My Bridge is Badly Broken

Mac OS X 10.6.7; creative Suite CS5; Bridge 4.0.4.2
Bridge is behaving very strangely-- basically broken.
I have tried holding the option key down on boot and reset everything. But it does not help.
Here are the specific symptoms.
-- If I drag a folder of images onto the bridge icon, it take forever to load as long as 2 minutes.
-- if I click on the left folder panel on a local folder like "Pictures" it will take forever. Meanwhile any attempts to touch the screen fail. I cannot change the position of the sliders between panels or click on any other folders, basically the whole interface is non-responsive to any mouse down or mouse up events.
-- Meanwhile I *am* able to use the menu items... e.g. --> Window --> uncheck panels.. example uncheck the collections or filter panels ( I generally run with just the favorites, folder, path bar, preview and content as I don't need all the other "stuff" to get work done. But when I uncheck the items, the contents of the panels disappear but the tabs "Filter | Collections | Export" do not go away... they remain on screen.
-- finally the images in my Pictures folder appear and if I click on a sub-folder , again Bridge takes forever....
-- when images appear now the screen starts to break up... I haved partial images of previous contents underneath and images of the subfolder appearing on "split" screen on top. i.e. Bridge is not updating the video display correctly.
-- I try to resize the window to force a screen refresh... instead the resize icon attached to the lower right corner disappears.
-- leave Bridge for a while, have a meeting or talk to an associate.. come back.. Bridge finally updated the screen. I try a resize... images are all split up again with screen "slices" on top of each other.
This is sad, Bridge has become a very important tool for and now it is completely broken. We use Microsoft's Expressions but it lacks a lot of key features that I use in Bridge (Dr. Browns scripts!).

OK I finally have a recipe for and it's really wierd...the CPU is very quiet... lot's of space there and I have quit all other programs...
It appears to be some kind of a screen update issue. any action I take results in "nada" nothing happens... but as soon as I click cmd-shift-4 to take a screen shot and start to marquee the area... Amazingly the results of the last action start to appear underneath my marquee.. and then when I let go, the Bridge interface snaps instantly to what I would have expected to see. This is consistent... if I grab the resize pane control to make the folders pane wider.. nothing happens... but as soon as I take a screen shot, the Bridge window updats and the panes are resized. If I click on a folder inside the content pane that I know has photos in it... nothing happens, but as soon as I use either Apple's cmd-shift-4 option OR Skitch ( a screen shot program) as soon as I begin to marquee the area to take the screen shot, the screen updates. Oddly switching back and forth between Bridge and any other program does not cause the Bridge screen to update. Only an action that tries grab a rect on the screen to save, causes Bridge to update.
I thought this might be related to my new 27" apple "cinema display" monitor... but I get the same behavior if I unplut the big monitor and run bridge on my 17" macbook pro.
So: Bridge *is* in fact responsive immediately to the actions I am taking on the GUI, but it is not updating the video board. And, for reasons I don't understand... accessing a screen shot program will immediately cause the screen to update.
so, a bit of a hack but I can continue working... taking a screen shot after every action in Bridge... to keep moving...

Bridge is now broken.

I'm trialling CS6 in Windows7 64bit. Initially was working OK including Bridge. Bridge is now broken - File>Browse in bridge = blank window. File>Browse in Minibridge tell me it's wating for Bridge. CC dashboard tells me all uptodate and green ticks. Have tried unistall/reinstall and no change. . Strangely in Program list in Control panel all Adobe progs are listed except Bridge. I have no idea what brought this about - suspect it may be an update?

In short No - but I don't seem to have that option (I had seen a suggestion
somewhere to do that) - but I don't have a separate icon for Bridge to
start - the only Bridge option is only within the CS6 drop down menu
(File>Browse in Bridge). It does not seem to feature as a separate program
except in the Cloud dashboard

PS CS5 Printing on Win7x64 still badly broken

The latest update to Bridge seems to have reverted Photoshop's printing to the nearly unusable state it was in when it originally shipped.
As of that update, I can access the Print Settings dialog exactly ONCE per image. Further attempts to open the dialog result in
And if you dismiss this dialog and try to print, the settings will have reverted to letter-size paper. Once you see this error you must close and reopen the image in order to be able to print it.
It's also back to forgetting most print settings. If you open several images in PS you will have to configure the printer settings for each one instead of PS carrying over the current settings like it used to.
This was broken when PS CS5 shipped, was slightly improved in the first update, and is now back to almost non-functional.
Adobe, can we PLEASE have a fix for this?

I saw the Bridge 4.0.4 updates pending... Since I don't use Bridge, I thought at first perhaps I should avoid installing these updates entirely, but I wondered whether components of Photoshop proper might be affected. Per your post Jim, they DO seem to have done something that affects Photoshop in an update of what sounds like a completely separate component.
However, I just tried some prints after seeing your post and (thankfully) I'm not seeing anything like what you are with my old HP printer. And (whew) my color is still coming out right as well. Apparently it's not an across-the-board problem.

