My college will not support CS5.5, yet I can no longer buy CS5... I am FURIOUS!

Adobe, you've screwed me Big Time, you greedy bastards!
I bought the Master Collection CS4 (windows) last summer, in preparation for a two-year college course. My school had versions 4 AND 5 (Mac), so other than the InDesign backward-incompatability bug, this worked reasonably well for the first year. Then, without warning (to students), the school was suddenly unable to purchase any more copies of CS5. During this past summer, the school had wiped all CS4 off of every last computer in its three labs. Now that the new school year has started, I have to buy CS5 so that my home studio is at least compatible with the school, but NO, I'm forced to buy CS5.5. The school recommends against it, and my department head warns me that I'll have problems that he won't be able to help me with, if I do buy it.
So what the hell am I supposed to do?! A year of doing all of my homework AT SCHOOL - while my perfectly decent CS4 Master Collection sits unused at home - simply isn't acceptable. Buying a copy of CS5 off of Amazon - at a minimum of 50% more $ than I'd pay at school - isn't acceptable, either. Adobe, you've lost a customer, and gained a verrrry vocal adversary. Hello, open source alternatives! Long may they flourish!!!

(1)     This is a User to User forum. It does not provide feedback to Adobe management but rather serves as a means for users of Adobe products to assist each other. You are not directly communicating with Adobe decision makers, but rather, yelling at other end users of Adobe products.
(2)     From what you describe, it would appear your real beef should be with your school in terms of what versions of software it has installed on its systems and what software it “wiped” from its systems, neither of which are controlled or influenced at all by Adobe but rather, by whoever manages your school's labs. Your school was not “suddenly” unable to purchase more copies of CS5. Assuming that your school is purchasing software as part of a volume license agreement, they still can get licenses for CS5 (although they cannot buy “shrinkwrap” retail copies of CS5.
(3)     You don't indicate which CS programs your department head thinks you would have problems with if you obtain and use CS5.5. Even for InDesign, you can save back to CS5 by exporting IDML without any real problems unless you use features in CS5.5 that aren't in CS5. For that matter, even if you use CS4 at home, CS5 at school certainly can open CS4 files without any problem and you can export IDML (from InDesign) for compatibility back home.
Bottom line is that you are not as “screwed” as you make yourself out to be. And in terms of any blame (if that's what turns you on), I suggest that you have a good heart-to-heart discussion with your school's lab manager, department head, etc. about what appears to be poor planning on their part. I honestly don't understand why you are so mad at Adobe.

I have an Apple Air Book and I am very satisfied with it except there are video that I cannot see.  The reason is that Quick Time will not support the video.  What can I do to be able to get these videos?  I have all ready download Adobe Flash Player and installed it but it has not effect.

Get Flip4Mac (for Windows Media videos):
    http://dynamic.telestream.net/downloads/download-flip4macwmv.asp?prodid=flip4mac wmv
    And Perian for everything else:
    http://perian.org/
You should be able to play most videos with QuickTime player once both are installed.

If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop ("CS5" won't do for instance; we would need CS5 vers 12.0.2 or whatever) and of Bridge, machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, video card specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.
A screen shot could be very helpful too.

I am in the same boat. I tried repeatedly to contact iTunes support, but was told each time that I had contacted the wrong deaprtment and they could not help me. There must be a way to still be able to use the iTunes store without paying for a system update. If not, I hope they will reimburse me the money I have in my acount.

  • I just upgraded to Lion 10.7.2 and it says that it will not support Power PC programs so my 2008 version of Mac Office and Intuit Quickbooks are blanked out.  I need these programs.  How do I proceed?

I just upgraded to Lion 10.7.2 and it says that it will not support Power PC programs and has blanked out my 2008 version of MS Office for Mac and Intuit's Quickbooks.  How do I proceed to get these programs back?

Upgrade to newer versions compatible with Lion or downgrade to Snow Leopard:
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • Had to buy NEW HP due to Lexmark will not support Leopard

I purchased a new HP PSC7280 due to the fact that LEXMARK tech support sent me an email stating that they will not support LEOPARD on my printer and X9350 (top of the line consumer product for lexmark) even though they state on their website they should have a supported driver out in March of 2008. First, I can't wait six months to be able to print. Second, they did this with the printer I had before and when the printer driver was released it was just the printer driver no scanning or faxing support. Had to buy a new printer then. Third I think I remember something that the new OSX Leopard was announced and developers had free copies made available back at WWDC so Lexmark evidentially does not want to support Macintosh... By the way the Hewlett Packard PSC 7280 works seamlessly with no problems for printing, scanning, or faxing and it does it wirelessly... (Better than Lexmark ever did for me)

I have had the same problem...can't even print on my x9350 using bonjour. How hard is it to keep up to date with a driver? I am not impressed with Lexmark - when I first bought the printer, I couldn't even order supplies for it. I think they are a bit disorganized. Next time, I am buying HP - the last HP I had lasted 8 years. And for the cost of the consumables, its not that big a deal to switch. Too bad - nice printer.

