My Bookmarks toolbar is vacant.

I haven't lost the bookmarks. They just aren't populating the Bookmarks Toolbar.

  • I had icons for all bookmarks in my other browser, so how do I get them all to appear in the Mozilla bookmark toolbar alongside the name?

    I like the icons alongside the bookmark name. It appears that when the bookmark connects, some of the icons get automatically imported - e.g. Google, while others do not, e.g. Southwest Airlines. All of my bookmarks had icons in IE, so I assumed Mozilla would pick them up also. Is this a problem with the bookmarked website exporting the icon to Mozilla, or Mozilla polling the website to obtain the icon to display on the toolbar?

    No change in my bookmark toolbar icons, using the add-on above. Again, most of my bookmarks in Firefox have the icon, but others, e.g. Southwest Airlines, Comerica Bank (i.e. large companies that I'd expect Firefox to grab the icons). Clearly IE does something different than firefox to import the icon, otherwise they'd be the same across theboard.

  • Application shortcut for bookmarks toolbar not working on firefox for mac

    OS X allows users to assign shortcut keys to arbitrary menu items. I'm trying to add an application shortcut to firefox to show/hide the bookmarks toolbar (in my case, I'd like to use cmd-ctrl-L, but I've tried others too), however the shortcut key doesn't work. I can see the menu item flash as if the OS is trying to activate it, but the bookmarks toolbar doesn't toggle. Manually clicking the menu item does work.
    Any ideas? Is this a known bug? Am I missing something obvious?

    Nope. Haven't solved it, and I'm convinced I can't from this end. The only thing helping me is the extension I mentioned above, but that fix is very specific to showing/hiding the bookmark bar.

  • Under Bookmarks in the Menu Bar, I can access my Bookmarks Toolbar, but I can't get it to appear on screen as a toolbar.

    I think I've put the necessary details in my question. When I click on Bookmarks, I can access the ones under Bookmarks Toolbar, but I want to see them below the Menu and Navigation bars.

    This would show Bookmarks Toolbar checked, but the items were not appearing on the screen below the menu and navigation bars.

  • Bookmark Toolbar entries not showing up in blank space allocated for them under Navigation Toolbar.

    Using Firefox 3.6.13 and 4.0b8. Both are not showing up my Bookmark Toolbar entries. The item does exist. I've used Firefox for years and that toolbar has always showed up. Confirmed that it still exists and was not inadvertently trashed by viewing item and listing when opting to Manage Bookmarks. The item is checked off for display in the menu drop-down (View-Toolbars-Bookmark Toolbar), the space where it would normally display my entries shows up directly under the Navigation Toolbar, but it is blank with no entries displayed.

    In the View menu select Toolbars, and then Customize to open the customize toolbar dialog. With the customize toolbar dialog displayed, there should be an icon with the label "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" on the bookmarks toolbar. If it is not there, drag and drop the icon called Bookmarks from the customize toolbar dialog onto the bookmarks toolbar. There will be 2 icons called Bookmarks, the one you want will have an icon that looks like a sheet of paper (it does on Windows, I believe it is the same on the Mac).

  • Move tabs to under Bookmarks toolbar

    I want to move the Tabs from the top of the screen (they are just underneath the Menu items) to underneath the (cutomised) Bookmarks toolbar - where they used to be.
    How can i do this?

    See:
    *Tabs On Bottom: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/tabs-on-bottom/
    *Classic Theme Restorer: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/
    If you do not want to use an extension then you can move the Tab bar to the lower position with code in userChrome.css as basically you only need to give the Tab bar a higher -moz-box-ordinal-group value (most toolbars have a default -moz-box-ordinal-group:1 to show them in DOM order).

  • I have two sets of bookmarks, one under "Bookmarks Toolbar" and one under "Bookmarjs Menu," and they are not totally similar. What's going on?

    I use Bookmarks toolbar. When I want to save a site, the browser asks which folder to place it in; however I have two somewhat different sets of bookmarks that Firefox stores, and I'm never sure which set is the one being saved to. I have only one profile, checked that. Firefox 4.0 is an upgrade from 3.6.16.

    * The Bookmarks Toolbar folder stores the bookmarks that you see on the (View > Toolbars >) Bookmarks Toolbar.
    * The Bookmarks Menu folder stores bookmarks that you see in the Bookmarks menu and create via "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" or "Bookmark This Link" in the right click context menu.
    * The Unsorted Bookmarks folder stores that bookmarks that are created by clicking the star at the right end of the location bar.
    Clicking the star in the location bar will bookmark the page in the "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder and the star turns yellow (blue on Mac) to show that.<br />
    Bookmarks > "Bookmark This Page" (Ctrl+D or use Alt+B) will bookmark the page in the Bookmarks Menu folder (you need to confirm that).

  • How do I get my bookmark toolbar back on the top instead of in a drop down box under bookmarks.

    I have a check mark in the "view bookmark toolbar" but it still doesn't show. This just changed after I turned my computer on again. When you go to bookmarks and click on "bookmark toolbar", all the websites are still there, but I want them to show up again across the top of my page. Help please!

    You can try go to your profile folder:
    *[https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data Profiles]
    Close Firefox. Delete or rename the file localstore.rdf and restart Firefox and try show your bookmarks
    Also, maybe the bookmarks toolbar is in the customize window, go to '''View''' >> '''Toolbar''' >> '''Customize''' look for the bookmarks toolbar drag and drop on the toolbar and close the window

  • Bookmarks toolbar changed from the right side of the drop-down menu to the left. How can I change it back on Firefox 4.0.1 for Mac?

