HI,
I'm finally starting to do serious investigation of the wonderful world of "non standardized " HD editing.
Starting with the Red camera, and moving along to the panavision 'genesis', and then to the newer ( and supposedly rising star) arri 'Alexa'....
I want a hardware combination ( PC ) that can handle that with CS5 or the next release... this will take a lot of time for me to work out...because the more I get into it the more I realize I haven't a clue what I will need... whether it's prores or cineform, whether I need a dual link HD-SDI capture card, or 3gig SDI, and so on....
At any rate these are all technical issues not belonging in the lounge where I would rather have a beer and draw pictures of my dream editing machine on paper napkins wet with condensation....so the question I'd like to ask opinions about is basically...
Where is all this going ???? What is the future a year from now ??? Why does my Head Hurt from thinking so much ! ?

Hi Chuck...I've been working as a grip for 35 years and now I sorta fell in love with editing. I probably WONT be able to break into doing any commercial editing at this point (as I am also looking at retirement in a few years or so -God willing ) - but would love to ...even if it's just doing dailies for a tv show or commercial, feature, whatever. I wouldn't turn down production work either ( maybe some kinda associate coordinator or something) as I kinda know a lot about the crew end of things ( what it takes to do the jobs ). Anyway, the footage for editing would be coming from arri alexa, pany genesis, red camera, and that sort of stuff... probably hard drive or tape to me ( tape on way out though...solid state memory(basically stacked flash cards) are being transferred to hard drives and those drives get sent to editor...eg. a show in NY (genesis camera) sends a hard drive at end of shoot day to california ( saving a tape backup from the flash drive) and they get stuff back next day.
Apparently its raw from genesis which is I think a sony camera that got panavisionized...and has a different logarithm now..haven't got sample footage form that camera yet. Did get sample of ProRes 422 in a mov wrapper and played with that yesterday using CS3. Even with just 4-5 HD clips and a 30 sec timeline my machine is having trouble handling these files...so I need to get new computer and CS5...and am trying to determine beforehand what I will need.

ps. grip work has been "per diem" - meaning every job ( movie, commercial, tv show in film format ( now digital sometimes) ) is a different "employer". Sooo, in answer to your question re: who I'm associated with..it's more or less a word of mouth thing and represented by a union of us who keep an office in NYC ( iatse).

Instead of removing the music from the cloud or the iTunes library why not shuffle your music using a Smart Playlist which excludes the holiday music, or tracks that are not checked. For example, use this very simple Smart Playlist:

What’s the best way to organize all this? I would like to avoid repurchasing the exact same DRM’ed content in too many itunes accounts.
I have a big family full of 6 people/laptops, 3 TV/PCs, multiple ipods, iphones, etc. per person; and a growing number of separate itunes accounts. All the computers are running Windows 7 and are on the same network so can all be shared. I don’t have a media server yet, but the PC attached to my “Main” TV serves this purpose at the moment and includes my “Main” itunes account. I’m beginning to consolidate all the media from the various PC/itunes accounts into this Main library.
*Answers to these questions might help me get started (and please also answer any questions I should have asked!)…*
1. How many different computers can be authorized per itunes account? I think this is 5.
2. Conversely, how many itunes accounts can be authorized per computer? (i.e. how many different itunes accounts/libraries can be shared and sucked into the Main itunes account connected to my Main PC/TV)? Also 5? Unlimited?
3. I think an ipod or iphone can only be synced to one library at a time (assuming no hacking). A library can hold media from several accounts (as in question 2). But how many different accounts/libraries, once sucked into the Main library, can then be synced to an ipod, iphone, etc.? Is the answer the same as question #2? I assume there is only a limit on DRM content (ie there is no from-this-library “tag” for non-DRM content).
4. I know I can have the same itunes account (ie apple id/login) on multiple computers. Each would still have its own “library,” however. Except for movie rentals, which are restricted to the computer, is all other DRM content tagged to the itunes account (apple id)? Not the computer or library? Does the “library” even matter in all these discussions? Or only the “computer” and the “account?”
*For sake of discussion, this is what I mean by (please correct)…*
A. Account = an itunes account, which is set up with a unique apple id.
B. Library = the itunes application on a computer has one library. Let’s assume “copy files” and “keep organized” are checked.
C. Hard Drive = where the content physically resides (a library can include pointers to files on multiple hard drives (what about on networked computers?))
D. Computer = DRM content can be played on up to 5 “authorized” computers. Is it the computer that is authorized or the library on that computer?

