hi need help my browser in locked cant quit safari or shut down my macbook pro it says all my data has been detained an they want £300 to sort it out i know this is a virus but dont know how to get rid of it i have a free version of avast but it doesnt work please can anyone let me know what software i need a where to get it from

This IS NOT a virus if you see it on a Mac. Not a virus by definition - not even a browser hijack.
I found with this garbage one day last month in Firefox on my Mini. I was able to close the window because I use several popup and ad blockers which, after the second attempt to keep me on the page allowed me to disable any further popups.
I downloaded the page and ALL associated files. Here's what I found:
1. The offending page with a link to an inaccessible PHP script that sends your MoneyPak info IF you believe and fall for the scam
2. A CSS file
3. An "images" folder containing all the "official" looking graphics.
4. 154 separate copies of the "popup" javascript that generates the "Are you sure... etc" and "YOUR BROWSER HAS BEEN LOCKED... etc" popups.
Just for kicks, I reopened the page with the popup blocker disabled and went through ALL 154 of the popups until the page finally closed. Then I cleared my history and reloaded it. It started again but the popup blocker "killed it" after three attempts.
I'm sure there are several versions of this out there, and whoever designed the one I found did a pretty elaborate, but shoddy job. It relies on people "giving up" before they reach the last of the scripts, but it's all javascript and really pretty funny, UNLESS of course, you fall for it and waste $300.

Acrobat Std v9.5 browser session locks up past 2nd page

I updated to v9.5 Acrobat Std. yesterday (from v9.45 --> 9.46 -->9.47 to 9.50).
I opened a PDF linked inside a webpage to a new tab (using 32 bit IE9). The webpage PDF opens fine. But when I scroll to the second page (which is black), the browser session locks up (including all open tabs). I have to use Task Manager to kill the particular non-responsive IE9 session (i.e., other, independent IE9 browser sessions do NOT lockup, and do remain running when I kill the errant session ...just guessing, but the non-locked up sessions may be an artifact of independent memory spaces from using W7 64 bit).
I tried this several times, opening a new browser session each time, trying to view the document past the first page (and if I do not scroll to the second page, the session does not lock up), and the lockup happened each time (i.e., the error is duplicable).
Testing, I opened another new session, clicked on the PDF link and chose to Save As, and placed the document on my desktop. It downloaded almost instantly, and opened just fine (and I was able to read the entire 7 pages of mixed texts & charts).
I did not experience this problem with Acrobat v9.45, ever ...and yes, I use that feature often (so I would have known if there had been an issue). I never really tested the issue under Acrobat v.9.46/9.47 (I didn't open those versions at all ...I was doing Adobe updates manually as per my usual routine, and generally follow the sequential order "just in case").
...and if no one can point me to a solution, then I suppose I'll have to try removing the update (if that's possible), or deleting Acrobat 9 (after deactivating the license - I read within this forum that you can do that, if you need to uninstall for some reason) and re-installing Acrobat 9.0 from scratch (I'd really rather not do that, but if that's what it takes).
NOTE: I do not have Adobe Reader installed. My OS is Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) w/8GB of RAM, and Intel Core 2 Quad. My preferred browser is IE9. All software and OS patches are current [to-the-version]. I'm an experienced user (20 years plus as a systems administrator); and non-gamer (i.e., malware free). This is a work box (primarily used for client remote support).

In reference to this change in the Custom Reports... Better experience when exporting data - to prevent customer confusion when exporting data from Mac computers, we have removed the export to excel option and exporting in CSV format by default.
What is the customer confusion we are trying to stop here? I've got even more confused customers at the moment because all of a sudden they can't find the export to excel option but know it exists if they log in on a PC?

I have never set-up a master password for firefox. Somehow the browser to locked mode, now, and requests a master password. How can I get it to unlock?

There is no URL line, into which anything may be entered.
Also, I reinstalled the program as well. No change. Still defaults to a request for a password THAT I HAVE NEVER CREATED.
Full disclosure: I reached to reconnect a cable, and pressed my chest against my keyboard, while the computer was in sleep mode, with Firefox running in the background. When I stood, the browser was locked. I've tried all passwords I know, and use. No luck. The following addy will not load, even if entered into home page.

When i right-click and select 'view image info', that info box and browser window lock up, have to manually close firefox to reinstate the browser

After completing my upgrade to Adobe Reader 11.0.10 When I attpemt to use "Tools/File/File Save As" from IE 11 I get a "Adobe Reader is not Responding" and my browser is locked up.

After completing my upgrade to Adobe Reader 11.0.10. when I attempt to save an online PDF to my local drive I receive a blank window where I would expect to see file directory structure to save to.
No local directories are displayed for "Saving To", it is all blank. When I try to Close (by clicking X) the "File Save As" box a message pops up on top that says "Adobe Reader is not Responding" It locks up all of my IE windows, not just the one with the PDF doc.
I then need to go Task Manager and stop the IE task. All my browser windows are then closed.
That is the only way to recover from the "Adobe Reader is Not Responding" message.
This was not happening in previous versions of Reader.
Tolls/File/File Save As always worked properly.
I have installed IE 11 (11.0.9600.17690)

Browser is locking up after 3.6.10 update, becomes unresponsive except to close however then requires a system reboot to work again.

