My bookmarks mysteriously change folder names and positions in the tree

Sometimes when I go to add a folder, it gets repeated in different places, or overwrites an existing bookmark folder and mysteriously changes its location. It is very frustrating to try and categorize bookmarks when there is some gremlin or evil elf that confuses things. Category folders get renamed yet have totally unrelated links within it. Why can't bookmarks work like with some semblance of dependability like Windows Explorer does? What the hell is going on with bookmarks?!??

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Mac OS X disallow same folder name and filename under the same directory

I noticed Mac doesn't allow me to create the same filename and folder name under the same directory.
Seems like this constraint is unique only to Mac since I can do it in Unix and Windows.
Why is this so?

In Windows, there's probably a normally hidden extension being added to the file and/or the folder.
In Unix, I'm NOT able to create both file "foo" and folder "foo". What version of Unix are you using that allows this? (Mac OS X is built on top of Unix.)
One workaround would be to give the file a reasonable extension; foo.txt or foo.doc or foo.jpeg or whatever.

Finder is automatically changing folder names... say I have two folders side by side titled:
Financial
Miscellaneous
Sometimes, and for no apparent reason, the "financial" folder will, when I click on it, change to "miscellaneous" and will show the exact same files no matter which one of the two I click on. I know for a fact that each folder holds two entirely different sets of documents...
What is going on here? How do I stop it from doing this?

We are experiencing this issue on both ppc and intel machines and it appears to be isolated to the Finder as the terminal reports properly. The commonality is network shares, it does not seem to matter if they are nfs automounted from solaris, smb mounted from a linux box, etc etc, nor does it matter if an admin user manually mounts these shares, the issue persists. I, like a previous poster on this subject was skeptical given the symptoms but kept an open mind and then witnessed this anomaly for myself. We can now re-create it at will. I have narrowed it down to the 10.4.9 update and it continues through 10.4.10, in my testing, the issue does not exist in 10.4.8. The Finder version changes from 10.4.6 in OSX version 10.4.8 to Finder version 10.4.7 in OSX version 10.4.9, the Finder versions do not coincide with OS versions. Swapping in the older Finder did not solve the issue so there are other culprits involved. It may not even be the Finder at issue, the issue may reside in the way OSX mounts shares and simply manifests in the Finder. Odd behavior to say the least, one good thing is that while the data appears to have gone away, it's actually safe and sound and a reboot/logout-login resolves the issue. Deleting .DS_Store, force re-launching the Finder does not seem to help nor does deleting caches, preferences, etc, the only solution I have found is to revert to 10.4.8.

Setup 2 accounts, changed their names and now I have 4!!

I set up two accounts in Leopard (Call them X & Y); one a user account and the other an Administrator. I changed their names to Admin and User for convieniance but recently could not log in to either. When I loaded up the change password program on the install disk it tells me that i have 4 accounts: the original 2 (x & y) PLUS another two with the names Admin and User!
When I logged in as Root I can see that X & Y have all my data and my renamed accounts are empty. Strangely further, my login page ONLY displays the renamed accounts. So it looks like I login to say User, with user p/w and endup being taken to the old "Y" account.
As well, in the account list on the password change program i can see an aditional account called "iphonemux". I presume this is something to do with my ipad and itunes?
Hows has this happened with the accounts? Does anybody have any suggestion?

Unfortunately, it's not that easy to change short names. Try using the steps from this support article
attempt to rename your Home directory?
1. In the Finder, go to the /Users folder.
2. Locate the new home directory, which bears the users' short name.
3 .Add "_new" to the new home directory's name.
4. Rename the old home directory to the user's correct short name.
5. Log out and back in with the affected user account.

Hi - you have will have to change the device passwords on all the base stations and then don't give them to anyone except the administrators and tell them not to save them on their computers that use the older versions of the Airport Utility - for the newer versions like the mobile apps, as soon as you enter the pasword it is saved and is visible in the advanced pane along with the network password - so if anyone gets a hold of your iPad or iPhone, they can edit the whole network - I have this same issue with my networks in the office and it is inconvenient but doable - I hope this helps

Sorry if this posted twice I am NEW. I thought I could just go back to what I typed and add to it. Mom had a computer it died they are putting in the old drive on the new computer as a slave. To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, and your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. Thanks for your attention for my humble problem.
I have performed Meeting Place Express configuration through the “net” command.
But now unfortunately I can't connect to meeting place through web browser. I just get blank page.
Though I can reach the server with help of ssh. I think my DNS works properly because I can resolve the ip address of cumpxvoice .uclab.com and cumpxweb. uclab.com with help of dig command.
Have you any idea?

How to change DB name and SID in RAC environment?

I have 2 node RAC on Red Hat Linux, EL 4, upd. 4. It's using ASM
and it is working great. However, after 2 years of faithful service
I was asked to change DB name and SID. In non-RAC environment, that is
easy. Rename a few files, change init.ora and re-create control file.
I've done that many times. With 10g RAC, however, situation is different. There is also RAC registry which has the database under the certain name and, I believe, it also has SID registered. Can you, please, point me to a document describing how to do that? It's a production DB and I can't test it anywhere.

Relinking changed folder name

I am in need of a script that will, when prompted to relink broken links, update the path of a changed folder name.
So no matter where the "old file name (X)" is in the link path, it will be updated to "New folder name (Y)"
Also I now very little about scripts so if anyone knows a simplified website that explains how to utilize them that would also be super helpful.

I'm not really sure but I think yes. Blocking a contact will only prevent them from contacting you or sending you contact request. The visibility of your account information depends on how you set it, if you had them visible to public or to your contacts only.