Bridge CS6 bad preview after adjustment in Adobe Camera Raw 7.0

Hi,
when i update camera raw from 6.5 to 6.6 the preview can`t give me right preview only after 1 or more adjustments in adobe camera raw (yes, "Always High Quality"and "Generate Preview-Size Previews").
Image apears and stays like when we open it in camera raw in the first few seconds with the yellow exclamation mark.
Months ago the only solution i found after several reinstals of phoshop, was to turn back to camera raw 6.5.
Now im trying beta bridge cs6 and problem come back for me again.
I use Nikon D3x with 14 bits ~49MB .nef files with Windows 7 64 bits .
Is any one have same problem?And why only in 6.6 (and new camera raw 7.0) and not in 6.5?

When I saved a image to my desktop and wanted to open in Preview so I could do some altra fast tweeks like add sepia and then resaved it came up that I didn't have aothourization to save changes. I then as suggested went to finder - get info - and unlocked the file and entered the desktop password when prompted and closed but it still won't save the changes. I don't want to change it to open as a PS file because it is a JPEG and takes allot of effort when preview cnages under tools color is so efficient. Other suggestions to try?

Videos app is badly broken

Has anyone else experienced this?
On my home iTunes server, I have about 40 or so seasons of different tv shows. Maybe 10 of them are from iTunes, but most have been ripped from my DVDs. In previous versions of iOS if I remotely connected to my server (wraith), I could see the different seasons, tap them, and see the episodes fine. Now, with iOS 5, if I tap 'wraith' then tap 'TV Shows' I get a list of about the right number of seasons, but it's the same dozen seasons over and over again. So I'm fine if I want to watch South Park or Breaking Bad, but if I want to watch any of my other shows I can't get to them via iPad.
I updated everything, just to be safe, but no change of behavior.

This has caused many users quite a bit of confusion since Apple introduced this "streaming" feature in iOS. The fact is that once you start to "stream" a video on the iPad, you have to totally download it in order to be able to delete it.
I put streaming in quotes because the videos are not really being streamed once you click on the cloud icon. They are actually being downloaded to the device and until you finish the download process, you cannot delete them.
GIve it a try. Finish downloading one of the videos and then see if the Edit button appears for you.

The terrible "?"-LR vs. Bridge-how bad is it dr.?

I am using 10.4.1 Tiger on a Mac Pro. When using Bridge I got in the habit of moving files from storage on my internal or external drives onto my desktop-main drive to work on them and then back into storage on the internal HD when I was thru. I thought I would be able to do the same with LR2, or LR would be able to actually track the move but that doesn't seem to be the case. Even when I move the files back onto the main drive, LR still can't find them.
This is a 2 part question.
1. Is there anything I can do to "find" these files and reopen them with all my "developments" intact
2. If I moved the files from my main HD to an internal HD by exporting them via LR and then deleted the files on the main HD, would I then be able to export them back to the main HD to upload to my online gallery or work on them again?

Help me explain to my bosses why PC bridging is bad !

At my company we have a lot of wireless broadband connections that users can connect to from their laptops, whilst also being connected to the corporate network. The broadband connection is natted, but thats the only security there is.
I'm trying to convince my bosses that this is bad, but need seem examples of how this can make the network vulnerable.
I'm not a security guy, but I can see how this could be a problem.
Could some of you experts out there give me some ammunition to fire at my bosses please ?

What do you mean "other than through the PC"? I mean, that's really the whole issue. A PC is just a few clicks away from becoming a router. You're network path used to look like this:
Internet<->Firewall<->Proxy<->Notebook
Now it looks like this:
Internet<->Firewall<->Proxy<->Notebook<->Wireless<->NAT gateway<->Internet
Because of mobility, notebooks often present other challenges as well. IME, they are not patched as timely as regular workstations. They are used away from work and in hostile environments, like hotels and airports, and tend to get infected with malware more frequently (i.e. surfing higher risk sites when I'm at the hotel...porn).
If I gain access to the wireless network, I would typically have unfiltered access to any nodes on the wireless network. In your scenario, that includes those higher risk notebooks which are also directly connected to your internal network (i.e. I completely bypasses all those carefully implemented firewalls and proxy servers you mention). If I can compromise one of those hosts, then I will likely have full network access to your internal network.

Not really Badly Broken iPod Touch 5th Gen Pink 32GB

So i've got an iPod Touch 5th Gen Pink 32GB, No Warranty and it was damaged not really badly, It has a Dent backing near camera, Screen not working but it opened when it drops. So what should i do? does Apple will give you a refurbished one or something? and how much will it cost in Australia?

Accidential damage is not covered under warranty. Apple will still replace your iPod (with a refurbished one) but you will have to pay for it.

