It's not clear whether you were able to do any backups to this drive at all.  If not, it's probably not formatted properly.  See #5 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions for instructions.
If you did get any successful backups, there may be a problem with the drive, or the backups may be corrupted.  Try to repair the backups, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

After working perfectly for two years my iTouch has suddenly stopped connecting to my Hub although my desktop computer still connects.  I have tried everything I can think of, including suggestions off Google/You Tube but nothing makes any difference.  Any ideas.  Surely it is not fit for the scrap heap after two years, but is clearly no use as it is.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My iPad mini won't charge at all. I got it for Chrisrmas and it is still in brand new condition and it was fine but now it won't charge at all! It used to charge in an exact position but now it has stopped altogether...Help!!

My iPad mini won't charge at all. I got it for Christmas off my dad and it is still in brand new condition. Until the other day it has been working fine but until yesterday or the day before my charger went all funny. In order to charge my iPad mini you had to put the charger in an exact place and if someone so much as touched it it would stop charging because it wasn't in its exact position. But today I tried to charge it again and I tried getting it in the same spot as yesterday but it is not working at all. I have only ever charged my iPad mini in the wall but I have seen posts about people charging it in the USB in an computer. So I thought I would also try that but that hasn't worked either and now my iPad mini won't charge in a plug or USB and I live really far away from an apple store and I can't get a new charger also because I live far away from the store. So what shall I do?

When and where was the iPad/charger purchased? It's covered by a 1-year warranty.
The problem may be the USB cable.

  • My brand new MacBook pro charged last night but now won't turn on, help!

My MacBook pro charged fully last night but now won't turn on, the green battery light is flashing but no matter how long I hold the power button it won't start. I just bought the MacBook in January.

Well then it isn't really Brand New. Brand New kinda means you bought it yesteerday or 2-3 days ago.
In any event youy need to take it to Apple and have them fix or replace it.
You have a hardware problem that only Apple can fix.

  • Time machine backup disappeared after upgrading OS from Lion to Mountain Lion.

I made a full backup of my 2011 Macbook Pro to my network drive through Time Machine in order to upgrade to Mountain Lion. However, after the upgrade, the backup could not be found. As it went through the install, I opted to recover the backup afterwards as I have read that you can do that after the upgrade. But the migration assistant could not find a backup.
So I looked in Finder at my external drive, and sure enough the backup is gone.
    Some extra info:
So I don't know if this has affected anything important, I'm not that computer smart.
Prior to this I've been trying to get Windows 7 to work on bootcamp (still not working). I needed the OS X install disc, but I didn't have the install disc(I had OS Lion installed) and I bought the laptop from someone at work, so I couldn't get the Lion iso pulled from the recovery to a flash drive (it required the previous owners password to his apple account). Therefore I purchased the Mountain Lion Upgrade (Lion being no longer available. I didn't really want mountain lion). So when I started the Mountain Lion install, I had the "brilliant" idea to install it on the flash drive I had intended to use in the first place. Well, I didn't think it was gonna start the upgrade immediately after that. Anyways, after I realised my mistake I redid the install, process was the same, chose the main HD, went well. This was where I opted out of the recover-from-backup option. At this point I tried to restore my backup through the migration assistant. It said there was not enough room on the hard drive. I then noticed that all the memory used up prior upgrading was still in use, but under the old main user. I didn't do much with it, and thinking that my backup had my back, I did a full clean install. Another mistake. After the clean install, the migration assistant said there was no backup. I looked in finder, it was gone.
I didn't touch the hard drive thinking it is either hidden, or deleted but not written over yet and still could be recovered. I don't know how to explore these options, I can't find anything online about either. Or perhaps there are other options to consider?
    Please advise.

    It's early 2011.
I have been able to purchase the upgrade under my username at the upgrade price. I didn't know that Lion stays under the previous owner's Apple account. I mean I got that when I tried putting the Lion Iso on a bootable drive (for the purpose of bootcamp) it said I needed the username and password of the Lion purchaser, but I went to get my own license then, but it was Mountain Lion at the upgrade price. I didn't think it had anything to do with my backup.
So looking back, that seems like a warning Apple should have put out for people to be wary of. "Hey, don't buy a laptop from someone and then upgrade, you'll lose everything." That's a load of crap. I thought I had no worries as long as I had a backup. I've never needed a backup, then the one time I thought I was in good hands. Nope, I try to do something, and it takes everything from me. That was a lot of data worth of stuff. 550 Gigs! I was shocked and in complete disbelief the moment I realized what I had done.
I just don't want to give this up.

  • My Time Capsule/Time Machine has been showing Preparing Backup for past 48 hours  continuously!

