My cheek/ear selects things on touch screen while taking calls. Proximity sensor problem?

Hello all
Had my X3 Compact for a couple of months now and really liking it.
APART from the fact then when I am on a call the screen still seems to be a little sensitive to touch.
I hear beeps of things being selected. Very often when I finish the call I see the screen is on Notifications or Quick Settings screen, or sometimes the Date and Time screen. Sometimes I notice that my cheek/ear has turned on Bluetooth from the Quick Settings screen.
Sometimes while on a long call (ie more time in which to involuntarily press things) the other person will suddenly not hear me anymore - no doubt due to imprecise cheek/ear selection!
Is there something wrong with the Proximity Sensor? I have tested the Sensor with the available diagnostic and it seems functional. And my peripheral vision tells me that the screen goes black as I raise the phone to my ear.
I've heard that this model can occasionally overheat, but I've never noticed/felt any dramatic peaks in temperature.
But something is clearly wrong.
As I said I have tested the Proximity Sensor.
I have not dropped or damaged my phone.
I do not use any kind of screen protector or case.
My software is up to date.
Any thoughts/ideas would be very welcome!!
(I have contracted the phone the EE in the UK - I have not contacted them yet as I thought it would be best to go straight to the manufacturers.)
Thanks very much
Jamie

Well I have been facing this issue since the first day itself and this isnt any issue at all!!
What happens is when we answer a call, out phone isnt in lock state and also we arent holding our phone constantly in one position to our ears/cheeks so theres rubbing of the screen (due to our ears/cheek) which eventually swipes down the Status bar Quick settings and then randomly turns on any feature icon our ear.cheek touches. And we keep hearing some beeps.
So what I do is once I answer a call I always make it a point/habit to manually lock the phone via Power button. This way I have found my personal solution to this problem.
And this is the only solution for this nagging issue
Also if you want, you can completely remove all icons which bother you from Quick settings so that even if your phone isnt locked while on call, nothing will get activated in the background.
So follow my steps and enjoy your Z3 without worrying about this issue.

  • Phone works great but when on a call proximity sensor kicks in turns off the screen. When I pull the phone away from my head screen is still blank. The force hangup/lock is the only way to bring the screen back on

    hi,
phone works great but when on a call proximity sensor kicks in turns off the screen. When I pull the phone away from my head screen is still blank. The force hangup/lock is the only way to bring the screen back on.
I purchaged it before one month onl. So i wont understand how it comes. Please help me. I am waiting for you reply.

"Your face is so ugly, it broke your phone!" Ha ha. Get it? How I was joking there? About your iPhone not working correctly after... <sigh>
But seriously, you said the situation only happens when you have been on a long call, so maybe the iPhone is just autolockng?

  • My 5s is randomly operating itself - self selecting series of buttons with no touch of the touch screen.  Anyone else have this problem?

I have the 5s and about 4 times so far, the phone has gone completely rouge and started operating menu buttons on its own.
It usually starts with unresponsive touch screen and then the phone will completely crazy just running on its own, self selecting a series of random buttons and keys. From that point forward, I can actually sit and watch (not touching the screen), the phone go haywire.  It looks like someone is just randomly hitting phone keys, but no one is.  The only way I can get it to stop is to do a hard reboot.  Sometimes that does not even work and I have to reboot several times or even turn the phone off for a period of time.
Is anyone else having a similar problem?  I would love to show this to an Apple employee at the Genius bar, but I cannot purposely replicate when it occurs.  It is very random.
Note: each IOS update has not seemed to help resolve the problem.

Follow Diesel vdub's advice. Plug your phone into itunes and preform a restore. Then, restore your phone from a backup and see if it fixes it. If not, restore the phone but wait on putting your backup back. See if it works. If not, it looks like its a hardware issue.
It does sound to me like the digitizer (the glass, basically) has gone bad and needs to be replaced. I would visit your local Apple Store after trying a few restores from iTunes.

  • Problem with touch screen sensitivity, makes calls randomly when I have it against my ear!

I am at my wits end about this.as I am on the phone and have handset against my ear it randomly activates the touch screen and either dials someone else or put call on hold, so they can't hear me. By the time I figure out what has happened, whoever I was speaking to has likely hung up! I tried to adjust screen sensitivity but nothing I do seems to work. Same when I use track pad to scroll, it is way too sensitive, so often I am scrolling through my calendar and it will open a new appointment randomly. Is there a solution before I break this terrible phone with a hammer?!

Your first problem ( I am on the phone and have handset against my ear it randomly activates the touch screen and either dials someone else or put call on hold, so they can't hear me.) can be solved by putting the top of the device near to your ear first and then the rest while on the call - their are sensors in the phone that blackout the display when in a call the top of the device is brought closer to the face

  • Touch screen while calling

    Hello everybody.
My z2 has the problem that when i'm calling someone, even if the screen is off, the touch screen works and with the cheek the phone goes in the menu and sometimes in airplane mode.
    THIS IS SO ANNOYING.
It's a good phone, but the software is really bad. It has many things that have to be changed or fixed.

Mine's doing this too - unless I keep the phone tightly clamped to my ear to the degree that it becomes painful, i end up cutting people off or putting them on hold.
The only way I can confidently use the phone as a phone is by using a headset or the handsfree in the car.

  • My touch screen in freezing , what's the problem

HI my touch screen is not working , it's freezing what would be the problem and how can I fix it

    Hi Amanal1976,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature and scope of the issue you are describing. If you are having issues with touchscreen response on your iPhone, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • Freezing, touch screen doesnt work, call buttons d...

