My BT address is being spoofed in Yahoogroups

One of my sub addresses is being used to spam in Yahoogroups. I am a Yahoo Moderator in one of the 4 groups Yahoo supports for group owners and moderators. The address was being moderated but a moderator didnt foresee my purpose and approved the post. Nevertheless it notified me that someone is using one of my addresses, which I created for the purposes of my own Yahoo group. I have seen another person using the address since on another occasion. The problem is that in Yahoo groups where I am known, I am afraid that people will think I am a spammer. It has been recognised and identified with me; Moderators of one of the 4 groups. What is the position if Spam Cop or some other similar service gets hold of the address?. Do they check to find out who is actually using it or label it, forever being a spammer's address? The address is one I didnt want to lose since it identifies me and I am attached to it. I have naturally reported it to Yahoo but they cant do anything about it. I found 2 groups where the name in front of my address is posting and notified Yahoo Tech Support. What will BT do when you eventually realise my address is being used to spam people? What do you recommend I do? I hope this message reaches you in approved format, I dont normally use html or rtf
Janet

That is in fact the answer I expected and it is reassuring, somewhat. I am also concerned that spam from a BT internet address might get the address blocked, shut down, whatever, in which case I am reduced to having only 3 other addresses under BT Yahoo!Mail. I migrated to BT only in January 2010 and by March I was getting 75 spam mails a day from a source that was stopped by Yahoo. On reflection, I have had nothing but trouble in comparison with experience with former ISPs. This is not a moan, its a fact; otherwise I am quite happy with the service but the Tech Team as well as its remote assistance leaves a lot to be desired, but that's maybe another thread. One learns by what takes place which is a positive.

  • I am being spoofed - how do I stop it?

My email address is being used (with a different beginning, ie [email protected], or [email protected] instead of [email protected]). I am receiving hundreds of rubbish returned emails that I have never sent from my email account.
How do I stop this? I phoned my server and they said bad luck, nothing they can do. I can't apply a rule in the preferences because it is a different name every time.
Any help? Oh yes, I know where it is coming from but how do I block them.
    Thanks
    Frances

But as the spoofer uses different "names" at the beginning
of my email address, I cannot stop receiving the refused mails
    that rebound to my address.
Since you are receiving bounced/refused emails from the incoming mail server/domain for a number of email addresses indicating a message or messages sent with your email address appearing as the sending email address cannot be delivered for whatever reason, your actual/correct email address is being used by this spammer to appear as the sending email address for these bulk spam mailings or you wouldn't receive these bounced/refused email error messages.
A spammer/sender cannot use a different name at the beginning of your email address (assuming you are referring to the portion of your email address in front of the "@" sign only) or you wouldn't receive these bounced/refused messages.
As previously provided, your email address can only be used as your actual email address, not with a different beginning or anything else different, etc.
One of the reasons you are receiving so many bounced/refused messages is because the email addresses for these recipients probably aren't valid anyway since spammers also guess at email addresses for a domain when sending a bulk spam mailing to email addresses for that domain in the hope that some guessed at email addresses will be valid and get through which is called a "Dictionary" attack by spammers.
I cannot stop receiving the refused mails that rebound to my address.
You are wasting your time with this but if your friend found the culprit which means determining the computer IP address for the spammer who is doing this (btw, many spammers also "spoof" their computer IP address), you will be better served hiring a lawyer and pressing charges against this person than trying to add rules, etc. or doing anything else to prevent these bounced/refused messages. This spammer won't use your email address for long so it will stop soon.

  • Email addresses are being saved as contacts

Every person I email from my desktop (work) computer, their email address is being automatically saved as a contact in my address book. Considering I can email up to 50 new people a day, its becoming very frustrating. Only happened since upgrading to iOS6. I may have changed a setting but I can't seem to locate. Any assistance welcomed.

I assume you are referring to it physically putting another separate contact in Address Book, and not the autofill list when typing an address into a new message window.
Mail does not have an option to add addresses from email to the address book automatically. The fact that you say it happens with the Exchange account and not the other accounts indicates that it's an exchange account problem.
Are you syncing the exchange account contact list with apple's address book? If so, you might take another look to the exchange account for something there.

  • How can the IP-address be faked ('spoofed') when online?

How can the IP-address be faked ('spoofed') when online?

It depends on what you're trying to do.
As mentioned, if you want a response, you have to have a valid IP address so that the remote system knows where to send the reply. If you're trying to hide your real IP address, though, then you can pas your traffic through a proxy server of some kind.
In this setup your machine sends its traffic (e.g. a web page request) to the proxy server. That proxy server then relays the requests on your behalf and the server sees (and replies to) the proxy server's address. The proxy then relays the response back to you.
In this case the remote server sees the proxy's address and not yours. However, the proxy server knows your address and may or may not log it.
There are numerous open proxy servers on the internet - many of them used for nefarious reasons, but they're not hard to find.