My Time Capsule reported Full the other day.  I now have only 26.8MB of 497.96 GB available. Since then it seems to backing up continuously. The Time machine preferences window shows "Preparing Backup" andnothing else, and it has been doing so for at least past 48 hours.  Any ideas as to the problem?
    Stuartyboy

Yes, the problem is the drive is full.
If you have other files or TM back from other computers, TM on your computer having issues will not be able to delete enough to get sufficient space to backup.
Read how to clean up and delete parts of backups.. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
    Not a good idea though.
    Solution.
    1. Buy a new bigger TC.. cheaper (Than the original 500GB at least), faster and now the smallest is 2TB.
    2. Plug in a USB drive.. archive the TC.. then erase it and start a fresh set of backups.. April 1st great day to do it.
    3. Open up your old TC.. remove the 500GB drive and install a 2TB (if Gen1 a 3TB might even work). Google for how to do a hard disk upgrade.
Problem.. old power supply could die the day after and then the total cost would approach 1. Better to backup, wipe the 500GB and sell it on ebay and buy a new TC with 2 or even 3TB (2TB is better value IMHO).
    4. Plug in a USB drive .. formatted to HFS+ and use that as the target.
Very slow. much slower than the same drive plugged into your computer.

  • Since I have loaded the iOS 8.1.2 the icons on the desk are continuously flickering. I have reboot the device several time. No change.

Bug iOS 8.1.2: icons are flickering permanently (reboot = no change)

Reboot = what? Restarting and resetting are two different things.
Are you holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple Logo appears on the screen? Don't just power the iPad off and then turn it on again.

  • Time Capsule used space hasn't budged for 4+ weeks

I started backing up my MacBook Pro onto a 500-GB Time Capsule on April 22 of this year. I have only about 65 GB on the MBP so I figured 500 GB would go back for many months before the disk was filled and old material started dropping off.
For the first two months I watched the space available on the TC (as reported in the TC system preference panel) drop steadily, from an initial 457 GB to 289.1 GB. Then, a bit over 4 weeks ago, it stopped dropping.
Backups still happen hourly; Time Machine seems to be working perfectly as designed. The amount backed up will be 12 MB, 63 MB, 110 MB, sometimes more if I have downloaded a lot of stuff in a day. But the TC sticks resolutely at 289.1 GB available no matter how much new data I throw at it day by day.
I have investigated using Unix commands in Terminal. The command "df -h" says that the backup volume has 289.1 GB available, day in and day out.
Several times I have used the Time Machine functionality to reach back into the past and restore a file or a folder. Everything works as expected.
What does it mean that I seem to have stopped consuming new space on the TC?

    *Time Machine Keeps*
*Hourly backups for the past 24 hours*
*Daily backups for the past month*
*Weekly backups until your disk is full*
What this means is that after 24 hours, only one version off all the changes that have occured will be stored for that day.
After a month, only weekly versions will be stored. If you have changed files more than once during these periods, all but one version is being purged. You may have reached a point where more information has been purged than there is new information being stored.
The next question that has to occur to you now is why you are not reclaiming space as this happens. Why would the storage space remain constant? The reason for this is that your backup is being stored in a sparsebundle file. This is a disk image file that grows as more space is required however does not decrease in size as files are deleted.
There is a terminal command that can cause the file to be compressed, however it's not necessary to do this. Eventually your backups will again grow before being purged to a week and will cause the sparse bundle to grow again.

  • Time Machine has stopped working, HD errors

Time Machine has suddenly stopped working on my 2008 24" iMac. I have tried two separate drives, but neither work.
When I try and verify my internal HDD it comes back with a number of errors, and it has started to click recently. I expect the two must be linked!
I can't find my install disk to try to repair the main disk and some advice says that might be a bad thing to do anyway if the drive is physically damaged.
I have a full TM back up from two days ago, and I use Carbon Copy Cloner to backup my iPhoto/iTunes library separately.
    My questions are:
    1. What are the issues with running the iMac without TM until the disk finally dies? If it lasts, say, 6 months, can I just restore my Oct 2011 TM back up and rebuild my media libraries from CCC backups or will I lose something else?
    2. Does anyone know the approx cost of getting Apple to replace the HDD? I have seen the online guides to doing it myself and don't really fancy trying!

  • My brand new iPhone 5 keeps saying "Connection Unsuccessful: Make sure "___" is turned on and in range" when I try to connect to my BlueTooth Stereo.

I just bought a brand new iPhone 5 (White and Gold) and have been having trouble keeping it connected to my BlueTooth Stereo.  The stereo was purchased brand new back in September and is current on all software.  Before I had my iPhone 5, I had the iPhone 4 and had no troubles with it connecting or remembering to connect to the stereo when it was in range.  Now, in order to connect to it, I have to first "forget the device" then search for it again, find it, and connect.  As soon as I turn either the stereo off, turn the iPhone off, or switch modes on the stereo (to CD mode, radio, etc) it loses the connection and does not pick it up again.  It still shows up in my list of available bluetooth devices, but when I try to connect it says "Connection Unsuccessful: Make sure '____' is turned on and in range" which of course, it is.
I bought this stereo because I am a music teacher and use my phone frequently when teaching my classes.  You can probably imagine how cumbersome it becomes when after each class if I have alternated between using my iPhone to play music or switching to CD mode, I then need to "forget the device" and follow the steps I outlined above to get it working again.
Has anyone else had this problem with the new iPhone and does anyone have a solution (I HOPE!!!!!)
    Thanks!
