My client asks ... can we generate a PDF not via Word...?

Hi all,
A client has invested time into developing a good CSS style sheet and RoboHelp template for creating a nice looking CHM HTML Help. My client wants to find a way of creating a nice looking PDF document without investing more time in developing a good Word template for export to PDF.
The client asked me what seems to me to be a dumb question about PDF generation. Is there such a thing as generating a PDF not via Word? - (Whatever that means.) My client seems to think there is a way. But since my client asked, I have to ask you all...
I tried out the quick way of simply clicking on the PDF icon, and seeing what happens. So RH generated for me a PDF, without asking me for any more info. The Output logger showed clearly that RH was first creating a *Word file*. And sure enough when I looked in its target folder I saw there was also a *Word doc* there, completed a minute earlier. A definite sign, I think, that RH first created the Word doc and then from it created the PDF. (Btw, I don't know where RH got the TOC from for this PDF generation - it seems like a ghost of the TOC I used months ago.)
Then I tried using the Generate wizard from the Single Source Layouts pod. One of the stages of this wizard prompts you to select a template, including any *Word templates* you have fed RH in the past. Again a good sign, IMO, that the initial process for making a PDF is the same as for making a Word doc.

RH has to create a Word document but if you deselect the Word check box, it is not saved. What you saw was probably an old document. Delete it and publish just a PDF and you should not be able to see the temporary Word document that is created.
In the wizard you don't have to select a Word template, that is just one of the options.
The content of the print layout is not related to your TOC. It takes the content of a TOC when you first create the print layout but then the two are standalone. You might not want the print layout to be the same as the TOC. If you do, use the arrows to clear the content and then replace it with the current TOC.

Now, all the forms call the reports like this:

I can't generate a PDF, but if the form call the report in "BITMAP" mode and non character without archive.prt, i'ts generates a PostScript in UNIX.
Later, I transform the Ps to PDF, with ghostscript PS2PDF.

Can't create a pdf from a Word docx

I downloaded the trial version of acrobat pro dc but it will not allow me to create a pdf. it says to use the print to pdf option but that is not available. i reinstalled it but that did not fix it.

Are you using 64bit version of office 2010? - 32bit version
Are you able to convert any other file type into pdf format? - jpgs convert to pdf but no other Office file type will
Also, Do you see any 'convert to Adobe pdf' option when you right click a .docx file? - yes the options are there when I right-click but I get a message saying: "Unable to find "Adobe PDF" Printer or "Acrobat Distiller" printer.

It is not clear why you are facing this issue now.
You can try it with another pdf file,It might be possible that there is some issue with your pdf file.

After latest update (11.0.10.32), can't generate color PDFs using Word PDFMaker toolbar. Solution?

After applying the latest update to Adobe XI Pro, I can no longer generate color PDFs using the Adobe ribbon in Microsoft Word 2010 (Windows 7 operating system). Other PDF generation methods (for example, Save As Adobe PDF) produce color PDFs just fine, but I need bookmarks as well as color. Can anyone explain or offer a solution besides uninstalling the current Adobe XI Pro and re-installing the original version?

I’ve found the answer.
I'm guessing that an Office 2010 update was the problem, or maybe a change in printer drivers? In Word 2010, I went to Options, Advanced, expanded the Layouts options, and cleared the "Print colors as black on noncolor printers" option. Now I get color PDFs again. By the way, this must be done for each .docx file.

I've developped a small application wich allows user to fill in a form to submit a specific request.
This is done by using simple elements ( text view, text edit,...)
I'd like to know if it's possible to generate a pdf that contains exacly this view (like printing a web page in a pdf...) ?

Technically it is possible as long as the Web Dynpro View doesn't contain any UI elements that don't have corresponding objects in Adobe Forms. If you stick to a simple view you can replicate it. However there are no tools to build the adobe form for you off of the WD view definition. You would manually have to design the form to match.

sincere thanks for your answer. And, to answer your last question, I'm using client-server model.
Since I couldn't create this .RTF file by using built-ins like TEXT_IO, I tried to generate an .RTF file using Reports, passing the parameters DESTYPE, DESNAME and DESFORMAT, as shown below.
add_parameter (pl_id, 'DESTYPE', text_parameter, 'FILE');
add_parameter (pl_id, 'DESNAME', text_parameter, 'c:\franklin.rtf');
add_parameter (pl_id, 'DESFORMAT', text_parameter, 'RTF');
However, the just generated .RTF file is uncomprehensible. After opening the file at Microsoft Word, I can see the following message at the top of file:
This file was created by Oracle Reports. Please view this document in Page Layout mode.
... and informations doesn't appear as desired.
If I can't generate such text format by using TEXT_IO, and if generating an .RTF file through Reports shows me an incomprehensible result, how can I export the selected result to an .RTF file?
When Reports is opened, choosing Generate to file -> RTF doesn't export anything.