And a formidable beast it is. But I'm finding that both 1.5.beta1 and 1.4.2 are segfaulting with alarming regularity.
As a matter of face, they're basicly useless. So the real truth is that I'm working on a $5000 Xserver, using it as
a dumb client, and sshing to my old athlon box to actually use the jdk/eclipse.
But I thought ... what the hell? I'm a programmer. I fix things. I'll fix it.
I cannot seem to find the 1.5 source to save my life. Or to save my productivity. This seems absurd, since the
time you really want people fixing your code is when it's in beta. What gives? Have the gods gone crazy?

There's probably nothing wrong with the $5000 X-server
since all it does is display the output of a program
running on your other computer. I've never had Java
1.4.2 actually segfault though, just freeze sometimes.
Maybe there's a problem with something else on your
Athlon box, or with Eclipse (especially if it's not a
stable release).The sad thing is that the other computer, though it ran
fine in it's day, has nowhere near the power of the new
amd64 box ... but I can't get the jdk stable enough to
develop with on the amd64.

Not a question, statment: i just updated to the latest you guys have. i had to use EXPLORER to post this. it is so badly broken i can no longer use it on my alienware. everything goes black, i cant scroll the page, NOTHING WORKS ANYMORE

Search using Google engine is badly broken

Starting just an hour or so ago, I am unable to use the search window on the right to get results when Google is selected as the search engine.
I type in a search term and I am directed to a blank google search page. I have to type in the search term again, then I see a list of "hits". But when
I click on one of these hits I am not directed to the URL displayed.
I have quit out of Safari and relaunched. I have rebooted my Mac. Neither changes the problem...
This is a Google problem: I have the same symptoms when I use Safari on Windows XP. When I switch the search engine to Bing, the problems go away, for both platforms
Has Google been hacked? Is this a Google attack on Safari?
How can I enter GoGoDuck as a search engine choice?

Mavericks Safari 7 is badly broken - Help!

Since updating to Mavericks the version of Safari installed, 7.0 (9537.71), is behaving absolutely terribly.
Preferences menu will not load unless selected several times.
Page loading is crawling.
Some pages where I manually type the url will not load at all.
Back/Forward buttons do not work.
Open link in new tab doesn't work.
Open link in new window doesn't work.
Extensions downloaded do not appear in the Extensions pref page (though the components are in the requisite folder).
Numerous crashes and non-response glitches.
This very, very buggy version of Safari has made this update of OS X the worst I've ever experienced.
Is there a way of doing a clean install of Safari 7 or the entire Mavericks update from Mountain Lion 10.8.5?

I figured out my same problem! I had Glims installed. If you do also, try this.

After you mount it, and click the uninstaller, it says it won't work because it's an unidentified developer. So you have to right click and do Open, and then it will give you the option to open.
After I uninstalled it, Safari 7.0 works fine!

App Store security badly broken w ios 6.0.1

Updated Ipad 2 to ios 6.0.1
Now the app store application cannot download and install apps over the air. Repeatedly requests new security questions. After answering questions and clicking done results in session timeout; cannot connect to Apples server. Doesn't matter who's dns I've configured. Trying to disregard security questions, the app store simply times-out.
Called apple support and tried their default solution, resetting. pffft, no dice. This is a problem with Apples release of 6.0.1. Discussions indicate this to be a fairly widespread problem.
Apple: your lame non-attempt to inform users, including your own support, are really really weak.

Photobooth 4 badly broken

Something has been bugging me quite a bit with Lion.... we've now had a 10.7.1 update and still the issue exists.
The active backgound has always been an issue in previous versions of Photobooth but with Photobooth 4 the issues have gone from the sublimely awful to the ridiculously awful. The bit where you "Step out of the picture".....
I am not capable of time travel yet so there is no chance I'm ever going to be able to capture a photo of my little daughter with one of the active backdrops involved. I choose the wallpaper and have something like a nano second to step out of the picture before the image registers... and of course if I take a photo all I get is the backdropmmm Terrrible!
Not sure where to submit a bug report so I can only hope the apple dev team somehow get made aware of this issue and fix it!
Other than this I can live with Lion. A few little issues here and there but this one is a biggie!
Imagine trying to demo photobooth 4 in an applestore to sell a new Mac Pro and all of a sudden, uh-oh.....

Fred: I thought I was the only one having this problem as I had posted this issue quite some time ago, and no one even bothered to view it, no less answer it. Not knowing that this was an endemic problem I tried to fix it by deleting the .plist. This did not help, so I reinstalled the application. I had tried to uninstall it, but was unable to do so, as a message appeared saying that the app. could not be modified because it was necessary to the OS. To add to the misery, the first page of the effects does not work either. I'm still looking for a fix, and hope someone sees your posting, as it is much more recent than mine. I'll be following this thread to see if anyone has a solution. I thought the 10.7.1 update would have addressed the problem. If it has not already been done, the problem should probably be submitted to Apple via Feedback.
