My computer cannot access the Internet, but my iPad can...

My computer cannot access the Internet; it keeps saying "a connection timeout occurred," but my iPad is connecting fine.  I'm running OSX 10.8.2

Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.

I cannot retrieve the password for the wifi connection on my imac and so cannot access the internet with my ipad at home.  I have a cable modem. Help please!

If you mean that you cannot remember the password for your WiFi network this will work for you - or it should work if you are the administrator on the Mac.
You will need to be logged in as the administrator on your Mac and you must know the password - Open Keychain Access on your Mac in the utilities folder, click on Passwords. Find the Airport Network Password listed on the right. Double click on it. Click on show password in the the window that pops up. Enter your administrator password when prompted and click allow.
If Keychain is locked - you must enter the administrator password there as well to unlock it and access the password.
If you have set the Mac up for Internet Sharing for the iPad to share the Mac's connection, just create a new network On the Mac with Internet sharing and a new password.

I did PRAM and MC reset, modem reset, etc., all the usual ju-ju. I also cannot connect on my local network to any other computer. Yet Network control panel says I am connect to the modem, and Network Diagnosis says I am connected to the Internet. It's like the blind man who has eyes that cannot see. BTW, I am not some newbee. I have been a Machead since the early nineties and set up a half dozen networks, including the one I am using at home to which the iMac mysteriously is there but not. This has me stumped! I am considering going back to 10.7!

  • I cannot access the internet, I tried to answer that said to go to settings, safari, tap clear history, cookies and cache, cut off, then on, but it did not work.  When I go to internet the screen is grey??? please help I am a new user!!

I cannot access the internet the screen is grey, I have tried by using the answer from someone but it does not work...I went to settings, tap safari, then clear the history, cookies, and cache, then turn off ipad.  When I did that twice, it did not work.  How long does it take for the clear history to work?  I am a brand new
user of the ipad2 and I am disappointed that this is happening already.

Have you been able to access the internet previously and now it's suddenly not working, or are you still trying to access the internet for the first time on your iPad?  Are you at home trying to connect through your home router?  If you are at home, did you put your home routers encryption code as your password?  The encryption code is what your iPad is looking for and it is usually found on the router and is typically a 13 digit combination of letters and numbers.  Let us know......

  • Equium P200-1IR - Wireless is connected but cannot access the internet

    Hi ya,
    Need a little help!!
I have just bought an Equium P200-1IR.
I have turned the wi fi on.
I can see my router which is Talk Talk.
I can get the laptop to connect to the router and it says that I am connected,
however I cannot access the internet.
I tried the same process by inserting a wi fi dongle into the USB port
on the laptop and exactly the same happens.
We have other computers in the house that connect to the router and internet
    ok using the wireless dongle.
I have plugged a hard wire connection from the laptop to the router and I can
access the internet immediately with no problems, however would love
    to use the wireless feature.
    Any help really appreciated....Thanks
    Waynec

Do you use the right channel and right encryption settings?
    This should be checked!
It should be able to change the WLan channels in device manager -> WLan card -> Properties -> Advanced tab
But I would also recommend disabling the encryption and password in router settings and to connect to Open Wlan of course this should be done only for testing purposes if the notebook would be able to connect to the open router, then this would mean that you used a wrong password.
How about WLan driver update? Did you update the WLan driver? If not do that!

  • I am connected to my wireless network but cannot access the internet. Any ideas?

I am connected to my wireless network but cannot access the internet. Any ideas?

Your router may not have given your iPad a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

  • HT1766 For some unknown reason, I cannot access the internet through my Wi-Fi connection, even in my own house with the computer on.  What shall I do?

I cannot access the internet with my Wi-Fi connection on my IPad2.  It began with my trying to reply to a message.  I then got a msg that I had the wrong password or user name.  Now I have no access and cannot get or send mail, or access the internet.  What shall I do?

If you have access to wifi router you may check its log and see what does it say...
Try set the router for no hidden and no password wifi and try to connect. If you iPad can connect then add password to wifi settings on the router and try to connect again... etc...

  • WRT54G router cannot access the Internet

My wireless PC can access the router but cannot access the Internet.
When I ping linksys.com - the ping times out; however, when I ping my ISP I get 4 pings back. When I ping the router the ping is successful as I get 4 pings back.
I am sure there is a fix for this problem. Can anyone help me get connected to the internet?
    Thanks
I just got DSL in my area and installed it. I have a Linksys WRT54G router and a zyxek 660R DSL modem. I have a PC #2 in the room down the hall and a PC #1 in another room. I have a Wireless-G USB adapter in PC #2 (this is the antenna for the wireless connection). Everything is installed and PC #1 can connect to the internet through the modem and router. However PC #2 can only reach the access point (router) and will not access the internet. I can connect to the internet for PC #2 when an ethernet wire is used directly but it is not great to have a wire running down the hall. I pinged the router from PC #2 and the echos look fine. So it can certainly reach the router. When I use the Local Network tab and click on DHCP Clients table both PCs are displayed. So how can a PC use a wireless connection to reach the internet? I have spent 4 days already trying to get this to work. My ISP can't seem to help.
    Thanks for your help.

hi... logon to router's setup page and try changing channel to 1 or 11, click on the advanced wireless settings and try reducing beacon interval to 50, fragmentation and RTS threshold to 2304, also try upgrading latest firmware on the router...also
if you are using Win XP system try uninstalling the adapter from the computer...click on start >> programs >> wireless G USB adapter >> uninstall, put the CD in for the adapter and restart the computer, one window pops up "found new hardware" try installing the drivers, no need to install WLAN software or utility and use windows WZC (wireless zero configuration) to manage wireless connection...check whether it works for you or not and let me know the results.

