My charging plug was HOT

Is this dangerous? The plug that was attached to the wall was very hot when I unplugged the iPad ini

Warm is normal, 'too hot to handle' (literally) is not. if it's too hot to safely handle then stop using it and take it back to your apple store. If it's due to a manufacturer's defect it would be covered under the warranty. Or you can simply purchase a replacement. Although I would suggest that you either buy apple branded or a trusted brand, like Belkin, Targus, Kensington etc and don't go for a really cheap no-name off ebay.
Really cheap no name chargers may not be built to the same quality standards as brand name ones and if a cheap no name damages your device then it's doubtful the warranty will help with any damage.

  • Plug gets hot when charging iPad mini

Hi, I charged my new iPad mini for the 1st time today, for just over an hour. It reached 50% and the plug felt dangerously hot. Is this a fault with the charger which was supplied with the mini or the mini iPad? Has anyone else experienced this issue? Why is it happening and is it dangerous?
    Thank you

It does not sound normal. I suggest yopu take it Apple and allow them to check it out.
When you take it to Apple begin your charger and cable.

  • My ipad air charging plug is getting hot. Should I be concerned?

My original iPad Air had to be replaced because of a hardware problem. Then my charging cord also had to be replaced. Now I am noticing that my charging plug is getting hot. Should I be concerned? Thanks. This is the plug on the end of the charging cord that came with my iPad, of course.

Make sure you are using the 10W/12W charger.
5W charger will get hot if you use it to charge the iPad.

  • My ipad wont turn on? When it was charging last night and this morning it was hot when i picked it up, what should i do?

I put my ipad to charge at night like every other day and this morning it was turn off and it was hot, i dont know what it is and i would like some help please

Let it cool down, then reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • HT201412 My iPod touch 4G won't charge. I charged it and when I took it off charge it was really hot but it showed it was fully charge then when I turn it on the battery was dead and know it won't charge. Please help thanks.

My iPod touch 4G will not charge. I charged it and when I got it off charge it was really hot but showed it was fully charge then when I turned it on again the battery was dead. Now it won't charge. Please help thanks!

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
I suspect you have a hardware problem.

    Hello rj_23_sv,
I would be be concerned too if I was not able to update my iPhone.  If you have not resolved the issue, I recommend following article for an issue like this:
iOS: Unable to update or restore

As always, it is a good idea to create a backup before hand:

  • My apple iP ad and charger plug keep getting very hot. I have tried resetting it but this doesn't help. Please can anyone help?

please can you help? My apple I pad min version 7.1 (11D167) model MD531B/a. Capasity 13.4 GB keeps getting very hot and the charger plug. It seem to run down quickly too. It's been going on for a long time now. I have tried resetting it but this does nothing. Kind regards Rosemary.

    Hi Rosemary,
These devices will get very warm (even uncomfortably so) when charging. From my own experience this is exacerbated if the device is in use at the time of charging or if the device is in a case that does not allow air to reach the device.
You will see a warning on the iPad's display in the form of a yellow triangle and exclamation mark long before the device reaches a dangerous temperature.
As long as the device is no warmer than a nice cup of coffee, you're in the clear.
As you have mentioned that your battery is draining quickly, this could indicate that the processes running at the time are rather intensive on the iPad's resources and this would naturally raise the temperature of the iPad.
If you have a look in Settings>General>Usage and look for the Standby and Usage times toward the bottom, are the two numbers significantly different? If you see that the Usage and Standby times are identical then you are experiencing a software issue where the device is not entering sleep as it should when not in use.
    Cheers

The backlight burned out from getting it wet. You will have to replace the screen at a 3rd party shop, buy a screen and replace it yourself, or make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and do an out-of-warranty replacement for $199 USD.

  • Just Purchased MBA; the Charger gets VERY hot

I just purchased the Macbook Air. When I plug it in, the Charger gets very hot after a few minutes and if I listen closely, there is a faint hissing. I assume this is not normal, correct?