They can only auto sync to one itunes library, though.
4. DRM is tied to the itunes store account. You can check: highlight a purchased song, right-click > get info. The Summary tab shows the purchase info and itunes account.
Your definition of B) library is a little off. Each windows user Id on the same PC can have a different library database. If you have 6 windows users on one PC, and they each start itunes for the first time using all the defaults, there will be 6 itunes library databases. They can all be pointing to the same content.

Brain hurts, need help nullPointerException problems

I've been working on this program almost 8 hours straight and have just hit my latest problem but I'm getting too tired to solve it tonight and thought someone might have some useful pointers.
I have a screen that takes several details in text fields from the user and when the OK button is pressed does the following:

This displays the next panel which works fine on its own but when I add the code to get the details I've just set with newInstance, so I can display them back to the user I get a NullPointerException.
My set code is called when initialising the panel and looks like this:

Seems getFullDetails is not returning anything to titleDetails. Field is an array of things. It's set up to handle int, boolean and String. The asString determines the type of titleDetails[x] and converts it to a String. It is at the point where asString is trying to convert the first parameter it is determining the object type is null.
I'm sure the answer is simple but I'm felling a bit fried so any help would be appreciated before I start afresh tomorrow.

My problem is not so much setText as the fact when I read the values in the object instance I created they are null. I've found a interesting point though. I added debug lines and found that the newInstance had the correct values and the setObject created an object that was not null.
However the first time you submit the details when it tries to get the object it is null. However when you try and enter the details for a second time it will display the details entered on your first entry. Likewise if you went to enter a third title and put blank details in it would display the second set of details back to the user when they click OK.

This is getting the Object back that we just set and fetching its details to display to the user by populating the TextFields.
As I say first time you enter the details and click OK it displays the above panel and outputs "MSS = null" and cannot populate the fields. When you enter the next set of title details and click "OK" getObject is no longer setting mss to null but the values fetched to set the TextFields is the data entered for the first title and not the details just entered.

Brain Teaser: EWQLSO Related

Ok, I may just be completely missing something here, but my brain hurts and I was hoping someone could help me out.
Here's the deal:
Working on a score for a short film and am using EWQLSO for some cello parts. I originally had 2 instances of the plug for 2 different parts and ended up scrapping one of them, but had just left the plug there for the time being. Now I am going through and "cleaning up my mess" and deleting the unused channel strip's plug causes the one I am still using to behave differently. Only deleting it causes this behavior. If I mute it or just flat out bypass the unused one, nothing changes. But when it's deleted, the sound on the other channel completely changes.
Anybody have any ideas? I've never experienced this issue before and I hate a messy Logic file

By any chance was one of the plugs set to be a "stereo" audio instrument but the other instance of the plug was a "multi" audio instrument?
Gonna suggest 2.75 things...
1. Remove the unused plug, save the song under a new name, quit Logic, relaunch and load this new song, see if the plug plays correctly now. If not...
2. Load your original song. Load a different sound into your unused plug, something totally unrelated, like bassoon. See if that changes anything. If not...
2a. Lose both plugs. Re-load the EWSQL plug in the original (keeper) slot and then load the patch back in. If that doesn't play back correctly...
2b. Lose the plug from 2a. Re-load the EWSQL plug into a new audio instrument, then load the patch.
If none of those steps solve the problem then I'm totally stumped.

How do I consolidate multiple Itunes folders on one computer?

I had a mishap with my external hard drive (I didn't know how to use it properly..yup USER ERROR!) so I have three different Itunes folders intertwined in my music folders with different previous Itunes libraries. I made a backup of the entire music mess on a flash drive, have a new computer and finally an ipod to put my music on...
Can someone give me some detailed steps to be able to consolidate all of my many Itunes libraries and let me know how I can access the music in my previous Itunes libraries? I want to make sure that I still have the rights to the music that I purchased in the past. I had some music in the Itunes cloud which is great but not nearly all of it...DRATS!
I found some steps to consolidate music from different computers onto one but I'm not sure that the same steps apply to my situation. How do I completely enable a new custom asset in Correspondence Management?

