My Canon EOS is no longer recognized by iPhoto.

I have been using my Canon EOS with my iMac OSX Version 10.8.5 and recently iPhoto stopped recognizing it. I am unable to download photos. I have to copy them from the memory card. At the same time, Dropbox is recognizing them and a window pops up when I plug in my camera and turn it on, asking me if I want to upload to Dropbox.
Has anyone else had this problem? How can I get my Canon EOS recognized by iPhoto again?
Thank you.

Get the photos off of the card and then reformat it using the camera's format command and try again

  • Canon SX260HS no longer recognized by iPhoto

After upgrading to Mavericks my Canon SX260HS is no longer recognized by iPhoto. When plugged in to a USB port the system report shows the camera, but iPhoto does not mount the camera. The camera briefly displays "communication error" on its display.  The SD card can be read by using a standalone card reader attached to another USB port.  Looks like some change to the camera communications in Mavericks is at fault, but other than using a card reader I see no solution.  Help?

Wow. You've answered nearly all the questions I was going to ask. What version QT are you running?
Try logging into another account on your Mac and see if the camera can be recognized there. If it is then there's an issue with your primary account. Also try booting into Safe Mode and again check to see if the camera can be seen in your primary account.
Booting into Safe Mode runs the File System Check (fsck) during the boot and only loads the basic minimum extensions, etc. needed by the system. See What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X). Again this will see if there's something that you've added that is causing the problem.
A workaround until you find a solution is to use a card reader. IMO, it's the best way to upload from a camera.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Sony Cybershot No Longer Recognized in iPhoto

Just did a recent software update that my iBook let me know about this past Saturday. One of those updates I installed involved something to do with importing pictures from cameras. Now, my Sony camera is no longer recognized in iPhoto and I never had any complication with this before the update. Is there a way to reverse the installation of the upgrade or is there a soltuion?
Message was edited by: JC Santos

This sounds more like a software problem than an iBook problem. You might try posting your question in the iPhoto forum where all the smart photographers hang out. They probably have experience in dealing with this sort of issue.
    Good luck!

Re: Trash and Restore FCP 6 Preference Files
by Alan Smith on Sep 18, 2008 at 8:20:00 am
There are four files to trash when trying to trash the preferences.
    workstation>Mac HD>Users>Workstation>Library>Preferences>com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
workstation>Mac HD>Users>Workstation>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data>Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs
workstation>Mac HD>Users>Workstation>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data>Final Cut ProObj Cache
workstation>Mac HD>Users>Workstation>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data>Final Cut ProProf Cache
When you delete these files and restart FCP each of these will be rebuilt.

  • Canon PowerShot S20 isn't recognized by iPhoto

My CanonPowerShot S20 suddenly isn't recognized by iPhoto. I know that the USB port is ok because it will sync with my iPhoto at work. I tried reinstalling iPhoto but that didn't help. Any suggestions?

    You shouldn't need Canon's software.
One easy way to check out your system is to create a new user and try iPhoto there.

  • Canon Powershot S2 IS no longer recognized by iPhoto

I have been unable to get iPhoto to import photos from my Canon S2 IS since the upgrade to 6.0.5. I have tried some suggestions from another thread -- running the 10.4.8 updater again as well as the iPhoto 6.0.5 updater again. Repaired permissions. Restarted of course. Reformatted memory card in camera. Tried different USB ports and cables.
I really don't believe the camera itself is the problem as it does appear on my husband's PowerBook (also running 10.4.8 and iPhoto 6.0.5).
Oh, and the Canon Image Browser is also not seeing the camera, but it does appear in the system profiler.
I'm at my wits end!!! Help? Please?
    Thanks.

  • Canon HF20 is no longer recognized

I recently updated to iMovie 09 and have successfully imported movies from my Canon Vixia HF20. Now when I try to do this, the camera doesn't show up in the import window, just the iSight. The camera is definitely connecting because I can see it mounting on the desktop and can access it's files.

  • IPhone no longer recognized by iPhoto

    Hi,
iPhoto no longer recognizes my iPhone when it's plugged in. The phone still shows up in iTunes.
Any ideas on "triggering" iPhoto to see the phone?
    Thanks.

I recently have been having the same problems too, my iPhoto is not seeing my iPhone. iTunes, however, does.
As suggested, I've tried setting the AUTO-LOCK to NEVER on my iPhone, but it has not solved the problem.
I've also tried deleting any and all images that were emailed to me, MMS'd to me, or images I've downloaded from the internet, and still iPhoto does not recognize my iPhone.
I also tried using Aperture2, and Picassa to see if by those applications might possibly detect my iPhone, but unfortunately they do not either. Is it possible that there might be a conflict with photos taken by third party photo app's? For example, I recently downloaded an app called AutoStitch and Camera Zoom. I only ask because I keep seeing solutions offered up that image files that were not taken by the iPhone dedicated app might be what is keeping iPhoto from recognizing the iPhone. Just a thought?
    Thanks.

