My CDRW/DVDR is lost

After the installation of iTunes (delivered with the software package of my GRPS phone) I lost my CDRW/DVDR into my Windows 2000. Also I uninstalled iTunes, but noway. I contacted the support of my company (we are 180 peoples) and several persons have the same problem. This problem is due of installation of iTunes... And I still have only one solution (very expensive for me) is to re-install...
Does somebody know how to fix this problem ?

have you tried downloading the latest version from the iTunes site ? Sometime the media provided with devices is quite out of date.Do you know which version it was ?
iTunes, iPod, and QuickTime software for Windows require Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 do you have that installed ?
You may find that this article may help.

  • CDRW/DVDR Combo Drive Problem ... ... ...

I'm currently visiting my sister in France. She has a Flat Panel iMac (800mhz/256 mb ram) running 10.3.9 which is used each day mainly for web surfing and some general multimedia tasks. The machine recently adopted some odd behaviour. It was spitting out all discs. This seemed to be irrespective of the type of content. Although some CDR with pdfs and an occasional music CDR would be recognised. The machine has been kept in a fairly dusty environment.
Here what I have done so far to remedy the problem:
Cleaned the drawer with a dry air spray
Cleaned the laser lens several times with a lens cleaning disc
Ensured that all relevant updates have been loaded
Run "Pilot" in Cocktail at the default setting which includes Cronscripts and repairing disk permissions.
The machine now accepts and recognises discs, however, there is a problem still with blank CDRs. When inserting a 800mb CDR, it is recognised but only with a capacity of just under 38mb! This allows a track or two to be burnt but tht is all. Any ideas or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

As this sounds like a Drive problem, and this is the Importing & Burning in iTunes for Mac forum, you'll probably be better answered in:

  • Superdrive crapped out!  How do I install software now?

My superdrive won't burn or read any CD I put in so I got a Lacie external CD/DVD burner with Lightscribe to replace it. The instructions say load software and then plug power unit in and hook up to your computer. Duh! How do I load the software CD with a dead reader? Doesn't say if it also reads in addition to burning. Got it at the an Apple store. Should I call Ghostbusters or what?

    Gerald:
It will read CDs & DVDs, as well as write to CDRs, CDRWs, DVDR+/-, DVD-RW, DVDR DL, DVD-RW DL.
I use mine for importing CDs into iTunes as it is a better reader. You will find your LaCie a great addition.
    Good luck.

  • Opinions Please: Which iMac 'G5" to buy?

Hello: I'm reading through these forums trying to decide on WHICH revision of iMac G5 to purchase.
I have my choice of a used first generation iMac G5 which has the user upgradable feature. It comes with Applecare.
I can also buy the latest version 2.1GHz model for not much more.
Between these two models, which is the better choice. Is there any reason to purchase one over the other? I'm leaning towards the first generation because you can upgrade the hard drive to 500mb and I like that you can get inside to swap out user replaceable parts. What are the pluses for the latest G5 iMac.
    Thanks for your comments.

As an owner of the rev C iMac G5, I'd consider the plus points of the machine as follows:
Built in iSight. If you're an iChat AV user, this saves you the cost of a seperate iSight camera straight out of the box. The camera is beautifully integrated into the iMac case and is a very high quality. This also ties in with the fun but gimmicky PhotoBooth application.
Frontrow. If you're a digital media fan (music, photos, videos & DVD) then I'd suggest going for the latest iMac G5 solely on the basis of Frontrow. Whlist the ability to drive media playback from a few feet away, as opposed to driving the same with a keyboard and mouse, might not sound like much of an advantage. Trust me, it is! The experience of kicking back with your feet up, drinking a coffee and "surfing" through iTunes or watching a DVD using the remote is just wonderful!
The improved quality graphics card is worthwhile if you're a gamer or do anything particularly graphics intensive. This for me is even more true when you look at the 128MB Radeon X600 card compared to the original iMac G5 64MB nVidia FX 5200 card.
The slightly slimmer case of the rev C iMac G5 is nice but hardly a deciding factor.
In the interests of fairness, there are a couple of downsides. Firstly is the memory. The iMac G5 w/iSight only has one expansion slot, the other being occupied by a fixed 512MB memory card. You can add in another chip up to 1GB quite easily and relatively inexpensively. Adding in a 2GB chip however will set you back a small fortune at the moment.
Previous iMac G5's had both memory slots available, so you could upgrade one of those to 2GB total inexpensively. Long story short, if you don't see yourself needing more than 1.5GB of memory then the iMac G5 w/iSight will be fine. Otherwise....
The other consideration is the hard drive. The hard drive in the iMac G5 w/iSight is not user replaceable, so you're stuck with what the machine comes with (160GB in the 17", 250GB in the 20"). You can still easily expand by using an external FireWire 400 or USB 2.0 drive though.
Unless the >1.5GB memory expansion/expense or the lack of a user replaceable hard drives are an issue for you, I'd suggest going with the iMac w/iSight. The iSight camera, Frontrow and the better machine spec will make it worth your while over the 1st gen iMac G5.
Lastly you don't say if the 1st gen iMac G5 you're considering comes with a combo (CDRW/DVD-ROM) drive or a superdrive (CDRW/DVDR). Both of the iMac G5 w/iSight models come with superdrives.
Let us know how you go on and what you ultimately decide on!

This message appears always if you try to use not fully compatible disks.
Its not always referred to faulty CD/DVD drive or firmware.
Try to use different disks from different manufacturers.
I use TDK R (CD and DVD) and Im satisfied most of my devices (CD/DVD drive, stand alone DVD player, PS3, etc) handles this kind of disk properly.
But using other disks I had a similar issues...

  • The recomended DVD media list

    Hi
I am the lucky owner of a new DR8-A writer, however I am a bit frustrated over the amount of medias supported by the writer, it seems that where I live, in Denmark, I am not able to get my hands on any of the medias that the writer officially supports, but TDK, and those medias are usually not sold bulked in Denmark...
I was wondering if other users of this otherwise magnificent drive, could add a couple of medias to the "ok" list, so that i wont buy 100 medias which wont read, specifically i was thinking in any of these medias (all +R):
    Inifinity
    Verbatim
    DataWrite
    Philips
    Memorex
since these 5 brands are easily purchased in Denmark, does anyone have any experience with these mediabrands

Step 3: Boot your PC with the burned CD/DVD or USB disc to reset windows password.
You need to insert the Created CD/DVD or USB drive into the optional drive of the locked computer and reboot it.
Tips: It your computer still boots from hard drive Windows OS, it's necessary for you to change your COMS or BIOS settings to make it boot from CD/DVD or USB drive. If you don’t know how to set it, you may visit the official website: http://www.resetwindowspassword.net or contact the computer manufacture.
The computer boots from CD/DVD or USB drive, then
1 The program will ask for the Windows OS hard drive volume. Enter the ID number of the hard drive volume that Windows is installed.
2 The program has detected all the user names of Windows and asks which user name password is to be removed. Enter the ID number for the User Name.
3 The program asks to confirm weather to remove the password or not. Enter "y" (yes) to confirm your action and "n" (no) to deny the action and hit "Enter".
4 The program asks whether to continue to remove passwords for other accounts. Enter "y" to continue and "n" to finish. Eject your USB from your computer first and press any key to restart the computer from Windows. Now you can log in Windows with an empty password (with no password.), just click “Enter” when you login.
If you have any questions of the procedure and the settings, you could visit the website:http://www.resetwindowspassword.net or send email to [email protected].
Now you could see that to reset or recover the admin login password of windows OS: XP, Vista, Windows 7 or 2000 is not so difficult and you can do it with ease.

  • Bug or Lost Feature in new Quicktime?

Not sure if the following is a bug but we have lost an important feature with the new updated release of QuickTime Pro.
I draw your attention to the three buttons at the top left hand side of a program window - RED Yellow GREEN.
With the latest QT update in place select any compatible movie or video to play. It opens in original size. Prior to this update you could expand it easily to fit your desktop by clicking on the green button. Now the green button is disabled and does not work upon original opening of a media file.
Go to the Menu and select "Fit to screen" or hit Control 3 and the video will expand to fit the screen. Hit the green button and it will return to its normal size. Hit the green button again and it will expand to fit the screen.
Prior to this update once you opened a media file with QuickTime Pro and clicked the green button it would automatically expand to fit the screen. That no longer happens. Apple has either disabled it or it is a missed bug.
All other OSX media players (RealTime, VLC, NicePlayer, etc) will immediately expand the video window to fit the screen when their green button is selected.
Apple please fix this right away. Without this feature many who use that green button (especially those of us with 30" Cinema monitors) will avoid QuickTime Pro and opt for one of the other more compatible/feature rich media players.
    Tim...

Well, for now I'll drop QuickTime Pro and make other video players the default. If I have no alternative I'll convert the MP4 or MOV to another format like MPG or AVI and play it under VLC or RealPlayer.
I can't be the only user who is going to be doing this - dropping use of QTPro in favor of other more reliable and feature-rich Mac video players.

  • T42 DVD/CDRW Combo drive not reading CDs. System Folder Icon changes. XP Pro SP2.

Device manager shows correctly 'Ma**bleep**a UJDA755zDVD/CDRW'.

