the image mode, but I'm clueless.
    Here is my drawing:
    The text next to the circle says «Obra de desagüe». That's spanish for "drainage construction site."
    You see, I can't change the colour because I have no clue at where the "change colour option" is. I tried going to layer → layer properties, but in there there's only 7 colours to choose from. I chose a random colour, just to see what happens and what truly changed colour was the layer, within the layers panel; not the shape contained within the layer.
    So I'm lost here, any help please?
    Unfortunately I'm still not an expert in Photoshop just yet.
    Thank you for reading my post.

    Set shape layer opacity 100% Fill 0% to make fill transparent or add an empty layer make a circular selection stroke it black.

  • Is it possible to change the colour of the bars in a chart on the iPad?

    I'm using keynote for iOS and I'm trying to pick the bar colour for my charts. I understand that the default settings will change the colour for each new series but I have a few charts all with a single series and I would like to change the colours along the way. • Change the colour of the prompt and the value

    Hi,
    I have an Item MessageStyledText with some value on an OAF Page.
    By default the colour of the Prompt and the value of this Item are black.
    But i need to change the Colour to Blue.
    Fast response highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Approach 1:
    Custom Look and Feel - Create your CLAF and change CSS Style.
    Limitation - The main limitation of the Custom Look and Feel functionality is that you can only extend Simple LAF or Base LAF, which do not include all the functionality of the Browser LAF (BLAF) or SWAN.
    Approach 2:
    You can do it programmetically as follows:
    import oracle.cabo.style.CSSStyle;
    CSSStyle customUnCss = new CSSStyle();
    customUnCss.setProperty("text-transform","uppercase");
    customUnCss.setProperty("color", "#FF0000");
    OAMessageStyledTextBean sampleBean = (OAMessageStyledTextBean) webBean.findChildRecursive("<Id of your messageStyleText will come here>");
    if(sampleBean != null)
    sampleBean.setInlineStyle(customCss); //set custom css style
    You need to provide more details to get more appropriate solution/workaround.

  • If I have my iPhone 5 replaced at a Apple Store, can I have the colour of the device changed?

    My iPhone 5 is faulty as its battery is overheating. I was thinking about taking the phone to an Apple Store for a replacement. Will I get to choose the colour of the phone or will I recieve the same colour?

    It might help to think of the Apple Store Genius Bar in the same way that you would think of an auto mechanic's service bay.  Imagine that you have towed in a disabled car to have it fixed.  When the repair is done, the mechanic hands you the keys to a different model with a different engine and different option package.  Great deal right?  As I'm sure you can imagine, real life does not work this way.
    You will only drive out with the same model that you towed in.  If you want a different model, your solution is not in the service department, but on the sales floor.  The Apple store is no different.
