My computer crashed and I saved my files onto my flashdrive. I can't open SWM files.

So my computer crashed and I saved my files onto my flashdrive. The back up files are compressed into SWM files and I can't open them. I tried dowloading p7zip and extracting the files and the files remained the same. Maybe I didn't do it correctly. I'm running out of ideas. I'm trying to recover a few DOC and RTF files that was saved in the hard drive before the crash.

Inside the folder of files you should see a file with .exe extension, either Recovery.exe or Backup.exe.Double click it to extract the files to a folder on your laptop.
You will have to enable the option to see file extensions for known file types.Do that in Control Panel,Folder Options.

Depending upon what country that you are in then you might be able to re-download some/all of your past purchases (if they aren't still in the store then you won't be able to re-download it) : re-downloading. If you aren't in a country where you can re-download them then have you not got a backup of your content ? When attempting to open .XLS files in Numbers, the format is not recognized. When the format is .XLSX, the format is recognized. Why is it this way? It's still much more common for folks to have the .XLS file format on their excel files. Why would Numbers not be backwards-compatible?
Additionally, to state in the benefits of this program that one can save to 'Excel' is a little misleading. You can't save to anything except .numbers. Sure, you can export to Excel (with file extension .XLS, I might add), but you can't save or save-as.
Does anyone else see the irony in being able to export to .XLS but not be able to open an .XLS?
There is something to be said for clarity.
You can't expect folks to have Numbers and Excel on their systems, so how else are they supposed to open .XLS files in Numbers?
And I don't need to see another advertisement for NeoOffice or OpenOffice here, thanks. I'd actually like Numbers to be a little more sensible.
That is all.When the advertisements were written, there was no Lion so we were able to Save As Excel.
At thiqs time there is no longer Save As command under Lion but the feature is always available.
When your editing task is ended, you are free to use this scheme:
File > Duplicate
File > Save and in the dialog you will have the option save as Excel.
Numbers isn't and I hope that it will not become an Excel editor.
Its resources contain a flag defining it this way.
I posted several times a script editing this resource.

It is probably not wise to leave your e-mail and phone number on a public forum.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
You purchase one download only.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases -

I've checked Reader, and there are no updates. I've run a Windows version compatibility test - although it only goes up to Vista, and not Windows 7.
Anyway, it appears I can now open Adobe files - but I've found another issue: when I right-click on a file and scroll down to the 'send to email recipient', it doesn't automatically open an Outlook email with the file as an attachment - in fact it doesn't open Outlook at all, let alone automatically?

I just upgraded to Yosemite and the latest version of Pages. Now I can't open my files on iCloud. I get a message that says: File type can't be opened. Thoughts?
Same for me. I can open them on the iCloud beta web app, but not on regular pages. Everything is updated to the latest OS X and Pages version.

What exactly means "can't"? Can you open Reader by itself?
Try the following: using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader), then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement. -

Unfortunately, in your case, there isn't really a way to separate them as far as I can think.
You could try restoring from a backup, and choosing an older backup perhaps

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 for Windows 7. I need to re-install it because my computer crashed. I saved the outer box, but I do not see a serial number and it is asking for it when I am trying to install the CD software. I went online, but the only serial number I see is when I registered the Photoshop Elements 2.0.
The serial number will be on the disc case, not the outer box. Find your serial number quickly
