My click wheel don't respond!

Yeah, my Ipod (video) is frozen even after the reset? The click wheel doesn't respond but the battery is full.
I can open it by turning the hold on to off, but the click wheel doesn't work, I don't know what to do!

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
What happens when you press play? Does it play anything? Do the buttons work?
Also, you may want to try a restore as well...

  • Part of Click Wheel Does Not Respond

When gliding my finger in a circular motion on the Click Wheel, there is no response in the "3-6" area (if you look at the wheel as a clock). The rest of the wheel responds fine.
I was having an issue where the wheel was massively over sensitive, just the slightest touch would cause the highlighted item to change erratically. I solved that issue by doing a reset (switch the hold slider on/off, hold down the menu/select buttons).
This is looking to be a physical hardware problem. Any advice?
My ipod is about 6 months old.
    Thanks
    Walter

I have the same problem with my brand new IPOD 3 weeks old. I can't click move or do anything.
Should I restore? I bought it in US and back home in Thailand. But the problem is no Apple store in Thailand. I can send it to my friend and ask him to restore and sand back to me but I'm afraid about warranty period? What should I do?
    Thank You

  • Click wheel is not responding

The click wheel, select button, menu button, and play buttons, are not responding on my ipod. I think it is a first generation nano, so it is pretty old but still works (or, worked) so I haven't bought a new one. And it was given to me. I tried restoring it but now it is just stuck on the language selection screen and the buttons still won't respond when I want to do something. I can reset it still, so I know that the select and menu buttons will respond when I do that, but I can't do anything else. Any suggestions?

    Hello sphipps23,
There isn't much else you can do in terms of troubleshooting at this point.  It is likely a hardware issue related to the iPod's click wheel.  You can have it serviced by Apple (for quite a cost), a third party repair company, or you can even choose to do it yourself.

  • IPod click wheel suddenly stopped responding. Cant click anything.

My iPod recently developed a clicking problem. It first started out days ago that I had to click stuff twice, or hard, for it to respond, but last night, it just stopped responding completely. The scroll still works, I can scroll up and down, but i can't click anything, not the menu button, or the play, or the middle button. Does any one have an idea of what could have caused this??? Is it a hardware or software thing?! Help!

My boss just brought me his iPod and he is having a similar problem, however I cannot fix it so easily.
He has an iPod classic, 160 GB. The scroll wheel works most of the time. Sometimes it's need some love to cooperate, but nothing that is supposed to click works. It makes the clicking noise, but does not do anything. I have tried over and over to reset it in hopes of fixing it, but the center button seems to have stopped working as well.
I've looked all over the site to try and find someone to call to see if we can send it in to get fixed. My boss has not had this iPod very long. I can't seem to find anything helpful.
    Any suggestions?

  • Please Help! click wheel doesn't respond at all!

I was running with my brand stinking new ipod 60 gb color and then when i tried to use the clickwheel, it did not respond at all. The play and menu and all the other buttons including select won't work and i can't scroll using the clickwheel. I'm in Israel for the year, so I'm hoping I don't have to ship it to USA and then to APPLE cuz that can take months... so hopefully someone knows the solution. Please help. Im extremely distressed

I see that you are from Austin. My wife and I just moved from there 2 1/2 months ago... we sure miss Texas. I didn't think that I would be so attached. I am a Longhorn and really miss driving downtown and see the orange tower after a Longhorn victory.

  • Click Wheel does not respond

Its been a while since I stopped using my ipod ever since the buttons in the ipod stopped responding. The ipod is recognized in my computer and everything seems to work fine, the display in the ipod as well and the hold switch too. I already upgraded itunes and restored my ipod, nothing seems to work. Ipod was essential for me because I used to run daily and listening to music while running just boosts my motivation. Help please?

Am I the only one having this problem? I would call the apple tech support but I would first like to know whether or not they can fix it and how much would it cost, paying to contact them just so they tell me I have to buy a new ipod is not very convincing..

  • I spilt some Pop on my ipod, now the click wheel isn't responding.

The Title says the just of it. Any suggestions, other than sending it in?
    Please, I need some help.

  • Ipod nano click wheel not responding

Take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Battery/Click Wheel Crisis!

Ok i have a referbished ipod mini 1st generation. the first one had some problems and now it seems this one they gave me has even more! The battery lasts about 3 hours max. and on occassion it'll be dead and then I'll plug it in and it claims it's done charging! That was my first problem and all of the sudden I'm having click wheel issues. If the back light goes out the click wheel will stop responding! My ipod died a minute after being charged for an hour. I pressed Select and Play (a friend told me this is how you can really see the battery status) and then all of the sudden a check mark shows up and "It's ok to remove your ipod" or something like that shows up and at the top it says enable disk use which i didn't! And now the click wheel won't respond.. at all. Can someone please help me or atleast tell me what went wrong? Thank you.

You should try here if you want a replacement battery (or somewhere like it).

There are many cheaper and better batteries out there than the ones Apple provide. Google 'iPod batteries'.

