My camera is stuck on shutter closed, I have followed instructions to reboot, forced the camera to take a photo which appears on my camera roll but the shutter is still showing shut. This is stopping me using FaceTime and Skype anyone help?

All other functionality works fine. The iPod Touch is about 1 year old and suddenly the camera shutter is stuck closed. Tried re-booting by holding down on/off switch and screen button. Result was a reboot to "Apple" symbol, but shutter is still stuck. Anyone experienced this and know how to fix it?

recently recieved a second hand Iphone 4. I was testing the Camera, the rear one worked perfectly fine, however when i pressed the switch button the front facing camera shutter freezed and started flickering. In order to get it back to the rear camera I have to reset my settings. Does anyone know why the front facing camera is doing this and how i can fix it.

You can completely close out of the camera, then do a reset, hold down the home/power button together until yo usee the apple logo and then release, then wait for you phone to boot back up. -
My iphone 4 camera shutter won't open. I have already done a restore and I am using the latest iOS. The front facing camera works during FaceTime but crashes when I switch to rear camera. in Camera mode I can't switch to front camera. I plan on replacing this phone with an iphone 5s when it comes out but I need this phone to work until then.
When you did the restore, did you restore from a backup or restore as new? The final step of user troubleshooting is to restore as a new device, not from a backup. If you restore as a new device and the camera still does not function, it is probably a hardware issue. Make an appointment at the Apple Store Genius Bar and have the device checked by a Genius.

I updated my iphone 4 to iOS 5.1 and now when I go into my camera the camera shutter is stuck closed how do i fix it so i can use my camera again.
What have you done to try and troubleshoot this? Power the phone off/on. If it still is not working, then try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. See if it works after that. Next step if no help is a restore, first from a backup, and if necessary as a new device. Last step is to make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar and have them check for a hardware problem.

Why does the camera shutter stay stuck? The camera won't operate. I've rebooted several times, I've changed settings several times, I've held by finger over each camera as demostrated on a youtube video. Nothing has corrected the problem.

ThanksI'm having the same problem. I can use the camera once, but if I try to open the camera again, the shutter stays closed. The same thing happens when I view photos. I can open the album on my phone once, but not twice. The SAME THING happened just now when I tried to check the photo/camera settings. I opened Settings once, but not twice. AND, any photos I took with my old first gen iPhone are very low quality... sometimes. Not all the time. This is getting out of hand.

I got this phone the other day & my camera was working fine but now the shutter is stuck in the closed postion. If I turn the camera it changes it from portrait to landscape but it will not open. Please help:)

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I have restored my iphone but camera shutter still will not open/work
Try closing the Camera app completely and see if then works when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Camera 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot. -
N8 Camera shutter permanently shut
My N8's shutter is stuck shut. I turn the camera function on and everything loads up BUT, the shutter doesn't open at all. So every picture is complete darkness. I can focus (on pitch black), change all the settings but to no avail. The only thing I see on the screen is total pitch black. The black shutter makes a funny noise and seems to fail over and not open.
I'm sad: please help.
Things I've tried: (1) switch from primary to secondary camera, (2) Use other apps like Qik and Fring, (3) Power the phone on and off.
I think it's hardware-related... booooooo

Go to Solution.My N8 does exatcly the same, the camera software loads and the shutter stays shut. Yet sometimes it works, randomly. Works, then doesn't! All since I did the Anna update last week. Has you problem been solved by sending it off? I am reall trying not to have to send it off, but if I do, how long might it take to come back?