Hi, ever since i updated my phone with that necessary update that kept bugging me my phone has been freezing and the touch screen doesnt work. It usually works fine after a night of charging, but that's just annoying and i shouldnt be doing this if the phone costs so much and ive only had it for half a year.

dont know what phone you have but go software update program (back up) and reinstall the latest software again via pc is better
it works for me in the past

  • If my iPhone 3GS turns on but cannot use the touch screen, could the Processor be the problem?

I recently dropped my iPhone 3GS but cannot use the touch screen. I took to a local repair shop and they tried replacing the digitizer and some other items but still could not get it to work. They advised that the Processor could be the problem. Is this true? If so, can the processor be replaced without losing data? Additionally, my phone has a lock code and when I try to connect it to my desktop to back up, it states that I need to enter my 4 digit pin first, which of course I cannot. Any workarounds here or am I SOL?

Hook the phone to a computer running iTunes and backup to the computer. Copy pictures off the phone manually to the computer.

  • Blank screen while making calls

hi! im getting blank screen when im making a call,i have checked if its a problem with the proximity sensor but its not.
the screen just goes blank when i hit the call button and i can do nothing for example to end the call or etc.. all i can do to get the screen activated is by pressing the power button but by the time the call is disconnected..hmm ..anyone with the same problem????

This really bad if you can't put the iPhone 3G in a case. What was Apple thinking? They need to explain what the impact is that these sensors have on use of the iPhone so that users can actually use the device to make a phone call.

  • Why does my selection on the touch screen jump around?

Throughout the day my phone starts selecting the wrong item on my iphone; if I select contacts it brings up something else like email, if I select back it tries to delete, try to scroll up or down and it jumps around. I've restored my phone twice, restarted, updated it, made sure it's fully charged, and while there are times it works fine, it inevitably goes back to this problem. Sometimes if I lay it flat or turn it to landscape it will work ok, but more often than not, it doesn't.
I'm past my warranty and want to find a fix without buying a new phone. I need help!!!!

    Sync everything to the computer.
    Restore as new.  Test.
If problem persists, call Apple and arrange a repair.  I doubt if you'll need to.  It is most likely a software issue and the restore should fix it.  If it does turn out to be hardware, an out of warranty repair would be $199.  Not cheap, but cheaper than buying a new phone before being elligible to upgrade.

  • The horizontal line has been appiered at the bottom of the touch screen. In addition to that problem the screen starts blinking after 3-5 minutes of use. I bought it 4 months ago.

Please help me to resolve a problem with my iPod touch. It has horizontal line at the bottom of the screen and screen starts blinking after 3 minutes of use. It's so frustrating as I bought just 4 months ago and didn't even think tha apple products have such defects.

All electical producs have defects.  Apple products are not immune.
To rule out a software problem try:
    - A reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
    - If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.  If the iPod is defective you will walk out with a replacment.

  • Lock screen while being called

Hi, I am not sure if this thing is possible or its just me. I have seen it on Android OS, but not on iOS or BB OS. While someone is calling me I simply dont want either to answer or to reject; I just want to lock the screen so I can put the Phone back into my pocket, so no accidental answer or reject may occur.
Can someone tell me if this is a real issue or its just me who doesnt know the Phone very well yet.
    Thank you!

    No.

  • Getting blank screen while taking F1 help in SAP.

    Hi all,
When I take F1 help for any text in SAP, I'm getting a blank screen instead of the Documentation/ explanation.
Also at times, I'm getting blank windows for some of the standard errors & for some standard program's documentation.
Heard it is a problem due to some missing patch...while installing SAP.
How to install this missing patch?
Any advise to rectify this problem would be of great help.
    Regards,
    Vamsee Priya.

if you had any recent IE (internet explorer) updated revert it back, some times that will fix this as well.... or have a latest version 7.0 of GUI.
The official download site for patches for the SAP GUI for Windows and the SAP GUI for Windows installation is the "Software Center" on the "SAP Service Marketplace": http://service.sap.com/swcenter-main (password is required).[ more>>>|http://www.saptechies.com/faq-gui-patches/]

  • Freeze screen after phone calls end, upgrade problem

Upgraded my 3Gs iphone to the last version software last week. Started to eperience problems with phone calls after the upgrade. A major problem is When incoming phone calls end, the screen freezes and does not let me do anything even cannot turn the phone off. anybody has a soloution?

I too am experiencing this problem. It's only been a few days now, ever since I upgraded the OS and installed the latest version of iTunes last week.
I don't know what the problem is, but I'm sick of it.
Whenever I MAKE or RECEIVE a call, my screen freezes up and I can't do anything, not even a hard reboot.
I dropped out of a call to someone and when they rang back I couldn't answer it. So very frustrating.
As I write this I've just taken a call from my husband, hung up the call, and now the phone is as useful as a paperweight because I can't get any function to work on it, not even the hard reboot.
If anyone from Apple is listening...What the **** is going on here?????

Hi, Khushi6. Have you tried adjusting the Touch sensitivity? If it's set to normal, try setting it to high. Let us know if there's any difference or if the performance has improved.
BTW, since you have updated the device to WP 8.1, resetting the device is our option given that the above steps didn't work. Go to Settings > about > reset your phone. As this will delete all the files on your phone, please create a backup copy of your files first. Go to Settings > backup to do this. Once you performed the hard reset, you don't need to worry as the phone will still have the Lumia Cyan update. However, you may need to update the system apps on your device. Please refer to the below link:
