My comp won't recognize my

I have my Zen docked and my computer won't recognize it. I have been under every system check on my hard dri've and it keeps looking for the device, but no matter how many times I unplug and re-plug it in, it is never recognized. Please help me before I throw it through a wall.

Megan, I may have a solution to your problem (and a lot of other people around here). I just found a post (not on this site) that informed me of a conflict between Creative's Software and Windows Media Player . I am a victim of this conflict as well.
I simply removed the Creative software. It detects fine in WMP. If you prefer to use CL's software, you can downgrade to WMP0 and take your chances trying to upgrade it again.
Here is a link to the original article I found so they may receive their just reward for figuring it out. http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25477
I don't recall any warnings from Creative on WMP conflicts during the install process. Perhaps a re-release of the drivers with appropriate warnings are in order?

  • Comp won't recognize Mini DVD-RW

My computer won't recognize mini DVD-RWs using my external DVD drive (Plextor PX-716UF). It will recognize mini DVD+RWs. Plextor's support told me that the device is picking up the disc, it is the mac that is the problem. Anyone know of a fix?
Please help, my newborn baby's videos are on these discs.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The first question is, how was the DVD-RW formatted? Was it formatted on a Mac? If on a PC, was it formatted ISO-9660, or UDF?
If the latter, you may need to get http://www.softarch.com/us/products/rdvd.html
    to read the disk.
Based on this website, it looks like they are 5 years behind the time and haven't heard of Mac OS X yet:
    http://www.plextor.com/english/products/716uf.htm
Verify with them it usable by 10.3. A firmware update may be needed.

  • 20GB iPod/comp won't recognize/folder with exp point

Hey, hope someone here can help me out. I have a 20GB white iPod with the wheel and I am having some problems. First off, when the iPod tries to boot up, it shows the Apple logo, and then goes straight to a folder with an exclamation point. While it is doing this i hear it making a clicking sound. I have reset the thing 1000 times and it doesn't help. Also, my computer will not recognize it. iTunes won't see it, and when i go to My Computer, it is not shown there either. I've tried restoring it using the iPod updater, but that doesn't work because it cannot detect it. I have tried disk mode as well, but it doesn't detect it either. Any ideas of what I can do??

Ryan, in case you would like to save this cost, I suggest that you should be fixed it with a Mac computer.
Put your iPod in Disk Mode, connect it with a Mac computer (please find a friend who is using Mac),very likely it will able to be mounted and shows up on the Desktop. Open the Disk Utility and do a ERASE (format in MS DOS=FAT32). Once completed, re-plug it back with your PC, and a window pop-up mentions that your iPod can't be read and need to be formatted. Click "OK", then open the iPod updater and click RESTORE.
I have managed to fix couple of iPod with the same problem

  • Comp won't recognize iPod?

Ok, so I went out and got an iPod nano. I had it for about 5 months, and now all of a sudden it just doesn't connect to my computer anymore. The computer does not recognize the device, thus making it impossible to put new songs
onto my iPod. I go onto google, and look up some iPod forums ( and try the downloads on the apple site, but the oly driver I saw was for a mac, the irony ) and from what I understand I am missing my USB mass storage driver(the drive used for iPods,is what I'm guessing). I have no idea where to find this or how to find it. I tried google, but who knows what is safe anymore on free downloads from google. Is there any downloads on the apple site for this driver or any other known site, or am I going to have to wait like a month till my moms friend can fix the computer?
I also have read the guides on the problems, but when you don't even have the drive on your list for the USB stuff, the guides don't really help much.
I have also re-installed iTunes AND Quicktime...I don't know what else to do.. =( this ***** so badly, cuz i just bought new songs off the iTunes store
P.S - here are my comps specs incase you need the info
Processor: 2.53 GHz Intel Pentium 4
    Number of Processors: 1
    RAM: 512 MB

    CD-RW: 40x (read), 10x (write), 40x (rewrite)
    DVD-ROM: 16x
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition

yah this problem is just killing me, bcuz i know what the problem is..but i dunno where to download the USB mass storage driver so i can't fix it...

  • Comp. won't recognize ipod touch 4g after ios4.3 update

So i updated my ipod 4g to ios4.3 and it downloaded and installed fine but then my computer didn't recognize my ipod. A window came up saying that "itunes has detected an ipod in recovery. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes." I then restored it but it didn't finish and the same window appeared. I tried restoring a second time but then an error appeared "Error (-1)"
I tried looking up what that error was but it is not in the support/help portion in the apple website. So now my ipod is just sitting here, fully plugged in with the connect to itunes screen.
I also updated to the latest version of itunes BEFORE I tried to update to ios4.3. I rechecked to make sure itunes updated but it stated that it did. Please help anyone!
Oh, I have a PC with Windows 7.

