My computer crashed and all of my songs on itunes are gone !!!

ok.... my computer crashed the other day ... and all of my songs on itunes are gone along with all the things that i saved on my computer... and i never saved the songs on a disc so i dont have them anymore.. so i was wondering how i could get them back without paying for them again.
also i was wondering if there is any way that when i plug in my ipod that it wont automatically update because i am afraid that when i plug it in that all of my songs will be erased..
if there is anyway that you can possibly help me PLEASE DO IT !! because i am in desperate kneed for some help and i want my somgs back soo baddly!!

go don't connect your ipod until you go into itunes
and make sure to set it up to where it won't
automatically sync up the ipod with your itunes
library, as it WILL delete your music
if you want to transfer that music back onto your
system, go to google, do a search for "need to
transfer music from my ipod to my computer"

I would suggest the manual method over using 3rd party software, but the choice is entirely yours.

ITunes crashed and all my links to the items are gone

During a regular automatic update with my iPOD iTunes crashed. One video clip obviously caused the problem. Its impossible to delete the item. Each time I click on it, iTunes crashes. To make it worse - when I click on each other item, music or video or podcast - the item cannot be found - although, the original is still in the library. What can I do ?

I have a similar problem: being the idiot that I am, I tried changing the name of a video file while it was updating my iPod. Now I can't delete the corrupted file and I can't update videos because iTunes crashes when it tries to copy the corrupt file over. When I try to delete the file, iTunes crashes. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of the file? Thanks!

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use this to put everything back.
The music sync is one way -computer to ipod. The exception is itunes music.

For music that you've purchased from Apple that are on your iPhone you should be able to copy to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. Also if you are in the US then you should be able to re-download past music purchases for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
For your own music that you've copied, then if you haven't got a backup on, for example, external drives or CDs/DVDs then you could see if any of the utilities mentioned in this old post still exist and work

Yes you can. There are few ways to do this, assuming that itunes with your library doesn't work anymore.
You can try with a freeware software for Windows named
iPhone PC Suite
Another way is to install on your iPhone an app that shares your music. I have one, it's called SongExporter.

You can transfer itunes purchases: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
The iphone is not a storage/backup device. The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The exception is itunes purchases.

did you back up your music to another hard drive? if not, the only music you can get back is purchased music from i tunes.

Is it a song you have purchased? Maybe your song is protected by digital right management? Then it will not show up in GarageBand. Have a look in the Information panel if the kind of the song is "Protected".