  • How do I set up my AirPort Extreme  to provide IP addresses without being connected to the Internet?

II'm trying to set up my AirPort Extreme in the field without an Internet connection so that devises can communicate wirelessly but there aren't any IP addresses being generated

Just run the AE in router mode.. if you have difficult with the setup do it completely manually..
This is how I do it.
Airtport Utility can't find Airport Time Capsule on either of my 2009 Macs
As long as the AE is running in DHCP and NAT mode it will produce IP addresses.. however you cannot turn off WAN.
You could give it a static IP .. so set to static instead of dhcp if you like.. eg.
DNS and WAN errors.. double NAT, Ethernet unplugged, etc.. so it makes no real difference..
The AE will function fine as router (Wireless AP) to your network however..
    Just ignore all the errors.

  • HP office jet 8600, wireless not working, IP address not being recognized

Purchased new HP office jet pro 8600 N911a.  Inserted CD software on relatively new Toshiba laptop using Windows 7, but problem is that printer IP address is not being recognized.  Wireless router is Apple airport extreme.  Have checked various potential solutions, including the following:  deleting software and re-inserting CD, turning off router, computer, printer and resetting, running a wirless network test (no problems found, wireless on and working and connected), ensuring that laptop and printer are on the same wirless network (yes), ensuring that printer IP address is entered correctly, and ensuring that firewall issues are not a problem.  Airport extreme settings show this printer's MAC address as a "wireless client" and its IP address as a "DHCP client"; however, when clicking on the "printers" heading in Airport extreme printers, no printers are listed (this is the pane that shows the USB printers connected to your Airport wirless device). Any suggestions would be appreciated

    Hi,
Why don't you connect the printer wirelessly to your Airport Extreme?
You may do so by clicking the Wireless icon on the printer screen, click Settings and follow the Wireless Setup Wizard to connect the device, then it should recieve its own IP by using the printer capabilities..
If you prefer to use such a Print Server configuration, you may try using a different USB and check if that may help, otherwise I would suggest you to contact Apple as they know their accessories the best..

  • How to stop email addresses from being added to contacts

hofw do you stop email addresses from sent emails from being added automatically to contacts?

No. They are not being created by the phone. They are being created by your mail system, whether that is Exchange, Yahoo, Google, etc. They all have settings to automatically create contacts from people you correspond with. There is no setting on the phone to control this. Check the settings for your mail account with or talk to your IT department.

  • I have been informed that my IP address is being used to illegally download MPAA material.

Yes, I have a WPA password. Now I want to change it. I did go thru the Airport set up for both of my devices: AirPort and AirPortExpress to change my password. It didn't happen. What do I do? How do I figure out why they have information that my address has illegally downloaded TV shows and shared them.
Sorry, they just decided to knock me off the internet until this is sorted out.
    All they have is Me.
    i5 desktop 27; monitor. OSX10.68
    iPad
    iPhone
    MacBook OSX10.68
    3rd Gen iPod

The IP address that they are referring to is, most likely, the one that your ISP has provided you that is on the Public (or WAN) side of your AirPort router. This is either a dynamic or static IP address depending on the type of Internet service you're getting from the ISP.
How this address has been associated with some sort of illegal downloading may be due to, at least, two things: 1) Some form of malware software that has been unintentionally added to one of your computers that is making these requests, or 2) Someone, that has access to your network, is intentionally doing these downloads.
If there is some form of malware present on your Mac, then a utility like Little Snitch or Private Eye, can help you identify the culprit as both of these track what is being sent outbound from your network.

  • Reply-to Address not being Changed as Anticipated

There is an ‘Advanced Options’ tab in the set-up page for BT Yahoo! Mail that has a sub-option ‘Mail Accounts’. I created a new account ‘iCloud Sending’ by filling in the ‘Account Name’, ‘Email address’, ‘Sending Name’ & ‘Reply-to address’ boxes, & followed the authentication process.
When I send an email from my iPhone 4S using iCloud it is correctly routed to its destination via smtp.mail.yahoo.com. However, the BT Yahoo! does not appear to modify the reply-to address from [email protected] to the specified address as I woud have expected. Has anyone else experienced this problem, please?

The iPhone does not support use of the Reply To field. That's why you haven't found an answer.