  • Since Flash CS6 Is not supported for OSX 10.8, can cloud members have Flash CS5?

Since Flash CS6 Is not supported for OSX 10.8, can cloud members have Flash CS5?
I see that Flash CS6 is not supported (http://helpx.adobe.com/flash/kb/mountain-lion-support-flash-professional.html ) . My coworkers and I are not able to see some fonts and the colorpickers are not working properly as mentioned at the URL.
Can you make the previous version of Flash available for download and use with cloud membership just for this OS X 10.8 issue.
It'd be more of a hassle for us to revert back to an older OS then to just get an extra older version of Flash on our system.
    Thanks ahead,

  • I read that Lion will not support my Quicken and/or Appleworks.  How am I going to use my financial data and my documents?

I have read that Lion will not support Quick and/or Appleworks.  How am I to continue to use my financial data and documents?

I posted this answer to the same question about AppleWorks in the AppleWorks community two days ago.
I use iWork. The iWork applications - Keynote, Pages & Numbers - can only open AppleWorks 6 presentation, word processing & spreadsheet documents, respectively. They will not open any other type of AppleWorks 6 files or any AppleWorks 5 or any version of ClarisWorks files.
The third-party application, EazyDraw, can open AppleWorks draw documents. If you still have access to AppleWorks you can copy the contents of draw documents, paste them into an AppleWorks word processing document in object mode (click the arrow in the tool panel), save the WP document & then open it in Pages. You can copy & paste from AppleWorks to Pages but you would have to do it object by object or it will be one big uneditable object. Check Yvan Koenig's iDisk for many AppleScripts he has written to make conversion easier. Most are made to do batch conversions.
There is nothing other than AppleWorks that can open paint or database documents. Database data can be copied & pasted into an AppleWorks spreadsheet, saved & opened in Numbers or saved as ASCII/plain text & opened in most any spreadsheet, database or word processing program. Paint documents can be saved as one of many different formats to be opened in most image editing programs. I recommend using PICT or PNG for best results.
For a replacement for Quicken, I've narrowed my choices down to SEE Finance, Moneydance or Jumsoft's Money. I need to work with them more before I make my final decision. Mac | Life suggests SEE Finance as the best option.

  • If win 7 64 bit will not support Firefox 10 why offer it

I have just read that you will not support 64 bit win 7 O/s so why am I being offered it twice now to be honest.
you are correct this M/C is 32 bit but not my other one which is 64 bit

Firefox Nightly it is not in the Release channel (Release channel: This is the standard version where the majority of users, including you are. It's fully tested and stable).
Nightly channel: is the most unstable and buggy one. It's where all the tests are performed.
so you can not see it in your update options.
    thanks again

How can I re-install Adobe Flash Player 10.1?  Don't know how I lost it but my system will not support 11.  Thanks!!

Installing an older version exposes your system to attack as described in this Adobe security advisory: http://blogs.adobe.com/psirt/2011/09/security-update-available-for-adobe-flash-player-apsb 11-26.html
If all you want to do is watch videos on Youtube, you don't need Flash and can watch them in HTML5 instead. All you need to do is to install Firefox which supports WebM. Firefox will run on most systems without a problem: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/8.0/system-requirements/ (download link on the same page).
After you install it, go to this site and click the link at the bottom called "Join the HTML5 Trial": http://www.youtube.com/html5

I appreciate your repsonse, but the irony is that Apple is still scheduling "One-to-One" & Joint Venture training on iWeb knowing that it all will end next June. ..
Just to add this : iWeb -- the app itself -- is still supported, updated only months ago and as part of the ilife '11 DVDs still widely spread even though it is not sold on the AppStore it is official part of iLife. It runs in Lion and there is zero issues with the app. So a training makes sense, doesn't it ?.
They would only to exclude the "publish to me.com" part to be up to date for courses and trainings :-≠

  • Just down loaded firefox4. My imac system, OS X, will not support it. Now what?

I downloaded firefox4 on my imac. I have OS X operating system and when I try to open firefox I get a message that tis system will not support firefox. I had firefox before and it crashed. I trashed ii and downloaded version 4.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com
