  • 10.6.7 update and now Canon printer problems

I had the automatic 10.6.7 update two days ago and everything is fine except now I have printer issues with Canon MF8350. I can still scan, I can print from Safari, I can print from some .pdf but not others, I am unable to print anything from Word - they all come out as blank pages. Updates from Microsoft and Canon didn't help.
If you don't know, anyone at least know how I can uninstall the update? I know how to find the updates list, but not how to get it out.

I just want to let you all know that I fixed my printing problem.
I could not add my printer under the System Preference>Print & Fax after I did the reset. But I can add the printer back to my Mac Pro by connecting the USB cable to the tower. When I connected my USB cable back to the Apple Extreme. The printer was offline. I did so many different thing still not working. Then I go the the discussion forum on Airport Express and ... I also followed a lot of advises there. Then someone give out a link on Apple support. I following the advise half way still printer was offline. Then I went to my Mac Book and to reset the printer, and add printer again, and click share this printer. I went back to my Mac Pro, and try print a page, I choose nearby printer (there was never has this option for me before). It has another printer icon with Canon MX310 series-1. Bingo, it printed from my Mac Pro also. I have two printer icons on my Mac Pro, one is the same name as the Mac book. I was very happy. It was 4 in the morning. Well, finally I could sleep good.
I am still not sure exactly what the step to make my printer work again (Trial and Error). But I learn a lot by reading advises on this forum.

  • I am trying to scan a legal size document from my Canon printer onto my MacBookPro. It scans the document as a letter size.

I am having trouble scanning a legal size document from my Canon printer onto my MacBookPro. I have set the printer paper size option to legal size on my printer. The scanned document comes through as a letter size document after scanning. I do not see an option in iPhoto to change the paper size.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks.

Experience has taught me that it pays to be very precise and specific when dealing with computers. Precisely and specifically, what you describe is impossible. It is impossible to scan a document (of any size) with a printer.
I surmise that you are using an all-in-one, ie, an apparatus which combines a printer, a scanner, and sometimes a fax machine, in the same device. That takes us to the next step -- the page size set for printing is used for printing -- it has nothing to do with scanning. It may be possible that Canon provides software which synchronises page sizes used for printing and for scanning, but we don't know what applications and drivers you are using…

  • Canon Printer MG5420. How can I save a scanned document in the Word format?

I can only find the option to save scanned documents in the PDF format. I want to know if there is a way to save in Word. Can anyone help me? Canon Printer MXZ5420.

    Hello Yvonne.
Specialized OCR software may be needed in order to save files directly to Microsoft Word format.  Our software does not have this capability.
If you are attempting to scan a basic, text-only document.  You can use our IJ Scan Utility to scan and make adjustments.
     1.  Start, point to (All) Programs, Canon Utilities and then open the Canon IJ Scan Utility.
     2.  Click 'Settings' on the lower right corner.
     3.  Click 'Document Scan' on the left.
     4.  Under 'Application Settings' on the right, select 'Start (OCR)' and choose 'Canon My Image Garden' in the menu.
     5.  Click OK.
     6.  In the IJ Scan Utility, click 'Document'.
When scanning is completed, Notepad will open and you will be able to edit and save your document.

  • Canon Printer Software 2.3 from Apple: now lists two printers

    ISSUE:
I recently ran Apple Software Update, and it installed *Canon Printer software update 2.3*. I now have 2 Canon iP4300 printers in my printer list (System Prefs/Print & Fax) and in all print dialogs.
Is it OK to delete one?
    These are listed:
    Canon iP4300 (original)
Canon iP4300-1 (newly added and now shown as the "default" printer)
*_2nd QUESTION: EVERYTHING THE SAME EXCEPT..._*
Everything prints as usual without problems (regardless of which printer I choose), and the options and features of both listed printers appear to be the same. But there is one minor difference I want to check. In System Preference/Print & Fax, I click the "Options & Supplies" button to give me more info about the selected printer.
Canon iP4300 (the original) shows this:
    Queue name: Canon_iP4300
    *URL: usb://Canon/iP4300?serial=A2BD20*
Canon iP4300-1 (the newly added printer) shows this:
    Queue name: CanoniP43001
    *URL: usb://Canon/iP4300?location=26200000*
Does anyone know what these URLs signify and why are they different?
    Thanks so much.
+P.S. I had installed all the latest drivers for my printer from the Canon web site BEFORE installing Canon update 2.3 from Apple.+

