My CD/DVD drive locks up the entire computer.

Whenever I insert a disk into my computer, whether it is a CD or DVD, the entire thing locks up and when I try to reboot, it locks up during reboot unless I hold the eject key until the disk is released. My parents do have parental controls on my log on, is this one of them? Sounds a little rough. Thanks in advance.

Have your parents try a disk with their account. If it works there, then it's something about your account causing the problem.

Thanks for your quick response. I should add....it worked before. When I previously inserted the two DVDs into this remote drive, and I went into finder, I could click on the "remote device" line and see all my saved documents (excel, word, etc) on the DVD and open them on the Mac. Now I cannot see them, when I try to open them on the Mac, nothing happens, nothing is displayed. I just re-tested the remote DVD drive with a CD and, no problem, it opened up the CD via iTunes and I cold play the CD. SO......I know the remote DVD drive (it's an LG by the way) is fine, it's something to do with some settings on my mini mac,especially where I could open it previously. I do not remember changing any settings since then.
When I go into system preferences and click on CD/DVD it gives me options of how to open up a music CD (default is iTunes), a DVD (default is iMovie), etc. The problem is my DVD is all miscellaneious files/documents. I just want to be able to see them in the finder. I also tried to open them via microsoft word, from the remote disk and again, it could not open the drive, even though some of the documents were microsoft word documents. Again, I was able to open them previously and the DVD is not corrupted in any way.

The size of the image depends on the size of the browser window of your visitor. And it will never be larger than the browser window.

After i expand my web browser for the entire computer how do I make it fit screen again

In my web browser page there are two arrows in upper right hand corner. They allow me to make my web page to fit the entire computer screen. After I do that, how do I restore it to a normal web page appearance?

"Shift + Command + F" I believe is the shortcut to do that.
EDIT: actually, just hold your cursor in the top right of the screen for a second and your taskbar will reappear and you can close full screen.

CD/DVD drive does not play entire disk

Greetings!
I have an iMac (2009 acquired) 3.06GHZ - Mac OSX 10.6.8 - 4GB mem.
I am experience CD/DVD drive problem with some CDs with photos: The drive starts accessing the disk
but at some point (say, midway through a 300 pic cd) seems to stop recognizing the presence of photos on the disk.
At that point, Preview cannot access such "unrecognized" photos and Icon vew does not show such "unrecognixed"
photos. It is as if the drive is not able to explore the entire disk.
Same seems to happen when I write to a blank DVD disk: some material ends up not being written to disk.

Are you sure that the Files work with the Mac?
Err... Typical example: CD recorded on a PC, with many .jpg files (photos) on board. Seems that there is no "File compatibilty" issue here. CD starts playing on the iMac, in Preview (Icon display mode). Soon, Icon display mode just stops. Seems that the drive is not able to "drill" into the material on the CD further than a certain ares. At this point, it is even difficult to eject the CD. iMac seems to lock up.
I would put the Movies in a mp4 file and the pictures in a jpeg.
No movies on the CD
Why don't you use an external drive or Air drop to move files?
Should not need an external dribe to just play a CD containing photos, provided by another party. Simple operation , no?

Ok, I didn't realise that you never found the DVDPlayback.framework folder, the way you answered my post, I just predumed that you had.
The Mavericks version may or may not be differenect to the Lion version you have. I don't know. However, there is more to the folder than just this one file. How they all work and what outside looks into this folder, again I don't know, but I would expect these to be contributing to your issues.
I don't know why you bothered to download a separate player, especially a blue-ray, but you may as well delete it as it is now help to you.
The initialization error, is the same one I would normally see when the DVDPlayback file was still set to internal. I suspect that you are getting the error, because of other issues with the framework.
No, I will not email my framework files to you, as again I have no idea if they would even be any use to you, plus, I just don't want to.
You have to have the correct DVDPlayback.framework on you computer. I stongly suggest that you go to the Mac App Store, to your Purchases tab and download the full installer of OS X Mavericks. This is a large 5GB file and will fully reinstall the operating system onto you computer. It SHOULD leave all your data intact, but backup first, to be sure. If this framework is missing, you may have others too.
Once you downloaded the OS X installer and installed, make the changes to the DVDPlayback files as before, make sure System Preferences > CDs & DVDs is set to 'When you insert a video DVD: Open DVD Player' is set, and you should be right to watch DVD movies.

CD/dvd DRIVE locks up and cannot eject/open at all

anyone know on how to fix this issue with a Notepad dvd/cd writable drive-laptop it is out of warranty- on startup the power LED's light shows green for a few seconds and will eject upon startup if pressed-but once closed and Windows vista is loaded, the cd/dvd drive completely locks up-no power green light displays. and will not allow to eject at all
it is shown in my computer ok.
i tested reseating the ide cable for the cd/dvd drive -but still same problem. (ran a scan disk as well)

HP Envy dvd drive issues after the Windows 8.1 update

I have a HP Envy and after the Windows 8.1 update the dvd drive is not working. I can see the drve but it is difficult to get the drive to open or recognise there is a disc in it. What can I do?

HT2801 I do not see my dvd drive listed in the devices area of my MacBook Pro. How can I fix this problem?