I'm trying to add a new custom asset to the Correspondence Management Solution Accelerator, and have it behave like all other assets in the system (ie searchable, updateable etc). I'm almost there, but there's obviously something I'm missing, and I was hoping someone here might have done this before, or have a link to some documentation regarding the matter that I may have missed. The asset I'm trying finish creating is for a LiveCycle user in a specific domain. This is what I've done so far...
I've created the asset definition MyUser.fml and placed it in the FSIApp\Portal\webapp\WEB-INF\assetDefinitions folder. I've then registered this fml file in the spring-config.xml file in both the 'lc.cm.assetDefinitionsDeployer' and 'lc.cm.assetTypeRegistryBootstrapper' beans. In the 'lc.cm.assetTypeRegistryBootstrapper' bean, I set the key to 'MyUser', and the value to the class path of my Java class that represents this asset.
On the Java side I've created the MyUser.java class, as well as MyUserService.java and MyUserServiceImpl.java to allow the searching, updating etc of the MyUser assets.
After running the Bootstrap process, I can log into the Manage Templates application, select Data Dictionaries from the 'View' dropdown, and view/edit the MyUser data dictionary properties with no problems. So I'm happy that the asset has successfully been registered with the application.
Where I'm stuck is choosing the MyUser asset from the drop down, and searching the system for assets of that type. I can choose the MyUser asset type from the 'view' drop down, but the search result returns an empty array.
From digging into the existing Manage Templates code, I've created the following classes:

My problem is that when I choose the MyUser asset from the drop down, no search results are returned (an empty array is returned). I have logging code in the getAllMyUsers function in the MyUserServiceDelegateclass.as, as well as logging in the MyUserServiceImpl.java class (not shown in the above code snippets) and neither of them fire when selecting the MyUser asset from the drop down. So neither of the classes are being called on the search. If I force a search via the following line:
MyUserSeviceProvider.getMyUserService().getAllMyUsers();
the logging in both the Flex and Java classes works (and the java class returns the results as expected). So I'm happy that these functions, as well as the linking between the Flex and the Java side is working correctly.
The step that I can't seem to work out is having the selection of the asset in the drop down call the desired function automagically. I've been digging into the SearchManager, the ServiceLocator and heaps of other classes, but I'm falling deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole...
Can anyone shed some light on what they think might be needed to make the final link here? I've been digging and digging into the code for days now and my brain hurts!!

New wireless network with several access points

Hi,
We are planing to deploy a wireless network that will cover two floors consisting of about 5 or 6 Access points. It should have 2 or 3 SSID (placing the clients in 2 or 3 different VLANS).
What would be the best solution for this?
I read a lot about wireless controllers. What about an option to just buy standalone access points? Are they all configured to work with the same SSID's and on the same channel?

A centralized controller should make your life easier:
- Centralized config - set up everything on the controller and it gets applied to the AP's.
- Centralized monitoring - when someone has a problem, you can check the controller instead of having to figure out the AP to which they are connecting (computers don't always connect to the closest AP)
- Dumb AP's - if someone steals one of your APs, they will not be able to learn much about your network from a lightweight AP
- Radio Resource Management - let the controller make the channel and power setting decisions for you
- If you use PoE, you may never have to get on a ladder and use the console port of a lightweight AP. The AP is managed by the controller, and for the rare occasion that you can't get an AP to respond - just cycle the power to the AP via the switch port.
There are some downsides:
- Cost of the controller (since you're buying AP's one way or the other)
- Most cost: If your wireless network is important, then you typically want a second wireless controller as a backup
- Probably more downsides, but my brain hurts today

Itunes, Multiple Macs, Iphones and Icloud account vs.NAS help!

I have a problem with the way im using Nas and how i manage multiple Itunes across multiple machines and Iphones.
Background.
Network - I have a Synology 2Tb NAS storage solution which is connected via a Wifi, ethernet router & modem to the other machines either fixed or wireless.
Connecting Devices ( See diagram)
Station one = Macpro - 10.7.5 | itunes 11.1.5 | Fixed Ethernet connection to router network
Station two = Mac Mini -10.7.5 | itunes 11.1.5 | fixed ethernet connection to route network
Station three = Macbook - Maverick | itunes 11.1.5 | wireless
History.
I have previously moved all my itunes files (Not the library) from station one (see diagram) to NAS using the advice on this forum (very helpful) and kept the library on the Macpro which caused no problem with the Itunes, phone syncing etc as it was all with one Apple icloud profile with one Iphone.
So the wife then got herself an Iphone which we found was difficult to synch on station one, so decided to use a mini mac as her machine so she could sync phone and have here own itunes and this i think is where I might have managed to screw things up and where the complexity begins.
We sync one calender across all machines using icloud but each person has seperate apple IDs for phones/itunes etc which we set up and that part seems to work.
Problem
The big issue I have now is that there are elements of the Itunes storage which are now going wrong and its mainly down to the seperate libraries being used and amending data on the stored files. It creates problems when one machine adds a file or amends a title it then throws out the local libraries on the machines
The solution i think is setting up a single library on each machine which syncs (somehow) everytime someone moves, changes and adds to the music and movie elemements yet i can continue to use a local library on station one and two which syncs for Iphone/Ipad and apps changes.
Is there a solution to that ?

