My brand new X230 has battery condition Poor!

Hi all,
Just got me brand new Lenovo X230 with 6cell battery (standard for that model I believe), and when I go to the Power Manager under battery it says Main Battery: Condition Poor and it has red icon of the battery next to it. It's like that from the beginng so from the 0 cycle count. The battery seems to be brand new (Manufacture date - 2013-01-03). What could be the problem?
It also says from new - "Your battery can store 64% of its original full charge capacity"
Thank you for all help in advance.
Regards,
Radek

Sounds like you have 2 bad cells in your 6 cell battery.  I would contact Lenovo and get them to ship you a new one.

  • Brand new Itouch has totally stopped working...??? is it the battery or is there a freeze/lock button that was activated?

Brand new Itouch has just stopped working.....no response...battery seemed to be fully charged and then my daughter hit the button to shut the screen off..now no response whatsoever.....???

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't help, try a Restore.  From iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad.
There's more but let's take it in small bites.
    Also, read this.
There have been some problems accessing pages on the Apple web site.  If the hyperlink gives you a "We're sorry" message, try again.

Depends on usage, your cellular reception overall, and various settings during that time.

This shouldn't happen. Take it back since it's new.

  • Brand new x230 minor problems

I just got my x230 today!, overall pretty happy with the machine, everything is perfect except some minor things on the keyboard.
Does anyone elses esc key or delete key feel less springy than the rest? the key isn't sticky but is just when I press the esc key down it doesn't click like the other keys.. it functions correctly, however it seems weird.
Also I have a pretty wide scuff mark on the right shift key.
Other than these, the machine is perfect, no dead pixels on the IPS screen.
Are these things big issues? or did I get a perfectly fine machine. Im not going to return it, but was wondering if other people had these issues.
    Thanks

    Hello,
I've recived my brand new x230 2 weeks ago, and also noticed some minor quality defects.
    1. Keyboard: Left trackpoint button is not mounted properly. As a consequence it is making quite annoying noise while pressing. DEL button is also not mounted correctly and stands out of the hight of other buttons.
    2. Loose palm rest: There is 2 mm gap at the left side.
Generally, I am bit dissapointed with the overall quality of built. These are not big issues, but still annoying. Apart from that machine is perfect and I love it a lot.
I have been using X60 for last 5 years or so, and I must say that its quality was outstanding. That was the main reason why I went for Lenovo again.
I am waiting now for Lenovo technican to replace the keyboard and mount the palm rest correctly. Hope it will be solved.

  • Battery condition poor - what did I do and what can be done?

For the past few months i've been experiencing trouble with my battery. It dies faster than normal. It would say 3 hours left but in an hour jump down to 30 minutes. I could be simply on the internet without music or video and it would do so. Also, it shuts off without and warning of low battery so I sometimes lose something that was on my screen because I cannot recover the screen as I normally would be able to do if it died on me with that warning. I kind of cannot spend 100 something dollars on a new battery... is there anything I can do? Here is my Power info...thanks :/

I agree you should consider a new battery soon as you can. Since you are aware of it's limitations you can limp by on it for a while. One thing to be sure of is when you do your calibration let the computer and battery sit for at least five hours , unplugged, once the battery dies during the calibration process. You can help yourself by being sure any things you don't need are turned off while running on battery power.
You don't have to use your battery all the way down every time. If you have to use it run it until you can plug it in again. A battery has a finite number of charges (battery cycles) before it loses it's power. Apple states the battery should retain 80% of it's power at 300 cycles. When you get your new battery take care of it and it should last more than a year and a half. My battery is over a year old and it has 58 cycles. I don't expect it to have more than a hundred cycles in the next year. Some will have more cycles some less. Just don't use your battery life unless you need to. Mine is plugged in most of the time and when I use it I plug it into the AC as soon as I can. Doesn't matter if I used it for two hours or ten minutes. It is plugged in as soon as I have AC available.
    Hope this helps.