  • My mac pro laptop cannot access the internet which is cable thru airport extreme any suggestions

My Mac pro cannot access the internet cable but is connected to wi fi thru airport extreme. my apple desktop works fine on the system and sits next to my laptop. any suggestions

"I have an ethernet cable in port 1 on my computer. That is configured manually to access ther office network."
Do you have a "real" IP address or a private (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 172.x.x.x) IP address?
"The wireless router was connected to the company server only for the purpose of getting me online through Airport because I couldn't access it using an ethernet connection"
Could not access it because their network security blocked you by intent, or had some unknown technical difficulty?
Unless you are blocked by intent or ommission (if they have to explicitly allow your machine) I can think of no technical reason why your wired connection should not both get you on their network and on the internet in general. You should not need to be dual homed (though dual homing should work as well).
Please answer the questions above when you can - I think solving the wired LAN issue will be easier if you are not being intentionally blocked.

  • I did a software update on my ipad and now cannot access the internet. how can i fix this?

I did a software update on my ipad to 8.1 and now cannot access the internet.  How do I fix this?  My mail updates, but to get internet access I had to move from wifi to cellular data, and now even cellular data does not allow me access.

Hi Go to settings Reset Network Settings After Reset you need to enter your Router wireless key Before you do this turn off your Router for 30 seconds Also an option is to go on Websites for your make of Router look for any Firmware updates but you can do this later. Cheers Brian

  • When I open a second Profile while another is running the second cannot access the Internet until I close the first. Why?

I often have occasions to run more than one Profile simultaneously (usually because of different add-ons I've installed on different Profiles). In the past this worked fine. Now, all of a sudden, if I open a second Profile while the first is running the second cannot access the Internet until I close the first. It keeps looking for a website, and failing, until the system "times out". If I close the first Profile, the second is then able to access the Internet.
Note: this is not a problem with opening a second Window in Firefox. As long as they are from the same Profile they will both work fine. Nor does this stop me from using a second Profile to look at website files I have saved to my computer. The only problem is that the second Profile cannot get on the Internet.

I just checked, the setting was for "Automatic proxy configuration URL", in the past it was set on "No Proxy". So I'll try changing that (and/or try other proxy options), and see if that solves the problem.
If it does, then just one (academic) question remains: why did that happen in the first place? I don't care what the answer is, so long as your suggestion solves the problem.
    Thanks.

I CANNOT ACCESS THE INTERNET VIA MOZILLA FIREFOX
A BOX COMES UP WITH THE FOLLOWING:-
firefox-exe - Entry Point Not Found The procedure Entry Point
could not be located in the dynamic link library mozsqlite-3-all.
    PLUS
When I access the internet via my server (Tiscali now Talk-Talk)
I have to enlarge each page. this is not now automatic.
    What on earth has happened?
    Please Help.
    Thank you.

You need to do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • BIZZARE PROBLEM ! N200 cannot browse the Internet but email is working HELP

Bizzare problem I have a Lenovo N200 running Vista Home Premium. The machine was running perfectly until Monday. At the moment I cannot access the Internet. The bizzare thing is that my email works fine and I can send and receive email. But I cannot surf the web on IE. I even installed Firefox and still cannot access the Internet. I have checked the network settings. I am using a LAN cable. The settings are fine. I reset the adapter. I have taken off the anti virus and reinstalled. The weird thing is if I go into the Lenovo recovery while booting up I can access the web on that browser. In Vista in Command Prompt I am able to ping www.google.com and I get a responce. I simply cannot access the Internet from any browser in Vista. Can anyone help? Any ideas? Thanks Mike

    Bizzare...
Have you checked your firewall settings? I know that non-Windows firewalls, if not loaded properly, can block all incoming data. I remember when I uninstalled ZoneAlarm on my main PC once, all data was blocked. And on my Sygate Personal Firewall, if it isn't loaded when Windows boots, any new problems won't be able to use the net until its loaded and exempted from blocking. (This could happen to Windows Firewall too, but I'm not sure).
If that doesn't fix it, not sure what then.

  • Is there a way to access the web-based setup for my router if I cannot access the internet?

Okay, I need to change the ip address settings on my router. I have a WRT54G Wireless router. I cannot access the internet on my computer connected to the router, and do not know how to change the router settings without accessing the web-based setup page. So, back to my question. Is there a way to access this page if I cannot connect to the internet?

On the back of the router is a small reset switch. Using a paper clip or other small item, press the switch in and hold it for a few seconds. This will reset the router to the default IP address of 192.168.1.1. Enter that address in your web browser, and be sure your computer is attached to the router by an Ethernet cable. Don't attempt to do this using the wireless connection.
Once you have reached the web configuration utility you can change the DHCP settings.
To give your PC a static IP address you will need to open your network connections panel and, assuming your using Windows XP, make the changes from dynamic IP to static there.