My optical drives is working on my MacBook Pro laptop. However when I insert a DVD of any type I do not see it listed among the devices. I see the Mac Hard disk drive, Skype, idisk etc but no drive "D" or the DVD Drive. This is especially fraustrating when I am trying to copy photos or a movie to my hard disk drive. Safari locks up the entire OS.

Every now and again Safari will lock up on a web-page and take the entire OS with it. You cant force quit the appliation and the finder becomes unresponsive and the only option I can take is holding down the power button. I've run Applejack and OnyX and it had found some problems when the crashing was over and over... now the system just randomly crashes once a day while running Safari.
It only happens with Safari. I've told the OS to load ten programs at once to see if it was a stability problem.. and after chugging a way for a bit everything opened nicely except for NeoOffice which I needed to use the activity monitor to kill.
Albeit, the crashes are on sites that off-link from new sites.. and certain sites I don't usually visit. It is just random, and tends to happen when i'm moving between pages or useing drop down menus... I will get 'Safari timed out' while trying to load something and then the entire browser no longer functions in any capacity.. but it can still minimize. I try to load up the activity monitor from the dock and it bounces up and down and nothing ever comes of it. I let it for for a few minutes the last time this happened to see if it will clear up (i told safari to force quit) and it was still stuck.
I had, installed some HP drivers for my printer/camera and that was about the time the problems began happening. It cleared up after running AJ/OnyX/and a permissions check.
If it means anything else, I also had Azures cause the lock up of the OS after it sat downloading a torrent file over night. The OS was working (monitor light/keyboard light) but the OS wasn't able to run/close or function in
any means. (The next night, it downloaded again and still worked.. the OS has been up for about three days right now)
It also does not leave any crash logs, which is another oddity.
(P.S. I use Camino now a days, but I use safari for tabs that dont open straight away)

Actually, i'm useing a macbook pro.. and when i just tap the power button, the shut down/log off options appear.. however; even when i click one.. i get the spinning circle and no dice on the shut down. I may reinstall Safari off the install disc.. as you suggest. This also happened when Azures locked up, and permissions check didn't find anything wrong. After the reboot though, so no telling when the software is, dead.

How do I unlock the iMac? The entire computer is locked.

My wife was using Mail, she selected an item and the cursor changed from an arrow to the capital "I" and then would highlight all of the text in the email. I wnt down and right clicked on Mail to force quit. That sent the mail tool away but then everything else was also locked. I force quit each application that was open. all that is on her screen now is the big elephant picture, the dock, and the apple menu on top for Finder. Nothing will now work.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Quit the installer to restart normally.

Are Mac laptops with CD/DVD drives still on the market?

Specifically, I was wondering if these older models are available through the Apple Store, and if not, where I might purchase one?...alternatively, is it possible to get an external CD/DVD drive to go with any Mac laptop?...I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada...

IDVD 4 now freezes the entire computer during burning

Hello,
iDVD 4 now freezes my entire computer during burning somewhere around stage 3. I can't even force quit. This never happened before - it does so while burning a project that had been burned successfully many times in the past and also new projects. I did have a bad RAM problem weeks ago - which is fixed now. Tried fixing permissions and cleared out enough free space. This is wierd - it has been working for years.

*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.
• Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
• Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
• Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

Hp g6000 dvd drive not detected in my computer, tried registry fix and still not working.

Hi i have a hp g6093ea laptop and for a couple of weeks now i have had my dvd drive dissapear from my computer.
i have the tried the registry thing where you delete the upper and lower filters and then restart laptop.
it worked then couple days later it was gone again.
i have removed the dvd from laptop and clean the connection and put it back still the same.
i was told to remove any burning programs and reinstall so i did that and the drive came back then after reboot went again.
the dvd drive ejects and has power and attempts to read the disk but its just not detected in my computer.
i have even been into the bios and put cd drive as boot first.,
then put my bootable xp pro disk in and it wont boot from the bios.
so i thought i would try an external drive to boot from bios, and it doesnt boot from there either.
i have had the drive randomly pop up in my computer and then after a restart it would be gone again.
so i cant put a fresh install on my laptop and i dont know what else i can do.

Installed itunes for windows- ipod+dvd drives not recognized by my computer

After installing i tunes I received a message saying that there were errors during install. Importing and export (burning) would not be possible through i tunes, I should re-install itunes. I have reinstalled i tunes.
On restarting my computer i have encountered issues with drives, I cannot find the ipod in "my computer" nor can i find my dvd drive. The drivers for the dvd drive are installed.
There is possibly confusion over the drives allocated letters ie it maybe the hardware is trying to use the same designation.
Is this a common issue with installing i tunes, I can't find any other threads on similar issues. Any suggestions on fixes greatly appreciated.

ahhhhhh, many thanks for the link. for a while (about a year ago), Packard Bell UK was including those instructions on their troubleshooting pages, but then they went away. (or i just couldn't find where they'd been shifted to.)
usually nowadays i crank out the MS instructions instructions instead:
(MS) CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
... but it's a (slightly perverse) sort of comfort to know that i'm still recommending basically what Packard Bell recommends.