    L.A.B. wrote:
The previous driver version was 10.26.0.0, which I had downloaded from Canon. (The Canon Canada Downloads site does not show a 10.26.1 for this model; the most recent is 10.26.0 -- honest; I just double-checked it today.)
The 10.26.1 driver was included with the 10.6.3 (build 10D575). Canon Australia is also only showing 10.26.0 also so I'm not sure where the .1 update came from. The vendor supplies the files to Apple so it seems that Canon has not updated their driver links to show even the latest 10.30.3.0 driver they have supplied to Apple for this model, although they have done so for other models.
Anyway, let me remedy my omission by showing all that is listed for each printer's info (System Prefs > Print & Fax > Options & Supplies > "General Tab"):
*Canon iP4300 (the original) shows this:*
    Name: Canon iP4300
    Location: LAB's Computer
    Queue name: Canon_iP4300
    Driver version: 10.30.3.0
    URL: usb://Canon/iP4300?serial=A2BD20
*Canon iP4300-1 (the newly added printer) shows this:*
    Name: Canon iP4300-1
    Location: LAB's Computer
    Queue name: CanoniP43001
    Driver version: 10.30.3.0
    URL: usb://Canon/iP4300?location=26200000
Thanks for the extra information. I would say now that due to the different URL of iP4300-1, the Mac believes that it is connecting to two physically different printers, hence both printer queues being present. However I have never seen a USB connected device show its URL with "location=". I have always seen it as serial for USB connections. Do you have some other device connecting between the Mac and the iP4300, such as a USB hub?
Given that both queues work and are both using the latest driver, then I suggest it would be safe to delete the iP4300-1 print queue. Although there is every chance that it may return automatically after a restart of the Mac or printer.

  • Knock-off Ink Queers Canon Printer Output

Sorry, I didn't know where else to go with this.
I have about a 4-year old Canon color printer. It used to print very nicely, if slowly. To save money I bought a package of that knock-off printer ink at Costco. I've been having trouble ever since. The print-out colors are not the same as the on screen color. They seem to be faded or otherwise 'off'. Colors seem to be having trouble mixing.
Yes, I have gone back to using authentic Canon cartridges. Yes, I have cleaned the heads with alcohol and clean cloth. Yes, I have done deep cleaning, head alignment, etc. My friend, who recommended the knock-off ink has also been having trouble with his Canon printing, too.
We wonder what can we do? Any ideas?

I would agree with Ji~m's assessment; you may have not printed enough to clear the channels in the print head to purge all the problem ink. I'd suggest you run the printer's cleaning routing until the problem clears up. Note, though, that some cheap knockoff ink can cause permanent problems with the printer, for which the only solution is an expensive repair or replacement of the printer.
For the future, be very cautious about using any ink not from the printer's vendor or approved by them. Some ink works fine and some, as I said, can completely (and in some cases permanently) mess up your printer. Many vendors will balk at honoring a warranty for any problems that may be related to use of non-approved ink.
Good luck; I'm afraid you may need it.

  • No Canon printer profiles in CS5

Canon Printer Profiles do not appear after upgrading to Mountain Lion.
I upgraded the Canon drivers, still no success.
Canon techs suggested that I had to upgrade my CS5 to run with Mountain Lion.
I've tried to find just where one would find the upgrade, again no success.
I can also not chat with Adobe, probably because I don't have CS6.
Can anyone guide me to where I might find where to upgrade CS5?
    Thank you

greg sahli, I'll bring you up to date.
"What puzzles me is why OS 10.8 only affected the Canon profiles, and didn't interfer with all the others." prompted me to call Canon again. We reinsalled the drivers, again without success.
The Tech lady, unsure of the solution, suggested I print with the printer managing color
When I told her I was able select the Canon paper I use, she said that would be the profile.
There aren't any Canon profiles in the Library>Printer>Canon folder.
Apparently, with Mountain Lion, the old Canon profiles are not loaded.
At any rate, I printed a photo using the printer to manage color and got some great results.
That's the answer to 2 days work.
I wish to thank you for your efforts and guidance in helping solve my problem.
    Have a nice summer.