  • Canon Powershot A75 no longer recognised by iPhoto after 7.1.3 (364) update

We have been importing photos from our Canon Powershot A75 to our iMac G5 (now running Leopard 10.5.2) for some time.
This morning an auto update for iPhoto was applied, taking iPhoto to 7.1.3 (364).
Now iPhoto won't recognise our camera at all. I've tried different USB ports. Made sure it is in photo playback mode. No joy.
    Any suggestions?

You might try reapplying the Mac OS X 10.5.2 Combo Update.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Canon SD 750 Elph not recognized by iPhoto '08

Hi discussions. This is just an answer to a problem I was having and might be helpful to anyone having iPhoto camera connection problems. First off, I have four apple computers; three running 10.4.11 and one, a new 2.8ghz MacBook Pro, running 10.5.5. The Canon 750 Elph is two months old. From the beginning it has connected to my desktop DP 2.5ghz G5 PPc, my 12" 1.5ghz G4 Powerbook (both running 10.4.11) and now the MacBook Pro. It would not connect to my wife's 17" 1.33ghz G4 Powerbook running 10.4.11. System Prefs identified the Elph connected to the usb high speed bus so I knew that the usb ports were operational. Image Capture stated; No camera connected. As always, all updates had been performed and permissions run. I trashed iPhoto '08 along with its prefs and all iPhoto receipts. I then reinstalled iPhoto '08 and ran permissions. Still no connection. It was time for _+Apple Discussions+_. I followed a thread from some weeks ago to try rebuilding the iPhoto library. I saved and rebuilt. No connection. My apologies for not remembering the user in the thread who stated that a reinstall of the last OSX combo update might do the trick. He was speaking of the 10.5.5 combo update so I figured it should be the same for the 10.4.11 combo. I did not know that you could install an update over the existing OS which has already been updated. I am always learning. BINGO! The Elph connected immediately. Thanks to APPLE DISCUSSIONS, I still have a bit of hair left and a wife who loves me. I hope maybe this post will save the hair of someone else.
    Best Regards

  • Pictures no longer recognized by iPhoto

My wife has an old iBook G4 that she used for many years.  During that time she imported hundreds of photos into iPhoto.  Recently, she bought a new MacBook Pro, and I transferred her data from the iBook to it.  We noticed shortly after the transfer that the new iPhoto only showed 11 pictures.  The iBook also showed only 11 pictures.  I checked the size of her iPhoto library on the iBook.  It shows 12 GB of data (plenty for hundreds of images).  I've tried fixing permissions, verifying the disk, reselecting the library by holding the option key, rebuilding the library by holding the option + command keys, and restoring past versions of the library from Time Machine backups.  I cannot get the missing pictures to show up.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm at work, and I don't remember what version of iPhoto she has on the iBook, but I think it may be version 5 or 6 (if that's important).

    Try the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If that doesn't bring back the photos then this will but at a price (no albums, keywords, books, etc.):
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.

  • Recognize Canon EOS 7D Mark II RAW Files in PS CS5 on Windows

I'm trying to get a RAW files from a Canon EOS 7D Mark II recognized by PS CS5. I'm running a Windows 8.1 desktop.
That camera format is supported by ACR 8.7.1 update. But that appears to be only backwards compatible with PS CS6.
Is there any recourse other than upgrading Photoshop? Thanks.

Yes. Download the DNG Converter free from Adobe: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 8.7.1 in order to convert the Canon raws to dng format which can then be read in Adobe Camera Raw.
Here's how to use it: Camera Raw: How to use Adobe DNG Converter - YouTube

  • Iphoto will no longer recognize my camera, says it does not recognize the format....they are jpegs? And now it will not even open when I plug my Canon Eos Camera in to download. I have checked everything on the camera and it is working perfectly....

Iphoto will no longer open when attaching my Canon Eos Camera. I have checked the camera and everything is working perfecty. When I open it myself, Iphoto is working perfectly too. But now when I attach the camera, Iphoto no longer opens at all. Yesterday it did open after a really long wait but it kept saying that it did not recognize the "format" of the images....they were jpegs??? Then it flashed on and off and if I hit download at just the right second they would download. But today it won't work at all. Any suggestions.
    thanks

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Canon EOS Movie Plugin-E1 not recognized in Final Cut Pro 10.0.7

Canon EOS Movie Plugin-E1 not recognized in Final Cut Pro 10.0.7
I just installed the new version of final cut pro 10 and the canon plugin-E1 version 1.4 for the canon 5D mk III but after starting final cut pro I can not find the Log and transfer button., with the result I cannot import my files.
Is there a solution for this problem.

There is no L&T function in FCPX.
The import media dialogue window does what you want.
OS versions later than 10.6 should be fine importing Canon DSLRs.