...it is an extremely common business practice.
I would think not. My employer would certainly have issues with corporate emails being automatically forwarded to a 3rd party mail host like Yahoo or Hotmail. That would likely result in some sort of disciplinary action against the employee. A much more likely 'common business practice' is simply to have the Exchange account directly on the phone. Automatic forwarding (via Outlook left active on a computer, for example) is a common workaround when one's employer does not allow iPhone's to connect to the Exchange server, and as I stated, that probably violates policy at most companies.

  • Text send to email address not being delivered

Can anyone tell me why texts sent from my iphone 4 to my home email address are not being delivered? I like to send reminders of things I need to do from my phone to my email address. Have always been able to do this from other phones I've had but not now with this iphone 4. It saying they were sent but they never show up in my inbox or any other box.

If my reply is being sent as an SMS, what is to prevent the new message from being sent as an SMS?
What prevents the new message being sent as an SMS is that your actually sending an email -- not an SMS, when you initiate a [email protected], that is an email, not an SMS.

And are you aware of a way to send messages of any type to an email address from this model phone without having to have a data plan
Nope, you don't have the data plan. Sorta like refusing to install a trailer hitch on your truck, and then wondering why you can't pull a trailer behind.

  • Mail sent to my .mac address is being returned to sender...

This is truly a mystery to me. Mail being sent to my .mac address from others is being returned as "undeliverable." Moreover, there does not seem to be any clear pattern. I still get messages sent to my .mac account. The messages don't always have attachments. The messages being returned originated as fowarded mail, sent mail and replied to mail.

    Paul,
Since I now know that you are using SpamAssassin (from the Long Headers of your reply to my test message), let me ask if you have checked its settings for any possible block of these senders that are not getting through?

  • Some Addresses not being recognized

    Hi Please help,
I have just switched over from Yahoo to mail, and have been able to send my photos to other Yahoo users but the "mail" will not recognize a lot of my current and "good" addresses to other.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
    Thank You.

Those are the classic symptoms of iTunes being strict/finicky/incompetent (pick your own interpretation) about slight variations in MP3 headers.
Treat the problem files with a 3rd party tag cleanup tool such as MP3 Validator. Then the files will add to iTunes.

  • Gave a PO Box address, but being delivered by UPS

So I pre ordered the new Majora's Mask 3D a while back, and I finally got it to stick without randomly cancelling.
Well, I put a PO box shipping address because it's the only way I can reliably get my mail in middle-of-nowhere Texas and my neighbors aren't very trustworthy. Problem is, when I got my shipping confirmation email a few days ago, my order status on Best Buy's website under my account still says the PO box shipping address, but the tracking number they gave me is for UPS, who cannot deliver to PO boxes, and it says it's being shipped to my home address, which is not good, because not only would I probably not be there when it's delivered during the day, but I also didn't give an apartment number because it was completely unnecessary in what was SUPPOSED to be a PO box delivery.
What gives? What hidden policy did I miss for this to happen? Nowhere can I find a rule stating that video games can't be shipped to PO boxes, and even if they couldn't, shouldn't that automatically cancel my order so I could at least know that I need to order it from somewhere else?

    Hello Arcalithe,

  • Why does my iMac lose its IP Address after being asleep?

It appears that after an hour or so of being asleep my iMac will not reconnect to the wifi internet. When I open the problem it says No IP address but the problem is quickly fixed by going into diagnostics.
I've done all of the updates, I have reinstalled, and I've tried to change my location several times.
    Whats my computers diagnosis?

Hmmm, is this any more than any ISP DNS Server would do? (A much lesser concern, but I have the NoRedirct Add-on in Firefox. When I type in a misspelled URL like nsojs-,gpi-0skf, it goes to Google, not OpenDNS and I have all Google cookies blocked, as well as Google's link tracking redirects, using NoScript.)
Anyway, I've read the ToU and the Privacy Policy. But it's written in obtuse legalese. What I'd really like to know is what they do in practice. FWIW (and maybe not worth that much)
    2) We have never sold, nor do we have any intention of selling any customer data ever. You have completely taken that line from our privacy policy out of context. All that means is that when you click an ad, our advertising partner (Yahoo) will see your IP address and the typo you made that resulted in you seeing the ad you clicked on. Nothing more.

Gen -- We don't do anything with your query history other than pull some stats from them. Moreover, your ISP has a far far more privacy-invasive privacy policy...
And while it's not intended to satiate the tin-foil'ers, we're currently putting together some new features now that will let you turn off all stats collection for your requests. That means we'll bitbucket all your stats and anything even remotely personally identifiable (and not like AOL-style anonymize it, we'll actually get rid of it).
As for being free, EveryDNS.Net is free too and we've been making money for six years. Go figure. :-)