I plugged my late 2010 MBA 13 in recently and then after about 20 minutes, needed to move it and the charger to another outlet. I had never paid any attention to how warm this charger can get. It was so hot, I could barely hold it. I checked it a few minutes later and it wasn't any hotter, but not any cooler either. It's will be a year this month since I bought this computer so the warranty is set to expire.
    Good thing for AppleCare...

  • IPhone not charging and using more battery power while on charger and getting hot

I have an iPhone 4 and have had issues with it charging.  This has happened 3-4 times over the past few months, where I put it on the wall charger prior to going to sleep and wake up with 17-20% battery power.  Last night I placed it on the charger with approximately 70% battery power.  I believe it charged to 100%, I left it on the charger and when I woke this morning the phone was hot (hotter than charging it with the USB) and the power was at 17%.  Any suggestions on what I can do to rectify this issue?  After the iOS upgrade it did and I reset the phone, ran the power completely out and charged 100%.  I don't have any more apps open than usual.  Thanks for any help you can provide!

Having a similar problem with my 3G IPhone.  Battery life is fine but once I plug it in to charge it won't charge.  I have to reset my phone and then it will start to charge as long as I unplug it and then plug it in again.  This problem is something that is intermittent.  I reinstalled the firmware but the problem did not go away. Something that I have noticed is that when this takes place usually the GPS function cannot find my current location at the same time. Once the phone is rest the GPS is fine. The fact that I have reloaded the firmware and the problem has not gone away leads me to think that this is a hardware problem. Well we will see soon I am going to take it in to get checked out. This is sort of annoying but I love the IPhone it is great!!!!

  • HP Battery, Is It OK to keep the charger plugged in ?

    Hi All
This is my first question here and I hope you'll help me
I want to ask if it is OK to keep the charger plugged in the laptop while the battery is full ?
I mean when the battery is 100%, will the energy go directly to the PC or it will go to the battery before ?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Nowadays batteries should be smart enough to stop getting charged when full. I can't see the difference from removing and keeping batteries on AC, some machines sit on docking stations all the times and some machines can be ON/OFF. This is my reply to another post:

  • ZMP Charging/Plug I

I have had my ZMP for about 2 weeks. It did not come with a DC charger so I must charge it from the USB. I have the lastest firmware installed. My problem is, the player never seems to fully charge. Actually I think that it charges and maybe fully, but i never get the charge icon to change from blinking lighting bolt to the fully charged plug. I think that i have tried everything and read over many post about this issue but I still can not the icon to change to the fully charged plug. Any help greaty apperacted.

<SPAN>It has been charging for 2+ hours. I will elaborate; it seems like the player is charging and after a few hours it will stop pulsating. But I have never been able to see the total charge ?plug? icon. I have the player plugged into a USB on the back of the PC and not through a USB hub. I have had the Zen Micro before and did not have this issue, but I was also using the DC charger that came with it. Let me know what else I can answer for you. I appreciate your help.

  • Leaving charger plugged in-good or bad idea?

While the MagSafe connector is really nice, it leads me to ask whether it's wise (or safe) to leave the charger plugged in continuously, as it does get warm. I've looked but cannot find any information on power draw when charger is connected vs unconnected to the MacBook.
Does anyone know the recommendation for leaving plugged or unplugging a charger by a knowledgable source who knows how these devices are engineered?
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2GB Apple RAM

    I now have further information.
After charging, the power adapter is warm to hot.
After running with power connected, the power adapter is warm to hot.
After disconnecting the MagSafe connector (and letting time pass), the power adapter(while still plugged into the wall) is cool to the touch.
I am therefore concluding that there is some active circuitry in the power adapter that senses (or responds to) the MagSafe connector being engaged, and that reduces the power draw and heat deterioration of the power adapter.
As always, an answer from an authoritative source would be nice.
