My card reader keeps being automatically disconnected

Hi
I recently go a MacBook Pro 15" retina display to work on the go.
I'm a photographer and usually import my photos via a card reader to Adobe Lightroom.
Everytime I try uploading them, the card reader is being disconnected and tells me that the disk was not ejected properly.
If I try on my iMac, it works perfectly so I can conclude the fault doesn't come neither from the card or the card reader but perhaps the usb ports!?
Any ideas?
Thanks

It's quite the possible even though the card reader was comaptible with a prior Mac OS X, it's not compatible with  v10.9 Mavericks.

  • Trying to import photos in Aperture but card/card reader keeps disconnecting ..error message then appears ?? any ideas

I have been trying to import my photos but "disk not ejected properly" keeps appearing. I am not moving it or doing anything etc. Could it be a software issue? or could my card reader be at fault? However it does work fine on my other computer

Is it a built-in card reader or connected to an USB port?
Have you tried a different USB port?
Have you tried to read from a different card with new photos?
Download and save all photos on your other mac, where you can read the card, and reformat it in the camera.

  • My contacts keep being automatically deleted from my iPhone5. How do I stop this from happening?

yesterday i noticed my contacts were deleted after i took a phone call. i tried to manually re-add but they keep getting automatically deleted after a couple minutes. i restarted, resetted the device to no avail. i even restored from icloud and within an hour most of my contacts were deleted again. please help. i am beginning to get very frustrated.

On your iOS devices, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Sync (in the Calendars section) and set this to All Events.
Not sure about your Mac.  Try going to icloud.com, opening your calendar, clicking on the gear icon on the lower left and choose preferences, then on the Advanced tab make sure you haven't checked Hide Events next to Old Events.

  • In iPhoto8 inserting a Card reader does not automatically open iPhoto

In preferences it shows Connecting Camera: Opens iPhoto. Is there something else I should be doing. In previous versions it opened as soon as I inserted the card reader.

Sorry, I edited my post after thinking about it. I never connect my camera - I prefer to use a card reader and previously when I inserted the card reader into the slot on my laptop it would immediately start downloading the photos into iphoto - showing dups etc. Now, in iPhoto 8 I have to drag the disc (that appears when I insert the reader) from the desktop to iPhoto and then it starts the import.

  • My card reader is not working

Any way to do a self diagnosis on it?

    > (option key)SystemInfo>Hardware>Card Reader
Verify your card reader is being recognized by the system- if so
Then try inserting the SD card in and out several times attempting to get a better connection.
If there is any dust or debris in there, blow it out.

  • When using Card Reader, the automatic downloader is not working in Photoshop Elements 8

I have Windows Vista and just upgraded to Photoshop Elements 8.0. The Elements program is not automatically launching when I insert a CF card in my PC. The settings I have for the camera or card reader is 1) Begin download -immediately 2) Shot date 3)Delete Options - After copying, Verify and Delete Originals. When I was using Photoshop Elements 6.0 and inserted a memory card in the PC, the elements program would automatically launch and after photos were transferred, it would ask if you wanted to delete photos from the card reader.
I tried changing the settings from the Download options from Generic Device - show APD Dialog (Standard) to the Automatic Download option but that didn't help. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the automatic downloader work and bring up the option to delete from the card reader? If not, I will have to uninstall Elements 8 and go back to Elements 6.0
    Thanks.

First of all be sure your space bar isn't stuck. Secondly, if you have a flash window open, you may need to close it to get rid of the hand (this happens a lot when people have a tutorial open in the background).

  • My aperture keeps crashing after a recent transfer of pics from card reader

running 10.7.2 and Aperture version 3.2.2.  Recently was transferring files from an Memorystick pro duo in a card reader (which has been done many times before).  Everything seemed to transfer fine and i ejected the card.  That's when the trouble started.  I haven't been able to run Aperture since.  The program opens up, then says it is "procesing" after being open for several seconds.  Then it crashes and shuts down and an error message comes up.  Don't know what to do and would hate to lose many pics!!  Help please!!!!!  First part of error message is copied below (let me know if more of it is needed):

Will it be a problem if i uninstall/reinstall Aperture?  I shouldn't lose my photo database, correct?
No, reinstallation will not affect your database.
I haven't tried with a Guest account, is it really worth trying?
I suggested that, to narrow down the source of the trouble.  The usual reasons for crashing are:
    A corrupted Aperture database
A newly imported corrupted image inside your database
    Inconsistent Preference settings
Insufficient permissions to access parts of your database
Wrong formatting of the dirive containing the Aperture Library
Network problems, if the library or masters are on a network volume
    Insufficient memory or hard disk
    Incompatible Aperture plug-ins
Incompatible frameworks in the system library (may be cause by installing third party apps, most often Final cut or other multi media software)
A problem with the Aperture Apllication itself
    A problem with the OS
    Broken hardware
    User error
If your error message is so unspecific, it may be looking for a needle in a hay stack to find clues.
If Aperture does not crash when working from a different account (not necessarily the guest account  - any other new account you create for yourself for testing purposes will do) then the reasons 5-12 will be unlikely, since those are system wide problems. Then you should try to fix your library and preferences.
If on the other hand it even crashes working from a different account, I'd suggest to reinstall Aperture or reinstall Lion, since the problem is not tied to your account.
If other applications are acting up, too, I'd recommend to run a hardware test and to repair your system volume.
To fix Preferences and Library, see here:
    Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
I did try that eventually and while it allowed me to access Aperture after i completed that, once i closed it and opened it the next time it began crashing again like before.
Since you already did repair your library, try rebuilding next and removing the Aperture Preference file and presets, as described in the trouble shooting basics. After a crash it is really a good idea to rebuild the library and recreate the preferences, since crashing and/or force quitting can leave those inconsistent.
If you can work after repairing, but then Aperture crashes again, this looks very much like a single, defective image inside your library. Do you remember the projects you imported recently? The next time you start Aperture, I'd defer the generation of Previews. Press the Shift key immediately after you start Aperture to prevent preview generation for that session. Then inspect carefully your most recent imports.