Fundamental behaviors of iTunes:
iTunes only looks at its library file to tell it what is in the media collection. If items are added to the media folders directly without adding to the library, iTunes has no idea they are there. That's just the way it works and no way to get around it. Oh, you could maybe come up with an Applescript that would start iTunes and add items to a library at the same time. The Dougscripts web site even has one that kind of does that ('scan files folders not added' I think) but you'd need to modify it to make it automated.
Given the above, a using a common library file is the only way to make sure when iTunes is opened on a computer it is up to date on additions. However, a library file can only be opened by one running iTunes application at a time.

Using Same Menus with Revised Source Movie?

My prediction on this question is that the only answer will be: Recreate From Scratch. But just to further my education, here goes...
I have an iDVD project which I've got set up and working nicely from the DVD authoring standpoint. Menus and buttons have been extensively customized and configured, and everything's functioning the way I want. But for some unforeseen image-quality reasons, I had to go back to my Final Cut timeline and change some filter effects on a number of clips. Other than that, the timeline is exactly the same length, and all the Chapter Markers remain in the exact same locations, with the same names, etc.
So I exported a new .mov QuickTime from FinalCut (called "Project_v2.mov" for the sake of this discussion), and meantime did a "Save As" in iDVD (creating a file called "iDVDProject_v2.dvdproj").
The Questions:
1) Is there now any way (either official or sneaky) whereby I can import the new "Project_v2.mov" source movie into this new "iDVDProject_v2.dvdproj" file, and have iDVD do its proprietary encoding -- but still have all my menus link to this new source material (which is frame-for-frame identical to the original source movie in terms of content, just with some different filter settings applied back in FCP)?
2) If (as I fear) I have to start with a whole new project, and re-create all the custom menus and specific button settings, is there any efficient way to copy menu & button configurations from one project to another -- since "Saving as Favorite Theme" doesn't seem to retain a lot of that button & menu customization, though it's possible I'm not using it correctly.
3) Again just for my education, if this were a DVD-SP project -- and the new .mov source movie had been encoded into asset-ready .m2v and .ac3 files using the same names as the originals -- would I be able to simply trick DVD-SP into referencing these new files and linking to their identical Chapter Markers from the already-created menus and buttons?

1. Bengt is right. The 'bug' will cause your chapter markers to default to the same chapter; usually the one nearest the change in your movie, but not always. Even though iDVD will recognize that 'assets have changed' and asks if you wish to update, it will only appear to have incorporated the changes, but the chapter markers will not work. There is no 'fix.' You must recreate the project.
2. You can use 'Grab' to take screen shots of your custom menus and settings so you can more easily reproduce them, but you cannot do a custom saving of those to use in another project. Cheer up; it actually doesn't take THAT long since you have already created the project once, and you can refer to your screen shots to be sure you are reproducing it correctly.
3. No experience with DVD-SP, but I am thinking it may be much the same as iDVD as far as doing what you propose.

I have following successfully running code, each can populate 1 table cell updating in ChangeTableSelectionMain1 change to another table in ChangeTableSelectionMain1 also, or populate 1 table cell in ChangeTableSelectionSub1 change to another table in ChangeTableSelectionSub1 also, But cannot populate table cell updating in ChangeTableSelectionMain1 to ChangeTableSelectionSub1, Please advice how to make populating table cell updating in ChangeTableSelectionMain1 to ChangeTableSelectionSub1 successful??

Sync applications problem with 3GS and new computer

Hopefully someone can help me out. I am trying to sync my fiancee's 3GS to our new Dell laptop that has Windows 7. I had no problem syncing and updating my 3GS with the same computer last night, I updated to the 4.0 last night on my phone. I then tried to update her phone. It asked me to backup and sync all data prior to updating. I was able to back up and sync contacts and photos without a problem. I tried to transfer the applications; and now I keep receiving this message: "Some of the purchased items on iPhone could not be transferred to your iTunes library because you are not authorized for them on this computer." I certainly authorized the computer; thinking that might be the problem, I deauthorized and reauthorized the computer successfully (It says that I have one out of 5 possible computers authorized). That did not solve the issue. I researched into the topic; and now my brain hurts. One of the threads requested to disable the automatic sync when the iPhone is connected to the computer. I reset the settings, powered down the iPhone and exited out of iTunes; rebooted and still no success. I am getting frustrated but do not want to erase all of her applications and buy them again. This message is applying to both free and purchased applications. When I look at the applications page on iTunes; all of her program icons are apparent. I am not an iPhone genius, but I read that the new computer has never recognized the phone and the sync will go from computer to phone (if I understood correctly). Does that mean I need to reinstall iTunes and start from scratch with this computer; or is there a solution? Both of our phones were rarely synced with our old laptop; but I worry that syncing with that computer will only further complicate the situation. Without transferring the applications, I am hesitant to update the phone to 4.0 and the new carrier settings. Do I just let the computer try to transfer the applications it allows and then lose my apps and do the update? I don't want to do that unless that is my only choice. Please help me!

We ended up hsving to set up two login users on the PC (not sure how to do that) and then two seperate ITunes accounts, one for each of us.

Error reinstalling Yosemite & hard drive can't unmount

Product: MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2009
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3 (Factory installed Samsung 4GB, upgraded to Crucial 8GB)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
Software: OS X 10.10.x (base OS X = 10.6.x Snow Leopard)
Disclaimer: I am by no means an "advanced" user, I consider myself to be a beginner. All the steps I performed below were a result of research. Plus, I've done so many things my eyes are crossing and my brain hurts. I tried to provide as much detail as possible while attempting to be concise.
My initial problem began when my MacBook started to run very slowly. So I did some research and tried the following:
-Ran Activity Monitor to see what was taking up memory and CPU usage. MacBook was way too slow to respond.
-Performed the "sudo purge" feature in Terminal. MacBook was still very slow.
-Booted to Recovery and verified and repaired all permissions and disk. Everything was verified, no problems. Some permissions needed to be repaired and were repaired successfully. After a reboot, logged in, and after a few minutes the MacBook is still slow).
-Tried resetting the SMC (I seem to remember trying this). Still slow. Reset the SMC after running in safe mode. Still slow.
-Reset the PRAM. Still slow.
Note: by "slow" I mean every time I click on something I get the spinning beach ball for minutes on end. The last reboot after resetting the PRAM, I clicked "Restart" from the login screen and got the spinning beach ball... FROM THE LOGIN SCREEN!
I've had this spinning beach ball happen at least two or three times before -- but never at the login screen -- and I seem to remember that one (or more) of the above steps seems to fix the issue. Since I had no success, the following step had also fixed it for me in the past:
-Boot to Recovery and reinstalled OS X. Near the end of the process, I received an error message: "Error occurred while extracting files from the package Essentials.pkg" and the only option is to restart or go back to the Disk Utility. After restarting, the MacBook boots directly to the "Install OS X" screen, shows the progress bar at about "23 minutes remaining" and after about 10 minutes, gives me the same "Error occurred..." message when the progress reaches 18 minutes. Several restarts takes me back to the exact same message.
-I found on another thread that the third-party RAM upgrade may be in an issue. It was suggested to re-install the factory RAM, and the OS X install will work. I did that with no success. I still get the "Error occurred..." message after a reboot. (Perhaps I installed the factory RAM improperly, but I seriously doubt it). Several reboots, no change.
-Rebooted to single-user mode to do a file system check, and everything was fine. No errors, no problems... so I rebooted, and still received the "Error occurred..." message during the install process.
-Decided as a last last resort to erase the hard drive and start fresh, so at the "Error occurred..." screen, I am able to go back to Disk Utility. I go back to Disk Utility and attempt to erase the hard drive and immediately receive the message: "Unable to unmount disk." Then I tried to partition from Disk Utility and of course, "Unable to unmount disk."
Up until the "unmount" problem the issues seemed to stem from the OS X and not the hard drive. Especially after I did the file system check with no errors... Needless to say, I'm at a loss. So I guess my question boils down to: can I purchase a new unformatted hard drive, format it in Disk Utility, and start using that new hard drive? I've been wanting to upgrade to an SSD for about 2 months -- and I guess I waited too late -- but everything I've seen suggests "cloning" the current HD onto the SSD first to avoid boot problems. Not only am I not inclined to clone my current HD because of these issues, but I doubt that it will even work at this point. I don't want to waste any more time (nor do I want this endeavor to be a waste of money).
Another question: did I re-install the RAM improperly? If so, how would I know?
I started off with OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 but have upgraded to Lion, then digitally Mountain Lion, Mavericks, and now Yosemite. I have done a ton of research but I have yet to see a sequence of events like this one. I really hope someone can help me out!

