My CD / DVD player rejects all discs

I have a Mac OS X version 10.6.8 with:
- 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- 4 Go 1067 MHz DDR3
I wanted to burn files on my laptop. I have inserted a blank DVD into the player. Then, i have started the burning. But at 60% of disc verification, the procedure has stopped and the disc was rejected from drive without any reasons. Then, i have tried to insert other disks (CD, DVD, CD cleaner, etc.). But the disc is automatically rejected. It does not fit completely into the player. I do not understand what happens. Please help me. How to solve the problem (no manufacturer's guarantee now)?

At 60% of disk verification (DVD-R. Verbatim. 5.7, 16x, 120 min),  the procedure has stopped and the drive has rejected the DVD. Then, i have tried to insert other disks (CD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner (Dynex), classical disks for movies or music, other DVD-R verbatim 16x 120 min) but each time there is about 1 cm (or 2 cm) which is outside of drive. Then, the disks are automatically ejected.

Rather than burn directly to disk follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • HT2499 Why won't the dvd player recognize a disc?

Why won't the dvd player recognize a disc?  The brand new dvd I insert keepgetting ejected.

Try cleaning the lens of the optical drive.
Use a DVD lens cleaning disk.
If you have a can of compressed air, shoot some in to the slot.
Us a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth) wrapped around a business card and gently insert it into the slot.
    Ciao.

  • Why does the DVD player say "supported disc not available?"

So, regular DVDs will play and are recognized on my Macbook Pro, but I'm trying to play a recordings DVD (for a music literature class) and the DVD player says "supported disc not available." The DVD is supposed to work on my operating system since it's the newest one, but I don't know how to fix the problem! Please help!
    Thanks!

I'm having the same problem lately.  I have a mid 2010 21.5" iMac with an internal SuperDrive running Yosemite.  I tried putting in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "The Giver" rented from RedBox.  Both spin sputter for a bit and then eject the disk back out.  So, it never mounts and no software (Finder, Disk Utility, DVD Player) ever gets a chance to see it.  Both play fine in a 15 year old DVD player, and my purchased copy of "The Dark Knight" mounts just fine in the iMac.  So, I have to assume that something is being done to the DVD's that rental companies are given to prevent them from mounting or something.
Not having any luck on Google trying to confirm that.
I guess I need to amend this.  Both DVD's play fine in a early 2011 13" Macbook Pro with the internal SuperDrive.  It's running Mavericks still and has a "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-8A8".  The iMac has a "OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H".  Not sure if it's the drive, the OS, or what (although I will say I'm fairly certain I was having this problem on the iMac before Yosemite, so it's probably not the OS).

  • Mac DVD player plays all DVDs but this one

A commercial DVD from Netflix will play on my tv, my MacBook Pro, and my old power Mac, but not on my intel Mac.  All other DVDs play on this Mac without a hitch.  Netflix has sent me 2 copies of this and neither works, yet all others work.  There are two discs in the series and neither will work.  They stop after the introduction and warning from the FBI.  They then freeze the DVD player and I have to force quit the DVD Player.  When they freeze there is a green bar at the bottom of the screen.  I have a separate optical drive attached and even when I use that to play the DVD the result is exactly the same.

In addition, I have repaired permissions, but nothing lets this get past the 26 second part.  That's where both of the discs freeze on my iMac.  Again the discs play fine on my dvd player attached to the tv, plays fine on my MacBook Pro and plays fine on my G5 iMac.

  • DVD Player rejects clean burned DVD on Mac Pro, G5 and G4

I have a disc from a colleague, standard NTSC which displays the following once the menu screen appears (and hangs afterwards immediately):
"DVD Player encountered an error it could not recover from. There was an error reading from disc. It might be scratched or dirty. [-36]"
Has anyone else encountered this with clean media? Thanks.

    HI Ken,
    Repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • DVD player not reading discs. Any DIY advice?

Hello Everyone, my DVD player suddenly isn't reading discs. It just makes a ticking noise. Does anyone have DIY repair advice? Thanks! Kristina
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Clicking sound indicates optic lens is trying to focus on disc, 2 DIY options, try both. First make sure discs are clean & have no finger prints or smudges on them, second, if the lens is dusty you can open the drawer and shoot some air duster striaght in the center (the compressed air duster you find in the computer dept. for cleaning keyboards & dusting screens). You can put the straw in the opening about 1 inch, directly in the center, make sure the can is upright. If this doesn't work, it might be time for service.

  • DVD Player not playing discs

My DVD player won't play rental dvd's etc .. I get a message saying "Supported Disk Not Available"
I have successfully played on 2 dvd's on this machine (it's only 2 weeks old) and each of those times i got a message asking my permission to change the region settings plus a warning that i would only be able to change the settings 5 times ... this third attempt at watching a movie (a big reason i bought the 2nd machine - to watch dvd's in my bedroom) it now gives me the 'not supported' message

  • I'm trying to burn a  CD from Elements11 and each time I do,m my DVD player rejects the media.

I've spent 3 days putting together a tribute to my father for his funeral tomorrow and I'm trying to create a CD of pictures with music. It plays fine on my computer but when I burn a CD (following the instructions) my DVD player refuses to play. I've now got 5 junk CD's. I tried a blank DVD but Elements 11 does recognize it, it wants a CD-R. any suggestions?

I have Windows 7 on a Dell.  Open and play iTunes in the compatability mode and use Windows XP (service pack 2).  Disregard any messsages to disable the compability mode.  This has worked for me.  I have also reinstalled iTunes and played with burn speeds etc.  These ideas did not work.  Compatability mode works.

    3. Does this occur on certain programs, or all programs?

  • DVD player rejects most DVDs.

I have a Mac mini with OS X version 10.6.8. I insert a DVD & after a while it gets ejected. It's been doing this for a while now.

I've seen this happen to Macs upgraded to 10.8 or later and certain commercial DVDs.   Rebooting the same Mac in 10.6 does not fix the issue.  Yet another Mac running 10.7 can load the DVDs.
If you haven't replaced the PRAM battery in over 4 years, that could also cause a problem.
Self published DVDs can also be a problem*:

  • Macbook Pro rejects all discs after installing Snow Leopard

Topic title pretty much sums it up. After Upgrading my late 2009 15" 10.5.8 Macbook Pro to 10.6.4 the disc drive decided to stop working. I've tried three different discs, no success. When i put a disc in, it speeds up but after a few seconds it just spits it out again. Discs never appear in Finder.
Any ideas? Help would be appreciated, thanks.

    HI,
If you haven't repaired permissions after the upgrade, that may help.

  • No audio on disc image or on DVDs played in DVD player

    Help, I'm stuck.
I have made several movies in iDVD and burned them successfully. They always played with no problem. Now I am trying to play them in the DVD player and there is no audio. There is also no audio when I make a disc image. And there is also no audio when I try to copy on of my movies back onto the disc utility. I am also not getting audio from commercial DVDs in the DVD player. All of these DVDs still work fine in my regular DVD player hooked to the tv.
    I have version 6.0.4
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
Most common origin is .mp3 .avi or other strange audio format - or -
    imported audio from iTunes.
Medicine: Copy out as audio .aiff then use this in the movie then to iDVD.
If the DiskImage doesn't play OK - don't waste to burn DVD discs from it.
    *OTHER THINGS*
Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named: com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    Last resort:
from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!! I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive, emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option and I am up and running.