    I just updated to Firefox 4.0.1. Some changes I don't like, especially that the Bookmarks toolbar opens to the left of the drop-down menu instead of the right. How can I change it?

    You may have bookmarks that have long title. Firefox 4 shows the full text of the bookmark name, so if it doesn't fit with opening to the right side the Firefox will open to the left side. You can scroll through the list and make the bookmarks with a long name shorter.

  • I need to change the color of the font in my Bookmark Toolbar. Unable to read all bookmarks.

    No longer have a question about editing the Bookmarks Toolbar. I may be dense, but I have not discovered how I may change the text (font) color when using View, Bookmarks, Custom. I see the capability to choose to use text and image, but not to change the color of the text. The ability to "bold" the text would probably be sufficient. I will revisit the Getting Started page and select other background colors to try and alleviate the problem. Persona or thema colors conflict with black text (for my older eyes - I have a vision problem.).

    You can make such a change with code in userChrome.css
    Add code to [http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css userChrome.css] below the @namespace line.<br />
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_configuration#How_to_edit_configuration_files
    <pre><nowiki>@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */
    #personal-bookmarks .toolbarbutton-text {
    color: black !important;
    background-color: -moz-dialog !important;
    font-size: 11pt !important;
    font-weight: bold;
    </nowiki></pre>
    You can adjust the values or leave out things that you do not want to change.

  • When I want to add items to the bookmarks toolbar, for example: -Zoom toolbar. The zoom Toolbar appears on the bookmarks toolbar, but it shows the favicons aswell the underlined text. I only want the favicons. How to do this, please help!!

    I want to add items to the bookmarks toolbar. for example: the Zoom Toolbar addon. This works, but not only the favicons appear on the bookmarks toolbar, aswell as the underlined text. How to avoid this?
    I only want the favicons from an addon to appear on the bookmarks toolbar, not with the underlined text. How to do this?
    This problem doesn't happen with any other toolbar. And this problem didn't happen with an earlier version of firefox. Please Help!
    Thanx, BassMann.

    If you only want the favicons and not the names of the bookmarks on the bookmarks toolbar, you can do that with the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4072/ Smart Bookmarks Bar] add-on.

  • I enabled my bookmarks toolbar (FF hides it by default) , but It is no longer there. Even when I go into view and check bookmarks, the toolbar fails to appear. How do I remedy this?

    This has never occurred before. I have never had a problem with Firefox. I use my bookmarks toolbar all the time, so I noticed immediately when I sat down that it was gone. I tried going the check mark route and it did nothing. I also tried right clicking the toolbar area to see what I could do, but again with the check marks. Whenever I check the bookmarks toolbar nothing happens except the bookmarks button disappears from beside the homepage button. Please help me resolve this before I get too frustrated.
    Thank You,
    JM

    Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * Make sure that you have the "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * Check in "View > Toolbars > Customize" that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize window onto the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" then click the "Restore Default Set" button

  • How do I add a bookmark to the Bookmark toolbar permanently and delete it from the Recntly Bookmarked list?

    It seems to me that in a previous version of Firefox that one could add a bookmark to the Bookmarks Toolbar and have it stay there.
    I like to keep things neat and tidy. Now when I delete this bookmark from the Recently Bookmarked list (or the Unsorted Bookmarks list), Firefox insists only deleting it from the Bookmarks Toolbar as well.
    How do I add a bookmark to the Bookmarks toolbar and keep it there? Am I required to keep it in the Recently Bookmarked and/or Unsorted Bookmarks list in order to have it remain on the Bookmarks Toolbar?

    * "Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked" and "Recent Tags" are examples of so called [[Smart Bookmarks folders|Smart Bookmarks folders]] and are not real existing folders.
    * Smart folders show a list created by a query of the places.sqlite database that stores bookmarks and history in Firefox.
    * Smart folder lists show a maximum of 10 entries by default.
    * Bookmarks and history items that show up in a smart folder list are stored elsewhere in another folder and any changes made are applied to the real bookmark or history item.
    * If you remove an entry then the list is shifted up and a new entry that wasn't shown previously is added to show 10 entries.
    * If you add a new bookmark or visit a website then a new item is added at the top and the entry at the bottom disappears from that list.

  • I want to access the options in the context menu when clicking on a dropdown list in the bookmarks toolbar, but the context menu disappears when I try to click on one of the options. How can I keep the menu from disappearing?

    I have several dropdown lists in my bookmarks toolbar and would like to access the properties for some of the the items. This used to work fine. However, now, when I go to the list and place the cursor on a particular item, the context menu that is usually available on a right click disappears when I try to access one of the options. This is the menu that begins with Open. What can I do to regain this functionality? I really need the information in the Properties section. I'm using Firefox 3.6.8

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
    Also check the Mouse driver settings in the Control Panel.

  • When I click on a folder in the bookmarks toolbar, it often won't open

    Staring with Firefox version 4 and higher, I've been experiencing a strange problem with my bookmarks toolbar. If I try to open a folder from the toolbar while a site is loading, the bookmarks inside of the folder will not appear. As a workaround, I have to move my mouse to another folder and open it. Once I do that, I can go back and open the folder I wanted to open in the first place. For that matter, this seems to also happen with buttons on the main toolbar (but only when a page is in the midst of loading). Have you ever heard of this behavior before and if so, any ideas as to what's causing it?

    Perfect! I had googled around found other edits to userchrome.css that didn't quite work for me, but this is just what I needed. Not sure how I missed it. Thanks!
