My brand spankin' new ipod 2G Nano wont reset after freeze

OK, got a brand new 2G Nano 4 gig when I bought my Imac. Got it maybe 3 weeks ago or so. To date I hadnt used he ipod at all. Finally got some songs and podcasts into itunes last night, synced with the ipod. Ipod is charged 100%. Went to play the podcast, and it froze. Reading on here that freezing and podcasts seems to be a big issue........lovely.
So I tried to reset......nothing, wont reset. Tried unpugging and replugging into different USB ports, and the itunes will not even recognize the ipod. Right now its sitting on my desk with the backlight on, I'm just waiting for the battery to die and maybe I'll be able to reset or restore it
Is there something else I should try to make the imac recognize it? Or anything else I can do to reset it?

This happened to me as well and let me tell you... i was about to flip out. I couldn't believe that i upgraded to a 2nd Generation Ipod nano just to have it die within' two days of me owning it. Anyway try this it worked for me hope it works for you:
Reset instructions differ slightly from Apple site.
1. Toggle hold switch on (orange showing)
2. Toggle hold switch off
3. Hold down menu AND center button for a few seconds
4. Try once more if it didn't work

Hi all,
I JUST opened my new iPod Video 30gb. When I hooked it up to sync and charge, its icon appeared in iTunes for just a second then disappeared. Then it locked on "do not remove" so I did a reset. Then I put in on the dock again and the same thing happened, it popped up in iTunes and my desktop for just a second then disappeared. So, I tried to reset it again. But now it will NOT reset. It is locked on a bright white blank screen. Any attempts at resetting and the iPod gives a weird chime and continues its blank bright screen. Now it will not do anything. It won't show up in iTunes, it won't show up on my Mac, it won't respond to ANY buttons on the click wheel or anywhere.
Geez, I just opened the freakin' box! And of course I can't find ANY phone numbers to get a quick answer from Apple. I've been with apple since 1984 and this is really intolerable.
PLEASE HELP!
Oh yeah, and i CANNOT restore because it can't link to my MAC

Judging by the info on your post, you're in the US. Apple's tech support number is 1-800-APL-CARE. They're open 9-9 Eastern time.
For the issue you're experiencing:
Hold down menu & select until you hear the beeping.
As soon as it beeps, hold down select and play/pause for about 10 seconds or so (it may or may not beep again).
See if you can restore it now.
If not, call Apple for tech support.

I absolutely want to jump in on this post as I find almost zero positive feed back here.
I was a lifelong PC user until about 3 months ago. I now have a 24" iMac, a brand spankin' new MacBook Pro, and Apple TV, iPhone, and AEBS. I love it all. I do all of my windows stuff through Parallels and have found I use almost all Apple based software now (iWork, Logic, Final Cut, Aperture)
I LOVE MY APPLE STUFF !!!!
It really frustrates me to read through these forums and see all of the whiners. There is no electronic product that has a 100% perfect distribution record of working products.
Since my purchase of my iPhone I did have some problems with both the BT headset and the phone itself. I made an appointment with the Genius Bar online....went in....waited maybe 5 minutes.....10 minutes of quick testing....and had both replaced.....no questions asked.
Now I will admit that some of the "Genius's" might not have the most overt personalities and can be a bit difficult, but for every one of those I have encountered there have been a dozen or more Apple employees who have gone WAY out of their way to help me out or answer questions.
I now am enrolled in the OneToOne program with the local Mall of America store here and can't believe how much I learn after each session.
I would expect to see Apple take an enormous foothold in the personal computer market over the next 24 months.

Brand new ipod 7th gen wont syn or turn on, please help!

