  • MAC OSX 10.4.11 I finally succumbed to the constant irritating messages telling me that I didn't have the latest version. My old version and all my bookmarks have been deleted my Mac says it doesn't support Firefox! How can I recuperate my old settings?

MAC OSX 10.4.11 I succumbed to the constant messages telling me that I didn't have the latest version, despite being happy with the one I had. My old version and all my bookmarks have been deleted and now my Mac says it doesn't support Firefox!!!!! How can I recuperate my old settings? in English

Firefox 4 versions and later '''do not run on a PowerPC Mac''' (like yours) and require '''at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac'''.
The latest supported version for your os is '''3.6.27''' , you can download it from:
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    1. Download a 3.6.27 copy of the Firefox from the above link
    2. Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install.
    3. Install the new version that you have downloaded(3.6.27)
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so probably you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data, if you don't already ''totally'' uninstall firefox(user data and settings like bookmarks, extensions, etc. located here: ~Library/Application Support/Firefox so you must uninstall it separately, to totally uninstall firefox).

  • My pulldown menus and bookmarks have disappeared. How do I get them back?

Today, without doing anything to the browser, Firefox's pulldown menus and my bookmarks have all disappeared and I can't figure out how to get them back. I still have the icons for the basic tools, like the home page, but all the regular pulldowns, which I use frequently, are gone. Any ideas?
I have already downloaded the newest version of Firefox to see if this would work and it did not. Anybody?

If ALL your menus have disappeared, press F11 (you may have to hit the Fn key simultaneously). If only one or two of the menu bars have disappeared, hit F10 (again, Fn key may also be needed, depending on your settings). This will bring the menu bars back temporarily--until you click on something else on the screen. While they are showing, hit View/Toolbars and check whichever menu bars you wish to appear. Unless you have a deeper issue, this should fix the problem.

  • My bookmarks have disappeared and I can't add new bookmarks.

All my bookmarks have disappeared, including the defaults on the toolbar of most visited, etc. I can't add new bookmarks either. I have tried all the Help Topics on lost bookmarks. I tried restoring bookmark backups, but the backup from the date I lost bookmarks says "unable to process backup file." All the later dates will load, but they have no bookmarks saved in them. All of the other Help Topic attempts went fine but did not solve the problem.

What I would say is that if you have any bookmarks at all at present that you make a manual backup of them, and then continue to make manual backups as any recovery efforts proceed.
    * see [[Backing up and restoring bookmarks]]
There is a possibility that you had corrupt files, and may then have inadvertently overwritten any files that may have contained bookmarks. It is a good idea to make manual backups, for cases where the auto backups do not. work as expected.
If you have already followed the instructions carefully about [[lost bookmarks]] and without resolving the situation, there may not be much you can do about your personal bookmarks. If they are important and you are willing to try there may be a possibility using file recovery software, &/or sqlite editors that something could be salvaged, but not something I can advise on, I am not currently a Mac user.
The default bookmarks should be fairly easy to restore. You can probably also start the bookmarks working again. Trying the simplest options first:
    # work from [safe mode]
#* at this stage when you see the first dialogue window with options do not make changes, press the continue button
    # use the customise / customize option from the toolbars and '''reset defaults'''
#* Mac may differ from my Windows XP, I can right click bookmarks, or use the tools menu see [[How do I customize the toolbars?]]
    # if that has failed to resolve the problem go back to safe mode as in step 1 but this time use reset toolbars and controls.
By now you should have the default bookmarks back and maybe the bookmarks work and will save new bookmarks, try it whilst still in safe mode, before going back to try in ordinary mode. If it works in safe mode but not in ordinary mode you probably have some add-on managing to cause problems
If you still have problems and bookmarks will not save see [[bookmarks not saved]] that probably indicates corrupt places.sqlite &/or localstore.rdf the linked article explains how to find and delete them.

  • Bookmarks have disappeared, and unable to add new bookmarks

My bookmarks have all disappeared, and Firefox won't allow me to add new bookmarks either. I recently updated from 3.6.9 to 3.6.10, but the problem only showed up a day later. If I try to restore, it just says, "Firefox unable to process the backup file."
I've tried all the suggestions on the help site, and none of those have worked (I don't have the add-on that causes bookmarks to disappear, I haven't updated from Firefox 3.5 or less, and I don't think Firefox has created a new profile).
Also: when I start up Firefox, it says, underneath the toolbar, "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem." However, I don't have any security software installed. I'm running a Mac.

Have you tried deleting the places.sqlite file and letting Firefox re-create it? For details see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite

  • All of my bookmarks have disappeared! Tried all the troubleshooting guides I can find, still nothing. Help!