Am able to burn a CD, but as shown above cannot read. Disabling the drive in device manager, rebooting and re-enabling will make drive read once, rebooting again and it cannot read.
Using RegEdit to remove LowerLimit and UpperLimit does not help.
Have updated drive to latest firmware and run (to no avail) Microsoft AutoRun fix.
Drive works flawlessly  under Ubuntu 8.04.1, seems to be an XPP registry issue, but where?
Lost at this point, would appreciate any pointers...

I am having the exact same issue with a brand new T400.  When I insert a CD or DVD into the drive, no spin up occurs.  When I double click on the DVD-ROM/CD drive in My Computer, Windows tells me to insert a disc.
I've disabled the Automatic Power Savings for the optical drive.  I've also installed the latest firmware and made the regedit changes suggested by Microsoft (UpperFilter/LowerFilter).
I can't determine whether this is a software bug or hardware failure.  Does anyone have any insight?

  • Ipod connected to DVDR (USB) failure after completes update

Before updating my ipod, connected my ipod with my dvdr by the port usb, and after updating my ipod I cannot. Is possible to install the version previous to my ipod?

After searching for an answer i could only come with one conclusion. Maybe someone else will find another but this is mine.
    1. First Uninstall the newest version of Itunes and uninstall the current version of IPOD UPDater if you have it. Then restart your computer.
    2. After your restart find software to BACKUP IPOD or Back it up yourself. I used COPYPOD but you can also back up ipod by,
Other Way to BACK UP. Skip this step if you dont know what you are doing!!! (For windows users also for ADVANCED USERS YOU COULD NOT BACK UP AND BE STUCK WITH LOST FILES....) Go to MY Computer, Then the Ipod Drive. Click Tools>Folder Options; then click View tab. by Hidden Files and Folder click "Show Hidden files and folders." after that go back to the drives and start backing up my dragging files to desktop. You files will be In IPOD_CONTROL
It will be a sequences of F_10 and so copy all folders to a backup folder
IF you have files on your ipod backup files also such as .zip, avi, exe, txt, doc, etc.
    3. After this you will install the updater from your ORIGINAL CD that came with your ipod. After the install restart your computer.
    4. Go to the IPOD UPDATER and RESTORE your ipod. Let process complete.
    5. After your IPOD RESTORES move all files back to IPOD by going to Itunes that came with ORIGINAL CD and dragging files from backup location to the device.
(YOu may have to install newer version if so, DO NOT UPDATE THE IPOD!)
    6. Restart Your IPOD by Pressing Menu and the Clicker.
    7. Stay tuned for more fixes that APPLE may come out with for Itunes and IPOD updater.
I took these steps and it fixed my problem but i still don't know what the cause was. i looked throught all the ipod hidden files and pref. and with no luck could'nt find it. Someone im still looking for answer as to why!
This may also work for people with AUDIO or VIDEO problems after update.

    *Adding new items/removing orphans*
Try iTunes Folder Watch or iTunes Library Updater. Folder Watch is much faster on the adding files front, can be set to run in the background and includes a useful exclusion feature, however it’s slow at removing orphans. iTLU is better for this although doing it manually after looking at a list of proposed removals generated by Folder Watch is probably faster still. iTLU can also be set to update iTunes when you've used 3rd party tools to change tag info.
You may need to amend the list of file types these programs look for. My list includes:
    .mp3 .mp4 .m4a .m4b .m4p .m4v .mov .wav .aif .mid .ipa .ipg .ite .itlp .m4r .pdf
Note the last 6 types may not be recognised as already being in the library so should either be omitted from the search or you can add (at least for Folder Watch) individual exclusions for files you know are already in your library.

Huh? A "bug" would affect all devices using the OS. I have no idea what you are talking about as push worked just fine here after allowing a little time for my phone to be re-provisioned by the network. That took longer than normal due, I'm sure, to the large number of folks trying to do the same thing I was. And we've all hear AT&T whine that we evil iPhone users are breaking their network.

    Hello Theresa818,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like the cellular data will not activate for some reason on the iPad.
I found this article that will help you resolve this issue here, named iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular Models): Troubleshooting a cellular data connection, found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4249
Check for a carrier settings update.
    Update your iPad.
Toggle the Cellular Data setting off and on under Settings > Cellular Data.
    Restart your iPad.
Tap Settings > General > About. Locate the Carrier entry and make sure that your carrier is correct.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Cellular Data > SIM PIN.
Make sure you're in an area of good coverage. If the cellular data connection works in another area, contact your carrier to report the original affected area.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Restore the iPad as new.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, contact your carrier, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
I know you may have done one or two of the steps here, so you can skip those.
    Take care,
    Sterling