Just tried to syn my brand new ipod nano 7th generation but have encountered problems that I'm certain should not be happened as this has never happened to me before now.
Firstly, it said that I had to update itunes, which I did.
Then, registered my ipod but it wouldnt sync and everytime I tried plugging it in an icon flashed up that said it was corrupted. This was followed by another window telling me to update my ipod. Clicked on it and a strange white screen came up on the ipod screen that said ok to disconnect with a tick (but not how it usually looks) I have tried resetting it several times by holding down the "sleep" button and then the screen just went black - not the apple logo to say that it was resetting or anything.
Now it wont turn on or register when I plug it into itunes...
Anyone got any suggestions or solutions? Thanks

Just go return it for a new one if its brand new and they will give u a new one. Thats the easiest solution as far as Im concerned

You don't say which operating system version you are running, nor which very specific computer model you have, both of which are needed to come up with a solution. Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac". Write down what it says about "version"and report that here. Now continue to "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
For an iPhone5 you will need iTunes 10.7. That requires you be running OSX 10.6.8 or greater. Old Macs cannot run OSX 10.6.8. Something reporting you are up to date while running iTunes 10.6.3 might be one of those Macs and you may have to buy a new computer to use your iPhone5. Once we know the information I requested we can tell for sure.
Installing a new iTunes should not affect the current content. That said, there are monthly reports here from some unlucky person who claims running an update erased their content. You should always (even when not doing updates) back up your computer. Some day your hard drive will unexpectedly die and all your computer content will be lost. Definitely back up before doing updates and you don't have to worry.

My new iPod Touch 4 wont open downloaded apps which has worked before.

I just bought new ipod touch 4 it worked fine for few days but recently the apps that i downloaded won't open. (Facebook, Instagram) other factory preinstalled apps, music etc works fine.
I have tried to reset it, close all running application but still it doesen't work. It has been working yesterday.

I just got a new ipod but it wont sync music only apps.

I just got my new iPod a month ago and it worked fine a few days untill... poof... it no longer synced music. so i thought maybe i need to upgrade iTunes to the new version and so i did. BBUUTT...... what i didnt know was that i had to format my ipod so iwas like alright who cares ill get my stuff back ( yeah right.) now only the apps sync but not all of them so.. someone... anybody PPLLEEAASSEE help me and i also need to know if i can recover erased data.

iPods and other iDevices are not backup or storage devices.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder (and all other desired data) from the old computer to the new computer.

New ipod touch is locked up after sw update 5.1 fail

new ipod touch came today, turned it on and completed the steps and connected to my wifi ok. then plugged to usb and computer (win xp) and started itunes. first messsage wanted to select sync options- picked music and got the message that my library was to big for the ipod touch, next i noted that the itouch was named "administrator" because i missed that on the first step. clicked on the "administrator" name and changed it. about then a pop appeared and suggested that i update sw to 5.1. ok, start download and soon it fails with network error. tried again and same failure. left it alone while doing other things and came back, plugged in and got message that device needed to be restored. tried that two times and fail both times with unknown error 1604. now ipod touch is not working at all. when it is plugged into computer the ipod touch has a display of usb plug pointing to itunes icon. device dosn't appear on itunes or windows xp. tried the reset button combo. upgraded to latestet itunes sw and rebooted computer. still dead. i'm going to send it in to apple unless someone has a better idea.

Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode,put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

New Ipod Touch 64GB failed due to freezing Itunes upgrade

I uninstalled itunes to attempt to re-install version 10.2 as required for my new Ipod. Each time it freezes at 10% Prior to this, all other Ipods were funstioning properly. Mssg read iTunes64setup.exe fails---always at 10%.
System restore was ineffective as well. My entire library si, of course, gone.
How can I get Itunes re-installed? I have never had a problem before and have dozens of movies, books and music. Any guidance is appreciated. Thought I would check with some better experienced people before I really screw things up even more. Is it possible that all my purchases are now gone forever?

If the iPod came with iOS 5 you can activae/set it up via wif. From the Users Guide:
Setting up iPod touch
To set up and activate iPod touch, just turn it on and follow the onscreen instructions that step
you through the setup process, including:
Connecting to a Wi-Fi network

Setting up iCloud
Â
Turning on recommended features such as Location Services and Find My iPod

If not iOS 5 you ned to connect it to a computer with internet access and iTunes.

I do not understand why my 4GB nano stats that there is only 781MB available when I no music or pictures loaded??? How do I fix this?

Restore the iPod. That should get you the 3.7GBs of usable space back.
