Most likely your router uses a wireless standard that is too new for the AirPort card in your iBook to communicate with.

When my iphone connects to wifi, everything else in my house will not connect to the internet. They all show 3 to 4 bars on connection strength, but unable to access the internet. The second I turn off the wifi on my iphone, everything in my house runs fine. What is going on?
Had a similar problem a number of years ago with a laptop my daughter had. The probelm turned out to be the router. What kind of router do you have? Have you checked for firmware updates, or at least tried re-booting it?

I have an iPhone 4s, but wifi the option is greyed out. The wifi stopped working on it months ago. Now I wanted to erase all content and setting from my old 4s and it will not connect to the internet, because the cellular data is no longer connected, since I bought a new iPhone 5c. I can't erase my phone by pluggin it into my Macbook Pro, since I can't disable the "Find my iPhone" App without internet. How do I erase all the data and setting on my 4s without connecting to the internet? It is running ios 7

Too bad my 4S is 2 years old. Wifi is dead. I had to upgrade to 5S, but 5S is soooooo much faster than 4S so it's kind of good outcome. Without the 4S breaking down, a stingy person like me would have never upgraded the phone. -
My iPad Mini with retina display suddenly will not connect to the Internet. It shows full wifi bars, yet no web pages will load. My Internet is working with all other apple devices in my house. The iPad also no longer works with celluar data. I'm not sure what has happened. It was working fine a few hours ago. I have tried resetting it, ive restarted my browser etc. I tried to erase all data from my Ipad but I can't do that because it needs to sign into my Apple ID and use the Internet!
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

My iPad2 will not connect to the internet, "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding". I've run the AirPort utility and it shows that I'm connected to my Wi-Fi. The connection works with both my iMac and iPhone. I'm concerned that the problem is with hardware rather than software.
Try the following:
1. Turn router off for 30 seconds and on again
2. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
3. Reset iPad; hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo -
When I go to iTunes and then check for updates. I can not do this action due to the fact iTunes will not connect to the internet although the internet is working just fine, what do I do to fix this issue? Apparently I am currently using iTunes 7.0.
If you're really using iTunes 7.0 you are very far behind the current version - maybe it is trying to connect to a decomissioned server. In fact I am kind of surprised it will run on a Macbook Air. Are you sure you are running iTunes 7?
-
my ipad2 will not connect to the internet, it says that it "unable to join"...but my laptop is connected to the internet.... i don't understand why all of a sudden it stopped connecting it dosent make sense.
hmm, well I would say that raises the possibility of an issue with your ipad, and lessens one with your router.

After downloading the Firefox 3.6.15 update, my problems began. Firefox would not connect to the Internet. When I rebooted my PC, Firefox said that it couldn't access any Web sites. I uninstalled Firefox, then downloaded and installed Firefox 3.6.15. I still have the same problem: Firefox will not connect to the Internet. I am running Windows XP, service pack 3. I never had problems with Firefox until I installed version 3.6.15.
I have XP Pro. I tried installing 3.6.15 and could not open it. I did a system restore and 3.6.14 would no longer open. I tried again installing 3.6.15 and got a message that the previous version had not uninstalled properly. Tried uninstalling.
As a precaution I used MozBackup to save my bookmarks etc. and also saved a system restore point.
I then clicked Start, My Computer, drive C, Program Files and deleted the Firefox folder.
I installed 3.6.15 and it is now working fine with all my bookmarks and addons loaded automatically. -
My laptop compaq presario will not connect to the Internet anymore after buying airport extreme. Why? It detects the network, accepts my password, but will not connect to Internet. I tried to repair connection, tried to reboot modem several times, I even updated my computer. Nothing. All it says is that it does not detect modem. Why?
Welcome to the support community group.
First, are you sure that your AirPort Extreme has been configured correctly and is properly connected to your modem?
Begin by telling us how you have things connected and if the Airport Extreme is replacing a previously owned router or is this an entirely new installation?
First be sure that your modem is working and properly connects you to the internet using an ethernet cable directly connected to your laptop. Once you're sure that's working, reset the AirPort to factory defaults by disconnecting it from power and pressing and holding in the small reset button on the back for 15 - 20 seconds while you reconnect it to power. Then turn everything off for 5 minutes. Connect the Airport to your modem with and ethernet cable to the Airport WAN port on the back (check the user guide to make sure you connect the cable to the correct port) then connect a second ethernet cable between the laptop and one of the LAN ports on the AirPort Extreme.
Then power up the modem first, wait 5 minutes and then power up the Airport, wait 5 minutes and finally power up your laptop.
Then run the airport configuration utility from your laptop. Since you're not using an Apple computer, be sure that all of your firewall, and virus blocking and checking software is disabled before you run the airport configuration utility. Once you run the utility, it should detect your AirPort and allow you to use the configuration wizard to set things up.
Check back if you're still having problems. -
My iPad will NOT connect to the internet.
My iPad will NOT connect to the internet..
After learning I was signed out of my iMessage AND my Facetime, I tried to sign in through settings.. After several failed attempts, I reset my network settings. When the iPad turned back on, I tried to connect to my internet and it repeatedly told me my password was wrong. After many attempts at trying the password, and making sure I typed everything correctly, it would NOT connect. I have followed at least fifty websites' directions on how to fix this problem but it will NOT work.... Help? The correct password is printed on your router's label.