This evening when I opened firefox, all the tabs from my previous session were there, but all of my bookmarks and history had disappeared. I received an error message, and tried all of the troubleshooting advice on this age:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional
I then tried resetting firefox, and so now all my tabs and theme are gone, but still my bookmarks have not reappeared. I have tried manually creating a new profile, and copying the old files, but that doesn't work either.
My firefox is technically out of date because I have an old computer, and I know this might be part of the problem. But I really just want my bookmarks back!
    Thanks for your help.

Did you previously try to delete all places.* (sqlite) files in the Firefox profile folder?

  • All my bookmarks have suddenly disappeared. How do I get them back? I didn't do anything to erase them.

All my bookmarks have suddenly disappeared. How do I get them back? I didn't do anything to erase them.

I've tried importing and restoring from bookmarks.html. The closest I get is having the XBOX folder in the dropdown, then the list of saved XBOX b-marks with nothing in them to actually go to.
I looked at the places.sqlite file the other day and it said 0kb, now it has @11,000. Must be from recent activity.
Anyway someone can control my pc and try to resolve this? If not, I guess these bookmarks weren't that important so oh well.
I'm just afraid to try to organize the rest....

  • Bookmarks have disappeared

When I opened Safari this morning all my bookmarks had disappeared. The only ones showing were the "classic" ones that are pre-entered by Apple (Apple, yahoo, google maps... etc).
I did a search for bookmarks.plist which gave nothing! I have however now located the file where it should be (I think), in library - safari.
Any idea where my bookmarks have gone??? And how I can get the back?
    History is still showing.
Also when a do a search simply on "bookmarks" I get a file in the user library (-caches - metadata - safari - bookmarks) which contains a list of hundreds of this :
    00A2B00C-0F3D-41C5-82BC-0041930AB4C3.webbookmark
    0A7E599F-67D8-4AE8-B3EB-D4B9D84DA68A.webbookmark
    0A13F04B-5AAE-489D-B536-277A8A9E4B1A.webbookmark
... all dated july 24 at the same time (19:37)
Is that normal? Can that explain anything? Should I delete them?
A lot of strange things have been happening lately with my computer (photos disappearing from iphoto, then showing up black when clicked upon, etc, etc - even after I made a new library with none of the old photos) so I've run all the maintenance programs necessary over the past days and also done a permissions run (btw the same permissions "repaired" keep showing up everytime a do this).
Can anyone give me a hint of what is happening and what I should do? I'm spending too many hours on trying to get my computer to run normally and trying to find lost data. I've been on Macs for 20 yrs + and never experienced so much trouble in so little time

Can anyone give me a hint of what is happening and what I should do?
How much free space is left on your hard drive? If you don't have at least 15% of your total drive capacity free at all times, things can spontaneously disappear, including email. If you don't have that much now, do some housecleaning and get rid of things you don't need or archive them somewhere else.
Can that explain anything? Should I delete them?
You can delete the ~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari items; those are just files that Mac OS X creates when you access a web page. It has nothing to do with the apparant disappearance of your bookmarks.

Thanks to the-edmeister and cor-el, for speed of response. I had not inadvertently moved the Bookmarks-Toolbar : I was confronted with the situation right after Firefox 9 had installed and unfolded in front of me. At first, the toolbar area looked reassuringly familiar, but when I started normal work, I discovered the lack of tabs and the only reference I could see to TABS was a tiny button inviting me to group tabs (which was unhelpful to say the least, filling up the screen with tiny unreadable windows). Sure, there were tabs forming, but they were invisible, unless I used the group button. Eventually, I was brave enough to use "reset toolbars" and the tabs came back in the way I want them, but it was a traumatic 2-3 hours out of my life. I kept on "adding a new toolbar" to see if I could make use of it; I kept giving them names, but it is impossible to see where the new tool bar is! (the toolbars don't have a little bit to grab at one end). In my opinion, Firefox should not have allowed the Tab Bar and the Bookmarks Toolbar to become caught up with each other - they have completely different functions. I don't think I would like to play around with "Make a new profile"! I was so desperate that I have already downloaded version 3.6 again, ready to install, for if I was unable to resolve the version 9 problems above.

  • All of my safari bookmarks have disappeared from all of my apple devices and I did not delete or move them

My safari bookmarks have disappeared from all of my apple devices and I have not deleted or moved them. Any ideas on how I can recover them?

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Safari
    Quit Safari.
    Select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window should open. Restore the file named "Bookmarks.plist" in that folder from a backup that predates the unwanted changes.

  • My bookmarks have vanished and I can't add them again

I went to use Safari and my bookmarks have vanished. I'm not sure exactly when but they have gone and I'm left with Apple, google, bing, yahoo and the iPad user guide. I can't seem to add any bookmarks now either. Not sure why this has happened. Any one have any idea how to fix this?

    Try a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo.

I found this on another forum.  I re-booted my iPhone and they all came back.  Very weird.  I just used them earlier today.
