My brother's play counts by mistake!

I wanted to recharge my brother's ipod touch but i forgot that he already synced it to my itunes, and now i have his play counts added to mine, and there some songs that are played 2500 times !!
is there any way i can get my old play counts back??
p.s. i still have the real play counts on my ipod. is there any file i can use?
thank you in advance..

Connect it to the computer with your library and sync it.
If you are sharing a computer, hold SHIFT while launching iTunes and point iTunes to the library for yourself, then connect the device and sync.

  • ITunes Inaccurate Play Counts

    Hey guys-
I've been having a lot of trouble syncing my music library to my new 128GB iPhone 6. One of the latest problems is that after syncing (normally unsuccessfully), my  device syncs ridiculously high play counts to my iTunes library.
For example, I added a new song to my library on 10/09/14 and only played it once in my car. When I synced my iPhone this morning, the song had 28 plays. I know for a fact that this song only played once in total. About 30 songs have had their play counts dramatically inflated (25-60 plays).
I rely heavily on play counts for smart playlists and ratings. Now I have about 30 songs with play counts higher than some of my favorite songs which were added years ago. I assign ratings based on plays too so suddenly songs I added over the week were now 5 star songs with only 1-5 legitimate plays.
Any idea what is causing this?? It's threatening the integrity of my entire iTunes library.. Please help!!
    MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
    iTunes 11.4 (18) (64 bit)
    iPhone 6, 128GB (iOS 8.0.2; 12A405)

I have the same problem like you. iMac with Yosemite and iPhone 6. A song, added 2 months ago has 205 counts. Other songs I have for years ago have only 80 counts. And there are other songs, where the same thing is happening. And its starts mixing up everything at my library -.-
Today I talked to Apple Care at the phone. He never heard of that problem. And talked with a colleague. Result: Nothing. He can not promise, that a future update either of Yosemite (e.g.10.10.1) or iTunes will solve the problem.
He talked about editing the itunes library.xml document. However, I have to do this on my own because Apple doesn't provide this solution. And if that helps: Nobody knows. Since I am not an expert, i can't do that.
Other options: A new library or reseting al counters.
All in all: No solution that helps.
I may start reseting some of the counters that are most crazy, and hope for an effective update. (Sorry for potential english mistakes )

  • Play count and last played features do not update

The play count and last played features do not update when syncing my 7th gen nano but still operate wit my 5th gen nano. I cannot find any way of changing  the preferences to do this with the iPod connected to the computer. Any ideas?Play count

I am having the EXACT same problem with my Ipod! I still have yet to figure out how to fix it, but my brother (who knows everything about ipods), has yet to figure out what is making this happen.

  • Play Counts have gone crazy

I am not sure what has happened but sometime over the past few weeks my play counts have gone crazy. I have songs that are reporting a play count of between 265 and 769. Obviously these are not even close to correct (especially since the next closest number is like 20). Is there any reason this might have happened? Is there any way to correct this information without resetting the play count for those tracks completely?
    Thanks!

Many thanks again.  I do not understand the concept of 'using the script' on the page you refer me to: I am not terribly technical!  Basically, I don't understand the comment 'Save the text of this file and add the extension .js and put it in your script folder and run the script in Window > Utilites > Scripts >'  How do I save the 'text of this file', and does this refer to everthing that is in the box, beginning '//blind Open' and ending '}'?  What is my 'script folder' and how do I find it?  Is this a folder in InDesign, or Windows (I'm running Windows 7, 64bit).
I did try to open the 124 byte file (sorry, I said 124 KB by mistake), and got an error message that it could not be opened.  Also, as a check I exported a much smaller file (1244 KB, as opposed to the 'problem' file, which is 5668 KB), and the resulting file was 48 KB.
Thank you again for trying to help!

  • New iTunes zeroing Play counts?

Immediately after I installed the new iTunes, I noticed that the play counts on about 3% of my music library had been reset to zero. There was apparently no rhyme nor reason - new songs, old songs, different genres. I informed Apple through the `feedback on iTunes' menu item, and studiously set about trying to adust those play counts manually, to better reflect how often I had listened to the 700+ songs involved.
Imagine my dismay when I realized in the last day or two that this was not a one time occurrence! That is, the number of songs with a zero play count has increased by 50 per cent in three or four days, to over 1000 songs. Needless to say, I will quit trying to recreate play counts, as it is clearly a losing battle. Count me as another dissatisfied customer of this iTunes update.
If this is also a problem for you, would you please notify Apple officially? That way, maybe they will fix this problem in the hoped-for fixed version of iTunes. Thank you.