Browser seems to lock up when left idle for a few minutes. Was not acute after 3.6.10 update but it has now become chronic. Browser will close when prompted however any other commands fail. Once browser is closed it will not open. Will only open once they system is rebooted.
All updates for windows vista are current
All MSE Virus updates are current and clean scan
All Malwarebytes are current with clean scan
All Regcure are current with clean scan
Only recent change was I was unable to use windows update and it required tech support with microsoft and I had to make a few registry corrections at their request. Problem resolved. Unknown what caused that error as I am not tech savvy.
I have had some malware alerts and what not but all were caught and addressed by the various alerting software. Least that is what I am left to believe.

While posting this question I was using Firefox...was prompted to check my email, thunderbird, to confirm the post. Opened the email and clicked on the link and since firefox is my default browser, it would not open. Once again had to reboot in order to get firefox to work again. Using it right now but for how long before the next lockup, I don't know.

YouTube page causes my Safari browser to lock up.

When I run my Safari browser and then click on my YouTube bookmark, I'm transferred to the YouTube page and my Safari brouwser locks up. I'm not able to select any music/video files to play, the mouse is paralyzed, and I can't transfer out or quit the YouTube page. The only way I get out of this condition is to turn off the computer manually and do a power reboot. Any idea what can be causing this condition? I'm running the latest version of Safari and Mountail Lion 10.8.2.

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

Help, web browser is locking up my 8320!

So I have no clue whats going on. I was in the webbrowser trying to figure out how to organize my bookmarks. I never actually got a chance to do anything other than access the help on the phone for how to delete a bookmark. I exited out of the help screen, and the broswer closed. When I started the browser up again, I got just a white screen with the following error message coming up in a dialog box:
Uncaught exception: invisible node cannot be made current
There is an "ok" botton under that, but I can't click it to clear the screen. Eventually it exits to the desktop of the phone, but the error message is still displayed. Seem the only way to clear this message is to remove the battery and reinstall it. But it only works until I try the web application again. HELP!!!

Help my safari web browser has been hijacked by some type of malware. My browser is locked in on a web page that pretends to be from the FBI. Is there security software I can purchase to eliminate this malware?

I am not sure if this is the correct forum but I had these bastards who have stolen my web browser. Natually they ask me to send them monies to unlock my browser. It is a dangerous place out there. I would appreciate any recommendations as to possible security software to remove this malware will be much appreciated

Any way to enlarge fonts etc in browser and lock them that way?

I like safari and all, but on many sites including this one the fonts are too small for my tired eyes, so I always pinch/spread to make the text bigger. Might like to be able to increase the size of the fonts as on usually can wi a browser, but can't find it on iPad?
Any ideas? Is it trivial and I just missed that day?

There is no fix with MobileSafari because it doesn't let you apply your own font sizes. Well-designed web sites should have mobile options and/or font size options from within the site. Some sites just release custom apps that only surf their site with appropriate font sizes. Unfortunately, the Jive software that Apple uses for Apple Discussions has none of those.

Browser control locks up in XP not in Vista for Adobe 9

I have installed Adobe Reader 9 and when we run our internal application that opens a PDF document hosted inside a AxSHDocVw.AxWebBrowser control (basically a form with the WebBrowser control added) - the PDF document displays just fine in both XP and Vista.
However, when the form is closed to return to the main application, XP has issues (the parent is "locked up") and the application has to be terminated in task manager. Vista has no issues. This process has never changed (our code) since Adobe 7. XP users are running IE 7 as well.
Anyone have any suggestions for a workaround? I approximately 3000 workstations to deal with here. :(

Embedded Flash movie locks up Browser

It doesn't seem to matter which of the top three
browsers I use, but most often when you go to
a website page that automatically (or not?)
launches an embedded Flash movie, a little
window pops up inside that embedded movie
asking me to click Allow or Deny.
But NIETHER is clickable, the browser is locked,
nothing can be clicked and ALL other tabs are locked
and cannot be clicked either.
I have to hit CTRL+ALT+DELTE to kills the
browser in Task Manager. .A HUGE annoyance,
that comes unexpectedly because you don't know
when an embedded movie will be on the next page
you click.
How do I stop that Allow/Deny message popping up??

Green screen is usually an indication for some incompatibility with the graphics driver, although turning Hardware Acceleration off should prevent that from happening.

Pop up offerring freebies has locked my browser

Hi
I have iPad mini ios7.4 when browing on Safari i got a pop up offeringa chance to win a new apple product. It has taken over the website I was browsing and locked it. I don't want to click Ok which might unlock it but no doubt infect me somehow. Any ideas on what to do

1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
3. The app will fly off the screen