  • How do I tell Lightroom 4 not to disconnect my card reader after an import?

How do I tell Lightroom 4 not to disconnect my card reader after an import?

I just ran across this post and have no-axe-to-grind on either side of this issue.
What hasn't been mentioned here are the actual "financial" consequences of leaving images on a memory card (i.e. card in limbo)? Obviously this means you will need more than one (1) memory card, which I'm sure is already the case for most LR users.
If we compare the cost per image for memory card storage versus film, the price point is about the same:
    36 exposure roll 35mm color negative film = ~$3.00 ÷ 36 = ~$.08 per image
    16GB SanDisk Extreme 400x CF card = ~$50 ÷ (16,000/25) = ~$.08 per image
(Assuming 25 MB image files, excluding processing costs)
Unlike film the actual cost per image with memory cards drops significantly over the life of the card, which I'll very conservatively put at 500 card usages.
    ~$.08 per image first shoot÷500 = ~$.00016 per image
The actual cost per image over the life of the card with only 500 usages works out to about $.16 per 1,000 25 MB images.
Would you spend 16 cents for “temporary backup” of 1,000 perhaps irreplaceable images until confirmed not corrupted during transfer to your hard drive and a second backup drive? I think so!
Another side benefit of using additional memory cards and retiring them earlier to the trash is that it reduces the likelihood of catastrophic failure and image loss:
MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) ÷ Actual Usage = MTTF (Mean Time To Failure)
Actually determining when you should replace a memory card and how you track its usage should be discussed in a new post.
IMHO, this strengthens the case of holding-off on deleting images or reformatting your memory card right after import into LR. Now go buy some more memory cards! (Disclaimer: I do not own any memory company stock.)

  • Why do imported files disappear after disconnecting the card reader?

I recently replaced my hard drive and upgraded to OS X Yosemite 10.10. I restored my computer from a backup on an external hard drive. Since then, Lightroom 4 has been losing my files. They appear to import normally and are still in the catalog as long as the card reader is plugged in, but as soon as I disconnect the card reader Lightroom can no longer find the files and they do not show up when I attempt to search for them by name. What's going on? How can I get Lightroom to store my files as it did before?

Move and Add are normally disabled for non-hard drive removable media. This is to prevent people from losing photos and all the work they might have done on those photos.
    Normal Procedure is to:
    1. Insert your camera's media
    2. Import into Lightroom using Copy which will make a duplicate of your file from your media and store it on your hard drive (or external hard drive - which ever you specify)
    3. Remove media
    4. Work on your images in Lightroom from the location they were copied to - never from the original media

  • HT204053 When I am purchasing from the app store for free apps my card is not being accepted. It's the same account I keep putting in the 3 digit security code. It still is not accepting it therefore cannot update my games.

Please can someone help me. I have been using my present account card for almost 2 years. Recently when purchasing free apps from store, I put in my password, then it takes me to my account to enter the security code for my card I do this and I have even re-entered the new card and it's still not accepting it.
Hence I cannot update or buy until I do this. The same thing happened with my daughters account and had to use her dads card.

  • Can't Open RAW Images - disconnected card reader - damaged??

The other day, I think I made the mistake of unplugging a Compact Flash card reader of RAW images prematurely. I'm not sure.
I got the warning that says that unplugging can damage the files.
Now, when I try to view the images, it shows that there are RAW images there, but they are greyed in Photoshop. In the browser, they are not greyed out, but they don't open except in Preview and there they just open Preview without showing an actual image.
When I hit Command - I, on an image it shows as Zero Kb.
    My question...is there any hope?
Is there anything I can do to salvage these images somehow?
There is a second card which DOES show the image and opens in Preview, BUT when I try to open in Photoshop, the NEF RAW file is s greyed and won't open.
I would REALLY like to save this images if possible. Any hope would be much appreciated.
    Thanks a lot.
    J.

Presumably you have checked to see if the images can be viewed if you put the card back in the Nikon - and tried a USB connection from the camera.
You could try changing the 'Image Capture' (in Applications) Preferences and see if the files are recognised.
There is also 'Graphic Converter' (in Applications) which might be able to get useable files from the camera or the reader - although this old bundled version(4.9) doesn't mention your file format.
If no joy, Lexar have a utility that might help

No consolation I know, but I get that that really comforting "unplugging" message sometimes, even when the reader and CF card with Canon RAW files has been properly dismounted...