  • Canon printer and Snow Leopard

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and have now spent up to 8 hours trying to get my Canon MX 340 working again.  I checked the printer log and it said that the printmanagerfailed, I found a topic here about the same problem and it stated to go into system preferences and right click the canon printer and to select reset printing system.   Well I did that and it wiped out all my printers so needless to say that didn't work. Now I can't get it setup at all.  I have reloaded all of the drivers and software and it isn't even showing up in my system preferences so I can't add it.  I am pulling my hair out and really really need some help.  HELP!

Why would I go to HP printer support, it is a canon printer and yes I did download Canon's driver, what a joke.  I have found some information on this forum but so far no good.  At least I now have it showing up in systems preferences but still not working.  I wished I had checked all this b4 upgrading since I may not have done it.  I have downloaded the Apple supplied driver so if anyone out there knows what to do now I still need help.

  • Where is the "setup" button on a canon printer MX 452

Where is the "setup" button on a canon printer MX 452. Does anybody know? I'm supposed to push it to align the print head.

    What OS are you running?
There is no hardware WPS button on the TC.. you can use it via the airport uitlity.
The latest utility has added it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1628
It is also possible also in 5.6 utility.
Start the manual setup.. go to the top menu.. it is not in the main box. Add wireless clients.
That brings up a hidden page in the AU
Personally I have always done it manually via the printer wizard and simply setup wireless in the printer as infrastructure mode with the correct wireless name and password/security settings..
WPS is a security risk.. apple only initialise it when you bring up this menu.

  • Reader 8.1.2 Mac still won't print under Leopard

Acrobat Reader 8.1.2 just released still does not allow for PDFs to be printed under Mac OS X 10.5.1 (Leopard).
The result when trying to print is the same as with v8.1.1 - it pauses the printer and leaves the job queued.
Having waited over three (3) months for this BASIC issue to be fixed, this is an unbelievable disappointment. I can only hope the Acrobat CS3 products are fixed....

    Johndes,
Beginning with OS X 10.5, some of us could not print a PDF from the Adobe Reader program. Our printers would be put on "pause" rather than printing the document.
The expectation was that when Acrobat Reader was upgraded to v. 8.1.2, that Adobe would have that anomaly fixed. The beginning of this thread starts at the point where v 8.1.2 was released, and it was recognized that there was no fix, and our printers would continue to pause rather than print.
You are correct that we could open and print PDFs from another program. I used PDFPen because Preview would also pause my printer. That doesn't change the fact that, for whatever reason, Adobe Reader was the only application which required this workaround to get a printed copy. And, that happened on every later version of OS X 10.5, including 10.5.1.
I resolved the problem with an ERASE AND INSTALL of Leopard. I don't know where the problem originated, but I can now print directly from Adobe Reader. To me, it was worth that effort.

  • Cannot install Canon Printer MG3100 Driver

Hi guys! This is my first time using a MacBook Air and I got it in January this year. Initially, I managed to somehow get my wireless printer to be connected to my Mac (but I cannot remember the method I did). I was able to use it normally till February. After about 3 weeks of not printing anything, my Mac can no longer detect my printer. It's really frustrating! I downloaded the correct driver from the Canon website but it always fails to install! It always shows this:
And I've tried downloading external drivers like Apple Canon Printer Drivers (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/27696/apple-canon-printer-drivers) and Apple Canon Printer Driver 3.0 for Mac OS (http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16430/) but none of it seems to be working!
Please help, I don't know what else I can do!
    Thank you!

If you didn't manually trash the Canon driver files then they are most likely still present so the action of trying to run the driver installer again is unnecessary. To check if the driver is still present, open Finder and select Go > Go to Folder. Then copy the following text and paste that into the Go to Folder field and then press the Go button.
    /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources
Now look for a file labelled "CanonIJMG3100series.ppd.gz". If you see it then you still have the Canon driver installed and don't need to run the driver installation again.
You mention the Mac no longer detecting the Canon. This is a result of the Bonjour discovery service failing on your Mac - there are others in the same situation. To get past this issue you can create a direct printer to the MG. To do this you will have to determine what IPv4 address the MG is using. As there is no display on this model you may have to connect to your wireless router to check what IPv4 address has been assigned to the MG. Once you have the IPv4 address then you can select to add a printer, but change from the Default view to the IP view. Then enter the IPv4 address of the MG, set the Protocol to Line Printer Daemon, enter LP for the Queue and change the Name to MG3100. Then select the MG3100 series in the Use menu and click Add to complete the creation of this printer. Now you should be able to print again.

  • Canon printer & airport extreme

I just bought a canon printer & have unable to print from it through my airport extreme. I am able to print when it is directly hooked to my Mac. I contacted Canon & they said that the model (MF4350d) is not supported through a wireless connection through Airport Extreme, but it "does not necessarily mean that it will not work, but we are not able to provide configuration & troubleshooting."
From what i have been reading.... it may not be able to be done, but I thought I would see if anyone had any suggestions?? I have read through multiple posts & have tried all the troubleshooting tips, but with no success!
    Help!

If you look for a printer that connects using either wireless or ethernet, you'll be way ahead of the game.
Apple does not publish a compatibility list of USB devices, so if you want to try another USB device, make sure that you can return it if it doesn't work.
And, as you are probably aware, if you buy an all-in-one device, even if it works at the USB port of the AirPort, only printing will work. Scan, fax, copy, maintenance, etc are not supported.
I understand, but cannot verify that Canon devices will not work to scan on the Mac operating system, so you might want to ask about that if you are looking at that brand.

  • Options gone for select, edit, and print under HP Smart Web banner since HP dialed in to fix crash

The buttons are gone for selecting, editing, and printing under my HP Smart Web since HP dialed in and fixed another problem.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software but still no luck.  All that shows up is the "HP Smart Web Printing" banner with the X to exit; that's it, no options listed below.  My computer has completely crashed twice since I started using it 1/4/10.  The second time the person dialed in and changed the bios and a few things in msconfig but I don't see anything there that would cause the smart web printing.  HELP.  Am I missing something really silly since I am a new user of HP Smart Print?

I am REALLY annoyed to read this post. I have spent a lot of time to try and fix my computer (which I don't have with 5 kids...not your problem I know and NOT the point). It should NOT be this hard to update and fix a product. I DON'T WANT the Bing bar...and am feeling like I am being forced to accept it to make my puter run correctly because it is supported by HP. What....kind of service is THAT???????? I hope that someone from HP....admin or whatever...reads this. I am "madder" than mad. I have had HP products for years with few problems...and all of which I could find a solution for. This is unacceptable...and I hope someone listens. I don't know if I can trust HP again....when it won't even use the browser most use without problems. Sorry to the rest of the "forum" for venting...but I can't get help...am frustrated...find this out now...and it is nothing personal.

  • Replacing a Canon printer

My stepfather's Canon Pixma MP240 printer got to the point where repairing it costs about as much as replacing it.  Since Staples is having a sale on Canon printers this week and their sale paper has a coupon for $10.00 off Canon printers, he's thinking of replacing it with another Canon printer.  The printer doesn't have to be photo quality as we don't print a lot of photos.  However, we do print a lot of text documents.  One thing that a previous Lexmark printer had that the Canon printer didn't that I missed was the ability to darken the print quality.  All Canon had was the ability to change the quality of the original image but not the final print.  We do copy a lot of documents so scanning and copying capability would be needed.  We have a router so I don't know if that would include faxing capability. If there is faxing capability, it would have to be through the device itself rather than through the computer.  However, faxing capability is not a necessity.  Does anyone have any recommendations?

My stepfather still wants to be able to print in color so monochrome was out of the question. But he did get a Brother printer.  It's a Brother MFC-430W inkjet printer.  It has fax and WiFi capabilities.  One thing I found out was the more features a device has, the longer the setup takes as each feature has to be setup separately.  The most difficult features to set up were the fax and WiFi capabalities.  The manual made a distinction between external and extension land line telephones in the instructions but it wasn't quite clear what that distinction was.  I eventually figured out to plug the desktop house phone into the device since that was telephone closest to the device.  Also, trying to figure out what information about the router to input to setup the WiFi capability took several tries before I figured out the correct information to input.  Now that it's set up, it seems to be working okay.