  • I had to install a new hard drive because my old hard drives boot files became corrupted, and i want to get all of my music files off the old hard drive and regain all my play counts/ratings/playlists

    Greetings everyone
as the title says, ive had to install a new hard drive  and i want to transfer my old itunes library onto the new drive, maintaining all playlists/play counts/ratings etc, album artwork if possible. The old hard drive is installed as a slave drive and is completely acessible, but due to the boot files being corrupted i cannot use it as the main drive and therefore operate my old itunes. Also, my ipod no longer contains my music library as itunes synced without my permission and wiped it.
The only thing i have tried is copying all of my old music files from the old drive by selecting 'add folder to library' and then the old drive, then replacing the new itunes library.itl file with the one from my old itunes. This restores all my playlists and playcounts but when i try to play any of the songs it says that the files could not be found, and i dont fancy locating  8500 music files individually!
Thankyou for taking the time to read my post, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ah, my reply was based on the assumption that you had a default installation of iTunes.
i.e you had all your music in the iTunes media folder inside your iTunes folder.
If your iTunes folder is so small compared to the amount of music you have, you must have a different arrangement.
    This complicates you situation considerably.
iTunes can cope with moving around as long as all the music is in the iTunes media folder, not not if it isn't.
Your first step should be to get iTunes working on the old drive. This will involve editing the xml library file so that the drive letter is correct and then rebuilding the library from the xml file.
Then you will need to consolidate your library which moves everything into the iTunes media fodler. After that you will be able to use my first suggestion.
    Step 1
Find the iTunes folder on the old drive and copy the two library files somewhere else so you can find them again. That's iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml.
Now open the copy of iTunes Library.xml with WordPad.
    Look for lines starting:
    Location
These contain the paths to tracks.
You will need to use a find/replace to change the drive letter so that it is correct.
Make sure that you include enough in the "find" so that you only change the right thing.
Maybe /c:/ and replace with /d:/ or whatever.
After that, tell iTunes to use the library on the old drive with a shift key start.
Hold down the shift key and start iTunes, keep holding the shift key until you are prompted to choose a library. Navigate to the iTunes folder on the old drive and choose iTunes Library.itl.
    Then use the method in the following article to rebuild your library;
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
Unfortunately the date added will be today for all tracks.
If iTunes works correctly after this, consolidate your library
    File>>Library>>Organize>>consolidate
This copies all tracks into to iTunes media folder and could create a problem if you do not have disk space so don't do it if you are unsure about free disk space.
Check that iTunes works OK and then use the first method.

  • Moving iTunes From PC to Mac keeping play counts etc.

I am trying to move my iTunes from a PC ( XP ) to a Mac ( OS X ). I have moved the entire iTunes folder which contains the XML file and music folder to the mac using an external hard drive. The PC was consolidated before the copy. On the Mac I found and replaced the PC file location to Mac file location (text editor). I then corrupted the iTunes Library.itl ( I believe that was the file). I Then dragged the edited XML file into iTunes without opening it (dragged it over the icon on the dock). It then started to rebuild the library. I thought i worked great. Which it did.
Problem: I am missing about 400 out of 3000 songs. There is no reference in the Mac iTunes XML. The Library is 32GB. I have all the movies, which is a large chunk of that. It is very very important that i keep the data related to those song ( play counts, ratings... ).
The songs are in the iTunes Music folder

  • Play count on one song didn't register today?

    Hello,
Play counts are very important to me for a few reasons, but today I listed to the same song at least 4 times today at work and when I synched my iPod with iTunes the song said "Last played - 7/5/07" when clearly that isn't the case. I do know that you have have to let the song play all the way through as i've been using an iPod/iTunes for a few years now, but it's this one song that didn't work (at least, I think it's only the one - if I can remember what I played today correctly). So, first thing I did was unplug my iPod, play the song again, and synched it with iTunes - and it worked. So what could have happend today? This happend with my 20GB iPod color I keep in the car - I usually only update the play counts and iPod itself once a month, and the last time I brought it in, I couldn't see anything that played at the times I would have been using it (while driving). Lately that one has been fine though as i've kept an eye on it. I do know that if I play a song at a later date or time on the other iPod it would wipe out the play I would have had in the car (not the number of plays, but the last time).
Any ideas? Suggestions? anything would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
I'm using the latest version of iTunes also, if that helps.