My ipad will not connect to the internet unless the security is disabled.
My ipad will not connect to the internet unless the security is disabled. this was the diagnosis of the belkin router support tech, who spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with me. my service provider is new -- one link. (Apple does not provide tech support to puerto rico after the 90 day free service expires.)
Read this for suggestions: iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
Especially note the section on using WEP security keys. In fact, if you are using WEP for security, change to WPA2. WEP has been deprecated by the WiFi Alliance since 2004 as insecure. It can be cracked in seconds with widely available S/W. -
My laptop will not connect to the internet
My laptop will not connect to the internet but my desktop and other laptops will. Can anyone suggest anything?
Yes I don't see problems there.
I presume the 10.0.2.29 on the Mac is just a typo.
There is a good chance windows is just being stupid, which is not surprising.
Reboot the whole system.
Restart in correct order.. modem.. TC.. 2min gap between them, and then PC.
Test with just the PC running.
See if you can open a web page.. no luck
In the command window again, ping the various IP addresses.
So ping 10.0.1.1 first.
Then ping 8.8.8.8
If those pings work, then try and ping a website. eg www.google.com
Does that work or not?
If ping works and the web pages won't open that is one of those hard ones.
Make sure under network in the PC it is located at home.. not work or public. Windows has this nasty habit of flipping itself autonomously between these settings.. take off the firewall if it is still a problem.
And finally go into the TCP/IP settings and change the DNS to 8.8.8.8 -
Itunes will not connect to the internet
My sister just downloaded Itunes to her computer for the first time and it will not connect to the internet. Her phone is in restore mode and I dont know what to do now. It says the server timed out as soon as I try to do anything on itunes. My internet on the computer is working fine....any suggestions?
- What version of iTunes are you running?
7.1.1.5
- What is the exact error message you're getting?
itunes could not connect to the itunes store. The network connection has timed out.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again.
- Do you have any other privacy filter installed, or any antivirus or antispyware software?
You know, I was just looking again after I read this, and it appears there is a program (Check Point Integrity Client) that could be causing an issue, but I'm not sure what IP address I would need to put in there.
- Can iTunes connect to Gracenote to get album names when you import from a CD?It cannot.
It would probably be useful if you'll run the Network Diagnostics (choose the Run Diagnostics item under the iTunes Help menu) and post the results here.

The network can see the macs and the macs can see the network......but the macs can't see the internet.Hi Duncan
MacFixit recently posted a report for subscribers testing 3rd party routers for Mac compatibility. 3 Routers did not do very well in the test:
From their report:
Routers:
MacSense [Fair]
Expressed support for Macs
Somewhat confusing process for installing firmware updates under Mac OS X
Manuals still show only Mac OS 9 screenshots/instruction
D-Link [Fair]
Mac-specific section on Web site with ostensibly compatible routers
Lack of Mac technical support
Firmware updates appear to apply specifically to Windows-related issues
Mac-specific "Quick Install" guides missing for most wireless router models -- even those listed in the Mac section
Some routers must be configured only with Firefox or an alternative browser -- Safari will not work
Reader comment: "I recently exchanged email with their tech support and was specifically informed that D-Link does not support Macs for any of their products and specifically does not recommend their use on Macs. Although many D-Link products will work on a Mac, as a user you are on your own. D-Link will not provide any direct or indirect support according to their tech support."
Linksys [Poor]
Technically Mac-compatible but lacking in Mac-specific documentation or setup software
No Mac technical support
Thought this info might be useful as you look into your router situation.
