My Centro is running slooooow

I hope I've posted this in the right place....I have a Centro (the third one in less than two years!!) and for the last week or so it just responds very slowly.  For example, when I send or receive a text, it takes at least 10 sec before any of the keys respond.  The same thing happens with phone calls and any of my other apps; it just seems like it is slow in general.
I have not added any new applications or software.  I did just try a warm reset followed by a soft reset and it seems to have helped somewhat, but it's still not back to normal.
Is there anything else I can do?  Anyone else have this issue?
Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

Are you syncing to Palm Desktop or Outlook? If so back up your data, and then perform a hard reset, do not sync you data back to the device, test the device now with nothing loaded, is it still sluggish? This would indicate a hardware issue, if this resolves the sluggish response you may have a data corruption or incompatible application installed.
You can get a SW called DB Fixit from Pimlico Software (www.pimlico.com) to check for data corruption on your device for free, you would have to pay for the product to correct the problem. You can rename your backup folder inside you user name folder, and sync your data back and see if this resolve the issue. If it does this would indicate this may be an app that has been backed up causing the problem.
If you need additional help on this issue please post again with your questions.

  • Power Mac 1.8 Dual G5 Runs slooooow

    We have 2 Power Mac G5's running the same OS 10.4.11 and Adobe creative suite 2. An issue with one is that it opens all Adobe aps real slow. It took 52 seconds to open InDesign but the other Power Mac opened it in 16 seconds. Also, an 84 MB file in Photoshop took 1 minute, 38 seconds to open but the other Power Mac opened it in 7 seconds! These computers are running identical software.
    Solutions I tried:
    • I dumped all the .plist files in Adobe creative suite. No improvement.
    • I dumped the com.adobe.mediabrowser.plist file and placed it under no access, as adobe suggested. No improvement.
    • I disabled 'version cue'. No improvement
    • I used tech tool deluxe to scan hardware. No problems found.
    • I booted from the OSX 10.4 CD and repaired permissions. It found problems and they were repaired. But, still, no improvement.
    • I, again, repaired permissions after restarting the computer. No improvement.
    • I reset PRAM. Still runs slow.
    • I checked the CPU and Activity monitor. It shows 1.68 GB memory free, so it's not an available memory problem.
    This computer is basically disabled since it takes so long to perform an operation. Is this a problem with Adobe or am I missing something, here? Thanks!

    Thanks for your reply. I reinstalled CS2 and I seen no improvement. But, I narrowed it down to a system corruption and reinstalled Mac OSX 10.4.11. Afterwards, I had to do a clean reinstall of CS2 since it lost some Photoshop preference files somewhere in the transition of the archive and install. But, all is well. Applications are opening in a snap.

  • Photoshop CS6 Running Slooooow

    I am so deeply frustrated with PS CS6 right now.  I bought the Master Suite through school.  I also bought a 27-inch, late 2012 iMac with 3.2 GHz i5 and 32GB of Ram.  Everything on my computer runs lightning fast except for CS6.  Even older PS runs fine.  I've tried resetting my SMC, playing with the Performance pane, nothing is working.  It's useably slow.
    Any ideas?  I use CS6 at school and work.  It's just my home that I'm having the issue.

    Are you saying it works at school?  What would be different?

  • Centro battery runs down quickly

    My battery doesn't seem to last very good. I start the day with a fresh charge and make or receive maybe two short calls in a day and use the cal or contacts a couple times and by evening my battery is dead to the point my phone shuts off or very low on on charge. I'd hate to see what happened if I used the web much. Is this normal? I thought with that much stand by I'd have plenty of battery each day. Thank you.

    Hi,
    I am sorry to disagree, but on Sprint's Palm Centro, once you are done using the web, it does indeed stop the connection. Hence the fact that when you click on the WEB Icon, it takes a few seconds to reconnect to either the last page viewed or the original sprint home page. I have the centro from sprint since it came out OCT 14th. I have had the same batt, however I do keep a spare one on hand and a car charger if needed.  I am a heavy user on my device, I average about 3,000 min a month, I use the web for anything from CNN, to myspace, ticket master, check my personal banking, look up tickermaster, nba.com, the list goes on and everytime I use another application and go back to the web, it takes a few seconds to reconnect b/c it's not always connected. I also use my email routed through work.
    Unfortunately , palm as made a slim batt. To be used with a slim device like so. My batt will be drained by the evening time, around 6 or 7 eastern time with about 18% of batt life.
    I'll even play games bought from sprint, from 30mins to an hour and more and still using the same batt.
    If you take ur phone to a sprint store and are with in 30 days, they will exchange it, anything over 30 days they will suggest having a tech look at ur device and most likely explain the same things I am.
    Now, there are some settings that can help "conserve" batt life. And if you go into the power option under preferences, it will have a little bubble that says tips in the rt hand corner. That will tell you a few things on how to save batt life. You can also change the power settings for the back light and also make sure the blue tooth is turned off. You can also check your roaming settings, to be at home only, not allow roaming.
    Hope that helps, but most users have poor batt life by the end of the day, this phone is made to use many applications which can drain the batt. life

  • Latest Version of Mavericks running slooooow

    Running OS X 10.9 on my iMac.  Ever since I dowloaded my latest OS update in the last two weeks or so, everything on my computer is running very slow, very clunky.  For the first time since switching to Apple, I feel like I'm back on a dreaded PC.  Anyone else having this problem?  Is there a fix, or a fix in the works?  Thanks.

    Apple won't say if there is a 'fix' & the users here are mostly other Mac users so we can't answer that at all.
    The real question is why is your Mac slow & a lot of other people are OK with 10.9.
    If you have installed lots of software & not updated it there is potential for that to cause issues.

  • Computer running slooooow since I installed Creative Cloud

    I installed Creative Cloud a few months ago on a MacBook Pro, running 10.7.5, with a 2.3GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB of ram and about 100GB of available hard drive space. It's driving me crazy. I'm wondering if there is a setting in Cloud that is constantly scanning for updates or wi-fi, or if anyone else is having this issue. It's like old-school slow waiting for files to process. In most software, i.e. Photoshop, Bridge, excel, Word. Also Firefox.

    Please do not worry. You can just download it from Creative Cloud Help | Install, update, or uninstall apps.
    You have to activate it with your Adobe ID.
    In case the CC has been activated two time, you will have to use the option to deactivate the CC from previous install .This prompt will appear when you will try to activate the CC. Once you choose this option it will allow you to activate the CC on the new machine.

  • Hi Guys G4 Dual 1Gb 1.25Gb Ram internet running slooooow

    other computers on net work OK they are on airport G4 on ethernet do I need to give it more memory and if so How?

    Hi, More Memory always helps, but I don't think that's it at the moment.
    Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
    How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
    In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?
    Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply
    DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
    These Servers have been patched to guard against DNS poisoning, and are faster/more reliable than most ISP's DNS Servers.
    What do you get for raw speeds here, for both Java & Flash, DSL Reports...
    http://www.dslreports.com/stest
    Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON?
    The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
    10.5.x/10.6.x instructions...
    System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

  • My Centro is Getting Replaced? How Do I Back Up the Programs on it?

    Heres the deal. My phone has a cracked screen and Verizon is going to replace it. By doing so I will lose all my programs when I get a new phone. Now what do I do? Is there anyway I can back up all my programs to a memory card and then just pop my memory card in the new phone or am I stuck scouring the net to redownload all my programs and then re-HotSync them all back to the phone? Thanks in advance.
    Also, I just found a program called UniCMD I believe. This claims it can backup everything to my memory card. Would this be a valid program to use to do this? Right now I am backing everything up using it, but I am kinda computer illiterate (well at least cell phone illiterate) so is this the correct type of backup I want? The program can be found here. http://mytreo.net/downloads/unicmd,914.html

    Yep, go with NVBackup as HardBeatZ suggests.  Install it on the Centro and run it.  It will back up everything...your data, applications, preferences, software activation codes, etc.  It also stores a copy of itself on the card.  Then when you get your new Centro, you pop in the card, run NVBackup from the card, select the most recent backup and tap Restore.  You're done.