Prior to syncing today, is there any chance that you went into iTunes and changed anything about the tag for this song? It would have had to have happend prior to today's sync, but after the sync prior to that.
If you do anything to a song's tag in your iTunes library (like adding artwork, updating artist or album name, add lyrics, etc.) then your iPod will not update the playcount of that song on your next sync to the library.

  • How can I import playlists, ratings, and play counts from an old iTunes library into a new one?

After reading countless threads re: how to get the iTunes artwork screensaver to work, I decided to delete my iTunes library file and reimport all of music which resulted in fixing the iTunes artwork screensaver.  Unfortunately (and expectedly), my playlists, playcounts, and other information were lost with the creation of a new library.  Is there any way to import the playlists, ratings and play counts for my music from an old library file to my current one?  I realize this may be complex, but I'm up for the task.
    Thanks in advance,
    B

I can't begin to describe how frustrating the screensaver issue has been for me (and I suspect countless others, judging by the number of threads on the topic).
I took your advice, though, just to test it.  After backing up my current library.itl, I copied and pasted the old .itl file into its place.  As expected the playlists, play counts, etc were instantly restored.  And now the screensaver fails to work with the dreaded error 'No iTunes artwork found' which makes me think it IS an issue with the old library file.  The only work around I've seen so far is to rebuild the library (which I did).
I'm afraid I'm going to be forced into choosing either a working screen saver or all my itunes data.  Very frustrating indeed.
Here's a link to the 'definitive' fix for the screensaver, if you're interested.

  • How do i transfer library (including play counts etc.) to my new computer?

I want to keep all the info like play counts, what is "checked" and unchecked, and star ratings. This wouldn't happen if i just loaded the songs would it?
My new computer doesn't have iTunes installed yet. I have all the related files from my old computer on an outboard hard drive. All the songs, all the podcsts, and the library file. Pretty much all the data from my section of a shared computer. I also have my iPod which contains most of my library.
How do i go about this? All the music-inclined people said i need other software, but i just want to move my library to my new computer, surely this is a pretty standard thing that iTunes should be able to do by itself?
The new computer is on Vista, i think the old one was windows XP. I got all the data from the old computer about 3 months ago so it's probably from whatever version of iTunes was out then.
Also are there any hurdles to registering my computer to my iTunes account and anything i should do before syncing my iPod to it? (I don't intend to use the old computer again).

See if this helps: Copying personal photos and videos from iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer.
There are several different apps that enable you to easily transfer data such as PhoneDisk, Pod To Mac - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Here adding to the words of “Tim”, a forwarder is a DNS server on a network used to forward DNS queries for external DNS names to DNS servers outside of that network. You can also forward queries according to specific domain names using conditional forwarders.
A DNS server on a network is designated as a forwarder by having the other DNS servers in the network forward the queries they cannot resolve locally to that DNS server. You can refer information regarding forwarders and how to configure from beneath link.

  • Is there any way I can update my play count from my iPod to the same iTunes library on my computer that does not have any play counts?

I recently transferred my data (music, apps, etc.) to a new computer via transferring purchases and Home Sharing and only a few songs had play counts. On my older computer, all the songs had at least some documentation of a playcount. Thinking that I could figure it out, I reset the play count for the songs on the new computer. Is there any way I could get the play counts onto the computer w/out them via iPod or Home Sharing. I look forward to hearing a reply. Thank you.

  • Is there a way to "reset" the games "played count" on the 5th Gen iPod Nano

I was just looking through my new iPod Nano (16 GB), and happened to select
all three games (Klondike, Maze and Vortex), but never played them, just looked and then
quit out of each game. Now I have a "game played" count on all three games.
I'm not sure if I may hang onto this iPod Nano or possibly look into an iTouch.
If I sell this new one on eBay, I would like to know how to reset the "game counts"
back to 0 or the original "default" of no game counts showing.
    Any help would be appreciated.
By the way, why would Apple even need to show a "game played count" on any of
the iPod Nano games ... very weird.

