My computer crashed and I lost my entire itunes library. If I replace the computer and re-load itunes how can I keep all of the music that currently on my ipod?
Ipod syncing is not one way. You just have to know what to do...
I can see you use windows. Connect ipod to pc, but don't install or dont open itunes - dont alow itunes to sync automaticly). Then open explorer, enable hidden files, open your ipod (as you would any disc) open hidden file with strange names and copy all of them on your new hard drive. Then drag all this strange-named files in your itunes...woooo...now those strange names become your songs...it is magick

While the Version Sets in my current catalog are collapsed, the version sets in the Catalog on the new computer have all become 'expanded'; this is unacceptable to me, as many of the pairs that are stacked as Version Sets have become separated. While all of the Version Sets are "tagged", it looks as though many of the photos in the expanded sets are without tags. Problem #2 is that the hierarchy of Keyword Tags that I currently use is lost when the Catalog is restored in the new computer's Organizer. I followed the instructions previously published in "Photoshop Elements Help" regarding backup to an external hard drive and restoring the files in an empty Organizer on the new computer. I also used the "Save Keyword Tags To File" command before the backup. Any suggestions to remedy my two major problems would be appreciated. I do have the intact "current" Catalog on my old computer, complete with tags and captions, collapsed version sets, and a list of Keyword Tags organized in the Hierarchy that has worked best for me.

The version set information and the tag hierarchy are stored within the catalog. It sounds as though you haven't brought over the catalog from your old computer.
The recommended way to transfer elements from one computer to a new one is to use the Backup catalog to CD, DVD or Hard Drive on your old system and then use Restore catalog from CD, DVD or Hard Drive on your new system. Is this how you did it?
That should have preserved your version sets.

hello my name is Brandon, my hard drive on my laptop fried out and i am currently stting up my itunes on a different laptop. I want to be able to keep all of my music but everytime i connect my iphone to my laptop it says that all music will be lost and only the music that is on the laptop now will be imported to my phone. my music is my life and i love the playlist i have now but there are songs that i have on this laptop that i really want on my phone for when i workout. Can someone please tell me how i can save my music.
It depends on eaxactly what is wrong with the old laptop. If you're lucky the drive can be extracted and connected to a new computer to extract the data. Otherwise see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

I understand the feature that re-opens documents when you restart. But now, whenever I open something I had been using earlier, the docs I had been working on -- but finished with -- also re-open.
Especially noticeable is Photoshop Elements. This is my default photo manipulation software, and when I click on a new image, it opens . . . over the previous two or three I had worked on earlier. But I closed the durned thing. That had always dropped all active images off.
Is there a system-wide NOW STOP THAT! that I can use?"Auto Save" is Apple's term, I guess. Its controls are so well-hidden I'm flying blind here.
But as I put it in a note to a magazine dedicated to Apple:
I think Auto Save is one of the dumbest things Apple has ever come up with -- oh so typical of what Bill Gates used to give people: lots of extra stuff no one ever asked for, and no one at his company ever thought through.
Say there's a conflict with a program or two I'm trying to use. Machine locks up. I force quit and shut down -- probably without ever seeing the option of stopping Auto Save.
When I open up again, what am I faced with? Yup, exactly the same mess I just tried to get away from.

I purchased an iPhone 3 and had taken some photos on it. I started having issues within 30 days and could replace it. So I created an iCloud account and saved those photos as a back up on iCloud. I did not restore my new phone from back up because I did not realize I needed to restore and not just activitate it. How can I save the new photos, apps, and other stuff but retrieve the old photos?
If all you want is your old photos, you could backup your new phone using iTunes, then restore it from your iCloud backup, import the old photos to your computer, then restore it from the backup your made in iTunes returning your newer data to your phone. If you want your old photos on your phone, sync them there from your computer using iTunes. The process would look like this:
Connect your phone to your computer, when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar right-click on it and select Transfer Purchases; right-click again and select Backup.
Disconnect from your computer and go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings to return it to new
Go through the activation setup, choosing to Restore from iCloud backup. Make sure your phone is plugged into a charger and has access to wi-fi as this can take hours to complete.
When complete, without connecting your phone to your computer, open iTunes and go to Preferences. On the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically"
Now import the old photos to your computer (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083)
When done, open iTunes, right-click on the name of your phone on the left sidebar and select Restore from Backup, choose the backup you made in step 1.
Go to the Photos tab and select the photos you want to sync to your phone and sync. -
I lost my iTunes library on my pc when the hard drive crashed. None of the data on the drive was recoverable and I did not have a backup either locally or on the cloud. Much of the music is from old vinyl and podcasts which are no longer available.

The iphone is not a storage/backup device. The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer. Use your backup copy to put everything back. -

You should be able to copy iTunes purchases over to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. From your backups. By doing a clean install you erased your startup volume. You may have installed OS X, but your personal software was erased. You can restore from backups if your have them. If not, then you've lost it all, permanently.

As long as the apps are still available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to buy them, then you should be able to re-download them for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 . If you download them to your computer's iTunes you could then try restoring to your backup and see if that restores them and their settings/content back to your iPhone - a backup doesn't contain the actual apps, just their content/settings, so for the restore to work fully iTunes needs access to the apps so that it can restore them.