Have a similar problem. My computer is PC with 64 bit windows 7. Itunes is version 10.2.1.1. I use Microsoft Security Essentials for virus/firewall.
Anyways, I did the update this morning. When download finally finished, ITunes began updating my IPod touch & I got a single error (I didn't catch it, but may have been something like 1620 or 1602). I restarted my computer to try everything over again. I booted up and loaded Itunes, but it wasn't saying anything, and I also noticed my IPod wasn't showing up either. I checked, and it was still plugged in, but I did notice that it had a screen with a usb plug pointing to Itunes like I should plug in my Ipod, but it was plugged in.
I checked on internet a bit & didn't find much that was very helpful. I did find one thing on Apple support that sometimes driver gets messed up on update (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538), so I tried that. This entailed deleting the usb driver for apple mobile devices, and then scanningn for new devices, and restoring the apple mobile device driver from a directory under the C drive (c:/program files/common files/apple/mobile device support/drivers). Updating to this file gives a driver that calls itself "Apple Recover (iBoot) USB Driver" with a driver date of 2/11/2011. This has no effect, and I still have the same screen on my IPod and it doesn't show up in Itunes.
On internet I found that my IPod seems to be in a recovery mode, and I tried a couple of the listed methods to get out of the recover mode (these all failed for me, but maybe they'll help someone else). I held down both home & power buttons for 10 sec and then letting go of just the power button. Then you wait until after apple logo dissapears (about another 10 sec) and then you let go of the home button. This is supposed to start the recovery mode for your IPod, but for me I just get a blank screen. There is also a reverse method that does either a DFU or Recovery mode. For that method you just reverse the releasing of the Home and Power buttons, but that just got me back to the usb+itunes screen instead of to a blank screen.
While doing both of these things, I did notice that it would sometimes replace the Recovery Driver with a DFU driver, or sometimes you'd get 2 non-working Recovery drivers. None of these drivers had any effect on Itunes being able to see my IPod. The Apple Recovery (iBoot) USB Driver only comes up when you do the apple support option.
Hopefully this error is widespread enough that it will get apple's attention and a fix will come forth shortly. I'm at my wit's end trying to fix it.

  • My comp won't recognize my new ipod.

I just got a new ipod. I had an old one but it broke, now I'm trying to put all the music that was on the old one on the new one but I plug the ipod in and nothing happens. How can I make it recognize the new ipod?

Did you install the iPod software so you could use it on a Windows computer?
Download and install the iPod updater to your computer. Restart your computer. Connect the iPod when told, and follow the set up procedure.
After that, you should see the iPod recognized in iTunes and you can then start transferring songs.

  • Mini won't go to disk setting, comp won't recognize.

I've worked through all the suggestions on the Apple site, and waded through some here, but can't find anything...
I do the "hold on/off, then press down Menu and Select", get the Apple sign, then "hold Select and Play" to supposedly get it into disk mode so I can restore it with software, but it just displays the unhappy iPod icon, then goes back to a half-display battery charging symbol.
It also isn't being recognized when plugged into my computer, so I can't update the software via iTunes updater.
    Any suggestions? Thanks, folks.
    X.

    Hi Christa!
Do you use a Mac or are you on Windows? I figured we'll tackle the "iPod is not recognized in Windows" problem first before we even attempt to place it in disk mode.
This is the link for Windows: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
This is the link for Mac: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60950
There's another way to set your iPod in disk mode, other than pressing buttons. Pressing buttons on my iPod never worked for me, I just couldn't get past the "Select and Play"..it'd go right back to the menu. Plug your iPod to your computer and then open iTunes. On the bottom right of iTunes there's an icon that looks like an iPod, click on it. Click on the "iPod" tab on top, and then click on the "Music" tab a bit below. Somewhere on the bottom of that window, there should be something that says "Enable disk use". Check that box, and then click "Ok".

  • Comp won't recognize Java to open Finale 2011

I recently tried to install Finale 2011 on my Macbook Pro. It told me that I needed to install a Java runtime before the application could work. However, it said that I was not connected to the internet at the time, which was not true. After I went to the Java website and downloaded it, Finale still would not open, and the same window popped up saying that I have not downloaded Java and that I am not connected to the internet. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

  • HT2452 just got a replacement wireless keyboard for imac but comp doesn't recognize it and won't connect. can't type or use it. any suggestions?

Just got a relpacement wireless keyboard for my imac but the computer won't recognize it and b/c i can't use the keyboard (type) there's little troubleshooting i can do. how do i reconnect this? thanks!

