My Classic only plays into one ear

My iPod Classic (80G) which is less than a year old, now only sends signals into one side of ANY kind of speaker (earphones, car, external speakers, you name it). Is there anything I can do to fix it myself or would I have to take it to the local Apple Store? Or is this one of those "intended obsolescence" things to make me go out and buy a new 120G or a Touch?
Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If your iPod is less than a year old, then it should still be covered under warranty. Since it sounds as though you have already established it is a problem with the iPod, you should contact Apple (or go to an Apple Store if one is convenient) and have it replaced.
If the iPod is actually past warranty, it should be fixable. There are web sites you can visit that sell parts and instructions (such as http://www.ifixit.com) as well as places you can send your iPod to for repair (http://www.iresq.com is an example of one). You can google "ipod repair" to find other, similar sites.

Has my headset only plays in one ear. Is it broken ? or is it the phone? whats going on? will apple replace my headset or phone?

Are you sure you have the jack pushed all the way into the port? It's a bit recessed. If so, take it to the store (make an appointment with a "genius" first, you can do that online http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/)to see if it's a defective head set or phone. IF defective they will most likely replace it on the spot.

I see that you are having some issues with your headphones. It does sound like a hardware issue with the headphone jack if this happens with multiple sets of headphones. You try reinstalling your IDT High Definition Audio driver. If that doesn't work then I would recommend calling HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or visit this link if you are outside of North America.

  • Headphones only play in one ear

My Apple headphones started only working in one ear on my iPhone 4s. I tried the headphones in other devices and they work fine. I tried different headphones on my phone and they do work in both ears. However they do not work with the device that I use to listen to my phone in my car.

Interesting.  Well, thanks for sharing that with us.

  • Music only plays in one ear, ipod nano 5th generation

My ipod nano 5th gen had been acting up since january, the sound would be popping on and off in one ear but the other would be fine. I thought it was the earphones so I kept buying new ones, but still it didn't change much, so then around march, it finally just stop playing in one ear. I'm pretty sure that there's a problem with my headphone jack, and I can see that inside, you know the two bumps, the top one is kind of inside my ipod. I don't really know what to do! Help me, please!

You will have to replace the headphone jack in the iPod.

  • My 3gs has stopped playing through the speakers and when the headphones are plugged in only plays through one ear? it still ring when called and everything else seems fine, whats the problem? it seems like the phone thinks the earphones are always in?

my 3gs has stopped playing music through the speakers, they play with headphones but only through one ear. It seems the phone thinks the headphones are in all the time. The ringer still works when called and i have cleaned the headphone socket the best i can without damaging the phone! Any ideas?

I had the same issue, 4s running ios8, but the plugging and unplugging the headphones did not work, BUT, when I tried plugging and unplugging from the DOCK, it started to work again. There must have been a short in the power plug, not the headphones. I also blew out the bottom power plug with computer safe airjet. Hope this one helps anyone else having the issue.

  • Headphones.....only playing in one ear....help please!

My husband had to cut the headphone wires that came with my ipod because they got tangled up in his rolling chair. Long story short he was paying more attention to his PC game then his 2 year old daughter who knocked down my work bag to play with it. My Ipod is in a pocket in the bag since I use it at work, music teacher, and she was able to get to it. Half my fault half his....lol.
Any way, she was watching a Dora episode on it when he rolled his chair back and onto the headphone wires thus tangling them in his wheels....my daughter had the volume up loud enough to hear her show through them. They got so tangled he had to cut them so he went straight out and bought me a new pair of Phillips Color Tunes Music Couleurs (purple to match ipod) that say: ALSO FOR IPOD.
Tried them last night and they only WORK IN THE RIGHT EAR! So I what do I do? How do I get them to work in both ears? Is there a special setting I need to do?

It can either be a problem of the new earphones or the earphone jack of your iPod.
If another earphones has the same problem = the iPod need to be serviced
If another earphones works = your new earphones needs to be replaced

  • Iphone 5 - headphones only playing in one ear

I have an iphone5 (7.1.2) and use the headphones (original apple ones that come w/ the phone) for 90% of my phone calls.  The sound only comes through on the left earbud.  Is there a setting I can change to get it in stereo?
    Thank you in advance!

The problem might be with the headphones try using them on a different device to see if the problem is with the headphones instead of something with the phone. I have had headphones in the past where on the the earbuds was still working fine but the other was dead.

  • Music only plays in one ear

well i checked my head phones and they are not the problem
i have also put in different head phones same prob
i think the problem is there might have gotten some dirt in the headphone spot. any clues how to get that dirt out.
cause if u wiggle the headphone wire by the ipod u can occaionally get it to work.
I want to stick something in the hole to maybe clean it out but i dont know what or want to ruin my ipod
ohh and if it matters i have a 30gb video ipod
    thanks

not sure how old your iPod is, but i'm assuming warranty has run out hence you have not simply taken it in for service. the quandary is, you could stick something in to dislodge the dirt that might not work and wind up in a worse (ie more costly to repair) situation.
what i would do in the same situation is take it in to a service desk and see if they think the same as you and ask how much repairs might cost. i would also ask if a few bursts of compressed air might do the trick and, depending on what their verdict is, try that. it might also be worth it to hit a couple of service desks if you don't have a trusted one already.
failing all of that, and if you are feeling terribly brave, a pointed stick
    good luck!

My ipod just stopped playing in the left ear for no reason. I haven't dropped it or anything. It's not the headphones, I have tried the same headphones on other electronics and they play fine. I have tried multiple pairs of headphones and they all only play in one ear

Some Internet providers that limit access to a single device at a time do so by the device's hardware MAC address. If your ISP is one of those, you may be able to substitute the MAC address of your AirPort Express base station for the computer. I would suggest that you contact them to find out if this is allowable.

I have an ipod touch and the head phones only work in one ear.... Have tried them in my iphone and the headphones work fine
    Any ideas

    - Insert and remove the headphone plug a dozen times or so
    - Restore the iPod. Try to factory defaults/new iPod too.
    - If still problem then you have a hardware problem. Like the headphone jack is bad.

If you have all your music on the cmputer then i would connect up my phone uncheck the Sync Music option and apply.
This should take all the music off your phone .Then you can resync the music back on to it.
If this doesn't work maybe a restore to factory settings and start from scratch is the way to go