I think the only way you can reset play counts on games is if you do a full restore of the ipod. But, then again, if you plan on selling it on ebay, it'd be probably be best if you do the restore, that way it'd be like opening a brand new ipod for the new owner.
As for why Apple would want to keep track of game counts...I have no idea.

  • Got a new Mac, my iTunes is whack, (No Play Count or Date Added)

Hello, everybody. It's been a rough night.
I currently own a G4 iMac and I just got a brand new Macbook. The Macbook is very nice, it's extremely speedy and I am sure I will grow to love it. We've got just one hurdle to get through together: the organization of my music in iTunes. Now, I've had the iMac for five years, and not long after I got it adding music to it became something of an importance, it was my music player. Over the past five years I've not only added thousands of songs, but meticulously and very specifically organized them into playlists based on the number of spins they have and when they were added. To a lot of people I know this sort of thing isn't a huge deal, but for me this organization became, and I kid you not, a huge, huge part of my life.
So I get the new Macbook, fire it up and use Migration Assistant, (with the iMac in Target Disk Mode), to move my data over. When it's done I open the iTunes and am greeted with... nothing. Well, okay, all of my music is there, that's nice, (it's what iTunes is for, etc etc), but NONE of my play count or date added information remains. I weep inside.
Being that this is my first new computer in five years, (a long time!), you might be able to tell that I was hesitant about upgrading. Before getting my Macbook I asked experts at the Apple Store if this method would work, and even received assurance from several people online that everything would be preserved. So, I did my homework, but my Macs and I both apparently failed the test. Here's where we are now:
    1. The iMac, (running Tiger), still has iTunes on it, with all the information, nothing seems to have changed on that end.
    2. The Macbook has a hard drive full of music with no playlist, play count or date added data.
    3. I do own an iPod where I backed up the music before the move. I know that the data information on playlists, play count and date added is on the iPod. I do not dare plug it in to the new machine for fear of the unknown.
Which brings me here, is there some way, any way of rectifying this? Here is what I would like:
    1. For the Macbook iTunes to look EXACTLY like the iMac's does.
    2. For it to work with both my old iPods without question.
This has been long, and I fear that some may pass it over as something too much of an banality to be needed help with. But like some collect shoes or hats, I collect music. It's a lovely collection and it's a large part of who I am. I could start all over, but that's sort of like saying the world could start over if it by chance happened to forget how to turn. It would take a lot of effort, and there would be some (more) tears, but I could move on. But I really, really don't want to. I just want things to be the way they were. I'd very much like to have this information present, and I thank you all for your time.

    ADDED:
Now that I look at it, appears that nothing except for my applications transferred over. My old computer is listed in the Hard Drive, but I can't access any of the folders because I don't have that "level of privileges" or whatever, (odd, considering they're both my computers, do they need to be hooked up for this?). I don't really need for my old applications to be there, (Hello, iWork '06 Demo!), so can I just go and erase them, or am I better just starting all over again?

  • Why does the iPad Mini not have music play count?

I bought an iPad Mini and also have a macbook. I had listened to various music on my iPad Mini the other day, however when I connected the iPad Mini to the Macbook and iTunes via the lightning connector to sync, it synced the ratings I gave the songs I listened to on the mini, but no play count, as if I had not listened to anything. I hope there is something I can do about this as I often look at my play count!!

It should work work but these kind of bugs pop up between updates, both hardware and software. Try closing all apps in the recently used list on the iPad. Double tap the Home button, tap and hold one of the icons at the bottom till they wiggle then tap the to close them. Tap the Home button to get back to the Home screen then hold the sleep button till you see the slide to power off message. Once it has powered down completely hold the Sleep button till the Apple icon appears.

Nov 18, 2012 11:34 AM (in response to Katrina UK)
    Does it even really matter...?
Many people including myself rely on playcounts to control smart playlist to manage large libraries. Smart playlists can be created to show your most or least played tracks and used more or less as your favorites or other uses. Along with playcounts the date is transferred so to keep a fresh list of music on my smaller iPods a smart playlist set to songs not played in the last month keeps some fresh tunes on it.
Playcounts are also used to manage Podcasts in iTunes to delete older episode. Bookmarks, which can also be effected by this, can mess up audiobooks, movies and podcast playback between different devices. So yes, it does matter.