  • HotSync not including "Assistant Name" & "Assistant Number"

    Hi,
    One of my users is having a strange problem. Using a Palm Centro (Verizon), he syncs to both his office computer and laptop (both running Palm Desktop 6.2.2, with pretty default installations). He just noticed that two fields aren't transfering when he does a hotsync. The data entered for "Assistant Name" and "Assistant Phone" does not transfer, via a sync with the Centro, from the desktop to the laptop, and vice versa. I tried creating new contact entries to test this out, and also wasn't able to get those particular fields to sync. Otherwise, all the other Contact info syncs fine. No errors are reported in the Hotsync log. The Palm Centro is running the latest software version 1.03. Does anyone have advice on how to further troubleshoot this? On a related note, I never found a way to view this particular field on the Centro itself (I wanted to see if I could enter the info there and have it sync successfully to the PC or laptop). Could it be omitting this particular data because the field doesn't exist on the phone??
    Thanks in Advance!
    Andy
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

    That is correct. The data does not sync due to no field on the device to accommodate the data. Now a work around for this would be to use the custom fields and sync that data. On the device you have support up to 4 custom fields. Where as Palm Desktop you have up to 9 I do believe

  • Filesystem "sync" hang

    Hi,
    have a MacPro Leopard Server 10.5.6 with 4 HDD and a iSCSI box attatched. Since a while I have troube. Best way to proof is to enter "sync" in a terminal session. command hangs, Diskutil too.
    No "Disk I/O" message in syslog. Any way to diagnose the problem causer? Is there any "display i/o queue", "display filesystem locks" etc. command build in MacosX?
    Thanks in advance
    Henri

    Hi..  Welcome to the Palm forums. When hotsync hangs at a particular point, 3 of 13 it indicates that there is some data corruption issues.  If this is calendar go to that conduit and set it to do nothing then sync.  If it finishes fine you know that data is the problem.  Then go download dbfixit and install it to your centro and run it and delete or fix the problems it found.  The free version will check for problems and you will have to manually fix / delete them.  If you spend the $12.95 to register it will also fix the problems.  I recently heard of another utility, dbscan, which is free as well and does not require registration for full features.  But I have not tried it so not sure how well it works.  Once you have the corrupted data fixed you can turn the conduit back on and should be able to sync.

  • Palm Centro AT&T Desktop software run time error upon opening

    I previously had a Palm 515m and the associated desktop software.
    Just bought a Centro
    I installed my the Desktop by Access software and was able to syncrinize several times, as well as open and use the software.
    Today I receive the following error and cannot open the desktop software:
    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Libr
    runtime error
    Program: C\ProgramFiles\palm one\palm.exe
    abnormal program termination
    I don't know if it matters, but my computer does sync on a network when I am at the office, and I do get error messages sying it cannot sync my palm files.
    How do I fix this and get my desktop program to function progerly
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

    That may work. If not ill leave this posted. Your IT can walk though my directions as needed to gets this up and running for you.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy. Then go to your desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder delete the whole palm folder. One this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel you are unsure of your self see if you have a friend that can help you or a PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything they need to delete. To help against this we need to do a backup.
    Go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    Easiest way to make sure your doing the right one highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician. BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you did not sync before create a hotsync name.

  • IMac is running so SLOOOOOW...

    I migrated my girlfriend's G3 iBook (10.4) to her new Intel iMac and the machine's been running inexcusably slow, whether it's native or non-native apps. She's got MS Office and Photoshop 7 on there--obviously they run a bit slow and crash now and then, but native things like clicking on the Finder window gives me a long lag.
    I've repaired permissions, rebooted, resolved font duplicates and it's still very slow.
    Any tips?