You may need a wired keyboard to carry out some of these steps. It's a good idea to keep a cheap wired keyboard and mouse or trackball as backups for a desktop Mac anyway, because Bluetooth isn't completely reliable.
    Step 1
Follow the instructions in these support articles:
How to set up your Apple Wireless Keyboard
Apple Wireless Keyboard: Difficulty during pairing process
    Step 2
The keyboard should pair automatically when you reboot. You may have to press and hold the power button on the right side of an Apple keyboard until the LED starts flashing.
    Step 3
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 4
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Reboot.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    See these support articles:
Bluetooth keyboard may not pair during Setup Assistant
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: Potential sources of wireless interference
Bluetooth: Unreliable wireless performance may occur when USB 3.0 external devices are close
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • Bridge 'get photos from camera' stopped working and Bridge won't recognize my DNG files anymore

So, I've got Bridge set up to get pictures from mem.card whenever I insert one in my laptop (win. 8.1). A week ago I installed Sony's PlayMemories. Without asking me it hijacked Bridge's task of getting pictures from my cards. What's worse, I tried to fire the 'get photos from camera' function manually from Bridge. Bridge starts working, but nothing happens. I uninstalled PlayMemories and reset Bridge, also told my laptop to run Bridge whenever I insert a card. Still nothing happens and I still can't get the 'get photos' function to run manually from Bridge. Anyway, I can still rund the DNG converter to get my pictures, but today Bridge won't recognize my DNG files - worked fine yesterday. I downloaded CS6 from this link https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-product-downloads.html  and tried to run the installer, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Maybe I need to do a full uninstall off CS6 for it to do anything..?  Anyway, if any of you guys could help me with my Bridge/CS6 issues I'd be grateful.  I've got 3 sets of concert photos and a snowboard comp. shoot I need to finish this week

  • G5 won't recognize install disc after formatting

    Hi all,
I recently found a G5 tower at my work that wasn't being used. It had a Debian on it so I formatted it with my OS 10.4 disc in order to install tiger but now it won't recognize any kind of startup disc.
When I turn on the comp and hold option it gives me the window where I can choose my startup disc, but no disc is ever found. When I start the computer up with out hitting any keys or holding C it just gives me a globe icon and never finishes booting.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Mike

Hi BDAqua and thanks for the suggestions,
the CMD-OPT -SHIFT-DEL key combo didn't seem to have any affect on the computer, and I'm not sure what a firmware password is.
I actually have a couple of install discs, one for 10.3.5 that has the 2Z691 numbering on it, and another for 10.3.7 that has a 691.... numbering on it. I'm not sure which of these came with the computer but they both say power mac g5 on them and neither of them has worked so far. I've also tried using a debian for ppc install disc with no luck on that either.
When I start the computer up it'll either show me a folder with a question mark or square with a globe in it, and when I hold option it'll look for a drive to start from but will never find one.

  • IDVD selectively won't recognize .mp4 format - how to burn for dvd player?

    Hi -
I'm trying to burn a .mp4 movie for my gf's family so they can watch it on their TV instead of my tiny comp. After trying DiskUtility and iTunes (both to no avail, DU wouldn't even allow me to select a .mp4 format to burn on the DVD; iTunes burnt the movie, but it doesn't play on the DVD player ...). I thought I'd try iDVD, but it won't recognize the movie I'd like to burn - says the format is unrecognized. Tried with another movie, same format (.mp4) and it worked just fine.
I'm really at a loss - I didn't expect it would be so difficult to burn a DVD! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Rax

Alright, my results correspond with Russ' hypothesis: both videos I tried are in the same format & at the same FPS, the only difference b/w them is the audio. The one that worked is Stereo (L R), the one that does not is the 5.1.
Unfortunately, I do not have Quick Time Pro, I just have QTP 10.1 that came w/ Lion (& an older version that I added b/c it allows playback speed control). Here, the export options are:
    480p
    720p
    iPod touch & iPhone 3GS
iPad, iPhone 4 & Apple TV
    Audio only
None of these were an obvious choice to me, any suggestions? I've heard something about "Toast", would this be an easier / better option?
Thank you for on-going help. Very much appreicated.
    Kind regards,
    Rax

  • Won't recognize card.... please read and he

I bought my Mom a Sound Blaster li've! 5. PCI card. She's running a 500 MHz comp w/ 444 MB Ram with Windows 98... very old machine. I did not get an installation CD with the card, so I downloaded the Standalone file from this site. When I try to run the file, it reads 'Sound Blaster Li've! 5. not detected'? and says something about the file being used for Li've! 5. only. I have tried downloading the driver files;? they install, but I get no sound... and in the device manager it says I have a PCI sound card but won't recognize it. Should I clean boot, send the card back, or are there other things I can try?