I will try the Command + Option + R to try to reformat the hard drive, and use the original install disc to give it a shot. I just hope I don't do any more damage than I may have already done.

Help, I need to search for duplicate photos in my external hard drive

Thank you very much for all your help so far. I have been using a mac for the last few years and LOVE IT! I was wondering if I could pick your brain for a moment. I have backed up my iphoto library onto my external hard drive...a few times...once or twice before I really knew what I was doing. There are a couple of folders that I fear have duplicates and I wasn't diligent about naming pics after having a baby (and now I know the errors of my ways). Now I have lots of folders like 01, 02, 03, etc and within each, there are the different days of the month. So, my question to you is do you know of a program that can seek on my external hard drive and show me duplicates and ask me if I want to remove them? I am trying a program right now called DupeGuru, but it has been running for abot 6 hours already and is only 1/4 done!!! It isn't even showing me that it's found any dupes yet. I've looked at iphoto diet and duplicate annihilator and both seem to only work with iphoto.
I really need an application or workflow to search my iomega 80g usb drive. if you have any thoughts, I'd love to hear them. My brain hurts trying to figure all of this out. Thanks again for your help!!!

Thanks for your response to my question, I see your point and will do that, however, I have another folder that was created before I had a Mac, which has all sorts of lovely titles and labels and some of those pictures I brought over to my ibook when I first started. So there are some duplicates in my iphoto library that I already have backed up in that other folder. I guess I shouldn't really obsess about those. I guess I am just nervous about deleting all my prior iphoto library, but I should have faith that it will all be there in my pictures library. Just trying to clean up the virtual mess.
I'll hold my breath and take the plunge.

CS3 - Auto Anchored objects

Hi all,
I would like to speed up my workflow enormously. I have a very repetitive thing that I need to speed up somehow...
I receive supplied text that requires formatting. I have just about everything automated except inserting graphics into certain locations. I currently insert an object as an anchored object one by one wherever it needs to be put..
The things is, all the graphic objects are identical (the exact same file), and they appear hundreds of time throughout the document.
The objects are to all behave exactly the same way so a style could be set up - it's just the matter of placing the object hundreds of times every time I get new text to update the file with. So at the moment, I am spending way way way too much time individually placing each object one by one.
I'm not a highly experienced ID user, so I'm hoping I'm just missing something here. I've scoured tutorials and help and the web to no avail. Hence my post here.
Currently, they put the text code "grphc" where they want the little picture in the text supplied to me. I then do a search for "grphc" in the find function. It finds it, I then select this code and place the inline object. I then go back to the find function to show me the next code. It takes me straight to it, I then repeat the process of selecting the text code, place the object, find the next code, select the code, place the object, find the next code, select the text, place the object, find the next code, select it, place the thing, find the next, select it, place it... and so on and so on till my brain hurts through a very very repetitive operation. It hurts!.
Please help me automate this very time consuming and brain numbing repetitive action...
Like I said, I'm not a heavily experienced user of InDesign, so I'm hoping that I am simply missing something. (I can only hope)
I'm hoping that a very easy, almost 'one click' fix can replace the special code with this little grpahic.
I mean, I can find all occurrences of a given text in the document and replace it all in one hit with some other text, but it seems to not allow to replace text with a graphic.
please help. even if the answer is in front of my face & cannot see it..

I must admit though, I am surprised that with the amount of power ID has with this Find/Replace function that it doesn't have the ability to find and replace with a graphic.
Maybe I should put a wish list to ID to add this find text and replace with an object feature...