  • Brand new MacBook but Battery not recognized

I'm not sure if I just got a bad computer or what. I got my MacBook yesterday and when I plugged it in the power cord light was green and has been but when I click on the battery icon it says no battery available...
    Any advice???

    Hi ferg991,
What is the icon like when you click it, is it a battery icon with X on it or simply the icon not showing up.
Here is link that might apply to your case:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304301
But since it is brand new, better bring that back to apple store to have it check and you might get a new battery of even a new macbook with new battery.
    Good Luck.

  • Battery Condition - poor ???

Was surprised to see this recently, would this explain why, at '46%' battery it gave me a low charge message? Then after I plug in, the reading says '99%'.
I'm no genius at how batteries work, does this mean I need a new battery?
Or could this mean my beloved Macbook is ready to be replaced after exactly 2 years?. I use it for several hours every day, and really can't afford another!
Or would it be some sort of software problem?
    Here's my details:
    Model Information:
    Serial Number: DP-ASMB016-38e4-4c4c
    Manufacturer: DP
    Device name: ASMB016

    Condition: Poor
    Battery Installed: Yes

I've no idea what any of this means, so if it's an obvious fix please excuse my idiocy!

Hi Brad_OnBass: The Full charge capacity reading indicates your battery is done. It is approximately 10% of its original rated capacity. Your cycle count is just above what Apple would consider for replacing, but it may be worth your effort to check with an Apple store to see if they will cover it.
    Good Luck

  • Brand new iPhone 6 battery life dropping very fast and charging even faster

my brand new iPhone 6 that I have just recently started using the day before has a surprisingly bad battery life. whrn first turning on the phone to use the battery life only last 1-2 hours with average use. when the battery died this morning I pluhe'd the phone into charge and the battery is charging very fast already at 25% and only being charging for about 15-20 mins. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this problem and if it is normal or if I have just recieved a faulty iPhone 6?

    Can you check:
    1. What apps show on settings - general - usage - battery usage?
    2. How many apps have permission to use cellular data?

  • Brand new 13" MBP Battery life is not 10 hrs.

Today I got my brand new 13" Macbook pro. The battery is advertised as lasting up to 10 hrs. This is my first time using the computer and I charged it up completely. I just unplugged it. The battery meter on top reads 6.46 hrs.
I have the display turned down. and the keyboard backlight off. I do have wifi on and bluetooth on but why is it not reading higher?

Yes you should calibrate your battery at least a couple times. I just purchased a new 15" i7 and found some improvement after doing it once, and a little bit more after the second time. Here's some instructions from Apple...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/9036.html
With the 13" you have a very energy efficient machine but Apple's battery times are under "ideal" conditions and seem to be a little overstated (OK maybe more than a little). My 2008 15" non-unibody had a "5 hour battery" and in real life it was more like 3-4 hr maximum under light use. *I also had the 2009 version of your 13" and got around 6-6.5 hrs max out of the "7 hour battery" again under light usage.* My 2010 15" i7 well... let's just say the 8-9 hours quoted must be under lab conditions! Real life battery is 2-7hrs depending upon usage. Ugh.

  • Brand new U500 has a very loud fan

I received this brand new U500 (customized on Toshiba.com) about 10 days ago - everything works great (love the back-lit keyboard) - but the fan noise is a little louder than what I'm used to.  I had a 6-yr old Dell XPS with a quieter fan than this brand new Toshiba machine.  Basically if I'm standing 20-30 feet away from the laptop I can hear the fan, and one can wonder if this comes from a refrigerator or a vacuum cleaner working in the background.
Has anyone had a similar experience - is this fan noise something I should just learn to accept or do you think I should do something before the computer comes out of warranty?  I really would hate to have to return a brand new computer, but at the same time I think fan issues only get more numerous when a computer gets older.
Just for info, the machine is Satellite U500-ST6322, CORE 2 DUO P7450 2.1GHZ, 4GB RAM, DVD Slot load.
    Thanks a lot.