  • Click wheel frozen

    Hi folks,
I have a nano chromatic, which has been fine for a while but today the click wheel is not responding.
It responds as normal if I shake it (ie it shuffles and starts playing a random song), however none of the buttons work. I can't even turn it off!
I have managed to reset it a few times using menu+select but it doesn't make a difference (at least I know the buttons are physically fine).
I charged it overnight on a Logitech ipod speaker system which I don't use very often. When I discovered the problem I docked it back into the speakers and it responded fine to the speakers' remote control, but still refused to respond to its own controls.
I have tried plugging it into my work computer (no itunes) and properly disconnecting it, but that made no difference as well.
caveat: because I own an ancient ibook G4, I have only managed to update my ipod once through an old windows PC at home which I haven't convinced to boot up for a while. It was an epic effort since all my music is on a mac formatted external HD. As a result, I usually charge my Ipod by plugging it into my work computer (windows) which does not have itunes (and I cannot install itunes on it). I bought the speakers mostly so I could charge it during the christmas holidays. Accordingly, the remaining steps in the "5 rs" are not open to me.
    Any suggestions?

hi! i have mostly the same problem. I use my ipod quite a bit but one day i turned it on and started listening to music and the wheel froze so then the battery went dead. but the next morning i charged it and it worked fine. i listened to 3 songs and the wheel froze again. i tried wipeing it off but it still didnt work i wish there would be some solution. my warrenty expieres on december 17,09 but i dont know if i should send it in or if there is just away to get it to work fine. i really need help.
    thanks, katelynn

  • Click Wheel Broken

Hello to anyone who can help...
I've recently had a ton of problems with a 20gb photo iPod. It was not appearing on my MacBook at all & and would only charge periodically. I was able to get it in disk mode, but it still wouldn't recognize it. Now, after some playing around, it turned on slightly - just enough for it to pop up as a storage device. I used disk utility to erase etc. - and it was then visible in iTunes where I restored it & renamed etc. Now a new problem: after charging it for some time, the click wheel will not respond at all. This was not an issue prior to the first problem, as I could get it into disk mode via the click wheel. Now I am completely stumped. I've tried toggling the HOLD switch many times, but nothing.
Any information/fixes would be extremely helpful and appreciated!!!!

I had this exact same problem - the click wheel was acting like it didn't recognize my finger was touching it. The only solution I found was taking it to the Apple Store, and having a Genius replace mine under warranty. Other than that I don't know what to tell you. Cleaning the click wheel, maybe? I'm sure there is some other (cheaper) solution out there...

  • I fixed my unresponsive click wheel

This morning I found my iPod nano (first generation) to have a problem which a number of users have reported in the discussion board. I've since gotten mine working again, and since I didn't find anybody on the discussion board who had resolved the problem, I thought I'd post what I did.
    The symptoms:
-The click wheel does not respond to touch. None of the buttons function as expected.
-Toggling the hold switch on and off causes about half the pixels on the LCD display to turn off. Pressing and holding the Menu and Select buttons causes the device to reset, but the problem persists. This is the only way in which the buttons behave as expected (in fact, the only way in which they can be made to respond at all).
    -The iPod syncs normally.
-Restoring the iPod does not fix the issue.
    The fix:
Unfortunately, I never really figured out what the problem was, so I can't guarantee that the solution will work for anybody else. What I did was open the case and remove all of the components (in one piece). I roughly used this guide: http://www.ehow.com/how2025578repair-ipod-nano-gen.html. However, I removed the back using only my fingernails and a credit card since I don't have the "soft tools." Once I had everything out of the case, I tried using the click wheel and found it to be working normally. I'm guessing that the something was dirty or two conducting surfaces were touching when they shouldn't have been, but I don't really know. At this point, I just put everything back where it started and now my nano is working again.
Sorry I haven't been able to offer a diagnosis of the problem, but I hope that this will help people fix the problem. If your nano is under warranty, opening the case will probably void the warranty (so get warranty service instead of opening it yourself). Even if it isn't under warranty, you run the risk of rendering your iPod unusable (although this was of little concern to me as my nano already seemed to have reached that state).
The one additional piece of advice I have at this time is that when putting the metal backing back on the plastic front piece, pay attention to the little tabs that are on the inside of the sides of the metal piece. They should point in toward the back part. This will ensure that the back fits on snugly again.
Finally, I'm subscribing to this thread, so if people have further questions about how I did it, I will try to answer them. Good luck to everyone.

My iMac internet connection is not faster but as fast as it used to be.  I was using WPA2 and it was really good for a year and then I got disconnected or very slow.  So I created the new network bearing the same old name but use WPA and did not delete the old one, some how everything is back to normal.

  • Click wheel doesnt work and ipod not recognized by itunes

    hi everyone
i have a 1st generation ipod and recently it has not been working. the click wheel does not respond to anyhthing at all...and the ipod is not recognized by my itunes, although it is recognized by the computer. ive tried formatting the ipod through the usb drive and i have tried resetting the ipod...i am unable to restore it as itunes does not recognize it. someone please help me fix this!
    thanks

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem or a botched repair job. Take it back to where you got it fixed.

  • Un-Responcive Click Wheel

This is my First Hard Drive Based iPod, i have owned a 1st gen nano. the problem with my classic is that the click wheel randomly stops responding when scrolling. so when scrolling the albums list the click wheel will stop after every 20 albums. i have seen videos on youtube showing people scroll with no problems.
i have 1196 songs on it.
    the firmware, 1.1.2
i want to know should i go to the apple store to see if i can get a replacement?
or is it just me, since i am used to the nano's speed.
    Thanks
    jakthebomb

Well i took it to the apple store, and it was defective. the replacement has no issues. so now the click wheel is as responsive as the ipod nano 3rd gen.

  • My click wheel and select button are unresponsive

    hi
I've had my iPod mini for just over a year now and I've had one or two problems in the past. However, I've been able to reset it by holding the select button and menu button. However, today my iPod's click wheel will not respond (and doesn't make it's usual noise) and my select button is unresponsive so I can't reset. Plus my almost full battery has just drained in less than 20 minutes. Are there any tips for restoring my iPod?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Try connecting it to the AC adapter after the battery is drained and resetting it. Also, is it turning on?
Finally, does it connect to your computer? Try resetting it while it is connected to the computer.
