My Blackberry 8100 is a teapot!

Went to sync my Blackberry 8100 last night when I had popup saying there was an update for my Blackberry to V4.5. My total involvement with the process was to press the 'next' button.
I went to check on dinner and when I returned there was a message saying 'unable to reconnect to phone'. It seems to have cleared my phone of firmware and it now thinks it's a teapot!
I am on Telstra and spoke to them this morning. They said I need to send it to the 'factory' to be fixed.
Anyone know if I can reload the OS thru my PC or do I have to go through the ropes of dealing with Telstra!

Thanks BB but I have just finished setting up my phone after finding that I had to have the EXACT version of software from Telstra, who by the way have absolutely no idea what they are on about!
Also there is a litlle gotcha in that you have to untick the selection to back up the data on the phone or you can't connect (doh!).
Anyway all is working and I am now on 4.5, finding some differences that I don't think I will like.

  • No "Copy All to Address Book" option in SIM menu, BlackBerry 8100

Hi! I'm new here...so glad I found this forum! I have searched high and low but have not found a way to solve this problem. I've updated my device software, desktop manager, everything I can think of. I even went back into the Setup Wizard and selected the option to copy my SIM contacts to the Address Book. It looked like it copied them over, but when I went to check, nothing showed up.
I've gone into the Filter menu while in Address Book and nothing is checked, yet nothing shows up. I've gone into the Address Book, then SIM Phone Book from the menu, then hit the menu button again and the only options I have are:
    New
    Call Voicemail
    SMS Text Voicemail
    MMS Voicemail
    Add to Address Book
    Switch Application
    Close
No "Copy All" option anywhere to be found. This is a BlackBerry 8100. Help! Any suggestions! Filters are off, Setup Wizard's been tried and retried and nothing appears in the Address Book. HELP!
    ~Emily

Actually, just yesterday I figured out the problem. Once in the SIM address book I only had to scroll down past the "Voicemail" entry a couple entries down and then when I clicked the menu button the option to "Copy All to Address Book" appeared. All that time and all I had to do was scroll past the first entry. Sheesh!
Thank you for taking the time to reply with another option. I really appreciate it!

  • [Blackberry 8100] What are the best pic sizes for the blackberry?

Hi, I am the proud owner of a new blackberry 8100 and I have a few questions.
When I upload an image of 600x450 pixels to the media card, They display well, but when using the Zoom feature, the image starts to get blurry.  Now with a 600x450pixel image, I think the size would be large enough to get a closer zoom without the blurriness effect, but i'm a new user so I'm not really sure if I need a larger pixel image, or if I'm over-estimating the blackberry's Zoom feature and thinking it's a Zoom feature like Adobe's Photoshop. So what's the best recommendation for image sizes to be uploaded to the blackberry?
Also one more question regarding the desktop Manager. I have Version 4.6.0.12  and when trying to access the Media Manger, the "Start" button is faded out, so I cannot access it.  Why is this option not available when the blackberry is plugged in as a Mass Storage device?

The 8100 screen is 240x260 pixels.  Zooming in on the pic doesn't ever do the pic justice.
Are you sure that Media Manager is installed?  Some installs of Desktop Manager don't include Media Manager.  If it's indeed installed, does it work if you turn off mass storage mode?

  • Blackberry 8100/8110 Red Light Flashing

It seems this is a common problem.
I loaded my Pearl 8110 or 8100 with a sh**load of music, pics & videos.
when i went to access them, play them or slideshow them, I noticed it took forever...attempting to ease the memory load on my phone, i started deleting, from the phone itself (not while connected via USB), songs, pictures, folders thereof, etc.
    then it died.
and it wouldnt re-start. pulled the battery, tried to sync it, tried to update, tried everything...the computer WONT read the phone...the update keeps getting stuck on re-initailization and when i finally cancel, it says "UNABLE TO UPDATE USING A MULTI-STAGE UPLOAD" or something like that.  it's almost as if the usb port got fried...it momentarily connects when the red light flashes on, then disconnects when the red light flashes off.
i've read thru 3-4 pages of posts on this without any hope in sight.
is it futile?  or is there something i havent tried?

    This was my post:
This website has a good solution. It seems to work for most people. My 8100 wasn't nuked, but I needed to reinstall the OS. I followed his instructions and it worked.
I don't know if we're allowed to post links on this forum, but I'll try. If it doesn't allow the link, then Google "crackberry reload operating system nuked blackberry" and it should be the first link. Just look for the crackberry site.

  • Blackberry 8100 Pearl Keys/Buttons stopped working

    Hello!
I own a Blackberry 8100 (Pearl) and as you can tell by the subject, the keys stopped working!
I came home from school one day to check my phone, and find out the ONLY things that work on my phone is that the scroll ball can scroll up, down, and right.
I have taken the battery out, no good. I have taken the Media Card out, no good. I have even taken the SIM card out and this still does nothing.
I have kept my phone in very good condition, and this is the first time it has had any problem.
I'm sorry if this problem has already been brought up, but I could not find anything on it.
    Please advise!!

Hello and welcome to the forums!
It sounds like maybe you computer isn't able to power the device when the process is "Waiting for device initialization".  Are you using a laptop computer?  Here are a few articles about USB connection issues.

And here is a post on the forums about how to use the Web-Based software loader to load your device software - I have had some success using this when other methods fail.

  • Unable to upgrade blackberry 8100 OS

    Hello,
Please i would be glad if you can send to how to upgrade my blackberry 8100 OS to a better one.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Since you did not reveal the OS you are running, it's impossible to tell you if there is anything newer for you, nor even if that would be "better" (since "better" is a subjective term, and only you can judge that for yourself).
But, the simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?lid=us:bboftwareesktopSoftware&lpos=us:bboftware
    3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    4) If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
    5) Launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC. If, during the process, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
    Don't forget to backup.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • My Blackberry 8100 wont download mms!

My Blackberry 8100 won't download mms. It will receive it but won't come through completely. I thought it was a signal problem but even with full bars it won't work. I was wondering if there's any way to fix this and also I have the latest software. Ever since I updated it it will not download mms. Is there a way to solve the problem?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!!
After an update, it's always good to do this. I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
    Good luck!