    Ditto. This is running slower than my old G4.
    I initially bought a G5 iMac, and then with the new one came out 4 days later "upgraded" to the Intel. So far, I haven't seen any evidence that was the right decision.
    I understand some programs are going to run slow, but what I can't understand is why finder is dragging (particularly seems to occur when I wake the machine up from sleeping). Simple things like close/open window make me wait 4 or 5 seconds, and it's frustating. I've repaired permissions and run Applejack, and the thing is still slow. Perhaps more memory would help, but I'd like to hear that first hand from somebody who had the problem and then cured it by adding memory before I blow more money on this thing.

    Hello rpiquette, Welcome to the Palm Support Community!
    Palm has moved away from their legacy operating system (PalmOS) and on to a new one called webOS.  Since Palm Inc. doesn't even own their own software anymore (Palm Desktop) I'd seriously doubt any further support will be forthcoming for Win7, especially for 64-bit architecture.
    Palm Inc. has historically not divulged any "future plans" for software (or hardware).   Will a third-party develop a desktop client?  I have no idea at this point, but the opportunity certainly exists!

  • I delete emails on Centro, but they still take up tons of memory.

    I'm running VersaMail 4.0.1.00 on my Sprint Centro, which carries 68.8MB of usable memory.
    When I go to Info (Menu + I from the Home screen), it tells me that I have <1MB of memory left, primarily because the Email application takes up 38,936K. (There are actually two Email categories listed - with sizes 16K and 38,936K respectively.  They both show Version 4.0.1.00, and as for the number of records, it's "N/A" and 831 respectively.)
    I want to get rid of as much of that 38,936K as possible.
    When I go in the Email application, I delete every possible email, but even after I empty trash it tells me that there remain 47 messages in Trash (marked with an asterisk, for some reason).
    The email is connected to my company's Microsoft Exchange Server.  I'd be willing to delete the entire application, but the Email application isn't visible when I go to Delete (Menu + D from the Home screen).  In fact, even turning on the Centro now results in the error message "The free data storage space on the device is low. Delete applications or data."
    Okay, this is beyond weird and potentially relevant: as I'm typing this very message, the size and records of the aforementioned Email application changed to 29,468K and 674 records, seemingly spontaneously.
    I keep thousands of emails on my company's Microsoft Exchange Server, but I religiously delete emails from the Centro Email application, never having more than 10 or so on there at a time, and none of those carrying applications or anything that would take up lots of memory.
    Even now, I can't understand why the Email application lists all those records and all that memory being used.  If you can tell me how to free up that memory, I'd certainly appreciate it.  Thank you for your time.

    When you are deleting mail, are you also having those messages also deleed from the server? Even if they are in an all mail file and not in your in box, the versa mail still can see them. So, after you delete them, the server is sendin the mail right back to you. You are then stuck in a paradox. I delete, but, I didn't... If you have a seperate file that you can forward them to, a 'new' account. That might help.

  • Centro 5 (garnet) and new iMac OS 10.5.6 Can I use my Mac as an internet connection for Palm?

    I have a Palm Centro through Sprint.  I have cable internet via SBC Global (ATT).  I also have a wireless internet network in my home.  I run a Mac with OS 10.5.6.  I would like to be able to get to the internet on my palm via the bluetooth in my Mac, or I'd even like to get to the internet on my palm via the Mac by connecting to it via USB.
    Obviously, I'm clueless.  I've spent many hours researching this and it seems most people are trying to  use their phone as a modem, but I don't think that's what I want to do since both my Mac and my Centro have bluetooth capability.  I do not want to get a $25 data plan through sprint when I am only accessing while inside my home where my internet capability already is.  I'm not trying to use my phone for internet access.  So, I'm not looking for "Wi-Fi" per se.  Mostly I want to be able to download applications directly to my phone instead of needing to download first to my mac, then install to my phone. Also, I'd like to access my googlemaps page from home.
    My husband has a brand new itouch ipod which he was able to EASILY access our wireless internet through his laptop PC.  Meanwhile, I'm running in circles.  I can't figure out why a smart phone would prevent me from accessing my wireless internet.