Hi and welcome to the  forums.
    you wrote
I've read that if I installed OSX 10.4 then the fan would run quieter.
    Is this the case?
No, that wouldn't make a difference. eMacs are famous for their very noisy fans.
Some say they were originally intended as turbine impellers for Boeing, but were rejected as too large. So Apple picked them up, and modified them for use in the eMac.
eMacs were made to be workhorses in classrooms and their robust design includes that heavy duty fan, which does impose itself quite loudly.
Some people have installed a means to introduce resistance to the fan circuit to lower the voltage and hence the fan speed, in an attempt to quieten it down.
Whilst this practice seems to work, personally I would be concerned about that causing overheating as during summer things can get very hot here, though perhaps would be less concerned if living in the UK.

  • Repeated BSODs in my brand new X230 (with Windows 8)

    Hello
I purchased the new X230 in early December and then went on vacation (without it) for two weeks. Thus this is really my first week using it. I've had NINE blue screens of death already, each with the term dpc_watchdog_violation. Further, my Citrix remote work-enabled system shuts down on this computer, making this computer just about useless for work purposes. I'm worried this is a lemon -- how can I have so many crashes in the first week of use? The summary of the crash events is below. Has anyone had similar problems? Has anyone had problems with rtwlane.sys on their X230s?
Thanks for your thoughts and time,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi, MLinBerlin
I did some research on the issue on Microsoft's website and found this page explaining what a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION is. According to Microsoft, this error is normally caused by either hardware or a driver of associated hardware. For this reason, I would recommend making sure that all the drivers and BIOS are up to date to rule out any software reasons for this issue. All drivers for your system can be found here. It could possibly be hardware, but let's hope that some updates will get it running smoothly.
Good luck, and let me know how it goes

  • Brand new iPhone 4 battery drain

I know there are many posts regarding this subject but my issue is very strange.  I had a 3GS for 2 years and it had IOS 5.01 but beginning last Friday the battery began to drain.  I went to an Apple store and the tech told me that the problem was that the usage time and the standby time was exactly the same.  So he tells me to do a restore and set it up as a new phone.  I tried everything...restore from backup, restore as a new iPhone...no change.  So I am thinking that the battery is toast.  Time to upgrade.  I go to ATT to get my new iPhone 4 on Wednesday and get home to set it up on iTunes.  Now my brand new iPhone 4 is doing exactly the same thing as my former 3GS.  I opened a case with Apple today and was told to do a backup then a restore from the backup.  I did not sync any of my apps or music.  Left work at 5pm with a 100% charge, did not use the phone at all for 2+ hours, checked the charge at it was at 74%.  I checked the usage and just as I suspected the usage time and standby time were exactly the same, as if I had been using the phone for 2+ hours.  Apple says they will send me another phone but I really don't think the problem is the phone.  The only common denominator is iTunes.  Any thoughts?

Dlwynn, this is a crazy issue. I can only immagin how frustrating this issue could be for you!
One thing I have found when dealing with any possible hardware or software issue, that I need to get isolated is to scrap the whole back up/restore from back up, and restore the device as new, and see where you are at without all of your stuff on it.
When doing this procedure its important that if you DO have important stuff on the phone you do not want to lose that you back it up in another way...Contacts into windows contacts or use iCloud. You would stand to lose application settings, text messages and call history ..because these are things that are only stored in the back up.
You can save your pictures to your computer using Auto play.
Another way to go about it would be to navigate to your hidden back up folder, copy it to your desktop..restore as new...and if that does not resolve your issue, you put your back up thats on your desktop back into the hidden back up folder, and restore from your back up.
Anyways with all of this being said..If your batter drain issue persists with restoring your device as new in itunes...that would prove a hardware failure.
If the issue goes away after you restore as new. that means that something within your back up was the source of the issue.
The other common thread here is that you keep restoring from your back up.
Anyways I hope this helps you
